I am SO interested in getting a bidet attachment! I also lived in Japan and LOVED the fancy toilets (I was also intrigued with the extreme dichotomy between private and public toilets, though, like Hey! Spa for your Bits or Trough! No in between!) Thank you for your thorough research! And I really loved your historical insights! Wonderful video!

After giving birth the nurses seriously encouraged us ro use the bidet every time we went to the bathroom. It would help us to keep clean and speed healing. That was in England, UK fifty years ago.

In the US they give you a squirt bottle to rinse with 🤦‍♀️ kid you not. That's what is taught in nursing school.

I am so glad you posted this. We had a bidet when we were stationed in Germany, and I miss it as well. I was looking at the sprayers, but the Tushy looks wonderful! The warm water option would be much nicer on a cold morning.

Very interesting video! My grandmother had a bidet and I used to wash my feet in it. A few years later I finally understood what the correct use was. Now I would like to have one because I have urinary incontinence. When I change myself I have to step into the shower to take a half body shower and that happens many times each the day.

Hi Amy, what an informative video, I have lived in Italy for over 30 years, here the Bidet is a part of daily life and personal hygiene. There is a Bidet in every bathroom of an apt. or Villa, and Italians really hate the fact that when they travel outside Italy 🇮🇹 there are no Bidets almost anywhere, for example even if it was invented in France 🇫🇷 the French stopped using them and installing them in their homes decades ago. I have learned to love mine, and there is also a vast range of hygiene products on the market to use when you cleanse yourself while using the Bidet. Another fact, here they make a numerous, beautiful range of designer bathroom fixtures and so the Bidet comes in every colour, shape or size. Just thought I'd share my experience since I've lived here for so long, idk how I ever did without before moving here..lol

Love your videos , I am from middle east and it's mandatory to wash yourself with water , thus we have small like shower head near every toilet wither at homes or in public restrooms , when middle eastern travel to US their first struggle is toilet experience .with this small hose you can direct it which ever way you want so the advantage is you can direct it in an angle if you are really concerned about UTI although it's not really an issue; a whole nation is using water hoses in their restrooms and we are fine. Using toilet paper only I feel we are just drying and patting what ever is on our skin instead of washing and cleaning it

Wow, it's so interesting to learn why Americans don't really use bidets. I've always wondered why, now I know the reason thanks to you. We use a bidet in Asia, we grew up washing (not wiping) after peeing or making a number 2. In the Philippines where I come from, we use "tabo," a dipper to scoop water for washing. When I moved to my new house, the first thing I did is to have a bidet installed in my toilet because for me it is a must.

I have seen bidets as a child and have installed them in homes during and after college to earn extra money as a handyman. I knew how to operate them from a technical standpoint but, one time, I was doing some home improvements at a house where I had recently installed a new bidet. I had to use the restroom but, after doing my number 2 business in the regular toilet nearby, I discovered the toilet paper by the regular toilet was out and there was no extra toilet paper to be found. Well...the bidet was there, I was there and simple logic suggested I use the bidet. I immediately sat on the bidet but, since I am a man, I had to manually grab my complete genitals to move forward and up and was able to successfully use the bidet. This was so easy to do and use. I was surprised at how clean I was. Bidets are super cool and especially those with the electric blowers with temperature control settings which seem like low-level hair dryers where they can never get so hot but just stay warm. Sometimes I wish I had a bidet in my house right next to me regular toilet just in case I run out of toilet paper.
Enjoyed your historical description and evolution of the bidet especially in American Puritan repressed culture. Knowledge is power.

    • @Spirtimtim
      @Spirtimtim 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe you should keep toilet paper for those very rare cases where there was no water ... you read the message backwards.
P.S. However, I don't deny that toilet paper is sometimes useful.

