Cheesecake Factory (walking distance from Disneyland) is a good place for a family meal. Huge menu, good prices. Outrageous portions, definitely share.
From Los Angeles here! I think it’s brilliant that you booked two separate places, that’s the right call so you can get in as much sleep as possible. Universal City walk and Downtown Disney are expensive but good for food&shopping, you can also get ubereats and food delivery apps (look for sign up specials) and utilize for the days you don’t want to leave the area or hotel. LAX: When flying in, many times you’ll circle over LA, from the beaches to the hills. You can actually see a lot of famous sights from the window so see if you can sit by the window for landing and take off. You can get some beautiful shots of the city depending on the weather and light. LAX can be disorienting, especially now as there is heavy construction deep in progress. Take it easy, and feel free to ask for help. Tighter security also than you’re probably used to. Personal recommendations (just in case, though I know you have a full schedule). 1. AVOID Hollywood walk of fame,. It can be quite scary and sad, (lots of random people in random dishelved costumes, homeless, & drug addicts, etc). Not worth seeing for the Chinese Gorman theater, imo. Maybe try to see recent videos to see if it’s still the same or if they agree. However if you do go, you can see a movie at Disney’s El Capitan theater (they can have a little pre show sometimes) and then quickly pop to the Chinese. But really don’t recommend the area (watch out for pick pockets). We locals avoid it at all costs. If you want to see the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory can be a nice family outing instead- educational and nice views. that’s what I recommend in place of the Hollywood walk of fame. 2. The beaches aren’t usually warm. Especially in the mornings and evenings. It might be still cool for you to see the Pacific Ocean though and some strong waves, so if that’s the case Santa Monica Pier is very popular for families. I recommend to go early to avoid crowds, you may even see sea lions and such hanging out on the boats below. Venice beach and other smaller beaches may have a lot of homeless encampments so you know 3. My personal recommendations for museums are always the Getty Museum or the Huntington Library. Getty museum is free, aside from parking and has gorgeous gorgeous architecture and art, probably closer to where you are staying for your universal bit. Huntington Library is expensive but many beautiful complex gardens, also you can see proper mansions in the neighborhood if you enjoy a little house oogling 👀 the library might be too much walking for your park rest days though 😅 4. As for food, of course try in n out. Inexpensive compared to others, You can google their special menus. Popular are animal style fries, my favorite is the neapolitan shake. Also recommend the local Mexican restaurants and trucks, many places are so delicious and authentic , and burritos are so massive they are shareable. Similarly, local Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese can also be so delicious and authentic. Great Boba! Lastly, Cheesecake Factory can be a fun American thing to do, can be expensive depending on the items, but big portions and lots to choose from. 5. As for universal and Disney, I think you got it there. Your research will go far here. I always enjoyed California adventure, but now it’s less gorgeous and unique and more like Orlando’s Hollywood Studios😢. Recommend watching videos of it previously or how it’s changed over the years, pretty interesting. I still enjoy going there, especially during peak hours (12-3) when the Disneyland side is madness. Sometimes you’re able to watch the lake show in DCA from the restaurant there, but not sure if they still allow that. It used to be the DCA was the only one to serve adult beverages, so that was fun, they even used to have a “winery” and wine tastings haha. Enjoy the history at Disneyland! So many classics, really take it in. You’ll find both parks to be much much smaller than Florida and depending on lines, you can actually get a lot in in your day. Your apps for all the parks will be your best friends still. Beignets are delicious. New Orleans square has some of the best foods in all the parks. Though, my family’s fav growing up was Hungry Bear Restaurant by Splash Mountain.

Hello! My family did a Disneyland/LA/Warner Bro trip late March/Early April last year. I’d reccomend wearing layers as midday you may be good with a t-shirt, but you’ll want a sweater/sweatshirt/hoodie/denim jacket when the sun goes down. Most people were wearing long pants. For the Warner Bros tour, be sure to mention your love of Gilmore Girls, as the tour guides will cater the tour based on interests! If you’re looking to take nice photos in front of the Hollywood Sign, look into Lake Hollywood Park. The view is great, and not crowded at all. Just be warned it’s quite a windy road to drive up to the park, but once there, there’s not much walking. Enjoy!
When we did universal in LA as a couple (appreciate may be different as a family) but we did single rider on most rides and we FLEW round the park. We saw it as we didn't speak on the rides anyway, so meant we got to go on them loads more!
The food was great at Mel’s drive in on sunset Boulevard, especially the breakfast! I went to LA in 2019 to see NKOTB at the Hollywood bowl, it was my 40th birthday present from my husband. 😊

