First bike I ever rode… well if you don’t count my 50cc moped. My brother bought it brand new back in the day and on several occasions, when he went out to work, I shall we say ‘borrowed it’ for a spin. Back in the day of the old paper driving licence there were no photos - I just remembered his DoB and I was away. That was me forever hooked. Would love to try it out again so may well buy a ticket or two. Who knows. Brought back some very happy memories. Thank you guys.
Willenhall Bike Centre. Mid 1985. They had a second hand one in the window exactly the same as this one. I had an MZ 50 because I was 16 and I used to stand looking at that CBX Thou after closing hours. I guess kids don't do that now. Shame.
I rode a Honda CBX 750 everyday in mid 90s as commander of Traffic Enforcement with Royal Hong Kong Police. It had to lug blues and twos, radios, sirens, panniers of 1st Aid kit and loud speakers - and deal with HK Island congestion. Not quite the 6 cylinder 1000cc - but very similar in handling. At that time I rode a Yamaha 1200 VMax in private life and so pretty much spent all day - everyday on two wheels. Fond memories
This bike sounds great. I remember my friend’s Dad in the early 1980’s had a Kawasaki Z1300 6. That sounded great also, It was kitted out with Craig Vetter panniers and top box and be taken all across Europe two up.
Bought one new in 1979, silver color way. Assumed it would never be surpassed in performance, I was never accused of being a forward thinker, Suzuki introduced an 1100 four very shortly after that grabbed the performance crown. No comparison in pure visual presents and sound however. Marriage in September of ‘79 did us part in order to buy a home, still consider that bike the one that got away. Rode it enough to appreciate the goodness that beautiful 6 brought to the table, the CBX was a great mix of looks, performance, reasonable handling, breaking, suspension, and all day comfort. Weight was up there a bit. Wanted to pipe it out but never got the chance, shame that; I’ll never forget the amazing torque and silky smoothness of that superlative engine, good tranny. Thanks for sharing, a time tunnel video experience for me for sure!!!
A friend of mine bought one these back in 1980. Amazing machine. I currently ride a BMW K1600, also an in-line six mounted in just the same way. It’s a fantastic bike and sounds like a Ferrari when you wind it out!
An inspirational engine and design when launched by Honda. I remember seeing brand new machines in the showroom at DC Osborne on East Hill in Colchester in 1980. A friend at Colchester College had one and I’ve never forgotten the sight and sound as he left college and accelerated up Balkerne Hill 🤩
My dream of bike, I remember 1980 when I was 15 years old and two of these things arrived to Costa Rica's Honda dealer ship... 1050 cc, two cams and six big carburetors... nothing less than Rocket ships!
You are right to call Honda out over their current line up of uninspiring and mostly boring bikes. I started biking in the early 80's and Honda always seemed to pushing the boundaries of engineering and design back then, they need to start doing that again.
I remember when in the mid-80ies most CBXs were run-down cheap bangers. Some of my mates had them, in various states of decay. Being honest, i was quite envious, but at least got the gratification that i could keep up with them on my GS 1000, which nominally was 15 HP weaker. The sound is truly something else, and i remember that a 6-1 exhaust was quite popular back then.
Ironically, those 6 into 1 exhausts probably lost power. The sound of a standard bike was quite muted, even back then, a situation quickly remedied buy many owners!😂😂
Back in the day my good friend Paul Barkway let me have a go on his CBX and I thought it felt about the same performance as my slightly tuned Norton Commando 750, later it was confirmed at Avon Park that the bikes were about equal with 12.5 second ET's and terminal speeds of around 109 mph, I really liked the Honda though and fancied buying one but the Norton gave nearly double the fuel mileage under steady motorway cruising and general blasting around town and that settled it. Thanks for another great review lads, Roland. HT Racing Ltd
A much older biking friend of mine, sadly now passed, had a Dunstall Norton Commando, back in the '80's, which was much quicker than I thought it had any right to be!😂 Very light and nimble compared to the big Jap fours of the day.
You lucky guys, at last, a proper classic, I remember back in 1979 watching in awe one of these on a turntable at Ken Ives Honda in Leicester. By the way, it was nice to see the shot of the CB1100RS you tested a few years ago, I have the actual bike in my garage if you'd like to ride it again? Cheers, J.
