So glad you reviewed this movie!! Being the enormous Halloween fan that I am, I'll throw in a couple of bits of info for anyone who cares: Laurie was estestablished as Michael's sister in Halloween II (1981) which is why they had to negate everything that happened in that film for this one (because they didn't want her to be his sister) - also, Nick Castle was the original Michael Myers in the first Halloween and also one of two in Halloween (2018) (along with James Jude Courtney) but that's it (you might have been confusing him with Kane Hodder playing the most Jason's in F13 films) Also, John Carpenter was an Executive Producer and consultant as well as doing all of the music for the new film. I don’t think your theory about Allison is weird. I know it is only a sequel from the original, but the 4th Halloween movie ends with Jamie (Lorie’s daughter in the OG) standing with the clown mask on with bloody scissors after attacking her foster parents. I think if they do create a sequel to the 2018 Halloween, they’re definitely going to follow the 4th and 5th original ones but instead with Lorie’s granddaughter having that connection.
I also accidentally saw it on the 40th anniversary!! There's something iconic about that. Also, Halloween 2 was when Laurie was revealed to be Michael's sister! :)
I went to see this on opening night. Personally i loved this one and how it was set 40 years later. It was good to see Jamie Lee Curtis come back, as well as John Carpenter doing the score. Halloween II is where Michael is Laurie's brother. John Carpenter and Debra Hill wrote Halloween II and decided to have the story pick up about 5 minutes later. And to make it more "interesting", had the idea of introducing Michael being Laurie's brother.
Easy break down. 1,2,4,5,6 were supposed to be a continuous story of Michael trying to kill his family. 1st Judith, then Laurie, the Laurie's daughter Jamie. SPOILERS******* Sorry to disagree, but the plot twist you mention was certainly not random and it had TWO points. First of all, all of the Doctor's dialogue, especially with the Deputy Sheriff, not to mention his actions (there is no Psychiatrist on Earth who has not had their sanity seriously comprised that would let that Vlog duo do that stunt with the mask, nor would they insist on traveling with him to his new facility). They make it fairly clear (a second viewing helps, however) that it was the Doctor who orchestrated the bus crash in the first place, so that he could observe Michael "in the wild." Anyway, I disagree that his actions to begin the 3rd act were random at all, but completely in sync with his character. It was subtle, so that it would still be a surprise, but the signs were certainly there that this man had gone mad from his time with Michael. And that is the second point of his actions, beyond just a plot device to get Michael to Laurie.......I would say there are two main themes in this film, the first being PTSD and the effects of long term trauma. The second is how all the characters respond to Michael. Michael is the Shape, he has no character, just a force of evil. So, what's interesting are the ways people respond to that. Laurie, the Deputy Sheriff, and his old Doctor, Loomis, all became obsessed in their own way over Michael. This doctor did as well, but his obsession did not drive him to destroy him, but to understand him. That is the second point of the scene, to show just how powerful and dangerous it is to be around Michael Myers when he's doing nothing at all. Just his presence alone is dangerous. Anyway, I enjoy your channel and am subscribed, so I hope this didn't sound like an angry rant, that was not my intent. But because I give a damn about what you think, I wanted to take the time to write this for your consideration. Also, I think I am getting PTSD over the reactions to this plot twist. Please understand, you still don't have to like it, or wish there had been more leading up to it, that's fair. I just wanted to defend the idea that there was a genuine point to it besides a mere plot device.
Satyrcain66 I appreciate that insight! I wasn’t a fan of the “twist” but the way you described that he may orchestrated it to see him in the wild makes it make more sense. Though I do think they could’ve done some more building to make that more apparent. But that thought made it feel a little less like a plot hole!
I am speaking from the perspective of someone who has ptsd from a violent attack, so to me everything Laurie did made sense. The reason why she sets the whole house on fire is because it was never meant to be a safe house to keep Micheal at bay. It was always meant to be his cage. That’s why you see when she’s going through the house at the end and checking every room for him, each room has a similar “cage” door to the basement one, so that way no matter what room he’s in he’s trapped (as well as to eliminate those room as spaces he can go/be). She was never scared of him escaping. Laurie prayed every day that Micheal would escape so she would have the opportunity to catch and kill him. It’s a coping and survival tactic used by people with trauma in real life. They also talked about it at one point in the movie. I forget the exact lines, but the doctor talks about how people who experience traumatic events such as a violent attack deal with it in one of such ways and continues to describe them. Laurie’s way was to be prepared for the catch and kill.