Hey I wanted to say thank you for this video. I am doing just the thing that you said you do, I am researching after being sent to possibly get this done. I was told that after being referred to a Neurosurgeon that this could be my first thing to try before jumping right to surgery. While driving for work one day (I provide therapy to patients with psychotic disorders) I was T-boned by someone who ran a stop sign. I have done physical therapy without relief and now I am finally getting a MRI after jumping through all the hoops to get it approved by my Worker's comp. I have been nervous about the possibility of the having lumbar injections. I have a fear of needles as well as a rear of big needles near my spinal cord. Your detailed and honest description has helped to ease those concerns quite a bit.
    Thanks,
    Christopher T.

Well, I have very little knowledge in this area. I have an iMac and the only video and editing software I have is the on-board iMovie app and PhotoBooth app that came pre-installed with the machine. They are very user friendly and self-explanatory for new users. Basically, if you self record, make sure you are in a well-lit environment (sunlight is fantastic most of the time) with as little ambient sound--traffic, television in the background, other people conversing, etc--as possible, and edit the video for sound and volume quality.
All of it is very easy to do with user-friendly software. More advanced editing software is available, but I have never used it, myself.

Thanks for the information. I have considered posting on TH-cam myself but I am not sure of my subject matter. After reaching this video checked out your channel and saw that you have a broad selection of subject matters. I thought of doing some how to in the computer and electronics. I would like to do one of the process of setting up a home theater and the issue that arose when I set up mine. My wife said that I should do videos of the places that we travel to and eat at. She had actually said something about a blog, but posting on TH-cam would be better. I have a great camera called Samsung Galaxy Camera 2. It is a camera/ Android device. the camera is 21 mp and does great photos and videos plus it has a large LCD with apps for editing and allows you to edit and send out by email or posting on TH-cam. I checked out your channel and I enjoyed seeing that you do just stick with one thing. I think that's what I want to try.

I always thought they were gross, and then I had my son. There was one in my hospital room, and after giving birth I was convinced it was the best thing ever. My son is 3.5, and I have been looking into different attachments, and trying to talk my husband into one ever since. Til then I'll keep using the peribottle the hospital sent home with me

  • @pathazanov6341

Thanks for such an excellent and informative talk. We are in the US. My husband installed a bidet as a gift to me, because he couldn't stand the the sight of that squirt bottle I kept beside the john. Now he loves it more than me. I couldn't understand my mother's offended reaction to the bidet, until you gave the history of Americans as a reason for her attitude. To her, the bidet is dirty and perverse. To us it is clean and natural. Thanks for a well done presentation.

My husband and I took a trip to Italy last fall and our hotel room had a bidet. My husband thought it was a foot bath and I had to explain to him what it was. First he was weirded out but after I convinced him to try it, he thought it was the greatest thing ever! We are American and as soon as we got back home from our trip, we bought a bidet attachment for our toilet. Our bathroom is too tiny for a separate full-sized bidet. We definitely miss it when we are away from home. I think American's who have never tried one and think they are weird/gross/whatever, need to get over that attitude. I think they are much more hygienic than only using toilet paper. Great video! Thank you for taking the time to share this information.

Quebec was part of a once super conservative religious culture, so the bidet is still not common although the French-Canadian people left the Church en mass in the 50's and 60's in what became known as the Quiet Revolution. I grew up in Quebec and came back to live in Quebec after a long stay in Europe and we still don't have bidets in public institutions nor in private homes.

At this point, I believe that North America has just been without them for so long that it's become a "this is the way we've always done it" thing with a little bit of "bidets are dirty" prejudice hanging in there from days of yore. Fortunately, the internet has changed the isolationist nature of cultures, and Americans and Canadians are seeing ads and videos and information pieces about bidet use. It's catching on.

Hi! I was just wondering if you could help me with something. I have two menstrual cups that I tried using but where the wrong size and firmness and didn't work for me. One size large purple Meluna with classic firmness, and one size medium cyan Meluna with soft firmness. I bought another cup and I love it, but now I don't know what to do with the other two cups. I've thought about selling them but I don't know where to sell them or how I would do that. Please help!!!

