You showed off a lot of Warhammer Art, and the Warhammer Ogres are definitely something to read up on. They were originally created to fight forces of corruption, explaining their absurd constitution, but a human empire took offense to them and tried to kill them all. That ended up with all ogres cursed to be forever hungry, which lead to them being rather food-oriented. In the modern era of Warhammer Fantasy, Ogres are much smarter than in DnD, and it's not rare to find ogres as smart as humans. Some even live among humans, forgoing eating them in exchange for nice weapons, armor, and other things. There is even a class of Ogre known as Maneaters, mercenaries with a gentle reminder to pay them after a battle, who often take aesthetic cues from their most valued customers and thus can appear (clumsily) with elf-ish garb, dwarf-ish armor, as pirates, or even dressed like vampires. I also would like to highlight that some Ogre Maneaters tend towards 'favored foods' that they like going after. The named example here is Brutogg Corpseripper, who enjoys eating the UNDEAD!
Had an idea for an ogre NPC in my game. Didn't have a chance to implement him yet. Maybe you can use him in your game. If travelling through forest area, they could encounter schdeef treepansha (Steve Treepuncher), an ogre, that is fascinated by the small folk, trying to imitate them. They could meet him "cutting" down trees, meaning punching them until they fall, trying to build a hut out of the "logs". He's friendly and harmless, unless you attack him. However, he is quite smart for an ogre. He tries to do things like the 'smalluns' do, imitating them similarly to how a toddler imitates its parents, with the difference that he can only observe people from afar due to them being afraid of him. So he does his best. If the PCs encounter him more than once, they can see him slowly working his way into making Tools from wood and bone, then stone, and maybe even metal at some point. His creations are always rough and clumsy, but they get the point across, like maybe the very stylish "Shirt" he made, that is more of a Poncho made out of very roughly woven straw, grass or reeds. He is inspired by Steve from Minecraft, after I saw a post of how he would look like translated outside of the blocky World of Minecraft.
Ogres are one of my favorite basic monster to put in low level campaigns (even though in 3.5 edition they could scale very well with any basic martial class like barbarian or fighter, but I don't know if it does well for the 5e). They are strong and intimidating but very easy for a clever player to trick (by spells or simply talking your way out). And while their role is pretty much the same everytime (big strong arms), it is one every main or secondary villain and their mothers need, and they fill that role extremely well.
I had a Keep full of Hobgoblins and they had some Ogres they kept around for breaking doors down and using in sieges. Having some Ogres as "bodyguards" to the Hob Warchief was a great fight that at one point had a Half-Orc Fighter jumping from a balcony down on top of one of the ogres. Cheap muscle is great.
I just did a session where we were playing the Giantslayer adventure path from Pathfinder 1st edition (which is basically rebranded D&D 3.5 edition), and had to go against a few as well. They are great enemies even for level 7 characters, as you can simply stick some martial classes to them which is what the adventure path did. They hit hard, so you have to take them down quickly or you go down quickly yourself.

For future reference, when talking about the bony bits in one the half-ogre breeds, you can call them osteoderms. This term is used by both biologists and paleontologists to describe bits of bony plate embedded in an animal's skin but are not a part of the skeleton itself. A good example of a living animal with osteoderms are crocodilians (crocs and gators), although with crocodilians they are covered with skin and aren't readily apparent. But I think it's as good a term as any, unless anybody knows of a more accurate term.

A long time ago, in a game far, far away...... I played a 1/2 ogre barbarian with a 5 int. His name was BOB and he was so dim didn't use pronouns or contractions and only spoke in short phrases. "Bob hungry". Someone give Bob something to eat. "Bob fight-y"". Get out of the way. "Bob horn-y". RUN!!!!! This was one of the most fun characters I ever played. It is easy to play a mage with an 18 int, he has probably read the DMG. BOB didn't know anything so I really had to work hard to make his ideas work out. In one game Bob, the mage and the rouge were standing over an open hole. The mage says "I guess we need to go down there. I did a pantomime of kicking in the butt. The mages' player burst out laughing and told the DM, that is exactly what BOB would do. The DM asked "Are you sure?" We both agreed. So the mage took fall damage, said " Thanks Bob." I looked at the rouge and grunted "Next?" And he said "I'll just wait for the rope." It is one of those things that still come up at the table.
I love playing as a Bob, I played a lizardfolk called Hide who was obsessed with eating and didn't understand civilised culture properly. He ate more shoes than Gale from bg3 and thought a tannery was a fancy restaurant.
Interesting stuff, good vid. I'll definitely use those mongrel-kin as a village of misfits living in a sewer! Since many giants follow evil and "Good" and "Evil" are kinda equally valid in D&D I think "Maat" and "Maug" would be better translated as "Right" and "Wrong."
I fuck with Half Ogres. So in my campaign rn, in the land of the Giants Jotunheim, I’ve made a faction called “Duh Famly” which is entirely composed of ogres, but more specifically Half Ogres. I leaned more heavily into the fact that they could interbreed with any humanoid, and toned down the dominance of the Ogre gene thru lore evolution stuff. But basically, when other races started flooding in, and after the initial confrontation, they started interbreeding with all sorts of stuff. Tortles, Minotaurs, Loxodon etc. And with the toned down Ogre Genetics, they still lean more heavily into the Ogre side of things, but also have very notable traits from the other race. So gangs of Ogres the size of hill giants with trunks, hyper buff ones with horns and an even shorter temper, and even elemental Genesai ogres are spread across the land, united under a single banner known as “Duh Famly”. Now they work as muscle for hire, being sent out by their matriarchs, the “Mommas”, to do different jobs.

