    My 2nd month with XM4's and I'm loving every minute of use.
    Following application of the right size choice of bud tips, a proper set up of EQ and assigning your preferred actions to the touch controls, the XM4's are unbeatable as of 2021, especially if price is a factor, despite the Sony's not being cheap at all. The ANC performance is unreal. During my first day I kept taking one ear bud out thinking I had a stroke and couldn't hear anymore. The only caveat to get the most out of XM4's, make sure your device supports Bluetooth 5.2 for a separate, dedicated connection to each bud from the source device. Playing high quality lossless .flac files over Sony's LDAC codec on its highest 990kbps setting, I personally can't tell the difference between dedicated wired cans. Even on 660kbps setting, sound quality is better than a CD but with improved range, 20+ metres. The used music source device is a Pixel 6.

    • @PushyPawn
      @PushyPawn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @bron lebron I would take XM4's any day although they are both so good the difference is minor. While the actual active ANC performance is very similar, I'd still claim the XM4's as being superior. IMO, the memory foam tips help more with noise cancellation than the slight software/hardware improvements. However XM4's do seem to to react to touch inputs and other changes faster. My phone is Bluetooth 5.2 compatible so I can't vouch for how older 5.0 source devices will perform.

    • @rustoleom

      How are the Sony's earbuds themselves compared to the airpods pro in terms of weight. How heavy are they when in your ear and can you hear the outside world fine with the Sony's ambient mode on, or are the airpods pro's far better in that category? Lastly, do you not find them too huge? They look massive, but then when I see them in people's ears, it doesn't look that bad

    I bought the XM4s this week and I was blown away by the sound quality, ANC and Ambient sound modes especially in Ambient sound there is no or very little sound quality difference which I did not notice. I bought the Vista 2s 3 weeks ago and the ANC is just ok but I was very disappointed with their SurroundSense mode - the music sounded flat like clanging cymbals and this is coming from a Jaybird user as far back as Bluebuds X. I agree the fit is not the best for everyone but I'm fine with it, you have to compress the foam tips before wearing it. Realistically, you cannot put check marks on all the boxes on any product out there. You just have to find one that suits your preferences and needs. A perfect product doesn't exist.
    To summarize, I would use my Vista 2s for workout and the XM4s for daily use and travel. Using the riding mower to cut the grass might be a toss up lol.

      Just as a follow-up to my comlent above, I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. Given I have the S21 Ultra and the Tab S7+, the connectivity between both devices is fluid (plus they connect seamlessly to my work PC for Teams calls).
      In terms of sound/music quality, I find them very much superior to my AirPods Pro. However for noise cancelling the Galaxy Buds Pro definitely don't block as efficiently as the AirPods Pro.

    Great to have a side-by-side review..so just considering sound quality guess you rank/describe them something like this:
    1) B&W PI7 - more detailed sound
    2) Kef Mu3 - rich and cohesive sound
    3) Sennheiser TWS 2 - mature sound with less energy in upper midrange/lower treble
    4) Jaybird Vista 2 - balanced sound
    5) Bose QC - well balanced, rich and detailed
    6) M&D MW08 - warm and rich but Sony more bassy and extended treble
    7) Sony - bassy, warm and detailed

I'm trying to find an all-around pair that withstand my alien-acid sweat for indoor cycling and has a good ANC for traveling and commute, call quality for zoom meetings and not costing a liver would be a great bonus. The Jabra 75t sport and Vista 2 are the closest candidates, but the ANC on the vista seems quite useless. Would love to hear if you have any other in mind for the use case above.

      I actually returned the Xm4's as the left bud kept falling out my ear. I have the over ear Xm4"s but for earbuds I'm about to purchase pi7 as sound is real important. I'm able to get them for 300 US so taking that into consideration it's a no brainer. Call quality wasn't impressive unfortunately, but I hope an update fixes that.

    Thank you for you very comprehensive review. The XM4's are my choice mainly for their superior ANC and battery life. However, I'm finding that they have a lot of trouble with background whooshing sound in ambient or ANC mode after a few months use. I have had one pair replaced by Sony already. I purchased a second pair to have while I waited for their return and after less than 3 months use I now have the same issue. I also had these type of issues with the Jabra elite75T with one earbud failing. Is there an issue with these earbuds packing so much tech into such a small package that they just fail? Sony were very good at replacing them with no issues about it but it's very annoying to have them fail after such short use.