I remember in the early 90s amidst the Superbike craze, these were everywhere used. Could have picked up a few and sat on them. They sure sound great. Maybe Joe could put one of these engines in Freddie Dobbs Fiat, so he feels like an F1 driver listening to the exhaust note 😂.
Hey guys this channel just gets better and better thar sound of the CBX was awesome. I remember my older brother riding out with his mate that had a CBX. My local dealership (Freedom motorcycles) has a kawasaki z1300 6 cylinder in the showroom I always drool over it 😂 Thanks for the vids love em!
You can't beat classic motorbikes, they make you feel so alive, unlike the modern motorcycles which are so sanitized and boring that when you get off you have to check you still have a pulse. There are loads of reasonably priced classics out there, ok not the cbx1000 but plenty of other 750's or the cb900 for example which can be had for anywhere between £2000 - £4000 depending on condition. I can't imagine ever wanting to buy a new motorcycle, when there are so many great old ones still out there.
I had perhaps been riding for a year when this bike came out. These days a 600-750 cc Supersport would leave it for dead but back in its day it was the fastest, quickest accelerating and most powerful stock bike you could buy - it was the first bike with an engine that produced more than 100 HP. Bikes from that era had very comfy seats.
Great review, back in the late 80s I owned a 79 model CBX 1000 Z , I loved it , the sound out of those exhausts was intoxicating and that six cylinder motor was awesome , even in 80's everywhere I went other bikers wanted to talk to you about the bike , "happy days" , it still a fantastic looking machine and I wish I still owned one.
I had one of these in 1981. Had it for about a year & did about 5k on it. Sold it on for a 1976 Bonneville. I wish I’d kept the Honda. The frame was a bit flexy, but you got used to it.
Friend of mine bought one last year, genuine 4K miles, yes it was expensive, fantastic machine, yes a modern 600 would show it a clean pair of heels but that’s not what it’s about, it’s a superb piece of engineering and a very evocative motorcycle, nice review 👍
Hi guys, great vid 👍 A few ago a few of us rode from torbay to the Bideford bike day (great day and gets bigger each year but sadly it's the last one, apparently it's become too expensive, even though it's all for charity) anyway our group consisted of a couple of Harleys, a ktm 1290 super duke GT, an R1big bang, a 92 fzr6, my marmite bike and my neighbour with his original CBX 😎 an amazing bike but he also has in his shed a completely restored RE5 and a kettle , just class. Ps we all had a amazing day 😎
I rode one on a test ride many years ago and on negotiating a slight right hand curve it went into a horrible speed wobble it nearly threw me down the road. I was asked what I thought about the test ride and I told the owner what happened and I didn’t like it. He informed me that it often did that. It wasn’t as if I was inexperienced rider, at that time I was an advanced police motorcycle rider riding bikes every day.
Brought back some great memories! Had 3 in the 80's, 2 silver and 1 red/black...that you've seen photos off lol Only 1 bike I've owned since that does the same, to my neck hairs to make them stand on end since🤔 My z900rs with the 4 into 4 delkevic copy pipes. Not the same cylinder numbers but, it does sound very similar. Great video guys....safe rides to ya both....🏍...🏍...🍻🤙
I have been riding five years when that beauty came out….. and as far as I can remember there were quite a few sold…. I was a firm British motorbike rider at the time moving onto BMWs but Honda was always such a groundbreaking manufacturer notably the CX 500 and the CBR 1000….. But also, Suzuki had the singing kettle as in the GT 750 two stroke triple Kawasaki and the Z1000 Also, the Suzuki katana"s absolutely incredible stunning machines…. so many bikers back then would meet outside the pubs in the countryside and race up and down the lanes
Does anyone else remember the poster, that adorned our teenaged bedroom wall of this bike. The silver tanked CBX, lent at an impossible angle, speeding round a curve.
Can't remember that one but I had one from, I think it was Superbike Magazine, of a CBX adorned with a very nice young lady with ample charms❤️. What more do you want in a poster!😂
