Coming from someone twice your age... people have always been struggling and have mostly kept their challenges to themselves. It's finally considered acceptable to be open about our feelings. 🙂

Shortest days of the year, rainy and cold in some places, low vit d in our bodies.. some people stressing about upcoming holidays...all around poo sandwich time of the year.

I needed this vid! Oct-Dec is normally my fave time of year but past few weeks I've felt like blu tac stretched too thin.
Something about the change in weather, wanting to be busy but struggling to keep up with a relentless schedule, realising I'm probably going to flop some of my new years resolutions. Multiple existential crisis about what I'm doing with my life.
Thanks for sharing your struggles, it's always reassuring to know you aren't alone. We're all gonna make it, one way or another!

I very rarely comment on social, but just wanted to say how awesome you are and proud of yourself you should be. It doesn't matter how old you are, no one ever has it all figured out, as "together" as it may seem they are. I'm 44 years old and constantly question myself and what I'm doing. Don't let anyone make you feel like you don't have the right to have those moments of self-doubt just because you chose to follow your dreams or a path that isn't "traditional" according to someone else's standard. You're a trailblazer and making your own path that is right for you. Follow those dreams and don't let anyone minimize the hard work and sacrifice you are making to follow them! Where some would say privileged, I prefer to say that you're a professional athlete, entrepreneur and business owner, which in my opinion is way more difficult than working for someone else because you're chosen to invest in yourself. Just remember to take a deep breath, even if it's just 5 min a day. You've got this!

Just wanted to say your slogan really sticks with me when I find things tough, because life is a grind (I bought one of your T-shirts). I’ve been having health issues the last couple of months which have felt like they’ve come out of nowhere and caused me a lot of anxiety. Self care is really important, don’t burn yourself out. Health is wealth.

Thank you for sharing this video. Appreciate the honest moments you shared. It not only helps show you struggling, but also how you adjusted by skipping your gym session (and the tips you offered for when people are struggling). It was also great seeing you get a run in on a treadmill. Treadmills get a bad reputation, but they can be a useful tool. Keep up the good work!

It's a really strong thing to do, to admit when you're having a challenging time. The more people who talk about it, the more we all realise we're not alone or going mad and you know it's not just you. I'm 49 and I still haven't got a clue, I'm still making it up, wanting to really pursue my dreams (acting and writing) and just muddling through. My poor Dad isn't well at all and my sister and I are supporting them but it's changed our routines so much and I'm so tired. But you take each day as it comes and as you said it's okay to do the bare minimum. Looking after yourself is so important. You look like you're training so well and working so hard, but just make sure you balance everything to get to the start line. I got Good for Age for London so I'll be starting marathon training again January. So excited but those cold long runs......!! Keep going Philly. You've got this. 🙂

Thanks so much for this Phily, for your honesty, for saying that it's OK to do the bare minimum at times when you're struggling, and also for showing yourself walking up a hill 😃 I do it a lot since I moved to a VERY hilly region this autumn where there are basically no flat stretches longer than 500m at all and it feels very much like I'm cheating or being sluggish. I'm struggling as well atm. Also had a cold and then the coughing phase after as I also have asthma. I signed up for a 53km race with a lot of altitude early next spring and due to my illness I couldn't run for a whole week and felt really down about that as well, but today I went out for just a short run in the snow and am feeling slightly more positive now. Good luck to you, for the tests as well as everything else you've got coming up! Would love to buy some merch but can't afford it rn. And thanks again for sharing this, it's weird to say I like to see that other people are suffering as well, that's not what I mean 😖😄, but it is comforting to know that others go through similar stuff as well and it's not the end of the world.

U know Philly, it took me until 40 years old to have an epiphany (while I was our running as a matter of fact) & realise life is generally 99.9% made up as you go, & that no one tells you how to be an adult😂 It’s like my Mum’s fav saying to anyone that is about to have kiddos “they don’t come with instruction manuals…u just do the absolute best you can, mostly on the fly”🤣Many have tried to give us life instruction manuals (books/podcasts etc.) but I haven’t come across 1 yet that has it completely nailed, & applicable to everyone! You may not realise it sometimes but ur crushing it, & you inspire me everyday…& I know many others also! I’m so glad u have a Daniel in your life you can vent to & is beside you through this wild ride we call life!!! U got this Philly!!!!🙌🏼💪🏼🫶

There is no judgement here. Quite the opposite. We need more runners being open about struggling-or just having “low” times generally. For something as “simple”
As running, be it your job, your avocation, your hobby, your stress relief, or whatever, it’s deceivingly complex.
I may not be doing 95 mpw, but I do push 80 when I’m in peak
Marathon training, I I put that on a schoolteacher’s schedule. It’s taken me many years to realize how important taking a step back and prioritizing my own mental and emotional wellness is.
Phily, you and Daniel are real people, and you both inspire. Keep up the greatness, keep loving the grind, and keep loving yourselves and one another!

Thank you for sharing how you're feeling. I think Christmas is a really difficult time, especially with needing to see loads of people, go out for dinner/drinks, buy presents, go out when it's light which is about 4 hours in the day ha. It's really tough. Take it easy, you're doing great. Dial back on the levers that aren't important/necessary (new merch a good start), do the bare minimum (which for you is still so much ha!) and look after yourself.

Credit to you for being open about this. Just because you are a paid full time athlete does not make it easy. You are still the one has to do all the sessions, make sacrifices, travel a lot, be under the spotlight with performances etc. It makes sense. Whatever our jobs though, we are all trying to juggle these things of exercise, family, sleep, clean house etc. Sometimes you just have to accept some things need to slip!

Not sure how I found your site, glad I did. Trying to get back into running, late in life. Love your frenetic energy. I sense some Existential Anxiety. Suffered greatly from that myself. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Stoicism, Secular Buddhism gave me some tools that helped. But life is just crazy, confusing and ... short. But as you have observed that's ok, that's the essence of modern life - its nuts and then its over. Good luck on your journey. Be present in this moment and let go, not of direction, but of destinations. This doesn't mean that we don't set goals or plan. It means that you should be 100 percent engaged in what you are doing now. A key teaching in Buddhism. Your sense of humour, authenticity and down to earth attitude are awesome. Cheers and thanks for the running advise. Daniel L. from Canada. (you are already amazing)

@@PhilyBowden You have to! it's like the whole purpose of life, everything that you have learned and gained wisdom on needs to be passed on, so your child can go further with it than you did if they so choose, when you look into the babies eyes, you will be so glad you made the decision to have him/her!

There is more to life than earthly accomplishment. I am certain the answer is being in relationship with the one that created you. That is God, not your mom and dad :). A life serving God through faith in Jesus is a place of joy unspeakable in every circumstance of life conceivable. If you have never considered putting your faith in Jesus to redeem your soul, and then follow his example to serve the one true God I encourage you to do just that. If you do that I am certain that you will find a level of life fulfillment that you have never experienced before.
