Its weird I used to work for doordash as well and from what I remember they put stickers on the lids and bags so that you can see if they were opened or not. Cant imagine why they'd stop doing that
I fully agree that it doesn't look like it just fell over, the angle definitely looks like a sip was taken. As someone with a shit immune system it immediately made me worry that the person might have a cold, virus, or other transferable illness. I don't think you're in the wrong at all. ESPECIALLY when he was trying to get you to give him more of tip and could easily be caught in the lie of "more traffic" and "i already picked up your order"
Where I live we a have Wolt which is basically like door dash, the difference is the delivery guy have no idea how much he got tipped until 1 hour after the food arrived and even then he can't tell who tipped him. And the only way for him to contact the customer is trough a secure line where he can only call and it's all recorded
Funny thing is, Wolt was bought by Doordash about a year ago, but they still have the 2 services separated. Here in Japan, there was a small moment in time in which both Doordash and Wolt existed at the same time, but after Doordash acquisition of Wolt, they decided to retire Doordash and just continue as Wolt.
As a Dasher, that drink was 100% sipped out of. I've had my fair share of frappe orders, and some of them spill. Accidents happen, and you can't prevent every single accident. That was no accident. The lid would also be covered in the drink, and it could've even been on the outside of the cup. That was wayyyy too clean for a spill or a tip-over.
Not happy with the tip then don't take the delivery on. edit: Really appreciate that you went through with the report, there are a lot of other drivers that snack on the food had it happen enough that I never order from any doordash type site.

Plus, driving to your house and then driving back into the city to go pick up more food would take more of their time and money. Honestly, I just pick up all my food. I don’t see the point in the delivery apps unless you just super rich and that 10 minutes isn’t worth your time.

In my country (idk if this applies to all restaurants), they put a lot of tape on the bag and the container where the food is in it and also on the drinks and drivers are required to take a picture of the bag or food that they're delivering to avoid these kinds of events
I used to work at Starbucks and our tips were added up every two weeks (when we received our paychecks) and split among all of the employees. Sometimes the tips were really good and others we didn’t get anything. The tipping epidemic in America is ridiculous. I remember all of the memes that came from it. Like, I feel like it got to a point where customers would ask for tips, that’s how bad it got- 💀
One of my first jobs, a guy was picking up a meal and I explained the receipt to him and told him "the line here is for total, the line here is for tip". I think he felt guilty that I brought up the tip thing (again one of my first jobs and I was kind of winging it as I wasn't trained) so he tipped me a dollar. But, I never seen that dollar because our manager would steal the tips at the end of the night (which I didn't know at the time). Feels bad man. I hope his food was at least good. On the flip side, I tipped a Jimmy John's driver and he showed up 40 minutes after the order was supposedly "on the road". I literally could have walked from work to JJ and back in that time. I wish I could take my tip back.
Someone brought me the completely wrong order once (not even the same address). That's the only tip I wish I could've taken back. I haven't had any doordash drivers eat my food as far as I know.

Most places I order from through the dash have all of the food, including the drink sealed inside the bag- like with stickers/tape. You can request it be sealed up that way, too- but I suppose it depends on the place.
As a doordash driver once or twice in my life, I've heard of people doing this, but it's absolutely stupid. Doordash drivers ONLY make money off the tips before Monday or Tuesday where they started compensating the drivers a little bit. The tip on screen when we accept, is the tip we expect to get. It's why we accept or deny that order. He fuckin sipped!? Okay I gotta hold my comments till the end now
Bro, this is exactly why I can't do door dash or Uber eats. I just don't trust people enough to not do crap like this. Also, after speaking with a Roadhouse employee once, they have to share tips. Not all of your tip goes to the person handing you the food. It is crap and I hate the fact that people have to live off tips.
This people living on tips really caught me by surprise when I visited the US. I live in the UK, where we are rarely ever asked for tips & we only tip for good service. I was asked for a tip while picking a take away & I couldn't process it for a while.
This is why more restaurants need to start using those tamper stickers. I know some of them do, but with how prevalent Uber Eats and Doordash are now a days it needs to become a standard because of stuff like this.
Hey I work as a dishwasher/prep cook. And I can say from my experience that server would tip me on a rare occasion for helping them out but normally I don’t get tips. I would say 1 or 2 times a month. Love the content
So actually I worked for Olive Garden for the To Go, we would put the order together for you. Grab the food out of the window and then bring it to the front for other workers on our team to package it and to walk it to peoples cars. So collectively I guess we did do all the service and deserved tips but at the same time it was a tip pool so $5 would be distributed to 6 or 7 people. I’d say we didn’t really need the tips though.
There was this thing happening at some restaurants in Mexico City that never showed prices and charged way more if they found out clients were foreigners . They were also kind of aggresive with the tips and this government agency stepped up after multiple complaints and officially stated that: tips aren't mandatory nor should they charge tips , a percentage of your total, or "service" on your check plus, prices have to be visible. Which solved a lot of things there, tipping in other parts was something you do out of generosity and if you felt like doing but I understood it was never mandatory. Tippping in the US sounds ridiculuos nowadays