The brother sister connection is made between Michael and Laurie in Halloween 2 which happens on the same night as Halloween after Laurie is taken to hospital.. The Jamie timeline isn't too bad if you like slasher films and Michael. Same as the Laurie timeliness except she's his niece and he goes after her next. That timeline has one of my favorite characters Rachel.
actually the twist was apparently gonna turn the dr. into the new Michael Myers and thats why he turned evil but the original screen test saw people not liking that so they changed it to just kill off the Dr.
I had the impression that Laurie just went out into the world in fear that he was going after the granddaughter. Especially since no one could get a hold of her. I doubt she would of went after him if the whole family was together in the house!
After years of her locking herself in her house I think the reason she leaves when she finds out Michael escaped is because she knows for a fact he's out there and she's not just being paranoid. If she stayed in her house she would never have the chance to kill him which she was preparing for since the first movie.
The easiest way I explained it to my mom and friends is that you have 2 main story lines; Jamie and Laurie, with the miscellaneous ( Rob Zombie garbage and Season of the witch). Laurie’s story is basically H1, H2, H20, and beginning of resurrection. Jamie’s story is H4, H5, and Curse of Michael Myers. The only thing that’s been consistent was the brother sister relationship throughout Laurie’s story and in Jamie’s story where Michael is Jamie’s uncle
The first sequel introduced them as siblings. Dr Loomis has a nurse friend who comes down and informs him of that. I love the franchise but they did have several reboots which throws you off. Halloween 4 is a start over from 1 and 2. Then H2O reboots the series from the first 2 wipping out 4 to 6 events
i agree with everything you said! I also think that Allison will become the next killer...that would be an interesting thing for Laurie to have to deal with as a character
They tried passing the torch to a new killer in Halloween 4, with Laurie's daughter, but that didn't go over too well, and in the next film they just brought Michael back again and changed the meaning of the previous film's final scene to being a psychic link with Michael. I doubt they'd try that route again...they've had forty years to see what people do and don't like in these films.
Laurie became agoraphobic but she wanted to face up with her demon that carved her the that fear. Maybe that is why she felt that she have to go outside her cage because she can finally confront her demon. Laurie's persona is very complex and very human. I think she is the appropriate form of a strong female character should be.
Laurie Strode in the original franchise is his sister. She figures that out in the original sequel to Halloween. They just chose to not go with that story line for this sequel because they are ignoring all the other movies apart from the original.
If you watch Halloween 2, Laurie's was "killed" in a car accident. Her daughter Jamie comes down the stairs at the end with a clown mask and a bloody knife because she killed her mom, I think. So this possibility of another Michael has been explored before but nothing came out of it. Haloween Kills is the next movie will be out Oct 2021.
It’s actually shown in footage not used for Halloween 1 that Laurie was his sister. The extended scene before loomis is walking out giving the hospital shit for Michael driving out of there is him petitioning to keep him locked up there and not transfer him. But it is actually seen by the audience in Halloween 2. Also you really should watch all the movies as this new one pays respect to a lot of them (it’s not necessary but it gives you more of a respect for this movie) as a Halloween fan I think this was well done. And him not killing the children that bumped him isn’t new. The only time Michael has ever killed a child is the very beginning of this movie. It was actually shocking that he did. I remember arguing with my husband after we left the theaters because he’s never done it. ❤️
Carpenter created the sister plot line solely for the sequel, and he hated it. He drank heavily while writing the script because he never wanted a sequel, and that was the only reason for it being introduced. It was never even originally intended for the original so I'm not sure where you're getting that from? I'm not trying to be a dick 😂 I'm genuinely curious if someone reported that?!
Mother Mayhem you can find the cut scenes online. I forgot who’s video it was in reviewing the movies but the scene where dr. Loomis is walking out with the one that runs smiths grove arguing about michael. The man says he can’t drive and Loomis says someone here must have given him lessons. There was an extended scene before that. It showed him pleading with the board to not transfer Michael but they thought Loomis was crazy. It said it during that hearing that he has another sister and also his middle name being Audrey which is odd because carpenter said he didn’t know where they came up with that but it shows it during his film.