We went back to LA last October and had the best time, I vlogged our whole trip if you wanted to come watch some Disney and universal vlogs. Also went to the beach Warner brothers studio tour which is amazing (you can also visit the Gilmore girls sets). Can’t wait to watch your vlogs xx
I went to LA in 2015 and did the Warner Brothers tour, I would recommend being really chatty to your tour guide and telling them that you love Gilmore girls, my family were the only people that interacted with our guide and we were able to see loads of sets that we wanted that they hadn’t planned to show us. I also loved Santa Monica, the pier was really cool and it was a nice place to walk around with lots of shops and restaurants, especially a road called third street promenade. We also did a mini bus tour around the Hollywood walk of fame and Beverly Hills which was really good, I don’t remember the name of the company but I think it was recommended by the hotel staff

We also enjoyed the LA Zoo, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach boardwalk, Griffith Park (view of the Hollywood sign), In N Out Burger, Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (amazing view, dress warm), Elmer's Diner in Palm Springs and the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica (outdoor shopping mall). You're going to have a blast!
Buzzing for the holiday plans! We did San Fran, LA and Vegas for our honeymoon in November and the weather is looking similar to what it is now. Layers were key! I wore a lot of dresses with a cardigan/denim jacket, tshirt and shorts/leggings, with a jumper in my bag to stick on at night when it was cold. You will love Disneyland, it was super busy but DCA in particular was just amazing. Warner Bros tour is fab too ❤️❤️
The Grove is nice for a little walk round, they have an old fashioned tram that goes round & Farmers Market is connected so good for snacks. Would definitely try & do a Hollywood homes tour with Star line if you can, you don’t see much of the houses but they usually go round Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Blvd, pass the viper room, troubadour etc - it’s a good way to see the main sights. If you’re going to the walk of fame, there is a good car park in the Hollywood & Highland centre which brings you right onto the main area where the Chinese & dolby theatres are. We’ve visited twice at Easter & both times the weather was lovely - shorts & vests all round, possibly a hoodie for early morning / late evening if a little chilly. If you are staying in Anaheim, there are some outlets (outlets at orange) same company as Orlando premium outlets. On one of our trips we were there Easter Sunday and some lovely members of one of the local churches were handing out Easter goody bags to the children 🥰
And one more thing! You may already know this but the DL fireworks are only on certain nights not every night like Orlando as the parks are in a built up residential area. Also because of that, they cancel them for any slight bit of weather so if you are thinking of leaving early before fireworks, it’s probably worth staying if you can just in case they aren’t on or cancelled when you go another day x
A tip Emma from when I went about 7 years ago, I think some of the Pretty Little Liars set is at the WB Tour so might be good to watch some before you go!
Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles!! - Anaheim is easy. Obviously In-n-out, audiences unlimited or on camera to get tix for a show. Drive through Laurel Canyon. Shorts and sweatshirt should be fine. Water is freezing all year long honestly.
If you do the Hollywood Hills tours you usually get given free tickets to Madame Tussaud’s. We almost didn’t go because we didn’t fancy it but it was absolutely hysterical, you can get dressed up with all the waxworks! If you manage to travel around, Carmel is stunningly beautiful, the beach is unbelievable xxx
I thought is was going to be Disneyland. You guys are going to have so much fun. It has been ages since I've been. I live in California but it's still an 8ish hour drive away. It's typically mild down there. Never really too cold. You'll see lots of people in shorts. 😂 You should be good with light layers. Some of the best food from around the world is in the LA area. There so much to do around there. Great beaches. Not sure if it's too late but you could look into getting in to a studio audience for a TV show taping. This one has been higgly piggly. It's not quite so straightforward! We have booked a package holiday but with two different stays. Taxi transfers then the tickets we have booked all ourself using Attraction Tickets. I am kicking myself as on Black Friday they had money off! So defo check that out.

Provost Park Pass and Fresh Baked and Five Fires are full of information regarding all the parks you mentioned. These are the ones that my husband I watch pretty much on a regular basis, but especially before making a trip. They all live near the parks so they visit frequently which gives them up-to-date information. Sorry, I can’t help you with the teen and tween flight suggestions.