Where I'm from, if you go to get your own delivery, you actually get about a 10% discount on your order because those 10% would have been the delivery fee
I will never use door dash again. Had boba tea delivered and my dasher couldn't find my apartment. The person on the line couldn't understand English well so no matter what I did to explain how to find me, they couldn't. Eventually I got a message saying my order was delivered and the person ended up throwing the drinks at my door. It was the middle of summer so I had tons of flies gathered around a sticky door and floor. Made a report and uninstalled the app. Never again.
I got Wendy's through DoorDash last night, just trying to get a simple meal and it was a disaster the whole way through. First I tried to just get a meal that costs $7.63. The total price for the entire order was nearly TRIPLE that with the delivery fee & fees/taxes at $21.58. So I eventually decided to just add a wrap to the order as well so I hit the $12 threshold for free delivery through the dash pass, and got it down to $20.97. Side note, it's absolute insanity that I can order MORE and spend less. Takes about an hour to get here, which is whatever, but when the lady hands me my bag, she said that there was some problem with the frosties and I would need to refund it. Unfortunate, but not that big of a deal. Then I get into my room and the wrap is just not in there either. So I spent over $20 on a $7.53 meal and didn't get half of my order. I love DoorDash
Biggest problem with businesses like doordash is they dont require any previous work experience, and so if its someone's first job then they have basically no supervision or training on basic customer skills and will do things like this thinking its perfectly fine or not a big deal. Its a shame because I like to tip delivery drivers atleast 15% because I used to work for tips too, but people like this really make me understand why some people unfortunately dont tip at all
Many people do not tip because that is a way to save money, selfishly, as opposed to not doing so for poor service. Which is 100% warranted. Tips are what allow for federal minimum wage. Which should be guaranteed regardless of tips, but is not. That is the real problem. If you hypothetically drove for an hour with no dead time and no tips you would make about 6 dollars *minus gas*.
@@zishere48 Minimum wage should not be guaranteed for independent contract work (such as doordash drivers for example) as that is solely based on individual competency and efficiency. If a minimum wage were mandated for such positions then someone who did their job well would make the same as someone who did it poorly, and there would be no incentive to do better than the bare minimum. If people really wanted to save money then they would just to to the grocery store and not order out, its about convince and it comes at a cost
As a dasher on the side, heres a few points to take. 1. The dasher chooses the order, they arent forced to. 2. Your ratings matter! Make sure to rate every delivery to not only support good dashers, but also show the bad ones they need to improve. If they keep getting bad ratings, they'll lose dashing privledge. 3. You can report inappropriate comments, like asking for more money, to dash support, and they'll keep a record of it. 4. If your drink was sipped, report it and ask for a refund or at least action against the driver. If enough ppl keep reporting it, it'll work. I know the process seems inefficient from the customer side, but there are certain expectations for dashers to follow. Don't let shitty behavior go without an equally shitty rating/report
Also side note, the higher the tip, usually the higher the quality driver, depending on the mile per dollar ratio. 5 star rated drivers are also rewarded, usually with higher tip order/better ratio orders, so it's sad that you had a bad experience given the tip you provided
I always tip $10 minimum when I used door dash and a sunday night I had not one but TWO orders stolen or misdelivered. Ordered once, food arrived, look outside, nothing. Report it to doordash, they refund credit immediately. Cool, I reorder same order. Different delivery comes, I get notification it's close to my house, I come downstairs and hear a car speed down my road. Once again, no food lol. Doordash didn't refund me either, so I just go pick up food myself now... Times are tough, more and more people steal...
As a chef who's worked at many restaurants. I've only worked at one restaurant where the chef got a small portion of the tips. And honestly if you ask me that's kinda crap. The chefs have the hardest job in the restaurant. Dealing with heat and sweating our asses off, servers being overly demanding, massive lines of tickets when it's busy and juggling multiple orders cooking at once, etc. If anything they deserve more of the tips, they made the damn food, as a customer I tip based on the quality of the food and the quality of the service. Realistically the server just picks stuff up or fills a cup with soda and brings it to you, and if they do that fast it's considered "good service" when realistically it's the kitchen who got that food put out fast. The kitchen does the majority of the work and gets none of the recognition. Sure our wages are different from servers but tipping culture makes chefs feel incredibly underappreciated while the servers get all the glowing reviews. The price you pay on the menu is the cost it takes for the chef to make that food. So I say just get rid of tips entirely. Pay servers a fair wage, and show your chefs some appreciation. Factor server wages into food costs and just pay them. Every restaurant should say "our food is now slightly more expensive (like $2 a dish lol), but we no longer accept tips. The increased cost is to pay our servers." every restaurant should do that until tipping is a thing of the past
$13 for 3 miles is an instant accept if you don't live like, off the freeway. Requesting tips is a faux pas anyway, and worst case scenario it shows $6.25 for 3, which is still an accept. Cups do slosh, but yeah that looks like a sip. Source: I'm a dasher.
As of 2021 (ruling passed in 2020), I think it was, tips are now legally allowed to split among kitchen staff under federal law. Federal law prevented that before. So now kitchen staff get paid less and fulfill their wage with shares of tips, in most places. It's just another way to lower wages for staff in restaurants.
I moved to this new place a few minths ago, and i have ordered popeyes 3 times and every time something was missing. The 3rd time it happened i called popeyes and told them to fire whoever is making these orders cause they cant read.
As someone who has both used door dash and done work as a dasher that is 100% wrong.... And honestly I find that disgusting.... I've never had a dasher ask for more money. (I usually tip between $7-$12) depending on how far out the place is and how much food I'm getting. When I was working for them I'd get stiffed with $3 runs, and I usually wouldn't accept anything lower than $6. Because at that point your just getting hosed. But yah, that scumbag 100% deserves to be fired.... (And take a damn English lesson... cuz that was rough.) And I'd guarantee they messed with your food and drink. You get suspicious shit like that happening auto report, get a refund, and toss that food in the garbage....

