      Yeah they really were on a roll back then. Those 3 titles felt like instant classics to me from the moment they released. Something special and distinctively Platinum about them. Was fully expecting that kind of output to be the future going forward. Love TF Devastation & their Nier Automata colab too. ✌

      @@florida_sucks Oh no problem, none taken. Yeah I barely use slomo when doing tactical challenge speedruns so those might be more up your alley. But using slomo for freestyling adds a good layer of depth and it has some tactical advantages. ✌

    The gameplay and freedom of this game in intensity and bullitt time slide/fu or whatnot has NO equal...soo many people slept on this...thats why it never got a sequel despite fan demand.

    Took me a while to get around to seeing this, but this is hands down your best compilation yet! The counter finisher on the Romanov, the slo-mo slide around the Crystal Viper, "breakdancing" on the Bogey twins... GAH! It's all so good and the purest definition of style!
    I also never knew that you could boost kick off the Unknown's rubble and the Buzzard's arms without overheating. Every time I feel like I've seen everything there is to see in this game I get blindsided by something new, lol.

      There's a time for everything ! Appreciate your thoughts and opinion man.
      Yeah most of these clips are probably among the coolest things I managed to pull off.
      I also spent some time trying to make the music sync up with certain transitions.
      You can melee the Unknown without overheating as long as you don't hit it's core.
      It breaks down after a number of hits, depending on which attacks are used,
      but the buzzsaw melee always exposes the core.
      On the topic of learning new things, I recently found out about the robot rhinoceros beetle easter egg.
      Never knew that was a thing.

      @@ZikosRealm Hmm... Tbh I didn't really notice any of the music syncs that you're talking about. A lot of Vanquish's music is intentionally repetitive and lacking in notable tempo changes due to it being composed to always sound good when layered over fast paced battles. That's not a bad thing of course, it just makes syncs a lot less noticeable.
      Also, I'll have to keep that in mind about the Buzzsaw Gun. It's always a weapon that I find myself neglecting even though I know it's pretty good. 😅
      And what's this about a robot rhinoceros beetle? This is my first time ever hearing about it.

      @@theguywithnoaccount I just fiddled around a bit to make some of the clips start when a new verse begins or more musical elements are added. Also the QTE with Viper and the final rocket hit on the Bogey bro's line up with breaks in the music.
      Yeah about that beetle. I read about that easter egg on the old Vanquish blog from PlatinumGames.
      In short, lead animator Eijiro Nishimura has strong feelings about beetles and started hiding these in games.
      Now he didn't work on Vanquish but the people at P* apparently continued this tradition throughout their games.

      @@ZikosRealm Watching it back again I was definitely able to spot the one on the Viper QTE. I like how the music ramps up at the start of the clip at 2:55 too.
      I also looked into the beetle thing some more, and it's so fascinating! To think that it goes all the way back to Resi 4 and God Hand. I've never seen such a subtle and long-lasting easter egg quite like it before. Makes we wonder how many other undiscovered beetles are lurking in Platinum's games. Now I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for one in Bayo 3, hah!

    I have 110 hours on the game, there’s really nothing like it hahah I keep replaying the campaign.
    My current goal is beating tactical challenge 6 and eventually God Hard mode, it’s cool seeing videos like yours of people playing the game like crazy because I keep learning more and it helps

    Stylish as always :) I thought that parrying the Romanov with the shotgun melee attack in the beginning was a really nice touch. One thing that I do to make the buzzard melee without overheating more consistent is I boost kick from the side, but even then the buzzard can turn, or sometimes I have to back up to reset my distance not to target the main body, here's from when I do it in RTA th-cam.com/video/6InoRQNNyeM/w-d-xo.html

      That's the Rocket Launcher's melee attack. You can melee the Unknown enemy without overheating as long as you don't hit it's red core. Doesn't do any damage but it does help breaking down the body to expose the core.

    How are you kicking and doing damage but not going into suit recharge? I thought one melee attack automatically depletes your bar?

      We can launch Romanov type enemies without overheating the suit with the HMG's neutral backflip when done from a specific distance, just outside their hurtbox. Also works against Romanov's big OHKO missile and against the Unknown's core. Buzzard's hands can also be melee'd without overheating, and we can melee Unknown's body as long as we don't connect with it's red core. And the Disk launcher melee only uses ammo instead of overheating the suit. There's a tricks & techniques tutorial on my channel if you're interested in learning more.

      Well... The game was a flop upon release. Plus director of this game (shinji mikami) no longer work with platinum game.
      Plus.. Platinum don't make same level of cool games anymore like they used to in late 2000s to early 2010s
      Sure nier automata, astral chain & bayo 3 are far from bad but they Don't have that much depth & complexity in them

      @@riazzking3592 It gets overlooked sometimes but Mikami played a critical role during development for sure.
      Gaming outlets dropped high ratings at the time but marketing was pretty bare bones.
      The challenge demo contest in Japan helped pulling in some of the action crowd
      but I think the cover shooter narrative we had over here didn't help
      drawing in the wider target audience it could've had upon release.

