I was just there last month. Going back for New Year’s next week. Fireworks at the bay it’s a whole different vibe. My family is from Guerrero & yea Acapulco is old & outdated. Literally needs miracle to bounce back but I don’t see it happening. We try to make the best of it but you do need to know where to go & have a plan set up before going there. Great vid guys
that seafood tower we tried looked much better than it tasted unfortunately! Not sure why, maybe the low traffic means food isn't selling as much and so it's being kept longer? It didn't make us sick or anything, just didn't taste fresh. The pescado a la talla was the best and the octopus and coconut shrimp were good, too. We also had a really bad "ceviche" and I put it in quotations because it came in a bowl of ketchup. When it has ketchup, I call that a coctel. And the fish was precooked (not cooked by lime juice), so the whole dish was not what we were expecting. Local cultural difference maybe? Anywho, we didn't wanna say all this in the video but our food experiences were mixed! We couldn't help but think to ourselves how much more we enjoyed the food in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, twin-beach towns also on the coast of Guerrero.
@EatBailaTravel saludos! Maybe after the hurricane chefs moved on to other cities to make a living and don't want to return? That might mean recruiting new chefs to fill in the gaps, hopefully with time they will build back up!
I remember visiting Acapulco in the 80s, I have pictures as well and it was awesome. I stayed at some amazing hotels that had lazy rivers and waterfalls that had bars under them. I also remember the cliff divers and the Cici water park. Cruise ships would visit and there were so many foreigners the traffic signs were first in English and then in Spanish. The funny thing about Elvis is he never actually went to Acapulco, the story I was told was that Elvis made some disparaging remarks about Mexico and thus was denied entry. I hope Acapulco restores itself, but I doubt it. Corruption is high in Guerrero.
I love Acapulco but have not been there since late 90’s. Mostly because of crime number. Thanks for your information. I love your shows keep up the good work 👍
I was chatting with a vendor in Cancun who is from Acapulco and got his start selling there as a young boy. When Cancun became popular he moved there to follow the tourists and work. I wonder what will be the next hot place to visit? Tourists are fickle.
Yes I wonder the same! Tulum has been the latest craze. Puerto Escondido’s recent surge in popularity is notable as well. Bacalar… people are looking for more options

My parents are from Acapulco and I still have family there. I visited a lot throughout my childhood but have only been there once as an adult in 2019. The city is still a very beautiful and charming beach town but did feel unsafe. My partner and I prefer other beach destinations but hope to one day return to Acapulco.
so glad you went out to Acapulco, especially showing the Traditional Zone. Jenny, did the fresh ocean air and warmth help your condition? I was going to offer you guys a few days free stay at my condo hotel (in Zona Dorado, near Playa Condesa) Came back in August, this area pretty much recovered from Otis. they said John mainly impacted Zona Diamante, the low lying areas around the airport flooded.
@@maryjohnson753 felt fine to me, or maybe I'm used to it. we usually go June-July because only time kids out of school. Right, Dec-Apr is peak season but free owner stays are during off peak only. (I would have paid for EBT's stay as a way to contribute to the channel)
Saludos EBT! Thanks for the update on Acapulco. when I was there in there about 20 years ago had a really good time. I do Remember I asked a couple of older gentleman about Elvis and they mentioned that Elvis never was there personally, his movie Fun in Acapulco was all shot at a Hollywood studio lot.
I've always wanted to go because of its golden era past (and I love the show too) but its unfortunate it's in this kind of shape. I hope it recovers soon and I will make that trip one day.
We haven't been to Acapulco but we hope its future is bright. It's in a tough spot since it needs to be able to attract tourism but in order to do that they need funding to rebuild. The trash is disheartening and I wonder if some have given up on the possibility that it can return to it's former glory. -Marc
I haven’t been in ten years. I was pleasantly surprised at time, but I know things have been tough since. I wish Acapulco the best, it is a beautiful beautiful place
We wish we could see what it looked like in the golden age. But the Acapulco show on Apple did a really good job helping us make our decision to want to go.
the 100% Natural Restaurant we went to on Playa Hamacas is definitely wheelchair friendly. I believe Doña Toña's and El Tiburon Costeño are as well. The only one I think is not would be El Caldero Wizard Coffee place.
It is nice to see a NOT all positive review. I am tired of videos where the food is always amazing and the cities are always amazing. Because that is not always the case. There are so many videos on Guadalajara being an amazing city and every time i go i find it to be the dirtiest most graffiti covered city in all of Mexico.
We had this place on our radar as we thought most Gringos would be afraid to go here to live. lol Prying for the people of Acapulco. 💖🙏🏽 I think it is by far cheaper than say Cancun or PV. What's your thoughts? Great vid guys Cheers from 2 Canadians living in Mexico. 💖🙏🏽 PS: loving the new format also guys keep up the great work.
Lol yea that might be for good reason though. Even we felt a bit uneasy there. We didn't include footage of this our of respect but we did also see lots of (maybe homeless) men passed out on the streets at all hours of the day, lots of military presence that just made the vibe feel kind of heavy.
Definitely cheaper than PV or Cancun, but not too far behind PV. The prices were still higher than we anticipated. We east spent $30-$40 USD on our main meals.

Yea the early 2000’s may have been the tail end of its golden era. We didn’t feel UNsafe. But the amount of police/security/military presence made us feel a bit uneasy. They’re there to keep things under control, which it all seemed to be. We walked around safely at night. I think just practicing your streets smarts and remaining aware of your surroundings is enough precaution just like when traveling anywhere.
Jenny, regarding pain, especially joints, have you considered: DMSO (70/30 gel stick) or Willow White Forte? (both are on Amazon and try it next time back in Chicago, or I bring it to you in CDMX next month. Also rule out Lyme disease?

great restaurants review, will have taxi friend take me over to Traditional area. aparthotel has many restaurants in lobby and street level so we order there most of the time, or cook. BUZOS (many locations) is excellent seafood. Also good eats at Galerias (this is bigger than Diana) food court.
It's a shame that Acapulco has fallen from it's heydays and that mother nature is beating it up. I think that if the people who live there can get motivated to begin making some changes in themselves and the city, it may become a vibrant place once again.
Yea definitely though they need supper from the government to make it happen. President Sheinbaum has mentioned plans to help them, I hope she follows through
It looks like you stayed in the older part of Acapulco that most USA tourists don't go to nor stay in. The beach that you went to is the Caleta Beach. It would not be busy in October. That beach is mostly used by Mexican families during or near a holiday. That area of Acapulco is not usually kept very clean. Nor is it safe at night. Sorry that you did not make it to the cleaner part (Condesa Beach area).
I been to Acapulco many times with my father being from Guerrero. I been thinking about going back to help the economy. Where you get the Sox hat with the mexican flag?
I can remember when it was great. Many friends visited. Then crime, cartels, and drugs..Then recently hurricanes... Would never visit that area...Just spent 9 weeks in S MX. Been visiting MX for 40 yrs...Would never go to Acapulco.