Ahhh! That scene! It was filmed for television, after the sequel was filmed, so that when aired on television the two would flow more cohesively. It was never intended for the original film 😊 but I grew up on the vhs recorded television versions so growing up the sister plot line was always cannon! I think if Carpenter didn't shit on the sequel as much as he does everyone would love it much more
Mother Mayhem agreed. Halloween is my all time horror movie. I love carpenters eye for the first film. I think as they went on it seemed more about gore and less about suspense which is what I love about the first two movies. I really enjoyed the new one. They paid respect to many of the other films best moments even though they dismiss all other movies. I never knew there was scenes made just for tv. Thanks for clarifying ❤️
I remember in one of the movies i think it was Halloween 4 or 5 but Danielle Harris who played Jamie Lloyd, (Laurie Strode’s daughter), had a scene where she is also holding a knife, i think it was for signifying that she got possessed or taken over by The Shape. I could be wrong but thats what i can remember I haven’t seen that movie in a while. ( I love this Sequel to the Original Halloween, but the doctor trying to be The Shape was a big No from me)
I personally didn’t think it was that good. Parts of it were really good while other parts were really cheesy and predictable. I think it included some things from the original but something big was missing from it
I just got home from seeing it and I agree! I liked it from a fun perspective but there were some major gaps/I felt like I was watching a really really cut down version. Certain scenes felt like they were missing big chunks of dialogue. Also what happened to the boyfriend?? He just disappeared.
I really liked the movie. I only had a few nitpicks here or there. And I thought I was the only one who thought that the granddaughter could be a killer since they focused on that knife in the last shot haha
The thing about the plot twist was not only did it seem like lazy writing to get Michael to Laurie's place, they still left out how Michael actually got to Laurie's house since the only way you could get there was by Laurie opening the gate like she did for the podcasters after they talked to her on the intercom. Did Laurie just leave the gate open during the third act of the film? Did she let the doctor though while the granddaughter and Michael were in the backseat? Surely the granddaughter would have screamed for help or something if that was the case? If Laurie didn't let them in, then the granddaughter simply made it to Laurie's house by running through the woods?
I honestly was a bit disappointed . I enjoyed the references to the original movie , but i somehow wasn't deeply touched by this one . I must admit the carpenter remix is a total bop though :D
*Spoilers* just in case I think the point of Laurie prepping for Michael wasn't paranoia alone. To me she wasn't driven by fear entirely but a need for violent vengeance. Which is why I think if there is a second one, it would make sense for Laurie to be the new killer. It would be interesting if Michael did survive and it's her hunting and him running.
I’m pretty sure that the original cut of the movie had the doctor taking over as Michael but test audiences hated it so much they did some reshoots where Michael lives from being hit by the car.
Right after the ending I had the same feeling of what if the granddaughter starts killing in the next one. I feel like there were too many loose ends in this movie for them not to make another.
OMG I was SO excited and waiting forward to this review! I was debating if I should go to the cinema for Halloween and now I'm definitely going to give it a try. Staying spoiler-free but Imma come back after the movie for the rest of the review! Also guuurl you look so pretty and halloweeny!
I say continue with the American Horror Story reviews, because that's what made me subscribe to you last year because I was watching People's reviews and I enjoyed yours.
I think the point of Laurie leaving the house once she finds out Michael is free is that she wanted to kill him. The scene towards the end when they trap Michael in the basement Karen says “it’s not a cage it’s a trap.” Meaning for Karen’s entire life she knew one day her mom wanted to trap Michael down there.
spoiler: the doctor plot twist also explains how Michael was put on a bus with all nom aggressive patients and how the bus crashed since the dr would have stabbed the driver with the pen knife. hence why he was still alive in the bus.
What you said about Laurie not confirming Michael was dead and getting that piece of mind was a little odd to me too as I thought that was the entire point. I had the feeling she knew Michael would escape and come after her and the only way to stop it was to end him. I kinda agree with the whole goreaphobe ( if that's spelled right lol) thing but I don't think Laurie was afraid of the world as she was shown outside with Allyson prior to Michael's escape and went to the prison during the transfer to kill him. I think that shows just her paranoia and feeling that he was going to escape and come after her. And as I said the only way to end it was to kill him. So as she was afraid it was always her plan to kill him.