Iconic, certainly but from an era when braking and handling played second fiddle to engine spec and power!😂 I test rode one of these in 1983 but ended up buying a Z1300 which, to be fair, had a slightly different focus, a lot more power and torque but quite a bit heavier. The CBX may have been top sports dog in it's day 😲(that's how far things have moved on) but 105bhp and 250+kg is pretty tame these days, they are all about the naked looks and the sound.👍 I wouldn't call modern Hondas boring. Stock Fireblades now lap the TT at 130+mph. So, would I want to own a CBX? No because I didn't own one back in the day so have no feelings of nostalgia for it. Now and again I think of picking up a Z13 as it was my first post test bike and brings back many memories but I'm under no illusions that it would be a poor ride compared to the modern bikes in the garage.
First one I saw was at the racing and sporting show at the royal horticultural halls in the late seventies I fell in love with it then and still love it now 😀 never owned one though but surprisingly there are a couple in the village where I live and can be seen occasionally.
I have to say that I really enjoy all your videos! I've visited UK, Scotland And Ireland as well but your part of the world Is just wonderfull💪 Greetings from Czech republic
Hello gents! A review on Honda’s brand new array of its classic inspired 350cc segment would be great! I’m based in Singapore and I own an Indian variant Honda H’ness CB350 otherwise known as Honda GB350 in Japan. Honda India has came up with three 350cc models; CB350, H’ness CB350 & CB350RS. Honda Japan then matched the market and started distributing the same 350cc models under a different name as in that order; GB350C, GB350 & GB350S. My H’ness CB350 produce a brilliant exhaust note as I cruise through the city of Singapore. Smooth as butter. Hopefully you lot will be able to get your hands on them in the near future for the viewers. Love watching this channel, cheers!
The local Honda dealer was opposite the Technical College where we apprentices did our day release, with a Kawasaki dealer a 100 yards down the road. So our lunch times were spent browsing showrooms, imagine our reaction as 17 year olds on L plates when a red CBX1000 appeared in pride of place in our Honda dealer. 105 hp seemed unimaginable back then, it hardly registers now, even my R nineT has 110hp (at the crank) ! Quite a few years later I remember seeing one riding away from Cadwell Park at warp speed. Possibly Scottish viewers might remember the name Roy Anderson, he had a large head-on photo in his garage of himself on a CBX pulling the mother of all wheelies. Very sadly Roy lost his life in the Formula 1 TT in 1991.
Someone has opened those pipes up somewhere along the years. Those bikes were the epitome of speak softly and carry a big stick. From the factory they did sound like a straight six car.
I see Honda always knew how to design a fuel tank, and not be shy about its capacity, i just love them for that! A shame for the Highness/GB 350S, i really love that bike's aesthetics.
I owned exactly the same bike in 1985 when i was 22! Same colour but with the flatter bar's fitted as it was a UK model. I paid £1400 done only 6000 miles! It had been covered in grease by the previous owner to preserve it. Took me a full day too get it all off,and it was absolutely mint 😊. I put a brand new 6-1 chrome laser pipe on it and it sounded brilliant 😁. At 10,000 miles a few months later it needed new chain and sprockets, two new tyres and front brake pads,so facing a largish bill i sold it for £1800 thinking I'd done well 🤔. If I'd kept it,it would probably be worth £15,000😭.
Because we're talking about it I've just remembered the reg number 😀 NRW852W , last taxed in 1987,so it either got scrapped or it's in someone's shed still being polished 🤞😁
The tiny Honda dealer near me has one... it runs but they drained it of oil and removed the battery because it was originally meant as a learner for mechanics (at least that is what they told me) and as such, was never really meant to run very much... I have also seen one being ridden up and down the strip by some middle-aged man and it sounds glorious compared to those 4 pot screamers people put slip-ons on.
Hi - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I well remember when it was released and the incredible reaction that ensued. However, I believe that the Suzuki GS1000 actually had greater performance figures, just not the same visual or audio impact.
i own the little brother of this, the cb 750 , only bike in the world i woud trade in my 750 for is this compleltley amazing cbx,,yea,i know, the turningangle and lean is off, the weightcontribution is odd , but my god! i love it!
There’s not a biker alive that wouldn’t enjoy having that CBX in the garage. Well done lads 👍👍
Brings back memories from the golden years.
Thanks for your work, lads 🙏
Our pleasure!