Also most large chain restaurants differ in how the tips are distributed. Some require 10 percent to go to the hostess for seating the tables and bussing them. Some restaurants have bussers that get a portion of the tip share as well. The to go people usually earn tips only on the to go orders. Every local joint will have different guidelines, but in all the restaurants I've worked in I've never heard of the cooking staff getting a portion of the tips usually because they make a steady wage and not a reduced wage working for tips, but each state and business might have different ideals. I mostly worked at diners and little places, as well as chain restaurants (Chili's, Applebee's, longhorn steak House)
I had a co-worker who never had a real job before (spent 5 years selling drugs) and they were making decent money with tips (around $25/hr) and they were so mad they thought they were being scammed and were gonna quit after a week. Turns out they made less in a week working full time then they would in a day selling drugs for a few hours. I wouldn't be surprised if its a similar situation here since the dasher seems like a hustler
In those wierd situations where I'm asked to tip for picking up my food. I just round the total up to an even amount. Just appeasing my OCD. Cause id rather pay $22 than $21.74.
I currently work at Texas Roadhouse, and the way they distribute the tips is a thing called tip share, and basically what that means is we only get a percentage of the tips that servers make, the tips get split between the bussers, hosts, and food running. It honestly sucks ass cuz u not making much from tip share, we don’t even get the tips that night it gets accumulated throughout the week then added to our checks at the end of the week
Ive had one or two drivers steal my food before, but nothing THIS scummy. And each time, I was given a full refund *plus* extra, and the food resent. Places around me still use the seals on bags and drinks, btw. Also I do sometimes tip when I pick up, because there IS service: them preparing the food. But usually I reserve that for the small local mom & pop restaurants around me, NOT the big chains, as a way to support the smaller business.
As a dasher I’d never drank any one’s drink or ate someone’s food I believe in Karma and I don’t wanna invite that to me. But $10 for 3 miles???? I’d be happy af, ALSO as THE DASHER and currently works for door dash I have the power to see the pay rate including your tip and miles before I even accept it. If that $10 tip was so bad for 3 miles they should’ve never accepted the order. Make sure you remind that to the driver if they pull some shit like that again. The whole traffic thing is bs in suburban areas if it was city it’s more believable
I work for Door Dash and I have no problem with you reporting this driver. They tell us how much we’re getting paid before we accept an order, there’s no reason to take an order and then ask for a better tip. If they didn’t like the tip they didn’t need to take the order. And that kind of behavior will make people less likely to want to use Door Dash in the future which will hurt those of us who are doing the job honestly.
Tipping is such a stupid concept. Most businesses go like, business buys goods, mark up, sell, then tax, use profits to pay workers. But for some reason restraints go, business buy goods, mark up, sell, tax, then ask customer for extra money instead of paying staff. Like what? Why? Just charge the customer more for the food and pay an hourly wage.
Uber Eats still does the seal. I order something from them a while ago (probably 2 weeks ) and when it got it they had a tape that said do not consume if tape is broken or something along that line.

