It's astonishing to me that this composer, Simeon ten Holt is not more well known. I had never once heard his name until I moved to the Netherlands three years ago. His music is incredible, and it is, in my opinion, much richer in color than other minimalist composers like Glass and Reich.
Just beautiful... Working at home on my computer because of Covid... the snow is falling... Now the sun is out... and music is floating around my room. Thank you Krishanth Suriyapragasam for uploading such sublime music and greetings from the UK.
Many thanks for this post. Getting to know more of the music of Simeon ten Holt. (Canto Ostinato 26 April 2014 is very nice too) Thanks for the art in the video.
The minimal compositions of the Dutch compositor ten Holt on one of the annual festivals of the Concertgebouw at Brugge are revolutionary and in combination with the beautiful painting of the Bulgartian Mitchev it is simply a treat. Thanks for uploading
You know when something just fits 'right' with some part of your unconscious (?) mind? It just gives you an overall good/positive feeling (not necessarily happy, but positive nevertheless). This is doing that for me :). Like sometimes music makes me feel empty/anxious - but this music is definitely making me feel positively in some way. Thank you very much for sharing it! Also I love the paintings.
I find it so interesting, as an aspiring composer, that Simeon is able to create this fabric of chordal harmony with 2 or 3 completely separate melodic lines! He weaves them together with such ease, it is truly astonishing! Absolutely inspiring!
Hij heeft wel mooie composities gemaakt zeg, behalve het Canto Ostinato kende ik eigenlijk niet zoveel werk van Simeon ten Holt, dit Palimpsest is ook wel erg mooi. For the non Dutch speaking readers: He certainly made beautiful compositions, apart from the Canto Ostinato I did not know much work by Simeon ten Holt, this Palimpsest is also very beautiful indeed
A delight. The images complement the music perfectly-- I adore the subtle transformations -- they seem to breathe. I'm rapt! It's brilliant. Thank you, Mr. Suriyapragasam.
Hahaa, she says that this is her favorite piece by Ten Holt and how it fascinates her that the strings go from thin to sharp, from warm to hurtful, all this in one big breath...
can't keep from playing that over and over again.... cheers to the uploader: really like the music generally ! and also the paintings... e.x. the ones for the proverb video... thank you very much!
If I understood, one part creation and inspiration, another sweat, the daily work of sculpture. We have a poet, João Cabral de Melo Neto, perhaps excessive in his speech, but to be considered: "poetry is not the fruit of inspiration because of the feeling", but of perspiration: "fruit of the patient and lucid work of the poet". Thank you for your attention.
The music is fantastic ... I already read about the composer whom I did not really know; But I would like to know the name of the artist who authored the paintings that you present in the videos. They are beautiful. Thank you. Hugs from Colombia!
I am sure the composer of this music got his inspiration, if not the direct melody, from the 4th movement (Alla Danza Tedesca) of Beethoven's string quartet no. 13 in B flat, op. 130, and then he wove a series of overlays and harmonic variations. Compare: th-cam.com/video/GAyVh25N1wU/w-d-xo.html I wonder what Mr Holt could have done with the Grosse Fuge that accompanied the same quartet.

Exquisite music, lovely performance and very appropriate painting. Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
This piece has accompanied me through many happy and sad moments, like someone having a deep emotional comforting conversation with me...
wat een mooie uitvoering!!
Some melodic, not-all-that-dissonant avant garde music. Refreshing. Reminds me of Phillip Glass, but a little more melancholy.
What a fantastic song…cheers with much love….

@Nicola. Good morning and good comments, I love this song. How are you and what's the weather like today?
I don’t usually like this sort of heavily stylised, sentimental, romantic art, but I adore the music and the art works very well with it.
This very interesting piece was suggested on my page by TH-cam - thank you for uploading
Just amazing this! Alexandre Coutinho
Interesting paintings and music, thank you from Coastal Oregon in the USA.

Love the Dutch language: I don't know a single word but could understant your comment, weil es klingelt ein bisschen wie Deutsch.

A ten Holt composition that I didn't know of. A real wake-up call for all who think of ten Holt as the guy who wrote the Canto Ostinato
Fantastic. Thank you for this
Troublant. Haendel a parfois l'air bien proche...

Who are the musicians/the ensemble performing the piece?
According to Shazam (for what it's worth), the Doelen Ensemble.

Sorry, I have just found him: 'Peter Mitchev'
