Just be careful with doing wheelies in 2nd. All years of the 660 are infamous for blowing up 2nd because of all the torque. Yamaha fixed the problem with the newer 700s though. With all the torque, I have an 03 660 and my friend has a 09 700, and even he said he likes the 660 better because it feels like it has more torque.
I agree with your friend I owned a raptor700 but had to sell do to some financial problems. Anyways I bought a raptor 660 its a 2003 and the thing will not keep the front tires on the ground until about 4th gear lol. Mind you I did a gytr race slip on, dyno jet stage 2 carb kit and pro designs air filter mod. The thing flies!
My brother has one just like yours, I got to drive it around all last week it gets an outragous amount of attention where I live. I love the bike though really might sell my warrior and pic me one up they are just so comfortable and easy to ride.
i just bought my 2005 yamaha raptor 660r and it runs great except it idles kinda high sometimes when i hold the clutch in and when i go to slow down. i just purchased a new air box because on the back of mine closest to the muffler it got hot and bent to where the lid leaves a gap between it and the box. is this my problem or is it somthing else? any reply would be great
ive got a piped 99 banshee thats slightly beat but runs strong and looks good. many aftermarket parts. Im 16 and i wont ba able to get the top end rebuilt. would a okay trade be for an 03 660 with a full exaust system jet kits and a fresh top end oversize radiator and extended rear axle? i payed $1500 for the shee with 6 sets of tires and a few buckets of parts. it would all go with it. what are your thoughts?
MAKE YOUR SOUND WORK I HAD MY SPEAKERS ALL THE WAY UP AND I STILL COULDNT HEAR YOU
I really liked my warrior too. The warrior and raptor are awesome machines. I wish we could make them street legal in the USA!
The choking up in reverse is the rev limiter. You can look up how to disable them. Pretty easy.

I wheelie my 03 in every gear all day long not a problem
Wrong. ‘01 models had a weak 2nd gear. ‘02 yamaha replaced it with a dog gear. The more you know 🌈