I sometimes tip when I get food for take out if I see it's a small place where the waiters also prepare the food. We have that a lot over here and you often see that they are doing a really stressful job with all the orders coming in while also being on the grill or whatever necessary to prepare the order for pick up. If those people still end up being nice to me as a customers while ripping themselves in two while doing their job, I will absolutely tip them because I respect their dedication to still be nice. I agree though if it's just the waiter bringing my food outside, that the cooks in the kitchen prepared, not them. I probably won't tip.
Little Caesars introduced tipping and it works like a pool of tips. So it's evenly distributed. But how our supervisor said was "If X gets 5 dollars, everyone gets 5 dollars" which made no sense lmao
12 dollars for 3 miles is a great order. He has no reason to ask for more. Mileage is most important and a 1:2 dollar to mile is already considered great. It is against ToS to ask for money anyway.
i actively avoid anywhere that i may be asked to tip (which is most places) bc 1) anxiety go crazy 2) im not made of money bro 3) ill feel guilty if i dont tip but ill also feel guilty for whatever i do tip bc im spending money and getting nothing for it and thats how my brain operates 4) its hard to figure out what a "good" tip amount is so i just avoid it like the plague, i reaaaaally hope we can leave tipping culture behind because it is cheeks on both ends
It almost goes without saying; if someone tampers with your food, and you catch them (e.g., spit) immediately threaten litigation against the establishment. Precedent exists; follow through. Penalties exist for trust violators, especially dangerous or malicious ones - don't let this type of behavior slide. My only recommendation is after confrontation - exit as coolly and swiftly as possible - no need to go "waffle house style" viral.
Also a quick anecdote: At a coffee house I asked for a blueberry scone, but I wanted one with a bunch of icing because my last one was sparse. So I asked for one very, very politely. The service person gave me one, but when I was eating it I noticed she had spit on it. Apparently, people will do this type of thing for any reason at all, any minor inconvenience. I didn't confront her, but I can only imagine all of the other people she's done that to.
My sister used to work at an ice cream shop and she would say it was always better to tip in the Tip Jar than tip with a card because the shop would keep that money and the staff would't get any. If people tipped in the jar the staff would split the money at the end of the day.
I visited US recently & the whole tipping thing is very weird. People would live on my tips? Why the hell can't they be paid proper wages? I would tip in UK but when service is great, even then most places don't take a tip. Its an American thing I guess.

I ordered panda, and one time I had the dasher tell me food was at gate. No gates on the property at all. I call them rush down to find them and see a car pull off fast as fuck. I report to doordash about it and they come back to my house and throw the food at my door like it explodes all over the bag chowmein mess I'm telling you. I undowloaded the app and cancled pass next day. Just don't be lazy and get your own food. 😅
I've noticed this on a lot of my food. They all have those stickers/coverings where you can CLEARLY see if someone tampered with it. Even through drive through places like Taco Bell they still use them.
I door dash and they pay you a decent base amount at least where I live. You can choose to doordash individual orders where theres no penalty for refusing to do it or you can get payed $17 per hour for just doing them as they come
Shared tip pools are a minority. Majority of places ive worked at does a 2% food bill for kitchen staff as tips, 1% total sales for bartenders (on top of their tips at the bar), and servers usually keep everything else. Granted im in a city where minimum wage is $15. Tipping culture is a cancer. A big thing people do not realise as well is that there are places whom put the auto tip % AFTER the total, meaning they include the taxes into the total and calculate the tips that way. Normally tips are before taxes cause why would you tip on taxes.
I had Uber eats and I ordered a meal from McDonald’s like just food and a soda, I went to grab my food outside and I was confused why it’s dripping so I rush it upstairs and open the bag and the whole entire drink tipped over and probably went all over this dudes car but I just took a picture of the bag opened and didn’t take anything out and explained the drink spilled all over my food, and they gave me a full refund in like 10 minutes, and I still ate the soggy food cause I’m too lazy to order again
If you are ordering food, please give the tip to the delivery guy in person, not through the tips from the app. No one knows how each delivery service handles tips. In my case, I oncd asked a delivery if the tips shared in the app were given to him, he said no and that the delivery service keeps EVERYONE'S TIPS.
Tipping in the US is a terrible culture all because restaurants and these places don't pay their workers a good wage, and it seeped into doordash, uber, and all these other places.
To the last "do you tip if you go pick up," I somewhat disagree personally. The reason being is I do work in the restaurant industry and during the day it's one or two people making and placing your orders. They're also the one on til, so they're handling your food the whole process. Knowing that, I'd tip every time. Of course, the process isn't the same everywhere and at night the person on til is exclusively on til. So I wouldn't necessarily tip them unless they went above and beyond customer service (ironically, our instores at night tend to make anywhere between 30-70 in tips during four hour shifts).
Additionally in the place I work the tips go exclusively to whoever's on til (unless a customer pays cash explicitly to give to others). So it is a case of indiviual restaurant.
And regarding my belief for customer service: I never do anything expecting a tip. I do everything i can to go above and beyond to provide service because it's the right thing to do. Now when I teach teenagers customer service do I explain 1) always look at the circumstance at how you want to be treated and if that fails 2) if you want a tip at all you should exceed their expectations (but never expect it). Tipping to me is 100% the customer service since most people you're tipping aren't even the ones making it. The experiencei s what matters.
Tip the kitchen staff flats. They get paid the same as the people who serve and handle the dining room and don’t get tips unless specified it’s for them.
Yeah honestly working at a Chili's I agree you are picking up the food yourself but the Togo specialist makes sure you have everything in your order as well as the cutlery and other things in the bag before you pick it up. Should you tip like a waitress no, but I feel like 5 to 10 percent is fair for them making sure your food is all correct and you have all the sides and extras perfectly ready for you to just grab it and leave. Just my two cents

