Me: Journey better be on this list. Hell, if it doesn't top this list for it's combination of story, sound design, lack of dialogue and original multiplayer mechanics something else truly incredible better top it. WC: Brothers, A Tale of Two Sons. Me: You got me there, WC.
No RiME? It was a gorgeous game, you play as a boy who wakes up on a strange beach and you have to try and find out what happened to him. Each of the areas you visit is constructed to have a different meaning. Stunning art style and beautiful music. Another really touching tale that only unravels and makes sense as you reach the end.
Commenter edition? Unravel and its sequel! It started off fun and light, but quickly became a powerful story. Abzu was also able to illicit a variety of emotions through music and visual tone alone--I cant have been the only one who felt lonely and unnerved during the slow decent in the abyss level... I was super happy to see Old Man's Journey on this list and hope people go check it out. Easily one of the most unique games I've played in a while.
This channel is great and always gives me ideas about decent games to consider buying, Also, the little extra MH notes at the end are a nice bonus. I live with SMI and it;s great to have it recognised - games help a lot!
I absolutely LOVE games like this!! SOTC, Journey and Brothers are some of my favourite games Adding some of my other faves to this list: Abzu Papo & Yo Rime Rain Machinarium Little Nightmares Inside Limbo Last Day Of June Unravel 1 & 2
It's strange that on this list is not "arise a simple story" I think that game is top 3 if not No.1. Phenomenal story told without a single word. You guys should definitely include that one in this list.
I actually still have my hand drawn map of the second play thru of The Legend of Zelda- this was way before things like clue books and later the internet became sources to learn from...
I fully expected to see Inside on this list, and I'm shocked it wasn't on here. Inside threw me for a loop when I first played it, and then some more when I internetted [that should be a real word] other meanings to the game.
Most of the Metroid games have done a great job of storytelling with very few words. There are logs to read in the Prime titles, and some dialogue in the third one, but it’s still pretty minimal. And I don’t know if it’s a coincidence that the one with the most dialogue is also the worst one, but here we are.
"The Witness"...? No..? *SPOILER ALERT (very minor; I'm only about halfway through)* I know there are audio recordings in the game that allude to the story but most of the game is pure golden silence.
@@emerje0 So you don't think the music tells the story? While that isn't 100% true, Aerith's death, for example, had no voice acting, yet it's one of the most powerful moments in video game history. It wasn't necessarily the dialogue that made it so sad, but the music. Once Aerith's theme begun to play, that's when it hit the hardest.
@@CloudStrife-rw8bj You're missing the point. The games on this list have no discernable dialogue AT ALL. At most they might speak in a made up language. FF games are overloaded with talking from I to XV.
@@emerje0 Yes they do, what're you talking about? It's literally readable, LoZ for example, has fuckin' dialogue. Just because you can't hear them talking doesn't mean they aren't.
@@CloudStrife-rw8bj LoZ was a slightly questionable choice, but Jules gave his reason for including it and it's far, far away from the text blocks in FF. FF isn't comparable to anything on this list, otherwise every 8 or 16 bit RPG and even a lot from the 32 bit era would qualify as well.
Never forget Rowan Atkinson achieved comedy without speaking a single word
Common misconception that Mr. Bean didn't talk, but he usually spoke a few words every episode.
What about Charlie Chaplin?
@@emerje0 - And his voice/words were always golden haha
"Tedddeeh"
He spoke. Hulk probably spoke fuller sentences but Mr. Bean spoke.
3 I would have personally added. 1. Inside, 2. Limbo & 3. Little Nightmares ♥️
All amazing games
"Journey" popped into my head immediately.
Same here, and I may add that it is the only multiplayer game I play.
And it is the only game that made me cry.
Me: Journey better be on this list. Hell, if it doesn't top this list for it's combination of story, sound design, lack of dialogue and original multiplayer mechanics something else truly incredible better top it.
WC: Brothers, A Tale of Two Sons.
Me: You got me there, WC.

LEGO Star Wars the complete saga was told without words
Commenter edition? Unravel and its sequel! It started off fun and light, but quickly became a powerful story. I killed way more than 16 things in SotC. I murdered the hell out of those stamina geckos.
Dammit man, these little end notes always hit me HARD. Thank you man
RiME is an absolutely beautiful deep story and shell shaded game and totally should have been on this list. I highly recommend
There's a lot of good games on this list! Glad to see Brothers getting mentioned too, it's one of my faves 😊
I was weirded out, when there wasn't Unravel in this list. But I still think thid list was good
Inside was the first that came to my mind
Thank you!
Ori and The Blind Forrest. Those first minutes, beautiful.
No love for "Another World"? It told a simple, deep story, and one of the first ever games to do so.
Great list jules . I've played a few of these myself and are very memorable. I may look into some of the others I haven't played yet .
You guys forget to include INSIDE . The game never gives away it's explanation . Yet it is like the totem is spining and the scene cuts to black .
Awesome outro =) Expected a product roll but was just pure wholesome love it! Subbed
Rime. Where is Rime. That game had me in tears.
