- Want to know what it's like to drive a C10 shortbed - the lightest truck Chevy made in the C series - with a 640WHP supercharged 502 big block in it? So did we.

Every company made a truck in the 60s, but the Chevy C10 seemed to have won the most hearts. When Chevy debuted the C10 pickup, it was a big improvement over the tractors that preceded it. It sat lower in the frame, and the IFS (on 2WD models) made it handle better, and easier to drive. Each year brought slight changes, from engines, to nicer interiors or upscale option packages. BIG thanks to @kultstatus for bringing it out.

Zack deserves a lot of credit. It's not often where you see the originator of a series step down yet the series keeps going strong and doesn't lose a beat. You've seen series go down the drain that way such as with the raywilliamjohnson =3 series. That alone is a testament to how good Zack is.
Also isnt afraid of manual brakes like someone who used to host... haha
@@mellena88 Zack doesn't even flinch the dude has balls or steel. Throwback to that 2nd gen camaro that barely even ran and looked like it was going to break into a million pieces at any given second during it's first take though lol.

Big Block 🤤 In this truck is just perfect. It’s not too overdone. It doesn’t look to futuristic. It doesn’t look cheap. The color is spot on. This is what Chevy is all about !!!!!! This build will age well because of its simplicity! I would pay 60k for this easy, over a newer model.

Watching this video and listening to you laugh as you power down the road reminds me of the first drive I took in my "mistress", a '69 C-10 SWB 2WD with a sbc 350, 25+ years ago.
I've put 3 sbc350's and 2 turbo 350s in her and almost a million miles on her as my everyday driver.
Recently I was rearended at a stop light by a 2018 1/2 ton Chevy that was going 45mph...it dented my bumper and tailgate and broke 1 tail light lense and my back glass... but the new truck was totalled! I felt sorry for the guy, he wasted over 50k on plastic and tin instead of good old solid American steel.
I do have to take exception to your statement that the C-10 doesn't handle. At speed, my non-power steering is as responsive and nimble as any performance car I've ever driven.
The suspension is basicly a design very successful baja vehicles have used.
Now the brakes are another thing...non-power drum, factory original too.
Surprisingly I get basicly the same fuel efficiency, as long as I keep my foot out of it, as "modern" trucks without all the computers and electronics.
There are times I wish she was 4x4 but she has never let me down. There is nothing like the rush you get cruising down the road at 70mph with the windows down in a "thicc" C-10!

I had one of these when I was 19 still my favorite vehicle. Something about the way you sit in them and those swing arms coming all the way up to the cab they ride so nice. And when you're 19 that glove box lid is an ideal joint rolling desk:-) :-)

I couldn't quite capture how good it was, but the road reflection was dead straight. you couldn't see a wave anywhere. Very impressive for a deep black. ZK

Truck was built almost 7 years ago wow, the RamJet 502/85E package from GM is sweet in truck like that, blower is cool and all but imagine a big honking turbo under there 😍
I got something sorta similar this summer. An 81 one though. I sure love it. She got stepsides and everything. I couldn't ask for more

Have my dad's c-10 long box that I'm going to be restoring and dropping a big block in to tow my camper, can't wait to feel that experince of driving a c-10 with a big block.

My favorite part of a large displacement V8 is the effortless power with zero lag that they make at 2000 rpm.

Look for farming towns. the Chevy C10 is broke down everywhere. A lot of farmers went to Ford and left the C10 broke in some ditch. Idaho has a nearly 90% Ford usage on all farms . Shit isnt dependable under any condition. Only POS Dodge and CHevy guys praise their POS's when the 500k Ford out works their ass
3 things to look out for. Paint, glass, and a fuel tank that isn't rusted/smells like varnish. Everything else is super easy to replace or fix.