I mean if your going to say that you need to tip someone for a to go order then you better be getting your wallets out every week to tip your cashiers when they check out all your crap and bag it! 😂 I've worked in all the service and retail industries and the cook makes it which they are paid minimum wage to do, hostess is the one who puts the order in a box and bag and they get paid minimum wage for that as well. Not a servers job because they are doing the actual tip worthy work. Businesses need to stop trying to make consumers pay their employees wages. 🙄

I order a TON of adopt door dash. I’ve NEVER had someone ask for more tips (I tip well, also). Definitely good you reported them

In my country (idk if this applies to all restaurants), they put a lot of tape on the bag and the container where the food is in it and also on the drinks and drivers are required to take a picture of the bag or food that they're delivering to avoid these kinds of events
I used to work at Starbucks and our tips were added up every two weeks (when we received our paychecks) and split among all of the employees. Sometimes the tips were really good and others we didn’t get anything.

One of my first jobs, a guy was picking up a meal and I explained the receipt to him and told him "the line here is for total, the line here is for tip". I think he felt guilty that I brought up the tip thing (again one of my first jobs and I was kind of winging it as I wasn't trained) so he tipped me a dollar. But, I never seen that dollar because our manager would steal the tips at the end of the night (which I didn't know at the time).

On the flip side, I tipped a Jimmy John's driver and he showed up 40 minutes after the order was supposedly "on the road". I literally could have walked from work to JJ and back in that time. I wish I could take my tip back.
Someone brought me the completely wrong order once (not even the same address). That's the only tip I wish I could've taken back. I haven't had any doordash drivers eat my food as far as I know.

I only order from places that still use tamper proof seals. Only problem i run into nowadays is the place forgetting to give me something.
Most places I order from through the dash have all of the food, including the drink sealed inside the bag- like with stickers/tape. You can request it be sealed up that way, too- but I suppose it depends on the place.
This is why I don't use doordash. I just go get the food myself. Cant trust randoms.
As a doordash driver once or twice in my life, I've heard of people doing this, but it's absolutely stupid. Doordash drivers ONLY make money off the tips before Monday or Tuesday where they started compensating the drivers a little bit.
The tip on screen when we accept, is the tip we expect to get. It's why we accept or deny that order.

Bro, this is exactly why I can't do door dash or Uber eats. I just don't trust people enough to not do crap like this. Also, after speaking with a Roadhouse employee once, they have to share tips. Not all of your tip goes to the person handing you the food. It is crap and I hate the fact that people have to live off tips.
This people living on tips really caught me by surprise when I visited the US. I live in the UK, where we are rarely ever asked for tips & we only tip for good service. I was asked for a tip while picking a take away & I couldn't process it for a while.
This is why more restaurants need to start using those tamper stickers. I know some of them do, but with how prevalent Uber Eats and Doordash are now a days it needs to become a standard because of stuff like this.

Hey I work as a dishwasher/prep cook. And I can say from my experience that server would tip me on a rare occasion for helping them out but normally I don’t get tips. I would say 1 or 2 times a month. Love the content

I've ordered many foods for delivery and never once has any of them asked for a higher tip
So actually I worked for Olive Garden for the To Go, we would put the order together for you. Grab the food out of the window and then bring it to the front for other workers on our team to package it and to walk it to peoples cars. So collectively I guess we did do all the service and deserved tips but at the same time it was a tip pool so $5 would be distributed to 6 or 7 people. I’d say we didn’t really need the tips though.
There was this thing happening at some restaurants in Mexico City that never showed prices and charged way more if they found out clients were foreigners . They were also kind of aggresive with the tips and this government agency stepped up after multiple complaints and officially stated that: tips aren't mandatory nor should they charge tips , a percentage of your total, or "service" on your check plus, prices have to be visible. Which solved a lot of things there, tipping in other parts was something you do out of generosity and if you felt like doing but I understood it was never mandatory. Tippping in the US sounds ridiculuos nowadays

Where I'm from, if you go to get your own delivery, you actually get about a 10% discount on your order because those 10% would have been the delivery fee
I will never use door dash again. Had boba tea delivered and my dasher couldn't find my apartment. The person on the line couldn't understand English well so no matter what I did to explain how to find me, they couldn't. Eventually I got a message saying my order was delivered and the person ended up throwing the drinks at my door. It was the middle of summer so I had tons of flies gathered around a sticky door and floor. Made a report and uninstalled the app. Never again.

