Whitefish Montana's Big Mountain via the Danny On Trail

This hike takes us up the Danny On trail to the top of Big Mountain in Whitefish, Montana. Our route ended up at about 8.6 miles with 2,200 feet of elevation gain. You can also ride the ski lifts up and down to the Summit House for great views.

While the trailhead sits at the very popular Whitefish resort just west of Glacier National Park, this hike provides an opportunity for some spectacular 360 degree views along a much less traveled trail. It exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend. Thank you!

So fun watching your channel for trail previews. We wilderness camped out at Bowman last weekend. Haven't hit this one yet and I'm likely to do this a different way - gondola up, walk down! Looking forward to exploring this mountain not on a snowboard.

Always a chance for bear encounters in the Flathead Valley and surrounding areas. Be prepared. It’s a great hike - enjoy!