      The Disk Launcher melee only uses ammo. We can launch Romanov type enemies without overheating with Heavy Machine Gun & Anti Armor pistol, with the neutral backflip melee, by whiffing from a specific distance.
      Also works against Romanov OHKO missiles and Bogey cluster grenades.
      We can also melee Buzzard's hands without overheating. And we can Melee Unknown's body as long as we don't connect with the red core.
      There's a Vanquish tricks and techniques tutorial on my channel if you're interested in learning more.

      @@giac541 No problem. In Vanquish you can't really juggle enemies and keep them in the air like in DMC. There are launch attacks like the HMG's melee (backflip) and the Rocket Launcher melee (uppercut). There's a little trick with the HMG backflip that allows you to launch some enemy types in the air repeatedly, without overheating, but there is no way to extend the time that they are airborne.       @@giac541In DMC, combo's are a core gameplay element that you automatically to engage with. Gameplay in Vanquish is centered around playing fast and efficiently. Combo potential exists because of all the animation cancels, instant weapon swapping, depth in movement, slowmotion, and variety of melee attacks. it won't take long before you're doing cool tricks, stunlocking enemies and chaining attacks but going for long combo's isn't something new players should be focussing on.✌

    i just buy this game for 4 bucks in xbox today, i remember seeing this game as a kid and looked cool but didnt have a "modern"gaming console, now as and adult this feels like a fever dream, this fucking game has Armored core, touhou bullets flying everywere, agressive and relentless enemies like ninja gaiden 2 , enemies with great behaviors like halo, gears of war cover system, you can fucking slide 100km per hour and slow time, and you can beat the shit of the robots with kicks and fists, even enemies can do combos and destroy you in a blink of an eye, and it feels hard why there are no more games like this ?🕷👿👌

But the approach to the learning curve remains the same. Progress will come naturally as long as you're having fun,gradually learn and incorporate new tech over time, and experiment with random stuff and different playstyles.✌

    I know the Saw won't drain your energy bar for melee but some hits didn't use energy anyway?
    The LMG flip kick at the start didn't, is that due to it not physically connecting to the target and is just outside range to count?
    Also at 0:45 I believe you do an uppercut and doent drain? Not connecting I imagine.
    I try to pull off stuff like this and it's satisfying as hell, but always find my energy drains so damn quick.
    I remember a video where if you slide and dodge quickly you get more distance, slightly I frames and doesn't drain energy and still I mess up.
    Probably need more practise.
    Any chance to get a tutorial for more tips or gameplay improvements that you'd recommend?

      Heey Skull. You're right about the flip kick. There is a sweet spot where you can launch the Romanov type robots and destroy incoming missiles without overheating. This also works against that 1 hit K.O missile.
      The Unknown boss can be melee'd without overheating as long as you don't hit it's red core. It doesn't do any damage but helps in breaking down it's body to expose the core. You can also melee the hands from the Buzzard without overheating. Other then that and the Buzzsaw, you can only melee without overheating when the limiters are released during the final phase of the final Bogey boss fight.
      Yeah you're right, talking about ''boost dodge'' or ''boost roll''. It's a lot safer then a normal roll, covers more distance, and combines the i frames from slide startup and roll start up if you time it right. It becomes second nature and It's pretty much a nessecity to learn for playing more agressively. I know speedrunner Nordanix has a tutorial on his channel for this and a lot more advanced Vanquish techniques. Zaarock also has a video called ''Vanquish Advanced technique tutorial''.
      There's also the ''drift slide'' which drains less energy and is a lot faster then a normal slide. To do this, start a diagonal slide (like forward & right plus slide) , let it start, and then move and hold the stick in the forward direction.

    Are you using ARS trainer? Because your ARS suit isn't overheating whenever you punch/melee enemies

      I play on PS4 so I'm not using any mods. There are a couple of ways to use melee without overheating. You can melee the Buzzard's hands , and the Unknown's body as long as you don't hit it's red core. The Disk Launcher melee uses ammo instead of draining the AR bar. You can also launch Romanov type enemies with the HMG's standing backflip melee without overheating if you use proper spacing. (approx 1.5 boost roll distance away from the enemy, at the edge of where the hitbox connects) You can also destroy incoming missiles with this technique. And finally, you're able to freely use melee when the limiters are released, after destroying one of the Bogey's during the final boss fight.

      @@NuclearSorrow Yeah sorry it's the disk launcher.😆 Yes those are the 3 Romanov types and the backflip trick works on all of them. Takes a bit of practice to find the correct range but it works consistently. No problem and let me know if you have any questions. ✌

    I think it was back in 2012 or 2013 when VanQuish was free on PlayStation Plus for the PS3. I downloaded the game and then I played it. It's actually pretty damn good. Definitely screams Platinum.

