May I play devils advocate and compare the fan base of the beatles back in the early 60s to the fan base of Taylor swift right now? They seem super similar to me

@rosecohen6597 Record store day 2024 had 5 Beatles releases while madonna had 0 releases. So much for taylor swift's future.😂

I'm a music fan, pretty traditional stuff, have all the usuals, full LP catalogs of Zep, Beatles, Who, Stones, Floyd, Steely Dan, Clapton, Cream, Weezer, Purple, Bowie, Reed and on and on. Plus jazz, Sinatra etc. But to be fair Taylor is something special and connects meaningfully with millions of her generation and younger. Do I listen to her, no. Do I get annoyed by her, no. I appreciate her talent and she means a lot and is important to my daughter, a young adult and I know how she connects to her. Nice to see.

Great call on a reissue of Let It Be Naked - one of my favorite Beatles releases for sure. And on Discogs - 6,000 have it and 2,800 people want it, making it one of the most-wanted Beatles album on Discogs, even over any of the 2012 Beatles Mono pressings.

So glad you bought The Amboy Dukes "Journey To The Centre Of Your Mind" it is the quintessential psychedelic LP of the Swingin' 60's - crank it up and let's Do The Swirl...haha - My brother got me The Bowie Collection which is fantastic "Velvet Goldmine' is my new favorite Bowie song...what a music master he was - The Dark Side Of The Moon was pricey so I passed on it and having heard every other version I could live without it - I'm so glad you were able to participate in RSD at a record store I really miss it - thanks for a great video Melinda❤See you next week!

Hey Melinda, my ladyfriend and I totally scored on RSD! She was so worried about not getting the Beatles turntable set since our appt time was set at 10:40 am and the store opened at 8 am. She got it, and Elton John's Caribou, and she was thrilled! I picked up the two Cannonball Adderley's, Yusef Lateef, David Bowie, Snarky Puppy, and Jim Croce. Im going to get Chet Baker and Nancy Sinatra in thr next day or two. About the Bowie: The Bowie estate owns the albums that used to be on RCA and licenses them to Parlophone/Warners. The label design replacing the label logo "RCA" with the stylized name "Bowie" was the decision of those who put together this compilation, which is basically a version of Ziggy Stardust that didn't make the cut. The songs that were not on Ziggy have been released elsewhere, and the versions of the songs from Ziggy are the same as the original album. Hard pass for me, I prefer the original. Nice that you enjoyed it, though.

On my podcast we were discussing how many Dark Side albums does a person need. lol. Yes I bought it and now all these other classic rock group can do this same thing with their albums and charge you for two, just you wait and see. I have no understanding on the Beatles 3”, would you actually listen to that over a record? Another open door for more RSD 3” releases. I did just trade in my OG of that Amboy Dukes album. Always a pleasure to hang out with you Melinda. All the stuff should be arriving this weekend. I have never seen the Exorcist, I just can’t watch demon possession movies, nope, can’t do it

I agree that the 3 inch Beatles record was a money grab. For me, as a Beatles' fan, it is a glorified toy and it was missing THE first song the Beatles performed that night on Ed Sullivan (All My Loving) which makes no sense to me. I also felt the George Harrison picture discs were a money grab too and wanted no part of it on George's two least loved albums. Was happy to get the John Lennon EP and the Ringo EP (new material for him - which recently he has been producing some pretty sound pop songs lately). Thank you for your words on Dark Side of the Moon - I was drawn to the pretty artwork on the record but think I am wise to save my money (as I have the 30th anniversary pressing and many others).
With regards to Naked...for one who bought it when it was released, it was a disappointment for me. I think a reissue is definitely overdue, but so is the Anthology sets on record. I would bite on a second pressing of "Naked" (especially with the Let it Be movie coming to Disney + next month).
And I did snag the Bowie too - have yet to open it lol

So I bought nothing RSD, just a Smiths LP Reissue. Someone found a decent DSOTM copy at a Goodwill and I found an empty cover. Hi friend. I totally agree about Naked. Would love to see a new release of the vinyl. I have it on a CD but I want it on vinyl. Wahhhhh. I have the 30th anniversary of DSOTM, but still got the new version because I have no restraint. I did pick up on RSD: Caribou, Bowie, Foghat, Talking Heads, G Love, Television, Chris Isaac, Cranberries, and Poppin’ in Paris the next day on line from In Groove.
And yes, I settled for the Beatles box, even though I probably won’t open it. Again, no self control (like the Eddie Money song). Thanks for the video.