Limbo, Inside, Unravel. All awesome games that were not mentioned.
Ah damn you Jules i played old man's journey because of this, and it got me good.... right in the feels.
Rime was amazing and is on my personal list
This channel is great and always gives me ideas about decent games to consider buying, Also, the little extra MH notes at the end are a nice bonus. I live with SMI and it;s great to have it recognised - games help a lot!
Thinking about "Limbo", thought it'd be on this list
Honourable mention to Rime. That snuck up on me.
I absolutely LOVE games like this!! SOTC, Journey and Brothers are some of my favourite games
Adding some of my other faves to this list:
Abzu
Papo & Yo
Rime
Rain
Machinarium
Little Nightmares
Inside
Limbo
Last Day Of June
Unravel 1 & 2
No love for Unravel? That game is spectacular!
I’d also say Rime is another great example.
I find that Inside is missing from this list to be a FASCINATING oversight.
It's strange that on this list is not "arise a simple story" I think that game is top 3 if not No.1. Phenomenal story told without a single word. You guys should definitely include that one in this list.
Last Day Of June. That game was powerful.
I'm rather puzzled by the lack of mention to Hyper Light Drifter.
For me isn't just a game but a character that says his story with one word
And that is : BOY
Didn't expect Fe to be a part of this!! Woah
Valiant Hearts is one of the best games ever made. It's so sad UbiArts is basically dead
Nice job but INSIDE (or even Limbo for that matter) is a no brainer for this list.
So is RiME.
What about Abzu? Even if it was very similar to Journey it was still original enough.
brothers a tale of two sons was going to be top of my list
I miss Last Day of June, nonetheless a great list again :)
Journey, Little Nightmares and Ori and The Will Of the Wisp came right into my mind. Where's the other 2 tho
Great video.jules love to see.a lot of indie titles. Your a top bloke
Journey was the first that came to my mind. And it deserves to be ported to the switch.
Inside gotta be number 1 imho
I actually still have my hand drawn map of the second play thru of The Legend of Zelda- this was way before things like clue books and later the internet became sources to learn from...
If you every make a follow-up video, Far: Lone Sails would be right at home on the list. I think you'd like it.
To me, Journey shoud have been #1 on this list. Because the game is just beautiful and tranquil.
First one that came to mind was the last day of june.
I fully expected to see Inside on this list, and I'm shocked it wasn't on here. Inside threw me for a loop when I first played it, and then some more when I internetted [that should be a real word] other meanings to the game.

"Heyyyyyyyyyy some of these titles have dialogue"
Man I would have thought The Last Day of June would've been on here.
One of my favorites is hyper light drifter
What? No "Last Day of June"?
Last Day of June and Beyond Eyes.
No Dropsy?
An underrated game indeed.
A Bird Story
Neat artistic game from a cool little Canadian dev.
Firewatch. Masterpiece.
thanks Jules
Can somebody tell me what the first game in the intro is?
Reading comments, people are confusing no words (this list) with main characters that don't talk.
It's oldschool but Super Metroid told had lots of emotion without using words except for the intro of course
INSIDE
Thought Journey would take the top spot, but have no issue with Brothers being #1. That said, surprised Limbo didn't make the cut.
The three games that came to my.mind instantly were The Witness, Journey, and Minecraft
Also Limbo and Visage
I don't like ubisoft games that much personally because of their downgrades but valiant hearts was really a masterpiece made by ubisoft.
The first tree should have been in the list
Ryme you ever Played that one?
Wow never been this early
i had hoped Rime woud have made it, but alas
Journey better be on this it absolutely has to be...
I was going to say To the Moon, but I haven't watched enough to know if it uses words to tell the story.
it does.. cause you'll be completely lost without words o-o
"The Witness"...? No..?
*SPOILER ALERT (very minor; I'm only about halfway through)*
I know there are audio recordings in the game that allude to the story but most of the game is pure golden silence.
Do a list of games where we did more damage than good
What about RiMe?
ok but why is Blondie next in my suggestions?
It's "Beds Are Burning" by Midnight Oil for me (I've never searched for the song or the band in any browser EVER) Spookular..
*colossal booknerd*
Hyper light drifter :-)
I see a Mr. Bean reference in one of the comment below.
colors and shapes.
Tree isn't here?
Yeah Jules
Hey
I liked Rime
Why isn’t limbo here?
Inside?
Top 16 coment
so I pretty much am the only person on Earth who couldn't get into Journey at all & found it extremely boring...
OUTER WILDS??????
Bruh wb SSBB story
Hello neighbor??? You literally can’t read anything no words whatsoever. It left me wondering what the hell happened.
ICO anyone?
Top 5 comment
Mr bean
Limbo?
My first thought was dark souls. But it’s not the story that sticks with that one.
I prefer history over gameplay, thats why i love mg3 and hate mg5
What about super smash Bros brawl?
Super smash bros brawl
So... No love for Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7? Yeah...
Those games are like reading a book, how on Earth would they qualify for this list?