The 85e was standard in 8.1 suburbans and 8.1 vans rated to tow 13k It was never hooked to the Dmax. The 80e was used in 6.0 3/4 trucks, vans and 8.1 avalanche. The 85e can handle 450 lb torque as the 80 was rated at 400 lb. 80 and 85 cases are the same the 85 has much lager internsals and can easily be built to handle excess of 800 lb of torque. A turbo 400 with an overdrive is the best way to sum it up
Wiki taught me wrong! It said it was in Savana's that had the Duramax. From a diesel forum, " I have a 2006 GMC Savana 2500 with the LLY Duramax and the 4L85E tranny..." ?
Yup 2500 Savanna’s had the 85E behind them because the Allison couldn’t fit in the van chassis.
The 80e came out in 91 and has been put behind a lot of engines including small blocks as well as the big blocks in the 1 ton trucks. The 4L80e transmission found its way not only into significant GM applications, but also into luxury marques, including Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Aston Martin, as well as less glorious vehicles such as school buses and motor homes. It's strange the 60e is weak junk, barely capable of surviving stock power applications, while the 80e is the opposite, capable of being plucked out of a junkyard and run behind a 1000hp LS turbo race car (with a shift kit).
Yup I’ve actually seen it behind a 1990 RR Corniche, Bentley Turbo R’s and all the 6.75 Bentley Arnage’s until they were replaced by the ZF 6 Speed in 2006 which is also a great tranny.

Does anybody know what brand of paddle shifters this C10 has?
i had that same motor in a 84 corvette ecept i tore it down put arias 10.5 compression pistons in it and crane roller cam and bought 572 aluminum rectangle port heads on it with a victor jr aluminum intake manifold and 1150 holly on it but ran it with a 850 for a while it ran better actuualy with the 850 than the 1150 it would come out of the gate quicker with the smaller carb i also had the 4l80e transmission i went threw 3 built 700 r transmissions built with kevlar bands it would destroy the 700 r transmissions in high gear it would let the smoke out of the trans when id romp on it in high gear i had alot of fun in that car i wish i still had it everybody told me you cant put that motor in a corvette i said watch me got her done in a week with a little fabrication had to notch out the firewalll on corvette a little bit but i got it in there had all eight pipes into one pipe out the passenger side of car it sounded like a drag boat when i romped on iot i got the 15th 502 of gm assy line the serial number was xxw te00015

Gauges are made by Classic Instruments. This gauge type is called the "All American Series". They have a package that is a direct replacement for the factory cluster.
Now here is a truck I wouldn't mind owning
i had full manual shift in my vette it was shift selonoid a and b worked the shiftin when both switches was off it would be in 2nd gear when selonoid a was on it would be in first gear off in 2nd gear solinoid b on it would be in 3rd gear a and b on it would be in 4th gear and i hoooked up the force motor which regulated how hard it shifted to the map senser and it would shift hard with no manifold pressure and when cruiseing softer shift had 2 toggle switches on steering wheel to shift it way before alll these paddle shifters were even heard of
The real question is how good are those huge blacked out speakers?

I built a 500 Inch Big block for my 67 C10 SB dynoed at 632 HP NA no super charger with 850 DP carb. Really can't use more then 500 HP on the street unless you street race. I find it hard to keep the tires stuck to the road with that much. Mine has Brodex race rite heads and 10 to 1 pistons no need for a super charger. My truck body wasn't as good as most had been used rough so I made it more like a street rod still painted black but I wanted the look of 80's hot rod no electronics. I want that old school rich smelling carb not really a fan of FI in a classic car.

Try classic heartbeat or gmc pauls. Brothers used to be good but they have outgrown themselves and customer service is terrible.

A PROFESSIONAL SHOP tried not 1, but 2 60e's? Behind a BLOWN 502? Those things are notorious for not holding up in stock 4.8/5.3 applications, let alone behind a motor making monstrous amounts of torque like you know this one does. Beautiful truck, I've got a '71. But as soon as I planned on putting a cam in the 5.3, I immediately sold the 60e I had gotten with it and bought a th400. It bolts right up. Uses factory mount and crossmember. No modification to the tunnel or firewall, many of the 67-72 trucks came from the factory with big blocks and th400's in them. So why fool around with the 60?

I own a c20 and its funny that he mentions a miata because I own one of those too. My truck is a 1969 and the miata is a 1992. Both are very loveable vehicles, everyone shits on miatas for being gay, but they're not so gay when you slap an ebay turbo kit into them, drop it down with bc coil overs, install wheel spacers so you ain't space shippin, and make the car go vroom vroom and sideways around corners. Dont hate on tuners. Hate on ricers. There is a difference.
