Now this is a piece of Music that I could hear several times after eachother first the original then the recut of Euterperolls on my player and then this one to hear the little differences between them and still love them all 👍🏻❣️

Niiiiccccceeeee.... Yes, the Dutch street 'orgels' have such a happy, clear and buoyant sound to them, also with rolls and tons and tons of all sorts of songs from way back when, to lots of pop hits and traditional Dutch folk songs, too ! They can be found in open-air markets every week - also, a mainstay on busy city streets, such as in Amsterdam - and, also in the small villages, like Zaltbommel - every Saturday rolling through the cobblestone streets amongst the cozy, little Dutch houses - piping and tooting away with their merry sounds, too !! They add such a wonderful, positive energy to wherever they pop up... and this player piano is a beautiful example of their cultural richness and expertise in continuing to bring this music to the people and keep the traditions alive and pumping !!! They're decorated sooooooo authentically with their colours and figures, etc... really, such a warm and welcoming feeling of celebration, making the days sunny and bright - smiles and happy tunes to all :))
Thank you for your comment. The Dutch culture you described sounds like a lot of fun with richness and musical appreciation. While the roll itself was made in the Netherlands, this piano was made in Chicago and has been in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States for over 100 years, where it still remains to this day. TH-cam provides this great platform to share music like this on a worldwide basis.
The "Holy Grail" of rolls. Atlas rolls for sure. I know this to be a very sought-after roll. I saw it for sale online a few years back (could have been 6 months with my memory) but sadly, it went for only about $60. I didn't even bid because I figured it'd be well over $100. Would I take an original? Absolutely. Will I go out of my way to get one.... not so much. Enough of me...... this old piano sounds wonderful playing it! And she's topless again!
Considering how many views this video is getting I'll put it out here right now that I'm making punch for punch duplicates of this roll now so if anyone wants a copy for an actually palatable price of 15 dollars not 75 then drop me an email!
In fairness and clarity to my purchase, your comment gives me an opportunity to break down the purchase in detail. The specialized roll, made only by request, is $40 itself. It is punched on a very durable acid-free and almost mylar type paper of a good weight. The roll comes with a custom color- matching side-hinge type box made of a decorative paper-wrapped heavy chipboard (much like an AMPICO box). Both roll and box of course have a nice label as well. The remaining monies are taxes and international shipping charges from the Netherlands to the United States. I've spent $40 at a nice restaurant, and that was gone by the next day. This roll I'll have for years! But in support of your rolls, you're offering a very good and long out of production roll in America at a much lower price point with an appropriate appeal and service. I'm sure the roll will be worth collecting for sure!
@@SevenPlus65 Yeah Euterpe does have some material advantages but for me no amount of material quality will ever warrant cutting a roll from a midi file that wasn't authorized for recutting nor was it ready for recutting of course. So that's for any prospective buyers to keep in mind ;) Oh also I'm going to cut your new copy soon, standby!
@PiotrBarcz That'll be great 👍 I need to get materials sent to you as well. I've got a reposting of this roll, with a much better quality, scheduled for New Years Day. It would be nice to post your cut a few days later. It would provide a very nice side-to-side comparison for viewers, (consumers) and they'll have the ability to choose what roll they'd prefer buying - Yours or the Euterpe roll.
This is an excellent, excellent arrangement. I do not even like the song - I find it slow moving melodically and harmonically, but Phil Lynch (not a familiar name to me) does such a good job that he makes me enjoy it. Quite a bit :) Thanks for putting this out here!
There's just something "cool" about being able to watch the bass hammers playing those scales that are plentiful and picking up the 1 & 3 quarter notes during syncopated areas in this version.
is phil lynch victor arden? sounds like it to me. in any case, so glad this has been re-released. thanks! i have an original, and have posted it on our facebook group.
Hello. Hang on to that original roll! They are hard to find. There was a MIDI file created of this song sometime ago. A company in the Netherlands picked it up, they have a roll punch machine and can use the file to make these rolls special order. That is where this roll came from. They are not being reissued by anyone I know of. As for the Victor Arden (John Lewis Fuiks) question, I don't honestly know if that was a pseudonyms for Arden. Arden worked for the American Piano company which later merged with Aeolian and of course, worked for QRS. I'm not aware if he ever produced or arranged for Atlas. Interestingly, I have recently obtained a Phil Lynch roll, Piccolo Pete. I'll be posting it soon. It, too, is Atlas. Thanks
@@SevenPlus65 I recently made recuts (too narrow but will correct that) of an actual roll master. The one used here was my scan (looking back now I should've expected someone to make a recut from something so ghastly inaccurate) but now I have a punch for punch reconstruction of the original roll. In fact, I'm the first to make a 100 percent accurate (excluding the width from my perforator calibration error) recut of the roll in history I think xD
@PiotrBarcz What was it that you had done to the scan that made it so "ghastly inaccurate "?.... and does that mean what I've posted here is considered "ghastly inaccurate"? And if so, kindly point at what point(s) of the roll have these flaws. I'd be really interested to research that!
@@SevenPlus65 Alright let give you a full run down xD 1. The roll was scanned from video (this process is ONLY good for one thing: if you can't find the scan absolutely anywhere else, the results are a jittery mess, have missing notes, need to be worked on for hours sometimes) 2. I did a tempo syncing process so that I could quantize the notes (snapping them to the nearest 8th note tick or whatever on the musical tempo grid). This may have evened out the note starts which were rough but it DIDN'T make the notes the correct length to be accurate to the original roll. (that would've taken months of editing by midi tick numbers to get chords in the accompaniment to be 2 punch rows long and other stuff like that) 3. There are still missing notes despite what I thought was a rather complete reconstruction. Minor things of course but still unacceptable in the eyes of someone who strives to make *perfect* reproductions. 4. Euterpe cut the roll a halfstep sharp cutting off one of the top notes on the roll (this might sound like a small issue but believe me, this is something that will totally enrage people who know the original roll well). Not to mention there was one note in the treble already missing that wouldn't even fit on the scale. 5. And this is more of a moral thing: I didn't authorize use of the file, I also didn't intend for it to be recut because of the stated inaccuracies, I definitely did not want to see the midi file cut and then the roll overpriced massively, transposed up a half step by some error I can't fathom not being fixed sooner, and then not seeing a cent of the roll sales (Yes, I did receive 25 dollars as a gratuity donation of sorts but I wouldn't have ever allowed the midi to be punched in the first place). Probably sounds like I'm nitpicking but frankly I'll have this hanging over my head for years to come knowing that I failed to preserve the integrity of quality that I hold in such high standards. Anyhow, there you have it. "Ghastly inaccurate" might be an overstatement but to me it isn't.
Is it just me or is the paper purple? (yeah I wrote this before I read the description haha!) I have to get to work making a presentable piano roll master of this roll, then we'll be able to hear what Phil's work really sounds like :D I wonder if there are any more Atlas rolls arranged by him?
I'm sure many people would appreciate the opportunity to get one of those Happy Days recuts! Yes! Phil Lynch also arranged Piccolo Pete on Atlas roll 3900.
