Loved the file work! You had a lot of knife to work with but you still used files and sandpaper! Most people would take out the grinder and go too deep. Beautiful finished knife too!
Very impressed! Also, really enjoyed it when you got to the end and used it for chopping wood as I had been thinking “that looks like a stick knife...”-a knife for making sticks/kindling! I have one by Sheffield maker, Robert Sorby, and when I saw the triangular profile of the blade, I thought it looked like a Seax! I think that the dinks on the back of the blade was where it was hammered through logs, splitting, and the logs were maybe a bit thicker than it was designed for. Nice job!
The quality of your restorations have improved dramatically, nice work. I would buy that knife, but I cannot help but point out that you need to be more careful with these blades, 10:45 you could have slashed your hand open
I’m from Canada, if your are proposing to sell this knife to me, I meant by the comment”I would buy that” like if I saw it at a flea market or whatever, I would be all over it. But I don’t wanna go through the hastle of buying it from you and shipping and etc. It would depend on the price, I may be willing if it is like 15$ or less
beautiful work as usual, but sometimes I think you make it more work than it has to be you have a disc and belt sander, you could do more of the work with that. . The fact you could use a file on it makes me wonder about the heat treat, and how well it will hold up. The handle looks a little squared off and boxy for my taste, but I haven't held it it's hard to say from a vid how it would actually feel in the hand. Doesn't seem as sharp as it could be, this looks like a kitchen knife, it should be absolutely razor sharp in my opinion. What was the wood you used for the handles? Good looking stuff.
@@ScrewsAndTools what kind of nut tree? Here we have a lot of pecan, some walnut, such as that, but this wood is different than that. It has beautiful markings.
I was thinking it looked a lot like our Walnut we have here in the US. I have a big thick board that was probably milled 100 yrs ago. I wish you had it but it would cost a fortune to ship it. I also have some curly Maple that my grandfather cut off his farm 50 yrs ago and milled for me.... I really enjoy watching what you do. i sometimes tinker with axe’s and knife repairs myself...
That is a sax Israeli military t back blade it's designed with the flat top tang it's a good fighting knife and designed to go through shield with ease
what type of files did you use? just wondering if the seax was hardened or not cus usually using a file on a hardened blade will dull a file pretty quickly without much removal
@@ScrewsAndTools Really!?!? Flea Markets. "Yeah", but I've never saw a knife at any of my metal yards. It's usually just junk metals. Yep! Clearly at 2:30 someone has used this blade to baton firewood. But judging from the damage this metal wasn't a well tempered blade. Unless they used Thor's hammer to baton the firewood, or if it was Ironwood, or both!?! 🤣
It's difficult to see where the edge starts, and the blade ends. Also I get this was perhaps a quick refurbish job, but it would have been much more original if you would have created your own unique handle, and perhaps a sheath of some sort. Good work, but didn't go the extra mile on this piece. But that's just my opinion.
Doing good restorations. But at the end, while chopping things you are too careless. Please don't do that. I noticed that you are not taking any protection measures.
