    I was able to audition both and the Speedwoofer stayed in my second home theater. It's closer at being a 50/50 sub than the Mono. The midbass is very very punchy which is where the majority of effects for movies are! It actually hit me harder in the chest than the mono. If you do not care about music or mid bass slam for movies go for the Monolith, My HSU VTF-15 MK 2 is in my main theater and a perfect 50/50 sub.

    Thanks for the great review. I chose the Monolith M10-S 10" THX.
    For anyone that's not familiar, the Monolith is also available in a completely sealed enclosure which is not as tall as the ported version reviewed here. Speaking of fun in sampling music, I do know exactly what you mean. Not only am I experiencing all kinds of new subtle sounds from old music, but surprisingly discovering a lot of low frequencies in TV shows as well. Which was totally unexpected, and pleasantly surprising. I had no idea they were so much low frequencies effects used in the TV shows these days.
    As for music, I'm not just getting a whole new low frequency experience, but also a bit cleaner highs too, since the SW takes some of the low frequency stress off my satellites. I can comfortably hear the string bass in Tchaikovsky's Symphony #5 with a bit more woodwinds without having to increase the volume to neighbor complaining levels.

    • @krane15
      @krane15 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dry509 I did not audition the Speedwoofer, I decided purely on the reviews including the one above. I originally attempted to purchase the RSL based on those high reviews, but they were out of stock at the time, so I got the sealed Monolith instead. I chose sealed due to their claims of superior musicality and linear curve. However, to be honest there's not a lot of (non specialty) music down that low.
      Unless you're a reviewer, the only way to compare them side by side is to buy them all, and send them back if you're not satisfied. Although you're responsible for return shipping, so that could prove to be expensive.

    • @dry509
      @dry509 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @krane15
      @krane15 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dry509 You're welcome. Its been a while since I've had decent speakers and a subwoofer, so when I connected mine I was pleasantly surprised at all the low-end that even the typical TV shows now have to offer. The bass comes on so gradually its memorizing. I even added DVDs to my Netflix subscription in recognition of getting all the bass that my new SW has to offer (I'm watching Aquaman right now and loving it).
      The bass from the Monolith M10-S 10" is clean and accurate and never boomy or fatiguing -- which is what I prefer -- nor does it ever feel strained. Although I have to admit I'm pretty conservative with the volume and never go past the 1/4 mark. Anymore and it would just be too much for my small 9X16 listening area. I've been auditioning them now for going on a month, and have zero complaints so far.
      Monoprice gives you a 30 day no question asked return, but this one is definitely a keeper. Do let us know what one you choose, and how you like it.

    Hey bro, your audio quality has been consistently low for your videos and I see why... Your lav microphone is too far down your shirt, try clipping it where your top bottom is... That microphone is designed for very close monitoring, you'll hear the difference on your next recording... Nice video otherwise, I think the Monoprice is ugly like the Batmobile, but it's geared towards home theater... The Speedwoofer 10s is indeed sweet with music but just doesn't dig as deep... I think aesthetics will win out with most buyers though, especially those with wives lol

      There are at least a dozen Batmobiles. Anyway, the Monolith won't win any beauty contest, but I though it look the best of the two. Being understated allow it to "quietly" fit into any decor without offending.
      The Speedwoofer on the other hand, screams for attention. But I don't buy a SW because of the way it looks. In fact, I'd much rather hide it if I could. As far as anyone would know, I just have a pair of really, really good bookshelf speakers -- also Monolith.

  • @JaysStraightUpReviews
    @JaysStraightUpReviews 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Kind of strange that the Speedwoofer 10s would sound better for music or louder in mid-bass. In that 50-80Hz range they are about equal in output. Below that the Monolith 10 has an output advantage and at 25Hz it has more than double the output capability. Added on top of that is the Monolith 10 plays with low distortion. I've never heard the Speedwoofer 10s, but the Monolith 10 is an incredibly clean and accurate sub. It's a great music sub and can even be operated sealed. Not sure how the Speedwoofer is even close. The more obvious comparison would be between the Monolith 10 vs. SVS PB-1000 and the Speedwoofer 10s vs. the Emotiva BasX S10.

      Because unless you have heard the RSL, you cant make assumptions. I have two RSL Speedwoofer 10S's and let me tell you. The chest pounding hard slam of the RSL's is for real. There is certain music I test subs out with and specific scenes in movies. These have more mid bass slam than most subs i have heard or owned. I had the SVS PC2000 and the RSL's hit harder than that. Now they dont energize a room with deep powerful bass like the SVS but they are sure hard hitting and quick.