This RSD was a first for me, for the past ten years or so, I’ve had my go to store, as I mentioned previously my store closed after 40 years, earlier this year. Loved that store, was guaranteed to get anything I wanted for RSD. I think there were only maybe four titles that I couldn’t get since RSD started. So I had to go elsewhere. I went to another store, got up early, had to stand in line (even an hour after they opened) but they didn’t have anything I was looking for. So I was watching the Toad Hall live stream and tried my chances there. At about 3 in the afternoon I was able to get thru on the phone and got my order placed. So that was good, but I found my old record store REALLY spoiled me for other stores.
As for Tubular Bells, I have this, got it a few years ago for $3. I wasn’t impressed after the first spin, in fact it’s in my trade pile now. I think I should maybe give it another shot before I trade or sell it off!!

I was spoiled when I had a record store where I lived. It was inside a mall which meant on those cold nights, we were able to wait inside the warm mall. 🥰
Tubular Bells is a classic. That doesn't mean you have to like it. Give it another listen if you want to but if it doesn't strike you that's ok. 🤗❤️ Thank you and take care.

Hi Melinda! I agree with your "Let It Be...Naked" comment. That is the only Beatles album that I do not own on vinyl and I'm patiently waiting for a reissue. I refuse to pay $200 for a copy on eBay. Did Capitol ever release a vinyl edition in the USA? All of the ones I'm aware of are imports. On RSD, I picked up John Lennon's Mind Games EP in glow-in-the-dark vinyl, Ringo's Crooked Boy in B&W marble vinyl, George Harrison's Wonderwall and Electronic Sound picture discs; and The Doors live in Konserthuset, Stockholm on blue vinyl. Oh, and Ommadawn is another good Mike Oldfield album.

I picked up The Rolling Stones, Collective Soul, Bill Evans, Elton John, Talking Heads, Pearl Jam, The Who, Charles Mingus, UB40, & Chet Baker. The Chris Isaak was the only one I did not get I wanted. The Talking Heads and Elton John sound amazing.

Terrific video, Melinda! If I may make an unsolicited recommendation? The AP Atlantic 75 double 45 RPM of Abandoned Luncheonette by Hall and Oates sounds phenomenal. In case you are wondering, Tinted Windows, who originally released this lone album in 2009, consisted of Bun E Carlos (drums, Cheap Trick), James Iha (guitar, Smashing Pumpkins), the late Adam Schesinger (bass, Fountains of Wayne & Ivy) & Taylor Hanson (lead vocals, yes him from Hanson), superb classic, timeless, catchy as hell powerpop, still fresh as a daisy, and this red & black split coloured vinyl for RSD has 2 bonus tracks, so a must buy for me, i saw my local Newbury Comics had like 5 copies on Saturday afternoon, so I'm sure there will be some left...

Today for the most part lp`s are digitaly recorded in a DDD format. While the same album can be found in the same format for a lot less money on a CD with a better sound quality. Your choice. Stop giving your money for nothing!!!

The Beatles 3” tracks should have been the actual Ed Sullivan performances, not the studio recordings.
Universal continues to be the most expensive of the majors, offering the least value for the money. The Mind Games EP is one of tbe Get-It-Or-Regret-It titles, and flippers have getting triple the original price for the glow-in- the-dark edition.

Naked would have been a much better choice. I was poor when it came out and I happened upon a used copy on CD. I listen to it more than any other Beatles save Beatles 65 which is still my favorite.
Let It Be-Naked is a great way to see how they built on earlier takes to improve or change them to their liking. Phil Spector's stamp on it changed it from a Beatles album to a "Wall Of Sound" album and a big and not always good step away from George Martin's work with the fab 4.

I've played that DSOTM "picture disc" and it sounds very good indeed (its so quiet!), I also have the 30th version and it compares very favourably - really not that much in it played on my modest equipment. Its a beautiful record too and every PF fan should get one while they can. And as you say it a good intro for someone who doesn't own any DSOTM on vinyl. I paid about £65 and its a good investment, I predict it being in 3 figures in a couple of years - not that I buy to sell or make money.

Limited release of anything Beatles related is a bad idea because of the power of their brand. I’d rather the cock-a-mamie cheesy concepts like the 3” discs with the little player be the RSD release than something actually worth getting, like an actual LP. An LP release would be gobbled up quickly then flipped onto eBay immediately and be for hundreds of dollars.
RSD is better for less popular, more obscure albums, but are still interesting. The Howlin Wolf and various jazz albums this year were nice and I wouldn’t mind having, if I were able to buy it.