I got Wendy's through DoorDash last night, just trying to get a simple meal and it was a disaster the whole way through.
First I tried to just get a meal that costs $7.63. The total price for the entire order was nearly TRIPLE that with the delivery fee & fees/taxes at $21.58.
So I eventually decided to just add a wrap to the order as well so I hit the $12 threshold for free delivery through the dash pass, and got it down to $20.97.
Side note, it's absolute insanity that I can order MORE and spend less.
Takes about an hour to get here, which is whatever, but when the lady hands me my bag, she said that there was some problem with the frosties and I would need to refund it.
Unfortunate, but not that big of a deal.
Then I get into my room and the wrap is just not in there either.
So I spent over $20 on a $7.53 meal and didn't get half of my order.

Biggest problem with businesses like doordash is they dont require any previous work experience, and so if its someone's first job then they have basically no supervision or training on basic customer skills and will do things like this thinking its perfectly fine or not a big deal. Its a shame because I like to tip delivery drivers atleast 15% because I used to work for tips too, but people like this really make me understand why some people unfortunately dont tip at all
Many people do not tip because that is a way to save money, selfishly, as opposed to not doing so for poor service. Which is 100% warranted. Tips are what allow for federal minimum wage. Which should be guaranteed regardless of tips, but is not. That is the real problem. If you hypothetically drove for an hour with no dead time and no tips you would make about 6 dollars *minus gas*.
@@zishere48 Minimum wage should not be guaranteed for independent contract work (such as doordash drivers for example) as that is solely based on individual competency and efficiency. If a minimum wage were mandated for such positions then someone who did their job well would make the same as someone who did it poorly, and there would be no incentive to do better than the bare minimum. If people really wanted to save money then they would just to to the grocery store and not order out, its about convince and it comes at a cost
As a dasher on the side, heres a few points to take. 1. The dasher chooses the order, they arent forced to. 2. Your ratings matter! Make sure to rate every delivery to not only support good dashers, but also show the bad ones they need to improve. If they keep getting bad ratings, they'll lose dashing privledge. 3. You can report inappropriate comments, like asking for more money, to dash support, and they'll keep a record of it. 4. If your drink was sipped, report it and ask for a refund or at least action against the driver. If enough ppl keep reporting it, it'll work. I know the process seems inefficient from the customer side, but there are certain expectations for dashers to follow. Don't let shitty behavior go without an equally shitty rating/report
Also side note, the higher the tip, usually the higher the quality driver, depending on the mile per dollar ratio. 5 star rated drivers are also rewarded, usually with higher tip order/better ratio orders, so it's sad that you had a bad experience given the tip you provided
I always tip $10 minimum when I used door dash and a sunday night I had not one but TWO orders stolen or misdelivered. Ordered once, food arrived, look outside, nothing. Report it to doordash, they refund credit immediately. Cool, I reorder same order. Different delivery comes, I get notification it's close to my house, I come downstairs and hear a car speed down my road. Once again, no food lol. Doordash didn't refund me either, so I just go pick up food myself now... Times are tough, more and more people steal...
Never feel bad about reporting a bad employee. Touch people's food, lose your job. End of story. I don't care how bad you're struggling.
As a chef who's worked at many restaurants. I've only worked at one restaurant where the chef got a small portion of the tips. And honestly if you ask me that's kinda crap. The chefs have the hardest job in the restaurant. Dealing with heat and sweating our asses off, servers being overly demanding, massive lines of tickets when it's busy and juggling multiple orders cooking at once, etc. If anything they deserve more of the tips, they made the damn food, as a customer I tip based on the quality of the food and the quality of the service. Realistically the server just picks stuff up or fills a cup with soda and brings it to you, and if they do that fast it's considered "good service" when realistically it's the kitchen who got that food put out fast. The kitchen does the majority of the work and gets none of the recognition. Sure our wages are different from servers but tipping culture makes chefs feel incredibly underappreciated while the servers get all the glowing reviews.
The price you pay on the menu is the cost it takes for the chef to make that food. So I say just get rid of tips entirely. Pay servers a fair wage, and show your chefs some appreciation. Factor server wages into food costs and just pay them. Every restaurant should say "our food is now slightly more expensive (like $2 a dish lol), but we no longer accept tips. The increased cost is to pay our servers." every restaurant should do that until tipping is a thing of the past
considering i’m a doordash driver myself i’ve never seen anyone ask for more tips during a delivery that’s such an insane thing to ask
$13 for 3 miles is an instant accept if you don't live like, off the freeway. Requesting tips is a faux pas anyway, and worst case scenario it shows
$6.25 for 3, which is still an accept. Cups do slosh, but yeah that looks like a sip.