I used to watch tons of your elder scrolls content and have finally found an interest in D&D after playing Baldur's Gate. Glad to see you are still making videos!
8:41 So uh, my nerd moment is that that's a picture of Pudge the Butcher from Dota, interestingly enough, Ogres would have a field day where he resides. Pudge lives/exists on the Fields of Endless Carnage, effectively a cursed zone of permanent warfare, where corpses don't decay or decompose. There's always more bodies appearing. Pudge was meant to effectively cut up every corpse and disembowel it to clean the battlefield, but eventually developed a taste for the bodies, eating them himself instead. "Even those who are beyond fearing the reaper, fear the butcher." If Ogre's lived there, my lord wouldn't they love it. It's an all you can eat buffet and 'club go smash' kinda place.
I think Ettins are true giants if memory serves correctly, but at the bottom for being the runt just above giant-kin. Also, "ettin" in Jotun (the giant language) means runt
It probably goes without saying since you're talking about Ogers. But do you think you'll be able to make a video on the magic Ogers aka Oni. They are literally my favorite mythological creatures.
When you got to the part about Giant-Kin and you said "Firbolg"... it reminded me, if I ever finish my campaign both versions of the Firbolg will exist in my world... The Fairy Firbolg, and the larger red-headed Firbolg. I like them both.
I literally looked up your channel last night thinking "man it's been a little while since we got an upload, I hope we get one soon" thanks for making that timing feel good lol

I love your videos Rhexx! Can I suggest a video about Tasha? I've recently purchased Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and I would like to know more about her.
Ok so hear me out on this one it's kinda crazy. I was playing a ranger on my first DND game cause I really loved Aragon but I played him to be more of a trickster character. Well my ranger was scouting ahead of the party and noticed several Bushes of Deadly night shade. Well my ranger makes note of this for the rogue and himself for later. 200 ft later a damn orger was right there. My character got threatened to be eaten. My character replayed with why eat me? I know of a lovely patch of bushes nearby that have the best berries. I rolled nat 20. The orger fallowed me to the patch of deadly night shade he ate all four bushes. Now keep in mind it only takes three berries to kill a fully grown man. And he ate four bushes. That was really fun.
I've been working on a character who's race could possibly fall under the giant kin category and the commandments segment gave me some great ideas for his lore and reasons to attack said giants or give him a God to defy
When talking about the order of ranks in the Ordening I remember that you said about Ettins being actually True Giants by blood of both Anem and Oatha but were so small in comparison that they got named Small in their language and it's been so long since the old wars with the dragons that the other true giants effectively removed the Ettins from the list of true giants. THey don't even know themselves that they are a true giant. Sad to think about
Just a note, Humanoid intelligence vs animal vs beast intelligence are different intelligence scales. Humanoid intelligence is far superior to the equivalent beast or animal.
I wonder if an ogre would stand before a statue of the Allfather, would he instinctively recognised it as Maat? or would he smash it, because the bearded dude won't blink?

I’d like to meet the brave gnome, halfling, or dwarf that would want to couple with an ogre…
*halfing bard limps into the tavern*
I like (genuinely) that some of the art you used is of warhammer ogors, especially the kingly lookin dude Greasus Goldtooth
Hi my name is Billy. I am one of the 2 founders at Owlghost Studios. We have been so happy to be working with you. Glad you are uploading again. Here is to a great 2024 🎉🥳
By the gods MrRhexx returns! Happy new year!
Why are your books not on DnD Beyond? 🤔
Just from the plug you gave I can tell they’re amazing. They deserve to be on there.
I used to watch tons of your elder scrolls content and have finally found an interest in D&D after playing Baldur's Gate. Glad to see you are still making videos!
All the warhammer fans are screaming and pointing at their screens every time you show Greasus Goldtooth and other WH art.
Thems in-walk troll house. Troll say, "Out mans!" But they wham-a-wham troll rocks. So troll wham, too!