    This is so freaking cool and impressive, loving it. This game sometimes feels like a fightinggame. Im making a video about Vanquish too, about why its so good. May i ask you why do you like this game so much and whats in your oppinion the best part of it? I would love to hear your oppinion after 800 hours play time.

      Vanquish is pretty accesible and a blast to play through casually but gets very rewarding if you try to master all of it's intricacies and mechanics.
      It's an over the top visual spectacle with vibrant colors and a lot of particle effects and explosions. Sound effects are visceral and intense and the music is upbeat and perfectly fits the setting and gameplay. Combine all that with the speed you're able to achieve by boosting around the playground and you have the perfect recipe to get your adrenaline pumping.
      Gameplay is flashy, fun and extremely polished close to the point of perfection.
      The tutorial only covers some basic mechanics but the community discovered many advanced techniques.
      Freestyle and combo potential exists because of animation cancels, instant weapon switching,
      the depth in movement, variety of melee attacks, the slowmotion mechanic,and the freedom to combine them all.
      Definitely still can't find that amount of depth in any other game with a shooter at it's core,
      which is why Vanquish is one of those rare genre defining games in my opinion.
      The original release is over a decade old but still feels like one of the most futuristic games out there.
      I like that it's a short arcade style game which can be completed in a few hours but replayability is high
      because sure, it can be played as a simple cover based shooter with a slow motion button but it's so much more then that.
      There are leaderboards and the mechanics perfectly facilitate playstyles like high score runs, speedrunning and freestyling, all of which can be equally enjoyable in this game if you're into that kind of stuff.
      There's also endgame content for experienced players in the form of GodHard difficuly and Tactical Challenges.
      I did a bit of everything , and I think all those elements combined are the reason why I've been able to play Vanquish for this long and still have fun. Just fooling around is a lot of fun, watching chaos go on in slomo is fun, it can get absurd at times, and even dying in cool ways can be rewarding. I don't play a lot of shooters and it's rare I play a game for this amount of time.

      Yes ill gonna upload it to my channel. I think it will take me about 4 weeks to finish it. If you have nothing against it, ill show your comment in the video, because I find it really interesting to show how someone who knows the game much, much better than me thinks about it.
      I played Vanquish at release, than some years after that and at pc release, but at a casual level and love it to death. Its so underrated and was ahead of its time. Its so cool you can cancel animations and can Do so much stuff, but like I said im just a casual enjoyer😃
      Can I show 10 seconds or so of one of your combos and even if not just recommed your channel? Because like I said before, this combos are awesome and I dont think many people who know this game just a little bit know that you can do something like this.

      You can launch Romanov's with the HMG's melee backflip (Aim + melee or melee + aim while standing still), but there is a sweetspot at a range where the hitbox connects but the suit doesn't overheat.

      @@pogoacct8611 Think It's at about a boost roll and a half away from the enemy. The setup I like use is to slide towards them, keep a bit of distance and then boost roll backwards into that backflip. Just takes some more practice man. I got it down pretty consistently after a while. I launch them in each of my combo video's, you can check them out and compare to get a better feeling for that sweetspot. ✌

      It's story related yeah. The limiters on the suit are released after taking down one of the bogey's in the final level.

      Neutral backflip is done with the Heavy Machine Gun's melee. It's mostly used as an additional way to trigger slowmotion without making contact with an enemy.

    Great flow, but incorporate the shotgun and you'll have faster results. The shotgun only takes a maximum of 1.2 seconds to initiate after a focus dive. However, this video showcases more of a ranged offensive rather than a speedster playthrough, which was awesomely executed! ^^

      Same. And i thought it sucked (like all cover-based shooters).
      I think Vanquish's biggest flaw is that it doesn't adaquately sell itself well. It is not until you see videos like this (or persevere with mutiple playthroughs) that you realise that the game is in fact an _ANTI-cover_ shooter. In that respect it was way ahead of its time, since cover shooters were nowhere near as abundant at the time of its release as they were later (maybe only a couple of Gears of War games and the first Unchartered game).
      The scoring system should have been graded, and should have had clear points deduction for using cover, so as to teach the player that alternatives exist.

      for pulling off fancy moves.😄 Agree that the scoring system is very bare bones.
      Also having melee kill , multi kill , slomo bonusses , etcetera, on top existing ones would've added a lot more depth and replayability to highscore runs.
      Yeah cover useage percentage is only hinted at at the end of chapter or campaign runs
      but it's just a novelty outside of self-imposed challenges.
      A broader marketing campaign and a more elaborate tutorial definitely would've been welcomed.
      But players discovering new tech and little tricks overtime through oldschool community effort
      and experimentation can also add to the charm.
      Even a small new discovery can entice some fans to boot up the game again.
      You can argue having to go out of your way and think outside the box
      creates even more involvement from players who stick around,
      making it more rewarding in it's own right.
      I already had a blast playing Vanquish on a more casual level but discovering new tech and constantly evolving my gameplay overtime gave me reasons to come back and get sucked in even more haha.

