It does not start at 1% of its capacity. The xv18 can go as low as 35% of its capacity according to Trane literature.

I’m a homeowner and have had the Xv18 going on 3 weeks and I’ve read the 35% output in the literature as well but my compressor speed I’ve noted in real time as low as 22%. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We have had nothing but trouble with our new 3 1/2 Ton TRANE Heat Pump! It is so bad that we have to make monthly repair installments each month to the local dealer in Smithfield, Va. Fan on compressor went out within 24 hrs. then thermo expansion valve within first year, 3-4 service calls so far this year 2014. It is the lemon of all lemons!

Hi Lynn, we are an American Standard dealer in Chas. SC. If you have had a TXV valve go bad, both Trane and A/S have a product warning. Simply put I can look your model number in and see if yours is one of the many they have listed. Once we determine if yours is one of them, I can tell your dealer what should be done according to the manufacture. Regards, Charles

I think the Consumers Digest Best Buy awards and the fact that Maytag has the BEST warranty in the business coupled with the MOST efficient conventional ducted system on the planet speaks for itself. Sure, Nordyne does make mobile home units along with several other manufactures, but that only proves even more that the equipment has to be reliable, because you know the torture chambers that mobile home are for HVAC. Just saying....... Nothing against Trane or any others, but Maytag IS tops.

+Glen W. Ford can put any brand in mobile homes thats true now if its actually supposed to be put in such a high static application is a totally different thing. Check the installers guide for the actual static pressure the blower is rated for vs your ductwork.

Ted, have you had any issues with the XL850 thermostats? I’ve had my system going on 3 weeks and my hvac company is now going to replace my thermostat. It’s the craziest thing, it is not measuring the indoor temperature accurately or consistently. It also will show the indoor temperature INCREASING when the AC comes on, which in turn modulates the compressor speed higher and higher. For instance, last night it was down in the 60s in my area. I had it set at 75. I was a bit warm. The house temp was reading 75. I lowered the thermostat to 74. Ok it comes on at 43%. Within a couple minutes, the temperature of my house as measured starts rising and reads up to 77 degrees within less than 10 minutes of the AC running and had the compressor modulated up to 92%. Meanwhile my independent “control” temp monitor was reading 74 for my indoor temp. I turned the unit from the set 74 back to 75, it started modulating back down and eventually read the temp as 75 and cycled off. It’s really WACKY.

At my old house I had an XL16i and XV95. It had dual fuel capability electric heat pump with gas backup for when it was under 35 degrees (Indiana). At my new house I have 2 older trane systems. I am wanting to upgrade them and want to know if the dual fuel is the way to go?
