Many kauravas broke rules. Why did he get the curse only? Because firstly he didn't knew the spell to bring back the branhastra and he used it casually without knowing it's impact. Secondly he directed it towards the womb of abhimanyu's wife during her labor time so that both his wife and the unborn son ( king parikshit ) die at the same time . Enraged by this act of murder of innocent mother during her labor and an unborn baby who had nothing to do with any conflict what so ever, krishna cursed aswatthama to live forever and wish for the blessing of death but never get it.

So In Mahabharata Ashwatthama is Guru Dronacharya's son. He is an avatar of one of the 11 rudras. He was also born with a gemstone, Mani on his forehead. On the other hand Ashwatthama was fighting for Kauravas because he wants power After getting defeated by The Pandavas in the war of Kurukshetra, Duryodhan, the eldest of the Kauravas asked his friend Ashwatthama to seek revenge (or maybe Ashwatthama just wanted to seek revenge for his friend's and father's death, I am not sur about this part. Anyway) So, Ashwatthama had a boon that he can summon the Bramhastra. After killing the son of the Pandavas. He went for their grandson, the successor of pandavas who is left and btw the successor, Parikshit was still in the womb of his mother. Ashwatthama then summoned the Brahmastra to kill the pandavas. Krishna, the 8th Avatar of Vishnu told Arjuna, one of the five Pandava brothers to summon his own Bramhastra, A sage Vyasa then intervenes and asked both the warriors to call back their Bamhastras as the clash of the will destroy the world. Arjuna then calls his waepon back. Ashwatthama however not knowing how to call bramhastra back, redirects it to the womb of Uttara, the mother of Parikshit, to kill him and tried to fullfill his oath. Krishna then saved both the mother and the child from the efects of Bramhastra. Ashwatthama then made to surrender. Krishna then cursed Ashwathama to roam the forests with blood and pus, and cry for death until the end of time, but death would not meet him. Krishna also made Ashwathama surrender his forehead gem. But Parsuram told him that he can't interven and took Ashwatthama to Sage Durvasa who happenes to be guru of Parsurama. Initially, seeing Ashwatthama, Rishi Durvasa was angry as he knew what sin Ashwatthama had committed. But Parsuram calm him down and seeing regret of Ashwatthama, he said that no one can uplift the curse except for Maa Shakti (Maa Durga). Because such heinous crime has no mercy except for a mother hear his cry and make him free. Ashwatthama then performed sever penance and started Shakti Sadhna. Maa Bhagwati eventually praised by his true regret and clean heart. She appears before him and heal his wound. She asked him to be the next Ved Vyasa for Satyuga (Next yuga after Kaliyuga) and also help and teach Kalki during his incarnation time. It is said that Pandavas also saw him healthy living beside river banks of Ganga when they were trekking for Swargarohan.

Just to give you guys a context and to make you able to explain to those who says that stone on forehead is copy of Vision from MCU, let me tell you that, this man Ashwatthama is one of the 7 entities that are believed to be Eternal in Hinduism.... And this guy had a discription of his looks like this from thousands of years... Context: this man has had that stone on is forehead by birth and after the end of Mahabharat war, he was angry because his father Guru Dronacharya was killed by Arjun... So he launched Bhramhastra towards Arjun (known to be the most deadliest weapon) and in response Arjun also launches his brahmastra... But Sage Vyas told both of them to call it back... So Arjun called it back.. but Ashwatthama didn't know how to call it back... So he reduced it's intensity and diverted it to the womb of Arjun's pregnent daughter-in-law so that atleast his generations would not come.... Therefore, he intentionally directs it towards Uttara's womb, which had Abhimanyu's child. He did it to destroy the Pandu lineage. But his efforts turned futile after Shri Krishna saved the baby in Uttara's womb by giving it a new lease of life. And hence, to punish him for the sins he had committed, Shri Krishna asked him to cut the jewel from his forehead and roam around the world in search of sympathy, love, mercy and peace of mind. And this curse proved to be deadlier than death because Ashwathama knew that he is immortal and that he shall have to carry the burden of his sins until the end of Kaliyuga( this is kaliyuga started just 10000 years ago approximately we have a lot time to suffer by Kali until the Kalki Avatar lands on this earth ). Immortals: In our history we have seven Chiranjeevis( immortals ) mentioned in the Indian scriptures and the names are Sage Vyas, Lord Hanuman, Lord Parashuram, Vibhishana, King Mahabali and Kripacharya. these immortals will help lord Kalki to fight the demons and injustice.

Its not the third eye, there was a pearl, a stone in his head since birth, which was removed on orders of Lord Krishna after the Mahabharata war, and it was Lord Krishna himself who cursed him because of his deeds after the war. He killed the Pandava's sons in sleep, and then launched an attack of Brahmastra, one of the most deadly weapon on the only lineage in the Pandava's line, Arjuna's grandson Parikahit and that too when he was still in the womb. That's why Lord Krishna cursed him to live until his 10th inarnation, i.e., Lord Kalki, and that is the wound in his forehead which always bleeds because of the curse.