As of 2021 (ruling passed in 2020), I think it was, tips are now legally allowed to split among kitchen staff under federal law. Federal law prevented that before. So now kitchen staff get paid less and fulfill their wage with shares of tips, in most places. It's just another way to lower wages for staff in restaurants.
I moved to this new place a few minths ago, and i have ordered popeyes 3 times and every time something was missing. The 3rd time it happened i called popeyes and told them to fire whoever is making these orders cause they cant read.
As someone who has both used door dash and done work as a dasher that is 100% wrong.... And honestly I find that disgusting.... I've never had a dasher ask for more money. (I usually tip between $7-$12) depending on how far out the place is and how much food I'm getting.
When I was working for them I'd get stiffed with $3 runs, and I usually wouldn't accept anything lower than $6. Because at that point your just getting hosed.
But yah, that scumbag 100% deserves to be fired.... (And take a damn English lesson... cuz that was rough.) And I'd guarantee they messed with your food and drink. You get suspicious shit like that happening auto report, get a refund, and toss that food in the garbage....

Also most large chain restaurants differ in how the tips are distributed. Some require 10 percent to go to the hostess for seating the tables and bussing them. Some restaurants have bussers that get a portion of the tip share as well. The to go people usually earn tips only on the to go orders. Every local joint will have different guidelines, but in all the restaurants I've worked in I've never heard of the cooking staff getting a portion of the tips usually because they make a steady wage and not a reduced wage working for tips, but each state and business might have different ideals. I mostly worked at diners and little places, as well as chain restaurants (Chili's, Applebee's, longhorn steak House)

I had a co-worker who never had a real job before (spent 5 years selling drugs) and they were making decent money with tips (around $25/hr) and they were so mad they thought they were being scammed and were gonna quit after a week. Turns out they made less in a week working full time then they would in a day selling drugs for a few hours. I wouldn't be surprised if its a similar situation here since the dasher seems like a hustler

I currently work at Texas Roadhouse, and the way they distribute the tips is a thing called tip share, and basically what that means is we only get a percentage of the tips that servers make, the tips get split between the bussers, hosts, and food running. It honestly sucks ass cuz u not making much from tip share, we don’t even get the tips that night it gets accumulated throughout the week then added to our checks at the end of the week

Ive had one or two drivers steal my food before, but nothing THIS scummy. And each time, I was given a full refund *plus* extra, and the food resent.
Places around me still use the seals on bags and drinks, btw. Also I do sometimes tip when I pick up, because there IS service: them preparing the food. But usually I reserve that for the small local mom & pop restaurants around me, NOT the big chains, as a way to support the smaller business.
As a dasher I’d never drank any one’s drink or ate someone’s food I believe in Karma and I don’t wanna invite that to me. But $10 for 3 miles???? I’d be happy af, ALSO as THE DASHER and currently works for door dash I have the power to see the pay rate including your tip and miles before I even accept it. If that $10 tip was so bad for 3 miles they should’ve never accepted the order. Make sure you remind that to the driver if they pull some shit like that again. I work for Door Dash and I have no problem with you reporting this driver. They tell us how much we’re getting paid before we accept an order, there’s no reason to take an order and then ask for a better tip. If they didn’t like the tip they didn’t need to take the order. And that kind of behavior will make people less likely to want to use Door Dash in the future which will hurt those of us who are doing the job honestly.
As someone who never eats or drinks after people and always checks for this kind of stuff, this guy definitely drank a bit of the frappé.

Tipping is such a stupid concept. Most businesses go like, business buys goods, mark up, sell, then tax, use profits to pay workers. But for some reason restraints go, business buy goods, mark up, sell, tax, then ask customer for extra money instead of paying staff. Like what? Why? Just charge the customer more for the food and pay an hourly wage.
Uber Eats still does the seal. I order something from them a while ago (probably 2 weeks ) and when it got it they had a tape that said do not consume if tape is broken or something along that line.

Generally speaking I only tip wait staff and delivery drivers, workers I know don’t make minimum wage and are relying on tips to supplement that
I sometimes tip when I get food for take out if I see it's a small place where the waiters also prepare the food.
We have that a lot over here and you often see that they are doing a really stressful job with all the orders coming in while also being on the grill or whatever necessary to prepare the order for pick up.
If those people still end up being nice to me as a customers while ripping themselves in two while doing their job, I will absolutely tip them because I respect their dedication to still be nice.