I am not a fan of "Let It Be: Naked". To me it's nothing more than McCartney's self-indulgence. To my ears Phil Spector made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. He was presented with a challenge to make something release quality out of miles of recording tape. The songs had an unfinished feel to them, most borderline rehearsal versions. Spector was able to enhance these recordings with nice orchestration and embellishments the songs so desperately needed. "Let It Be: Naked" sounds like the songs are empty and in need of sweetening. Just like they did before Spector improved them. Additionally McCartney mixed his bass parts up several notches so most of the songs are bass heavy.

Best "new" Beatles record would be a 12" collection of all the fan club singles, Happy Christmas singles, etc that the Beatles recorded in the early days for the Beatles fan club. I really don’t need the same albums over and over again, but only in colored vinyl or splatter vomitstyle vinyl. I don’t need it. I don’t want it.

Yes! Let It Be Naked would be an awesome RSD release. And now with the Get Back Doc Series from 2 years ago and the Let It Be movie coming. Maybe for RSD Black Friday... But maybe with a little twist, by including the coda to the Get Back song and expanding the miserable 20 minutes of the second disc. Great idea Melinda!

The 20 minute 2nd CD on LIBN was the equivalent of the bonus "Fly On The Wall" single /EP that came with the LP and that ran at 33. Not too dissimilar to what they did with the 12" EP equivalent on the remixed Let It Be CD box. They could have included those 4 tracks onto another disc instead. Actually the 'Fly' contents could have been put at the end of the main LIBN CD too.

I had my sights set on the Let It Be Naked vinyl, until I randomly stumbled upon a minty CD copy of it at Goodwill, at which time I decided, if only just for now, to be content with that version of it 😎

The CD is a great way to have that album. The vinyl has increased in price way too much. That's why we need a reissue. Thank you and take care. ❤️🤗

Glad you were able to get what you were looking for. I need to check out Amboy Dukes. The Records Store Day Beatles release I thought you were going to recommend was the butcher cover version of Yesterday . . . and Today. You look good in the T-shirt.

    Hi Melinda.
"Let it be... Naked" would have been a 1000 times better idea than the 3" discs, which are just gimmicks. (Have had "...Naked" for some years now).
"...Naked" is how the album should have been released in the first place - so much more in line with what The Beatles were trying to "Get Back" to at the time (not Spector's millions of violins etc....) .

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I actually like both versions of the album very much. I agree that this is more of what The Beatles would have done. It's definitely what Paul preferred. Thank you and I apologize for the delayed response. Take care. 🤗♥️

@@MelindaMurphy Thanks for your reply (yes - definitely Paul's project though George, Ringe and Yoko Ono agreed).
I fully understand that w. 30k followers and +400 comments you can't reply from day-to-day.
BUT it's such good style that you do it - other YT'ers could learn from this 😊

To a degree i agree and disagree..... i think we all would have enjoyed let it be naked but i also know that this "installment" of the 3 inch stuff is what it is, another piece in the puzzle for collectors that started buying these novelty players and singles several rsd 's ago. I think it kind of gives the new generation a view behind the curtain when 45s were the way music was released until 33 1/3 long players became the norm. Not many other artist have 45 box sets sure the stones do and very limited other artist as well but not alot for sure. Some could say with Love closing in vegas this year that it would have been a nice reissue as well. Or anthology for that matter, beatl3 fans are foaming at the mouth for rubber soul box sets and earlier stuff too. Not to mention a REAL Magical mystery tour,( that german one that is raved about would be so awesome).i guess what i am trying to imply is there are tons of beatles stuff that requires proper re releases or releases, and id rather they gave the hokey stuff to rsd just to have content there , and save let it be naked, love, anthology and all others for stand alone releases. Not to mention sony would make more not having share revenue with other releases of the day. Therefore charging more and not getting stuck with product left over in the end. Let it be box set is extremely discounted due to not enough sold. Above all this point was proven with the red and blue box set deluxe edition in colored vinyl, it had to be repressed several times and mine was a month late and i ordered it the day it was available for pre order whilst i watch others open theirs ahead of me on you tube. The good stuff will come i just hope it isnt cheapened up by releasing it on rsd dates. Let them have the 3 inch players and singles for their nostalgia, while serious collectors like ourselves wait for the good stuff.

You know Melinda, although I don't really listen to much of the same music as you do or collect the same vinyl as you do, I still love watching your videos because you have such a warm, calm and welcoming feeling to the way you talk and the stories you tell, and are clearly very passionate about this stuff.
I've been collecting records again only for a handful of months so far and the collection is growing much faster than I intended 😅 went from 1 to 31 records in a month and a half.