In the great battle, Kurukshetra, Both Ashwatthama and Dronacharya fought alongside of Kuarava's. During the war, Pandavas tricks Dronacharya and gets him killed. Unable to control his anger Ashwatthama sneaks into Padava's camp and kills son's of Pandavas (Those days fighting a war during night was illegal). Realizing that Pandava's will kill him for his deeds, he ran away and try to portray himself as saint. But Arjuna calls him out for battle and scared Ashwatthama uses "Brhamasironamaka" Asthra, to restrain it, Arjuna uses "Brahmasthra". Since these Asthra's can cause mass destruction to mankind veda vyaasa advice both the parties to revoke their Asthra's.While Arjuna was able to do it, Ashwatthama cannot as he doesn't know how. So he routes it to kill the womb of Arjuna's daughter-in-law. Lord krishna saves the kid in the womb and gives curse to Ashwatthama that he will be living the entire kaliyuga(the present modern day) waiting for the last Avatara of Lord Vishnu (krishna) to reincarnate. And to make it more miserable, he asks arjuna to remove the diamond from Ashwatthama's forehead. Since then Ashwattham's forehead would always be oozing blood and he would be in tremendous pain for rest of his life. Many kauravas broke rules. Why did he get the curse only? Because firstly he didn't knew the spell to bring back the branhastra and he used it casually without knowing it's impact. Secondly he directed it towards the womb of abhimanyu's wife during her labor time so that both his wife and the unborn son ( king parikshit ) die at the same time . Enraged by this act of murder of innocent mother during her labor and an unborn baby who had nothing to do with any conflict what so ever, krishna cursed aswatthama to live forever and wish for the blessing of death but never get it.

So In Mahabharata Ashwatthama is Guru Dronacharya's son. He is an avatar of one of the 11 rudras. He was also born with a gemstone, Mani on his forehead. This stone gives him power over all living beings below humans, protects him from hunger, thirst, fatigue, old age, diseases, weapons, and deities, and makes him almost invincible and immortal. It is also said to protect him from demons and spirits.
Guru Dronacharya was the teacher of The Pandavas and The Kauravas. He and Ashwatthama fought in the battal from the Kaurava's side. Dronacharya had no other choice but to fight from the Kaurava side. On the other hand Ashwatthama was fighting for Kauravas because he wants power After getting defeated by The Pandavas in the war of Kurukshetra, Duryodhan, the eldest of the Kauravas asked his friend
Ashwatthama to seek revenge (or maybe Ashwatthama just wanted to seek revenge for his friend's and father's death, I am not sur about this part. Anyway)
So, Ashwatthama had a boon that he can summon the Bramhastra. After killing the son of the Pandavas. He went for their grandson, the successor of pandavas who is left and btw the successor, Parikshit was still in the womb of his mother. Ashwatthama then summoned the Brahmastra to kill the pandavas. Krishna, the 8th Avatar of Vishnu told Arjuna, one of the five Pandava brothers to summon his own Bramhastra, A sage Vyasa then intervenes and asked both the warriors to call back their Bamhastras as the clash of the will destroy the world. Arjuna then calls his waepon back. Ashwatthama however not knowing how to call bramhastra back, redirects it to the womb of Uttara, the mother of Parikshit, to kill him and tried to fullfill his oath. Krishna then saved both the mother and the child from the efects of Bramhastra. Ashwatthama then made to surrender.
Krishna then cursed Ashwathama to roam the forests with blood and pus, and cry for death until the end of time, but death would not meet him. Krishna also made Ashwathama surrender his forehead gem.
He is now waiting for Kalki, The 10th Avatar of Vishnu. He will help Kalki to defeat Kali.

Initially, seeing Ashwatthama, Rishi Durvasa was angry as he knew what sin Ashwatthama had committed. But Parsuram calm him down and seeing regret of Ashwatthama, he said that no one can uplift the curse except for Maa Shakti (Maa Durga). Because such heinous crime has no mercy except for a mother hear his cry and make him free.
Ashwatthama then performed sever penance and started Shakti Sadhna.
Maa Bhagwati eventually praised by his true regret and clean heart. She appears before him and heal his wound. She asked him to be the next Ved Vyasa for Satyuga (Next yuga after Kaliyuga) and also help and teach Kalki during his incarnation time.
It is said that Pandavas also saw him healthy living beside river banks of Ganga when they were trekking for Swargarohan.

Just to give you guys a context and to make you able to explain to those who says that stone on forehead is copy of Vision from MCU, let me tell you that, this man Ashwatthama is one of the 7 entities that are believed to be Eternal in Hinduism.... And this guy had a discription of his looks like this from thousands of years...
Context: this man has had that stone on is forehead by birth and after the end of Mahabharat war, he was angry because his father Guru Dronacharya was killed by Arjun... So he launched Bhramhastra towards Arjun (known to be the most deadliest weapon) and in response Arjun also launches his brahmastra... But Sage Vyas told both of them to call it back... So Arjun called it back.. but Ashwatthama didn't know how to call it back... So he reduced it's intensity and diverted it to the womb of Arjun's pregnent daughter-in-law so that atleast his generations would not come.... And furious lord Krishna due to this act of Ashwatthama, destroyed the stone from the forehead of Ashwatthama and cursed him to live eternally with this pain... And he lateron also revived the child in the womb of pregnent daughter-in-law of Arjun...
And apart from Ashwatthama's this revengeful act, he is indeed a scholar and knowledgeable... At that time he might not know how to call back brahmastra but after that incident he must've learnt it..🥲

The bleeding wound is a constant reminder to Ashwathama of his crimes(after the war was over and Pandavas won, Ashwathama killed almost all the children of Pandavas to eliminate their blood line, he even tried to kill Uttara, Abhimanyu's unborn child- hence the curse). He will live forever, bleed forever and regret forever. No redemption, and no one to forgive him.

