I have never done a track day. I could never ride well enough and didn't want to get in people's way. Now way too old. I know the Knockhill track from BSB. Usually cold wet or both. Can't imagine what it would be like getting instruction from Neil or John. Loved watching the battles with Jamie Whitham. And always been a massive TT fan. Never seen you race. By the time you were I had moved to Australia. More familiar with the Aussie boys now. I'm getting slower and slower these days. After a lifetime on sports bikes just bought my first cruiser. It feels so slow and cumbersome but I can walk when I get off. Big bonus.
Theres no such thing as too old or too slow in novice group pace REALLY doesn't matter, aslong as you can handle a bike competently you'll be fine (novice is like a public road without cops and speedcameras) step out of that comfort zone and experience it at least once, its more fun than it looks!
This I started riding with a 64 year old who traded his xr250 for a sportsbike. Within 3 months I'd got him getting his kneedown and riding at a pretty good pace. He can't believe how far he's come. He's happy as Larry but wishes he'd got a sportsbike decades ago now instead of thinking they were too fast etc. Get to a track and get instruction, you'll end up faster than you thought you could go.
I'd say your old man is still pretty quick but who is quicker you or dad I hope you let let him think he is even if he's not 😂😂😂😂👍👍👍I met John at a book signing a few years back in cork his leg in a cage and even then he was in good form nice guy 👍👍👍👍👍 nice to see you back on a bike Ps I wish I could do that to a tyre without falling off 😂😂😂😂

I envy all of you who live in Europe since you all seem to have an easier time to get into track days and motorcycle racing. Over here were I am from, the cost of going to the race track is what is stopping me from racing. Even more so now, with cost of gas and tires. Maybe someday I will get the chance to do it more often.
Please pardon and respond!! How do you TRUST cold pavement and medium warm tires???!!! I’ve never hi-sided but MANY front tire slide/crashes from pushing or wrong line entry. Now my shoulder is year past surgery and I’m pushing/riding hard but plagued by APREHENSION ! How do you do in that COLD WINDY weather?

One question from a track day rider. Did you just concentrate on riding and getting used to the speed or did you also change the setting of the bike (suspension, map) I ask this because sometime I have the feelung that it makes more sense to concentrate on riding than start to fiddle with the suspension, when you just have 6 turns .....
I didn’t touch any settings on it other than turning the traction off at some point to have some fun 😂 in my opinion there is always far more to be gained with riders riding than there is in the set up of the bike.

It's free to spectate track days at Knockhill. Some areas can be off limits if the rally school is on though.
