I've never thought about that we cannot "bargain" with the Lord or change His mind. (And WHY would we want to, with all the limitations of man???) I think he watches us have the experiences that we choose. All while attempting to persuade us with good counsel. Thank you for expanding my thoughts ❤
I love your podcast, but I am truly curious about something that you said. You said the Lord works in straight paths. So what about when the Lord told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? and then changed his mind. Or thou shalt not Kill and then commands Nephi to kill Laban. How about not committing adultery and thou shalt not lie and then had Abraham lie so Sarah could be with the Egyptian? I believe that our God is sometimes a God of exceptions- in the Book of Mormon He explains that it is better that one man dies than a nation perishes in unbelief. Imagine if Abraham were killed because the Egyptian wanted Sarah and thought she was married to Abraham? The scriptures are full of exceptions to His commandments. Can you shed some light on this? To be clear I believe in keeping the commandments and following the Spirit, the Prophet, etc. I just always thought that sometimes God makes exceptions and doesn't always take the straight forward undeviating path like you said here. Do we know for sure that the Lord did not, on Joseph's third request, say, "Okay Joseph, my first two answers were no and because you wouldn't listen I'm giving you a different answer with a caveat- ...". The Lord knowing full well that the pages would be lost ( as he had Nephi re-write many things 600 years beforehand because the Lord knew that the book of Lehi would be lost). Can you site this reference to me that for sure the Lord did not say this? Also, perhaps the Lord allowed Joseph to take this course (he could have easily prevented it by sending Moroni) so that Joseph could feel deep grief and regret and repent ultimately to solidify in Joseph a faith and obedience to future commands that would not have existed without this experience.
Anita, I just recorded and will post, very soon, a Q&A for VIP Patreon subscribers that is a direct response to this very thoughtful and important question. I'm sorry I'm not able to write out an answer--it took almost 40 minutes for me to share my response!-- but, if you are interested, you can check the description for this video and there will be a link to Patreon. Even if you just subscribe for one month, you'll be able to listen to my answer. So, thank you for your question and I hope you'll join me on Patreon for my response. Blessings--