I’ve been to LA twice in May and once in November and had all sorts of weather! Deffo gets chilly in the evenings, I found I was most comfortable in shorts and a jumper or light leggings and a tshirt (so basically either arms or legs covered 😂)

Long-haul flights (Especially in economy) are all about survival!!! Although I do dread the E-gates at border control and have a fear of looking so wrecked that I get sent back to the human border control instead 🤣A hair brush and a face wash go along way I also try to keep really hydrated and drink electrolytes - an absolute game changer in the way I feel when I land! You'll have a corker of a holiday regardless!

Hi Emma, We did Universal and DCA and Disneyland. We found at Universal head in and go start to the lower lot(down 100’s of escalators 🤣) Do the big rides down there first ie Jurassic world etc. Then do top lot afterwards ❤. Have the best time 💕
So excited to follow your travels to California! We went Oct 22 & loved it. Disneyland is so magical. We liked the food in golden horseshoe & jolly holiday (both counter service). Check if they do a scavenger hunt around downtown disney because they did a fun one for Halloween. Loved Indiana Jones ride & don't miss the cars ride radiator springs x

If you’re going to the walk of fame, there is a good car park in the Hollywood & Highland centre which brings you right onto the main area where the Chinese & dolby theatres are. We’ve visited twice at Easter & both times the weather was lovely - shorts & vests all round, possibly a hoodie for early morning / late evening if a little chilly. If you are staying in Anaheim, there are some outlets (outlets at orange) same company as Orlando premium outlets. On one of our trips we were there Easter Sunday and some lovely members of one of the local churches were handing out Easter goody bags to the children 🥰
Also, the blokes from stoke current blog series is universal & DL filmed in Feb this year x
And one more thing! You may already know this but the DL fireworks are only on certain nights not every night like Orlando as the parks are in a built up residential area. Also because of that, they cancel them for any slight bit of weather so if you are thinking of leaving early before fireworks, it’s probably worth staying if you can just in case they aren’t on or cancelled when you go another day x

Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles!! - Anaheim is easy. Obviously In-n-out, audiences unlimited or on camera to get tix for a show. Drive through Laurel Canyon. Shorts and sweatshirt should be fine. Water is freezing all year long honestly.
If you do the Hollywood Hills tours you usually get given free tickets to Madame Tussaud’s. We almost didn’t go because we didn’t fancy it but it was absolutely hysterical, you can get dressed up with all the waxworks!
If you manage to travel around, Carmel is stunningly beautiful, the beach is unbelievable xxx

I thought is was going to be Disneyland. You guys are going to have so much fun. It has been ages since I've been. I live in California but it's still an 8ish hour drive away.
It's typically mild down there. Never really too cold. You'll see lots of people in shorts. 😂 You should be good with light layers.
Some of the best food from around the world is in the LA area. There so much to do around there. Great beaches. Not sure if it's too late but you could look into getting in to a studio audience for a TV show taping.

This one has been higgly piggly. It's not quite so straightforward! We have booked a package holiday but with two different stays. Taxi transfers then the tickets we have booked all ourself using Attraction Tickets. I am kicking myself as on Black Friday they had money off! So defo check that out.

As for TH-camrs, we like to watch magic_journeys they show you all the current treats and eats plus do Vlogs. Provost Park Pass and Fresh Baked and Five Fires are full of information regarding all the parks you mentioned. These are the ones that my husband I watch pretty much on a regular basis, but especially before making a trip. They all live near the parks so they visit frequently which gives them up-to-date information.

I’ve been to LA twice in May and once in November and had all sorts of weather! Deffo gets chilly in the evenings, I found I was most comfortable in shorts and a jumper or light leggings and a tshirt (so basically either arms or legs covered 😂)

Long-haul flights (Especially in economy) are all about survival!!! Although I do dread the E-gates at border control and have a fear of looking so wrecked that I get sent back to the human border control instead 🤣A hair brush and a face wash go along way I also try to keep really hydrated and drink electrolytes - an absolute game changer in the way I feel when I land! You'll have a corker of a holiday regardless!

We did Universal and DCA and Disneyland. We found at Universal head in and go start to the lower lot(down 100’s of escalators 🤣) Do the big rides down there first ie Jurassic world etc. Then do top lot afterwards ❤. Have the best time 💕

So excited to follow your travels to California! We went Oct 22 & loved it. Disneyland is so magical. We liked the food in golden horseshoe & jolly holiday (both counter service). Check if they do a scavenger hunt around downtown disney because they did a fun one for Halloween. Loved Indiana Jones ride & don't miss the cars ride radiator springs x