    • @JPWinters
      @JPWinters 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffadams9699 Interesting. There is certainly more to subs than the measurements. I have a Klipsch SPL-150 (15" ported) and a JBL S120pii (12" ported) and both subs are very good but the JBL has significantly more mid-bass kick drum chest slam. Listening to Metallica's black album makes it very obvious. I am considering replacing the JBL with two Speedwoofers because I want to maintain good music punch but clean up some of the JBL bloat. I'm also considering the dual Rythmik L12's or perhaps JL Audio. Any thoughts?

  • @07wrxtr1

    I thought "mid bass" is the enemy being that it can be localized and make room placement a nightmare (thus requiring a pair). I'd go MonoPrice all day. The entire point is nailing down the 15-40 hz range which separates the avg crap sub/'me too' crowd from the best.

    @iTz_RaptorV1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tbh this opinion I feel is very subjective as the fact that you say it's better for mid punchiness, but that's essentially the tower speaker midbass drivers job to do. I feel for my application with Polk s60 towers and a monolith 10 it'd be the perfect match since the towers already go down to 26hz and are very responsive In midbass so the monolith would take care of the low low bass the towers cannot hit. I wouldn't add puncher bass as it's kinda redundant imo

    I am having a hard time choosing between the PB 1000 and Mono 10". I own a pair of Kanto Tuks which have an active crossover at 80hz + built in DSP. The 5.25" aluminum drivers can only go down to 50hz so i'm missing out on alot. I mainly play video games, watch movies and TV series. I rarely listen to music outside of movies but have a song in mind for comparison.
    " Dune Official Soundtrack | Paul's Dream - Hans Zimmer | WaterTower " When this played in the Imax showing I was sent to another dimension. Between 3:00-4:30 there is a nice undertone of bass that really sucks you in but around 4:45-5:20 there is some quick / precise bass notes that really hit you in the chest.

      Sealed SW have more resistance and tend to need a lot of power. Porting is a designed alternative to get really low and really loud while keeping the power requirements within reason. The negative is that the port may vibrate and increase distortion when playing very low. They also may be boomy, which is a love or hate characteristic.

As they both seem to have roughly the same amount of output, yet the Monolith is a 10” and costs $900 LESS then the Klipsch 15” subwoofer. A bit of a strange comparison, but I have owned the SPL-150 as well as the RSL Speedwoofer 10S, but not the Monolith. I don't own either anymore but both were actually quite good. The SPL-150 hit ***significantly*** harder and deeper than TWO Speedwoofer 10s's. However just like the reviewer said, the RSL has more mid-bass punch and the 10" is quicker. I liked the dual 10's better in a music system than the SPL-150 but even the big sub wasn't slow or sloppy for music. It can definitely do it, especially electronica type stuff. I got the SPL-150 for a good price too. If you have a medium or large size room and are doing movies, keep the SPL-150. I've heard a lot of subs. It's well worth $740 if you have the space. If you have a smaller room and more emphasis on music, look toward the other two subs.

      @@JPWinters Hey man, you look like you know your subs, would you recommend two RSLs for music listening or 2 HSU VTF2s. The HSU go deeper but I don't know of they can be as musical as the 10s. I'm looking for the best musical subs I can find. The only step up from RSL I have found is maybe the REL subs which go over over $1k each.

      @@ArthaxtaDaVince777 Thanks. I've heard 3 HSU subs. None of them were good for music in my opinion. To me they sounded slow, to put it simply. One of them even bottomed out. For music & under 1k, the following subs are tighter and overall better for music than the RSL: Rythmik L12, Rythmik F12-400, REL HT-1205. There are others, but it depends on your room size & how much of a basshead you are? The Rythmiks will go deeper, the REL will be faster. The HT-1205 is the fastest sub on the market. Personally I don't think the REL T series are a good value. Not enough output and not enough extension.

      @@JPWinters Thanks for the reply bro. I listen to mainly Rock, Jazz, Prog and Metal. I'm not much of a bass head, I prefer accuracy, speed and tone. Which sub do you think would be best for accuracy and detail. I'm pairing them with my Focal Aria 948s.

    • @JPWinters
      @JPWinters 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArthaxtaDaVince777 The VTF2 would've definitely not been a good match, I think you would've hated them. The RSL would've been better, but still not a good match. Definitely stick with a sealed design. Since electronica is not one of your main genres, all 3 subs I listed will be plenty low enough. The 3 subs listed will be much more similar to each other than different, and it's splitting hairs now. There is no wrong choice between those 3. 1205 wins speed, Rythmik wins tone. Accuracy up for grabs depending on your definition. Those Focal towers are very nice! Modern metal can get pretty low these days, my choice would be the Rythmik F12 or F12-400.

    I am worried about resolution of the bass and the quickness. The Monolith would probably loosen up over time but I have the feeling the RSL would be the better all rounder for me since I do half and half duty with my setup between music, and tv, movies...etc.