      You don't need to push the skill ceiling much for doing great in highscore runs.
      It basically boils down to headshot , weakspot, some dismemberment, and static time bonusses.
      Should've incorporated more for melee kills, multi kills, slomo kills, etcetera.
      Speedrunning the tactical challenges on the other hand forces players to push a lot more limits for efficient setups, minimal AR usage and optimal stamina management. Still doesn't require using every little trick in the book but the same is true for doing good in DMC.

      The Disk Launcher melee only uses ammo instead of AR bar, Buzzard can be freely melee'd against its hands, and Romanov type enemies can be launched by whiffing the HMG neutral backflip melee at specific distances. The neutral backflip whiff technique also works against Romanov's big OHKO missile, Bogey Cluster grenades, and the Unknown boss enemy as long as you only connect with it's core.

    Wow... i cant believe im saying this, but i was actually good at a game like this.
    I did a lot of this stuff back in the day on xbox 360. I played this game so much, and i cant believe it. I just thought it was random cool shit. Not high level 🤣

    combine this with assassin creed parkour, with rpg elements, perk system similar to path of exile, with witcher style finishers, allow for block counters, remorph it into a dark fantasy setting, based almost to that of max payne story, add witty one liners, have a part system based from dragon age origins, combos from mass effect andromeda, graphics and ray tracing from metro exodus, the ability to create your character from a variety of limber races and a archetype to compliment the race such as a dwarven artificer for example. lastly but not least, multiple endings based on dialogue selection.

    i played Vanquish Aka Devil may Gears of war and i really enjoyed but the overheating is really breaks the pace
    As far as i see they wanted to encourage aggressive and stylish playstyle (like ultrakill)
    1) I think Overheating gauge completely depending after successful melee strike would be good addition (can be explained by heatsinks on fists transferring quickly heat) the more heat transferred the worse debuffs for enemy
    2) After each boss the overheat gauge increasing letting you do more cool stuff
    3) removing unknown's instakill attack (or make it parryable)

      Good to hear you had fun with the game! Yeah more options to melee without overheating would be fun, but I also like how playing with it's current restrictions forces me to strategize and play more methodically. We can do a lot of crazy stuff without breaking the flow of the game
      but it requires practice, experience and knowledge of all the tricks in the book. Playing fast and efficiently is definitely what to strive for at higher levels of play.
      It's possible to parry the Unknown's grab attack with the Shotgun melee.
      A fully charged one breaks it down instantly, a regular one just counts as a hit against the armor but stuns it for a bit.
      Disk Launcher melee also breaks Unknown down in one hit and doesn't overheat the suit.👍

      ​Yeah no restrictions would break the game in it's current state or turn it into something else entirely. Lots of tech, strategy, planning and gunplay would fly out the window in favour of spamming melee.
      I can see how maybe having melee overheat seperately from the rest of the suit could work but I think it's versatile enough as it is. Plenty of opportunity to use melee efficiently when you learn the ropes. @@BamOuttaDaBayouDPOY

      @@ZikosRealm That's understandable. With the time you put into mastering the mechanics of Raiden in that game, Im sure it would be many hours to get that kind of fluidity with a new character. The hardest part was re-learning the basic controls after 9 years since the DLC assumes you know the basics. I ended up completing both DLC's and strangely the final boss was pretty easy with all the items I had and I ended up not dying. Metal Gear Ray was the boss that took me the longest at 35 minutes. I was still getting a feel for the basics again. Made me want to try the main game again. Revengeance is the hardest mode right? is it MUCH harder than normal? I saw theres a code that would let me jump right into the hardest mode if I want to punish myself. There was also a second DLC, Blade Wolf. It was decent but more stealth focused. The blade wolf doesnt seem as good at combat. Will always be checking your channel periodically to see what kind of crazy shit you put together. Really appreciate that kind of gameplay.

      @@theconsolekiller7113 Revengeance is the highest difficulty but Very Hard is actually the hardest one. Perfect parry damage is increased massively on Revengeance so you can take out enemies and bosses really fast. You don't have that advantage on Very Hard. Yeah you'll def want to unlock ''infinity wig B'' and the weapons and upgrades before tackling the higher difficulties for the first time. Take care man !

      @bamouttadabayou1165 Graphics bugs. Input bugs. In general the application was just terribly ported. As if the publisher fed the play station executable into a one size fits all pc port service and didn't bother to do any QA afterwards. I bought it and had to refund the purchase because it was downright unplayable.
