    Taro is a main staple here in Hawaii! It's called "Kalo" in Hawaiian. The Taro leaves are also eaten. Bountiful harvest! Thanks for sharing. Great video.

    Wow 1 plant turned into soo many new plants and a large harvest. I love God's multiplication. I am going to try this in a pot since I am in a colder climate. Another TH-camr got me fixated on growing edos 😄

      Yes ...The plant was in a different part of the yard, and it wasn't doing so well...It took off growing with gorgeous leaves after being moved.

      Hey Aaric ...Colocasia is edible in both the roots/ tuber and the leaves, whereas Alocasia is not.
      Colocasia has leaves with the tips pointing down and most Alocasia have leaves pointing up.

    You're right! You can eat the leaves and I think the stems too. I have to ask my friend how to cook that because I have some started growing in a pot that I planted last fall. I'll be planting more taro instead of potatoes because the leaves looks pretty in the front garden and nobody will know it's edible. I also planted ginger from the store and now I have ginger in 4 small pots every year. They multiply too! Thank you for educating your viewers! This video is very helpful. ❤️🙏

    Great harvest Dan. It's amazing how much you can get from only one root. Thanks for teaching us how to harvest these. It would be nice if you did a (how to) short or video telling how to identify edible vs inedible taro. 😁

      If it scratches your mouth, it must have been the yellow one. It did it to me, so I usually don't eat that one & I haven't seen it in a long time. The purple one is the one I find & What I eat quite Often 😊

      I've seen gardeners in Zone 7 grow it ..Try starting indoors during the winter then bring it outdoors late Spring

      You have the names right ..It goes by roughly about 20 different names depending on your location geographically 😃
      You can harvest it around 8-9 months from planting.

    What is the shelf life for taro? Any tips on storing/ preserving?

      Around 20 days on the countertop
      You may also harvest only what you need to consume and let the rest stay inground until you are ready to harvest again

    How do you separate the food from the head ??
    because when I reap the plant a cook the dasheen some part is soft and some part is hard.. the part that is hard seems it cannot be cooked..
    Do a video on how to cut or separate the dasheen from the leaf or sucker ?????