    I have smaller ear canals and the Sony's hurt my ears after more than 30 minutes of use. I own both the senheiser m2's and the xm4s and the audio quality between the two is nearly identical (with Sony having a little more bass and the senheisers have a slightly larger sound stage) and honestly if it wasn't for the pain I get when wearing them I would go with Sony all the way because I believe with future updates these things will eventually smoke everything else! But they gotta be comfortable. Comfort is key. If you have small ear canals go with the senheisers

    Hi Andy, thanks for the great review.
    I have one question that no review seems to answer: how are the volumes on these earbuds? I know it will depend on ear, phone, app being used etc, but since you probably tested all of them with the same exact things then please tell me, between the xm4, momentum tw2, m&d mw08 and buds pro. I own the xm4s but at max it still needs a little "bump" sometimes when I want to really jam to the music.
    You may not have used these at max volume, but if you did can you rank these in terms of volume please? And anyone else that has some of these earbuds. Thank you! I love the xm4s but depending on what is said I might have to try another one.

    I bought the WH-1000XM4 several months ago and I love them. However, due to their size and specifications there are certain places where you would prefer to use smaller ones. I am an Apple user and I also have Airpods 2, but I was interested in noise cancellation. If I already have the Sony technology in the WH. Is it better for me to mix with the WF or maybe scale from the Airpods 2 to the Airpods Pro?

    • @AndysTechTone

      The Airpods Pro have great noise cancellation so it might be worth it for you to upgrade to the Pros and use them instead of the over-ears whenever you need the smaller buds

      Go with the airpods pro. They're under 200 now a days. Which makes it worth it for me. It's just a better overall specially if you're an ios user. I'm personally getting a second pair. And i "might" get the airpods max with it.

    Love this review. I’m just so confused between plethora of amazing TWs in the market primarily Bose Quiet Comfort, Jabra Elite 85T, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2.0 and, of course, Sony XM4. But I have a huge inclination towards Sennheiser. They sound great but heard from certain sections of people that the phone call quality is mediocre. Even some reviewers on Amazon mentioned the microphone are poor. Now I’m just confused whether to get Sennheiser or not because they are now offered at a much discounted price. My other option is Jabra Elite 85T that is far cheaper than Sennheiser and performs well in all department. But it’ would be considered only in the case Sennheiser fails in the microphone test.

    • @AndysTechTone
      @AndysTechTone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the Sennheiser mics are worse than any other earbuds but there are the short soundclips in the video for you to decide

    • @LuvvSURYA
      @LuvvSURYA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndysTechTone : The soundclip in the video of the phone call quality sounds perfectly fine for me. If that is how it sounds on the other end of the call, I can absolutely go for it. Perhaps, Sennheiser fixed the microphone issue with their firmware update and the people who gave their negative feedback on microphone quality, had poor experience prior to the update.

    • @AndysTechTone
      @AndysTechTone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LuvvSURYA Phone call quality depends on many other factors not only what the mics can pick up so regardless of what the recording shows you can still have a bad experience. But that applies to all earbuds anyway. So if the only reason why you didn't want to buy the Sennheisers was the poor phone call quality then you don't need to worry about it.

    • @LuvvSURYA
      @LuvvSURYA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndysTechTone : I think that’s true as well that the phone call quality depends on other factors as well. But most users earlier gave the feedback that the phone call quality on the other end sounded muffled and not as crystal clear and transparent as AirPods (Pro) especially if you also are using an iPhone. Though, as noted earlier, many TH-camrs didn’t have any gripe recently with Sennheiser regarding its call quality as well. The only trade off with the AirPods (Pro) is it’s battery life that is not at all comparable to the competition. Also, it’s not meant for audiophiles that Sennheiser, Bose, B&O, Sony and Jabra are targeted at. AirPods, in my opinion, are great for making and taking calls and seamless pairing with iPhone. It’s average audio quality doesn’t justify its premium price tag. For a Bluetooth earphones/buds, a descent battery life should be mandatory to justify its purpose.
      Back to the Sennheiser and it’s near competition (except AirPods), I think I’ll have to trust on you and finally zero in at Sennheiser given I’m also inclined towards this brand. I have no doubt regarding its sound/Audio quality since everybody was impressed with the output. The only deciding factor was the microphone quality which had mixed opinions from users and TH-camrs.
      One last doubt : Is there any difference in call quality on these earbuds with iPhone and other Android phones? I’m using an iPhone.

    • @AndysTechTone
      @AndysTechTone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LuvvSURYA I'm an Android user so no clue about the difference but I don't think there should be any. Regarding the Airpods Pro the quality is better partly due to the fact that the mic is at the tip of the stem which brings it closer to your mouth. One of the best mic quality I've heard on earbuds was that of the 1More Comfobuds Pro and that's a stem-style design too