Go to the Facebook group Cup Love B/S/T.
Wash the cups with soap and warm water, boil them in water for 5 minutes, then photograph them. Repackage them in the pouches and whatever else that came with them you have. Post them on the site at a bit of a discount off new. They will sell.

In Italy, for example, every bathroom must have a bidet! For an Italian after being in the bathroom it is psychologically unbearable not to be cleaned and washed. It is a question of education and hygiene that prevails from the origin of the people who invented it. Towards the middle of the 18th century Maria Carolina of Habsburg-Lorraine, queen of Naples, demanded a bidet in her bedroom at the Royal Palace of Caserta. At the beginning of its diffusion, however, there were many prejudices (religious issues and fear of the use of water which in those days was very far from being clean and drinkable)
There are many documents regarding its invention in France and its diffusion) You will find a lot of documentation relating to the palace of Versailles and the use of the Bidet.
The fact remains that those who have used it appreciate the fact that they feel cleaner.

Every toilet or bidet has a water supply that can be adjusted to keep the pressure from getting too high at all.
You can use a bidet to clean your colon by relaxing. The waste should go into the toilet, then back onto the bidet for another rinse or for a final clean.
You dont need a dr ok to do it either. Use common sense. You get so clean with a bidet, you dont even need to dry off and you dont feel wet but a couple seconds.

It’s not a bidet, there is no room in the American bathroom to put a bidet. The device that goes on the toilet is called a washlet and it was invented in America. Other countries use bidets more cause they don’t have the vast resource of trees that North America does,America’s lack of use has nothing to do with prejudice hatred toward Europeans.

I don’t understand what cleaning oneself after using rest room have to do with purity, religious conviction …etc. Cleanliness, hygiene, prevention of disease, not to mention odor and keeping clean attire and avoidance of having to shower after every bowl discharge using water in a civilized and modern manner has been a given for a long time. Taking a shower or washing hands are not sin!

My first was an attachment to the toilet, my current one is installed on a toilet seat. It is simply a spray nozzle, no part of it ever actually touches you. I clean it when I clean my toilet. Many have a self-cleaning mode in which it flushes itself with water. Very sanitary.

Oh dear how you foreigners can make things complicated! No offence, though.
In Finland we commonly use a 50 year old invention by two women, called bideesuihku, i.e. Hand shower bidet , whick is operated in connection with the hanbasin faucet (connected to the water pipes). You open the faucet and press the button of the hand shower to get the water running through the shower head into the handbasin. Test the pressure and temperature, then release the button, take the shower head between your legs when you are sitting on the toilet. Direct the shower head in about 45 degrees angle towards your private parts so that the water flows downwards into the toilet, never upwards. Press button.

To me the reason for no bidets in the West is because one may get wet and would need to undress entirely before sitting down..... and that would prolong the process. As everything has to be quick in the West, going to the toilet is sped up by just using toilet paper....
It of course is not clean at all.... and there is nothing better than washing yourself.
If it needs to be a bidet with a water jet built inside it....?.... I think not.... a toilet and a handheld shower head on a long flexible hose is actually best.... you can adjust to warm water at the faucets and start have it run over your rear end from the moment you sit down..... no constipation.... and yes, it is so awkward to use toilet paper alone.... just look at these small sized pieces of paper.... how can this possibly work...?... there is nothing better than using warm water from a handheld shower head on a long flexible hose .... the same that is inside your shower stand or bathtub.... usually toilet seats are next to that... so .... try it out

    • @Spirtimtim

Obviously you don't know how to use it and maybe you've never seen one. When you only have to clean your butt, you sit with your back to the taps and your pants down, like when you are on the toilet. In addition to being clean, it is as fast and modern as you would like it to be. In Italy (are we westerners too?), When you only have to clean your butt, everyone, women and men, use it like this. What suffering abroad ...
