  • Gold Prospecting San Diego East County. Setting up and using the Keene puffer drywasher DW12V.
We are in the Imperial Desert close to the American Girl Mine. This is actually a little east of the San Diego County Line. This area has been great for dry washing and metal detecting as well. I have a shop "San Diego Metal Detector and Gold Prospecting Supply" , aka "Ground Balanced Extreme" if anyone is in the area stop in and say hi GROUNDBALANCED.COM

The processing is really easy. I just pan it out. Most of the time I just hand pan it out right then.. other times I save the concentrate and get a whole bunch and then I just use my Gold Magic Spiral wheel. Makes panning a lot of concentrate really easy. As far as cost, these units sell for around $700 in my shop. The battery is extra. Tailing piles from around old mines are a great place to look for gold.. the early miners were not to careful and sometimes left a lot of small gold. Good luck!

Hello and thanks for the question. The bellows drywasher from Keene is a little bigger than the blower Model 140 from Keene. I think I run more material through this one than the 140. It is a whole lot quieter and less dusty as well.
Ive run quite a few others as well. Ive used the large Keene 151 which is a great machine for running large amounts.
Ive also ran the Gold buddy, the Thompson, the Pro-Master as well. They all work good. My favorite are the puffer types however.

I went with Bob on his last outing to the Cargo Muchacho mountains and saw him working with this drywasher machine and it is amazing how easy is to get enough material to cleanout, I ended up with about 3 pounds of material and I didn't find any gold on the site but brought the remaining material to my home and got about half a gram of gold. If you happen to be in San Diego visit Bob's store in Jamul, he is a great guy and will be more than happy to answer your questions about gold prospecting.

clean up was great...we actually ran about 30 more buckets from along side this spot and had about a 1/2 gram total for the afternoon! the next day we worked the same spot and discovered a 2 gram nugget in the cleanout! First time weve ever had a nugget that big drywashing. I went back and detected and found three small nuggets totaling about a gram. I like this spot!

In addition we use the gas vac to suck up any loose dirt where we were digging. You can do pretty good collecting up the loose stuff in the nooks, crannies and crevices , especially if you are digging dwon to bedrock or working on a caliche layer. After we vac it up it gets run through the drywasher.

I dont think the puffer builds up static, but to be honest I've never really noticed it on the other machines either...
I think air flow and angle make a lot more difference on gold recovery. The recovery tray on the Keene puffer is actually isolated from ground , because it is make of non conductive material, so I guess it has as much chance as the 140 of building up a charge....

So how do you process the fine dirt that you dumped from the tray into the clean bucket? Do you do it yourself? Are there chemicals involved? Or do you take it to a person who can process the ore for you? How much does a dry wash machine like yours cost? Looks like a nice setup, and your video was very clear and easy to understand thanks to your concise explanations of what was going on. I have been exploring abandoned gold mines for a few years, but I'm thinking of starting to prospect.

If you mean where I am drywashing, this is in the Cargo Muchacho mountains just west of the Arizona state line. It is north of Interstate 8 and west of Ogilby road. If you are located near San Diego, stop by my shop and i can show you on the map some spots aroung there to go.

Gas powered vacuum is nothing more than a weed/yard blower mounted on top of a five gallon
bucket, with an intake port mounted on the side of the bucket. It draws air throught the bucket and the port....hence a vacuum hose is attached and walla..... you have a gas powered Vacuum

Hey there.. as far as concentrating vs classifying there is a huge diff. When you classify you are only reducing the size of the dirt you are working. When you concentrate with a drywasher, you are eliminating 90% of the material that doesn't have the gold. You only end up with the heavy richer material. So for 20 buckets of classifed material you might only end up with a couple of pounds of concentrate.. Which would you rather carry home. 20 buckets of dirt or two pounds of concentrate

That seems to be the general consensus. Is there any static electricity made with the bellows like they say there is with the gas blowers? From what I am reading the static helps hold the gold to the cloth. I like the idea of a quiet functioning drywasher, the only down fall is lugging around a heavy battery.

hi there, im a Mexicali boy, so cargo muchacho mountains are close to me, so i pick up my shovel, and clasiffied with a 1/2 inch screen, then in my house i made a window screen classifier ( mesh 20 i think ) and run the material, i've found some black sands, but not gold ( yet ) does the drywasher makes easier to bring home good concentrates ??? or a simple classifier work gives the same.
by the way, that's a nice place to spend time !!! just be sure to bring enough water

Hi Bob, how does the electric billows compare with the Keene leaf blower? Pros and cons for the gas blower versus what you show in your video. Have you used any of the other manufacturer drywashers out there?
