Thanks so much for these videos! I work at the hospital here in Newfoundland, Canada . I sent my husband and 5 year old daughter to their grandmother’s house when this bloody covid happened ,and they’ve been there since mar.13 so I’ve had a lot of time on my hands , so I’ve decided to learn the tin whistle! My great grandmother was from Ireland ( County Wexford) , and traditional Irish music is what I grew up on , and I’ve already done Irish dancing so I knew this would be a great fit , I hope anyway. It’s in my blood . Your videos are lovely and so helpful ! Thanks so much! 💚

Ahh I'm so sorry to hear about being separated from your family, I can't imagine! Hopefully we'll all be through this soon, but good luck with the whistle in the meantime. And if you have any questions that I might be able to answer, please feel free to reach out. All the best!

Sadly, no teachers easily findable in Japan it seems, very limited options so having to self teach a lot. And TH-cam. Thanks for your videos, they have been helpful for starting

I'm surprised, there seems to be a real explosion of Irish trad in Japan, particularly among flute players - though I'm a long way away so I'm only working off 2nd/3rd hand info I suppose

I want to purchase one so bad. I'm wondering which one I should buy first. I am on the search. 1. I want to learn the whistle because I've always felt drawn to the sounds they make. I feel a sense of connection to what I hear played through them. 2. I'm alone a lot and have time to learn on my own. I feel like I can give myself ample time to feel the whistle out and allow it to be apart of me. At some point, yeah I would like to take it to my church and play along with one of our bands there. 3. I'm in love with Irish style so I'm hoping I can catch on quick.

I have always dreamed of playing in a session, and if I would be learning, I wanted to be taught good technique; also, putting in the ornamentations has always been a wonder for me. I've been contantly trying for many years but then when I play it, it doesnt seem so right. Lol but anyway, im hoping to find a teacher soon!

I've several Irish pubs around my environs - not one of them has a band with a whistler. How sad.

when you have a phrase that starts off with the number 3, what does that mean? for example: 3Bcd B AFA | 1 DFE D2e: | 2 DED DFE

In case you circle back, I have a thought but not sure if it’s accurate. I’m guessing the # in front indicates the number times that phrase is repeated???

Alright, admit it. Who else wound up learning tin whistle thanks to Captain Picard in "The Inner Light"?

@@whistletutor that'd be excellent! Saw that episode when it first broadcast when I was nine (1992) and it's stayed with me since, finally started studying tin whistle as of a month ago. Haven't committed it to memory yet while mastering the fundamentals and the history, but it's a lovely tune imo.

I learned about the whistle from listening to Peter Purvis in Gaelic Storm. However, I confess that the day I got my first whistle in the mail in March, I went on a Google spree and found the sheet music for “The Inner Light.” It was way too hard at first, but now after practicing almost daily for a few months, I can play it pretty well. I just need to figure out how to ornament it properly, as I haven’t gotten into all that stuff yet. My big goal is to be able to play like these guys I saw playing in an ad hoc session in The Oban Inn in Scotland back in September. They were just a bunch of folks getting together on a Sunday to play whatever, but dang if the two guys on tin whistle weren’t freaking amazing. I have the video on my phone to keep me motivated.

Hiya, I've recently subscribed to your channel, and think you are doing a fantastic job which I really appreciate as you tube as you know sometimes can get overwhelming ,in answer to your video questions, I've always wanted to play the tin whistle growing up in Wales I heard it all the time,I'm not sure of the procedure here but if you are available to teach over the internet I would be massively interested I'm in London so if it's possible could you please email me your criteria for students,I'm not sure how the payment side of things would work but we can discuss that if you are taking on students, you would be doing me a massive favour if you could,I remember when I was a child about ten years old,we lived by a mountain range one evening the family were walking the dogs when 8 saw a man camping in was twilight not light but not yet dark he was sitting outside his tent a campfire roaring and he started to play the whistle to me it was magical I was taken aback by the beauty of the music that was forty years ago now and I still remember it so I would love to emulate that , please let me know thanks