Now why Aswatham is Immortal or cursed to be :
Ashwathama had the blood of innocent young children of the five Pandavas on his hands. He deceitfully killed them when they were asleep, to please his friend Duryodhana, who wanted to see the Pandavas dead, before breathing his last. Ashwathama knew that he had sinned by killing five innocent children, and he heads to Sage Vyasa's hermitage for penance. However, after realising that the Pandavas are alive and that he had killed their sons instead, Ashwathama releases the Brahmastra to fulfil his vow made to Duryodhana.
Shri Krishna asks Arjun to counter the Brahmastra by releasing the same Astra from his arrow, but Sage Vyasa stops the two lethal weapons from colliding. He knows how devastating it could have been to the universe. Therefore, the Sage asks Arjun to take his weapon back, but Ashwathama fails to retrieve it. Therefore, he intentionally directs it towards Uttara's womb, which had Abhimanyu's child. He did it to destroy the Pandu lineage. But his efforts turned futile after Shri Krishna saved the baby in Uttara's womb by giving it a new lease of life.
And hence, to punish him for the sins he had committed, Shri Krishna asked him to cut the jewel from his forehead and roam around the world in search of sympathy, love, mercy and peace of mind. And this curse proved to be deadlier than death because Ashwathama knew that he is immortal and that he shall have to carry the burden of his sins until the end of Kaliyuga( this is kaliyuga started just 10000 years ago approximately we have a lot time to suffer by Kali until the Kalki Avatar lands on this earth ).

In our history we have seven Chiranjeevis( immortals ) mentioned in the Indian scriptures and the names are Sage Vyas, Lord Hanuman, Lord Parashuram, Vibhishana, King Mahabali and Kripacharya. these immortals will help lord Kalki to fight the demons and injustice.

The wait of Ashwathama for Last battle, it is said that Ashwathama will support Lord Vishnu's avatar (reincarnation) called Kalki in the last battle of Kaliyuga, against evil. And, then he will get salvation.

Its not the third eye, there was a pearl, a stone in his head since birth, which was removed on orders of Lord Krishna after the Mahabharata war, and it was Lord Krishna himself who cursed him because of his deeds after the war. He killed the Pandava's sons in sleep, and then launched an attack of Brahmastra, one of the most deadly weapon on the only lineage in the Pandava's line, Arjuna's grandson Parikahit and that too when he was still in the womb. That's why Lord Krishna cursed him to live until his 10th inarnation, i.e., Lord Kalki, and that is the wound in his forehead which always bleeds because of the curse.

Mahabharata is Ithihasa, Ithihasa in Sanskrit means "History". Nevertheless, Mahabharata was about "Kuru" dynasty and great battle (kurukshetra) between cousins in it, Pandavas (5), Kauravas(100) and their allies. Coming to Ashwatthama, he is a son of Dronacharya (who happens to be guru of both pandavas and Kauravas). Ashwatthama born with a Diamond on his forehead which protects him from any health related issues and possesses quick healing properties.Dronacharya was very much fond of his disciple Arjuna ( Middle one in Pandava) and treats him better than his own Son Ashwatthama. Hence Ashwatthama was jealous. Dhuryodhana( Head of Kauravas) ceasing the opportunity makes friendship with Ashwatthama.
In the great battle, Kurukshetra, Both Ashwatthama and Dronacharya fought alongside of Kuarava's. During the war, Pandavas tricks Dronacharya and gets him killed. Unable to control his anger Ashwatthama sneaks into Padava's camp and kills son's of Pandavas (Those days fighting a war during night was illegal). Realizing that Pandava's will kill him for his deeds, he ran away and try to portray himself as saint. But Arjuna calls him out for battle and scared Ashwatthama uses "Brhamasironamaka" Asthra, to restrain it, Arjuna uses "Brahmasthra". Since these Asthra's can cause mass destruction to mankind veda vyaasa advice both the parties to revoke their Asthra's.While Arjuna was able to do it, Ashwatthama cannot as he doesn't know how. So he routes it to kill the womb of Arjuna's daughter-in-law. Lord krishna saves the kid in the womb and gives curse to Ashwatthama that he will be living the entire kaliyuga(the present modern day) waiting for the last Avatara of Lord Vishnu (krishna) to reincarnate. And to make it more miserable, he asks arjuna to remove the diamond from Ashwatthama's forehead. Since then Ashwattham's forehead would always be oozing blood and he would be in tremendous pain for rest of his life.
