Thank you so much for showing me a different way of using charcoal. I have enjoyed watching how you do it so I tried it and after weeks of not drawing I have just got a new lease of live and I have sketched my best effort yet.
Always great stuff!!! Question, you you ever paint on top of your charcoal drawings? And if so, what medium do you use on the charcoal before you start to paint?
Hi Tony - I think these new videos are really hitting the mark (at least, they are for me!) Your mix of rambling (don't change this!) and gentle instruction and advice should help everyone. I find I'm not trying too hard now, just 'letting things happen' as they say. Problem is, I think I still overthink certain things and am a little too quick to correct with the eraser instead of using it as a creative tool, so I've got to get out of that habit. Your advice on how to sit and position the paper really helps. I'm still working with graphite but hope to invest in some charcoal soon, so we'll see how that goes. Anyway, excellent stuff and keep up the good work. Best regards.
Thanks Tim. I'm seeing a drop in numbers of views, but I feel as though I'm a little more focused. Yeah you have to let the thing evolve, fixing things as you go can be a sign of having the wrong mindset, specifically "expectation". Shifting from graphite to charcoal can be quite difficult, you have to let go of the control you get with graphite and let the charcoal do its thing. So being present to the way the drawing develops is critical :)
@@TonySwaby Thanks for your sound advice, Tony. Yes, I agree with you on my expectations of the results of my efforts - I always have tried to aim for perfection which I realise now in my old age can be more of a hindrance than a help and is a throwback from my years in the precision engineering industry. Yes, time to change my mindset and allow things to evolve naturally and at their own pace! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Cheers for now.
Beauty! Alot of artists on the net speed up their work so its only a few minutes long and comes out as a short video. I always thought your style would look neat sped up fast. hehe! I wanted to just mention that as a thought for a different look, style of video? Im happy with whatever you post but just an idea? Cheers!
I drew along with you. Mine looks like a different person but at least he looks human. Just trying charcoal, messy
Cool!! Great fun to watch and learn and absorb…the method.
Thank you. Very helpful.
My pleasure :)
Thanks for what you are doing. Much appreciated.
Good work….How you protect your Charcoal drawings.?
I spray them with hairspray :)
yo. Once again wondering how you'd approach creating a face instead of capturing the likeness of one. thanks for the good video
Been watching your videos and I think you're amazing