Little Caesars introduced tipping and it works like a pool of tips. So it's evenly distributed. But how our supervisor said was "If X gets 5 dollars, everyone gets 5 dollars" which made no sense lmao

12 dollars for 3 miles is a great order. He has no reason to ask for more. Mileage is most important and a 1:2 dollar to mile is already considered great. It is against ToS to ask for money anyway.

It almost goes without saying; if someone tampers with your food, and you catch them (e.g., spit) immediately threaten litigation against the establishment. Precedent exists; follow through. Penalties exist for trust violators, especially dangerous or malicious ones - don't let this type of behavior slide. My only recommendation is after confrontation - exit as coolly and swiftly as possible - no need to go "waffle house style" viral.
Also a quick anecdote: At a coffee house I asked for a blueberry scone, but I wanted one with a bunch of icing because my last one was sparse. So I asked for one very, very politely. The service person gave me one, but when I was eating it I noticed she had spit on it. Apparently, people will do this type of thing for any reason at all, any minor inconvenience. I didn't confront her, but I can only imagine all of the other people she's done that to.
My sister used to work at an ice cream shop and she would say it was always better to tip in the Tip Jar than tip with a card because the shop would keep that money and the staff would't get any. If people tipped in the jar the staff would split the money at the end of the day.
I visited US recently & the whole tipping thing is very weird. People would live on my tips? Why the hell can't they be paid proper wages? I would tip in UK but when service is great, even then most places don't take a tip. Its an American thing I guess.

I ordered panda, and one time I had the dasher tell me food was at gate. No gates on the property at all. I call them rush down to find them and see a car pull off fast as fuck. I report to doordash about it and they come back to my house and throw the food at my door like it explodes all over the bag chowmein mess I'm telling you. I undowloaded the app and cancled pass next day. Just don't be lazy and get your own food. 😅

I've noticed this on a lot of my food. They all have those stickers/coverings where you can CLEARLY see if someone tampered with it. Even through drive through places like Taco Bell they still use them.

I door dash and they pay you a decent base amount at least where I live. You can choose to doordash individual orders where theres no penalty for refusing to do it or you can get payed $17 per hour for just doing them as they come
Shared tip pools are a minority. Majority of places ive worked at does a 2% food bill for kitchen staff as tips, 1% total sales for bartenders (on top of their tips at the bar), and servers usually keep everything else. Granted im in a city where minimum wage is $15. Tipping culture is a cancer. A big thing people do not realise as well is that there are places whom put the auto tip % AFTER the total, meaning they include the taxes into the total and calculate the tips that way. Normally tips are before taxes cause why would you tip on taxes.
I had Uber eats and I ordered a meal from McDonald’s like just food and a soda, I went to grab my food outside and I was confused why it’s dripping so I rush it upstairs and open the bag and the whole entire drink tipped over and probably went all over this dudes car but I just took a picture of the bag opened and didn’t take anything out and explained the drink spilled all over my food, and they gave me a full refund in like 10 minutes, and I still ate the soggy food cause I’m too lazy to order again
If you are ordering food, please give the tip to the delivery guy in person, not through the tips from the app. No one knows how each delivery service handles tips. In my case, I oncd asked a delivery if the tips shared in the app were given to him, he said no and that the delivery service keeps EVERYONE'S TIPS.

Tipping in the US is a terrible culture all because restaurants and these places don't pay their workers a good wage, and it seeped into doordash, uber, and all these other places.

To the last "do you tip if you go pick up," I somewhat disagree personally. The reason being is I do work in the restaurant industry and during the day it's one or two people making and placing your orders. They're also the one on til, so they're handling your food the whole process. Knowing that, I'd tip every time. Of course, the process isn't the same everywhere and at night the person on til is exclusively on til. So I wouldn't necessarily tip them unless they went above and beyond customer service (ironically, our instores at night tend to make anywhere between 30-70 in tips during four hour shifts).
Additionally in the place I work the tips go exclusively to whoever's on til (unless a customer pays cash explicitly to give to others). So it is a case of indiviual restaurant.
And regarding my belief for customer service: I never do anything expecting a tip. I do everything i can to go above and beyond to provide service because it's the right thing to do. Now when I teach teenagers customer service do I explain 1) always look at the circumstance at how you want to be treated and if that fails 2) if you want a tip at all you should exceed their expectations (but never expect it). Tipping to me is 100% the customer service since most people you're tipping aren't even the ones making it. The experiencei s what matters.
Tipping in my opinion should only be for when the service goes beyond their minimum requirement, like just doing your job is not tip worthy

Yeah honestly working at a Chili's I agree you are picking up the food yourself but the Togo specialist makes sure you have everything in your order as well as the cutlery and other things in the bag before you pick it up. Should you tip like a waitress no, but I feel like 5 to 10 percent is fair for them making sure your food is all correct and you have all the sides and extras perfectly ready for you to just grab it and leave. Just my two cents