Back when Honda’s weren’t boring! Nice video thank you for an enjoyable trip back in time 🙂👍
The 1980s were a golden period for Japanese bikes😊

This bike is gorgeous, and people should start realising that this type of beauty is not meant for speed!
I owned one of these in the eighties and it was a lot of fun, bloody heavy though for a short guy😀
Bought one new in 1979, silver color way. Agree about the modern Honda range. Just picked up a mint CB 1100 rs with 4500 mls. What a treat! Great channel. Glad to see you two on top form!
In the 1990s, I had a CBX1000 that was exactly like that one. It had a Marshall deep tone exhaust, and I wish I still had it.
CBX1000, Rc51, Rune. The result you get when Honda Corporate takes the Handcuffs off their design team and says, "Do what you do best."
Nice to see you team up with CCC👍 look forward to seeing you review more of their bikes!
My dream of bike, I remember 1980 when I was 15 years old and two of these things arrived to Costa Rica's Honda dealer ship... 1050 cc, two cams and six big carburetors... nothing less than Rocket ships!

I’ve owned 8 of them, one with 6 into 6 pipes. Great bikes if you keep the fuel clean and run them regularly. And sound like no other!

🌟Would like to see that again 👍🏽
God Bless you for making this video and bringing the joy back into my aching heart.......My goodness does that bike look & sound amazing.
Wow what a bike and man that sound is intoxicating.
Loved the video guys 😍 what a beast of a bike...kept thinking how the 1st owner would have felt 44 years ago riding it out of the showroom !
Glad you enjoyed it, they must’ve felt on top of the world!
I remember my boss bringing his in silver home brand spanking new in 1980, omg timeless in my opinion, nice video thanks.
This bike is absolutely incredible! The sound it makes is unlike anything else on the road. It's definitely a head-turner.
I disagree. The sound of the famous slippery Sam trident, and the Norton rotary that Robert Dunlop raced on song sounded fantastic.
Japanese styling at its best And it actually looks like a motorcycle to boot.
Modes?
Your right wrists, hooray!
Always wanted a Benelli Sei (750 or 900). The CBX 1000 is a gem!!!
Hey guys this channel just gets better and better thar sound of the CBX was awesome.
I remember my older brother riding out with his mate that had a CBX.
My local dealership (Freedom motorcycles) has a kawasaki z1300 6 cylinder in the showroom I always drool over it 😂

Yes, i love the shape of those wheels!
Square ones are so ancient school

Amazing Honda, as many fellow Hondas 🏆
Proper motorbike , no gadgets just a big old lump that's fun to ride 👊
Who wouldn’t want to ride one. Truly iconic.
It never sounded like that from new. My neighbour had one of these and, with standard pipes, it was so quiet you never heard him come and go.
I had perhaps been riding for a year when this bike came out. My dream bike. Seriously. I'd trade both my Harleys for it.
I'd give up a testicle. Either one, don't care.
Hi guys, great vid 👍

Nice one. Another beauty is current CB1300 . Especially 30 year anniversary edition, paint job and finish is incredible.
Great to see this older classic on your channel👍
Awesome, very special indeed, great video really enjoyed it.
Great to hear 👍🏼
Brought back some great memories!
Had 3 in the 80's, 2 silver and 1 red/black...that you've seen photos off lol
Only 1 bike I've owned since that does the same, to my neck hairs to make them stand on end since🤔
My z900rs with the 4 into 4 delkevic copy pipes.
Not the same cylinder numbers but, it does sound very similar.
Great video guys....safe rides to ya both....🏍...🏍...🍻🤙
You should hear one with an aftermarket exhaust
The best on this bike is the ashtray in the rear end! Like it! 😂
A piece of motoring history. Glad you guys got to experience it. Jealous!
I was 18 or 19 when this came out and it was instantly a poster on my bedroom wall.
guys I don't know if you have noticed. At the end of film, when you were stopping and only engine was heard AI generated subtitles showed MUSIC!
That sound is absolute KING
Omg 😳 what a sound ❤
I was riding around on my GT380 back then and fancied one of these (or a Laverda Jota =¬) both way beyond my budget at the time however.
I have seen a six-six....and that is WONDROUS!
I have been riding five years when that beauty came out….. and as far as I can remember there were quite a few sold…. I was a firm British motorbike rider at the time moving onto BMWs but Honda was always such a groundbreaking manufacturer notably the CX 500 and the CBR 1000…..

45 years old and still better looking than a Harley any day
Superb sounding bike and very usable by the looks , thanks for the trip down memory lane
Glad you enjoyed it
I must have one. I MUST.
BMW K1600 straight 6 is still being produced
It's a 4
It's an awesome sounding 6
Does anyone else remember the poster, that adorned our teenaged bedroom wall of this bike.

Edited....I got the braking vs engine quote the wrong way round😂 Must be an age thing.
For me, this is the Holy Grail of vintage motorcycles.
Love the little 10 in the background
First one I saw was at the racing and sporting show at the royal horticultural halls in the late seventies I fell in love with it then and still love it now 😀 never owned one though but surprisingly there are a couple in the village where I live and can be seen occasionally.

As an apprentice my boss had one, had barely passed my test and I used to borrow it, he must have been crazy!! 😁

What a gorgeous symphony 👏🚀🎼
Iconic not bonkers; had the pleasure to go to the TT IoM in 1984 (ish) on one of these beauties

Beautiful and beautiful colour too!
I see Honda always knew how to design a fuel tank, and not be shy about its capacity, i just love them for that! A shame for the Highness/GB 350S, i really love that bike's aesthetics.
Great video , I remember these from the days of old fantastic bike
Looks & sounds epic.
My favourite feature is the ducktail spoiler.
I’m old enough to remember it new.
Moto Martin built a special using that engine.
Because we're talking about it I've just remembered the reg number 😀 NRW852W , last taxed in 1987,so it either got scrapped or it's in someone's shed still being polished 🤞😁
was considered a lemon in its day
Honda then brought out the CB900 which was the better bike in terms of handling being lighter with the same performance.
Need the ol man to review the Z900rs please. We’re the same height and build and it would be super entertaining aswell. Pretty please❤
Nearly bought one yrs ago for £1500 but he backed out . Had cb900 super sport . Cbx great bike . After this came the pro link

Great bikes! Freddie Frith in Grimsby also sold the Benelli 750 Sei.

Motorcycle version of a V12 exotic.
How come I've never seen one of those before?! Awesome!

What a bike! Haven't honda just launched the CB1300; that looks stunning (although only 4 cylinders 😅).
I've got a stunning 2008 cb1300s. They still sell in Japan but not here in UK.