"Even those who are beyond fearing the reaper, fear the butcher."
If Ogre's lived there, my lord wouldn't they love it. It's an all you can eat buffet and 'club go smash' kinda place.
Ogrillons and Mongrelmen remind me of Omens and Misbegotten from elden ring. The designs and even the general dna evolution vibe are quite similar.
I think Ettins are true giants if memory serves correctly, but at the bottom for being the runt just above giant-kin. Also, "ettin" in Jotun (the giant language) means runt
0:13 I choose to believe Yujiro inspired this face
Life is just the time spent waiting another of your video coming out
It probably goes without saying since you're talking about Ogers. But do you think you'll be able to make a video on the magic Ogers aka Oni. They are literally my favorite mythological creatures.
I know you most likely get a ton of comments asking for a video on a topic. But a video on Chauntea would be amazing!
Maat & Maug irrevocably have been added to my vocabulary. Bravo!
I've been waiting patiently for MrRhexx to post another video!! Just started the video and I'm excited to learn about ogres!!
Your videos are superb! I enjoy all of them, especially the one on the Dracolich!
Ive been on the hunt for information on Mountain Orks, the pig faced Orks, they rock! Thanks MrRhexx!
I find the history of the ogre of Krynn to be quite interesting too, with their "fall from grace" into savagery.
Irdas!
It's always a good day when MrRhexx uploads
Not only did papa Rhexx return, it's with a monster I wanted for a while!! Thank you!
This give me and 1 shot idea....NICE thanks for the background of the ogre
Wow MrRhexx. I dint know pretty mush anything about d&d before. Thanks to you after i watched the 7 step lore vidoes of yours i now understand what people are talking about in Baldurs gate 3 (that im now playing). I bow to thee superior scribe. ps. I will subsribe and leave some likes. Again I thank you.
I can't say that learning pretty in-depth details about Ogre/Orcish mating and genetics was on my New Years Resolutions, but I'm still watching, so...
Yes please bring back the giant series, you’ve only did two in the past
Not a single Shrek joke, I’m impressed, if not a little disappointed
I would even say. That technically speaking they aren't even "greedy" they just don't understand why they want. So they just want to eat or they would starve. That's all. No in between.
Hell yeah. Last night I thought about your videos and checked if there were any new ones. Cool to see one right the next day.
Thanks for coming back I missed your videos
I was just checking your channel to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I’m glad you’re ok. Happy new years!
Happy you are here, happy for whatever content you make sir.
Been missing your videos glad to see your back hope your well
I love your videos Rhexx! Can I suggest a video about Tasha? I've recently purchased Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and I would like to know more about her.
GM question. What role can ogres fill that can't also be could not be done by, say, Hill Giants?
I have bought all of your pdf's except for the monster classes series and I love all of them. Especially your AC revamp. Thanks Rhexx!
Dolphin intelligence is maybe not the best example given that dnd did them dirty with their Int score.
The way you talk about ogres makes me think you'd call me slurs if we lived in a different time.
I'm a bit disappointed you never really talked about how ogre mages fit into things.
I've been working on a character who's race could possibly fall under the giant kin category and the commandments segment gave me some great ideas for his lore and reasons to attack said giants or give him a God to defy
Nice to see you back. One monster i am curious about is oni? Maybe an interresting topic for a later video.
I’m glad your back, I was getting worried when you didn’t have a new video. Hope your doing well!
They also don't tell you that ogres are like onions, they have layers. They also don't like chatty donkeys and enjoy wrestling and playing hockey.
Sad to think about
Everyone gangster until they see an ogre mage.
Just a note, Humanoid intelligence vs animal vs beast intelligence are different intelligence scales. Humanoid intelligence is far superior to the equivalent beast or animal.
a video about those severed body parts, whether they have their own soul and conciousness and such, please.
I wonder if an ogre would stand before a statue of the Allfather, would he instinctively recognised it as Maat? or would he smash it, because the bearded dude won't blink?
glad to see another upload from you! i binge watched your d&d lore playlist so i’ve been waiting for something new
My mum had gestational diabetes, and considering I came out "looking like a linebacker" in her words, I think she could've birthed a half-ogre tbh.
Awesome video, like always. a Hartkiller lore video will be cool.
Please do a series on gem dragons. I love your videos on the chromas and metalics, I’ve listened to them multiple times when starting new campaigns, now I’m starting anew campaign on a new continent that’s filled with them and I can’t for the life of me find solid lore on them
Ogre 1: Which do you like better, my good looks or my good smile?
Ogre 2: Your good sense of humor
9:25 But Gnomes still can make Half-Ogre babies 😏
Was 5 mins in before I heard you say your name, I used to watch your skyrim videos religiously. Glad you're still kicking
fire video 🔥 didn’t expect the ogre episode to cut this deep into the lore
They were blessed with stupidity, so they didn't know they were on the bottom tier.
About 6 months ago I watched a video called "Ogryn Story" and so I changed orgres in my setting to be a subspecies of human that are more in line with Ogryns from 40k.
We missed you, bro. Thanks
How did i miss this one!? I love large humanoid creatures that love smashing, looting, scavenging and in the case of ogres eating. That's why I love trolls, ogres and giants. I also love their potential to be funny not even trying to. I love the ogors in age of sigmar and I would love to make some ogre, troll and giant characters for DND. As someone who loves the might makes right cultures of these creatures I'm thankful for this video.
ogres and orcs have been my favorite fantasy monsters since warcraft 1, due to their inherent tribalism. i just love the vibe of the tribe, which is why i also became a horde player when wow came out.
FOR THE HORDE!!!!
I claim this comment thread FOR THE ALLIANCE!
Ogres, what a haunting reflection of consumer culture!
I've been waiting for this since I got the Monster Class!
Crawling claws are as smart as ogres with literally no brain. Amazing