I like the idea of Lori being Michaels sister, and with the way the Rob Zombie version went, it wold have left them as the only ones of their family left (just crossing plots here), leaving Lori as Michael's sort of unfinished business (no idea what happened to his parents after his incarceration in the original, though). I also noticed when the basement was on fire, and he was just standing there while it burned around him, in the final shot between the bars (of the flames) we didn't see Michael standing there anymore, which is yet another open ending if they DID decide to make a sequel... to this sequel... which rewrites the sequel that already worked... but anyway... I really liked it. Something was lacking for me to feel completely satisfied, but I don't know exactly what (maybe just the sibling thing?), but I would still consider it one of my favourite modern horror films and a great addition to the franchise :)
The major issue I had with this movie was the part he gets shot in the fucking face, in the body, and somehow he just stands up (in a weird L way) and proceeds his path. He's not a fucking human, man, he's the new Jason Vorhees. I love a meme about him that says "I never die, but when I do, I don't"
John Carpenter created the sibling connection for Halloween 2. He didn't direct that movie but he wrote the screenplay. Some of the original sequels were really good. They weren't all a mess, but there's 2-3 stinkers that are hated by many but that I still find entertaining (you should watch them before giving an opinion!) The rest were good. I hate both of Zombie's Halloweens. Once each was more than enough for me. As you said though, none of them have anything to do with this new sequel.
U seriously need to watch ALL Halloween movies and do reviews, a ranking etc. its legit the best horror franchise ever, alot of the sequels r awsome and full of fall vibes!!!
I loved this movie. I'm a big fan if the whole franchise minus Halloween 3 seeing that had nothing to do with Michael Myers. The new one really held up for me. And I do agree with you about the whole plot twist thing and most of the other films false. Great review. I subbed.
But as a whole you should totally watch all the Halloweens, some are good some aren’t. But I’m such a classic horror fan and they all hold a special place in my heart. Gotta see them. Love your review.❤️ There are alot of odes to the other movies too.
Do a review of the Terrifier! i watched the movie after you did that halloween makeup tutorial for the clown and I'm curious what you think of the movie! :)
As a huge fan since I was a child, this was a closer film for what really happened and this was an amazing movie for the people who grew up wanting a true Micheal Myers film not the rob zombie ones ......If he isn’t after Laure and hunting her then she wouldn’t be waiting for him knowing he is coming for her it’s not random when it comes to wanting/needing to kill her, yes it was a great recreation of the h20 bathroom scene that was like a great part of my 2000
Technically in the old movies Laurie is michaels sister in the 4th Halloween the main character is a little girl and that little girl is Laurie’s daughter (so obvi michaels niece) and he comes back to kill her.
I'm very glad you're feeling better. :) I honestly think Halloween (2018) is better than the original in every single aspect. From its story, to its characters, its atmosphere, its scares, its kills, the performances, the cinematography, the score, and even Michael Myers being a much bigger threat than he ever was in the original.
Ya I feel like you should of watched the films before you spoke on this to get a feel for the entirety of the research and did more research James Jude Courtney played michael in this film, nick was in 1 shot and George p Wilbur played the most Michaels besides the remakes, and played Michael in 4 and 6
I honestly don't think Laurie was agoraphobic. There's a scene at the beginning where she goes to see her granddaughter to give her money. I don't really think she's scared of going outside her house. As we saw at the end, the house was always meant to be a trap, not a fortress. What I think is happening is PTSD, not agoraphobia. The reliving of the trauma when triggers are present, paranoia, hypervigilance, social isolation, irritability. That's more associated with PTSD than agoraphobia. There are no scenes that really indicate that she has that disorder.
I’m so glad you liked it as much as I did ! So many reviewers hated it & I don’t know why! Jamie lee Curtis is a legend ! Just really enjoyed her in this movie ! Also I agree with you , I think Allison will become the killer in the next movie ! Fingers crossed there is one ! 😘
I would love to watch you recap the episodes of AHS that have aired. I dont mind that time has passed and even if it goes up right before the next episode airs or after I would still watch.
Until you said something about Allyson with the knife at the end it didn't quite click, but if you look back at the original, young Michael still has the knife in his hand after he kills Judith, which could have definitely been foreshadowing. IDK just what I see now..
I think the plot twist was intentional to purposely shut it down, saying we aren’t going down this road, we aren’t going to have a copycat killer. Not gonna lie though it had me worried when it happened but was greatly relieved when Michael killed him
i would still really like to hear your thoughts on ahs! so much has happened in the past few episodes and i really want to know how you feel about the murder house episode

Exactly. Some of the criticisms I’ve heard, they just missed the point of what was going on. 😆
After years of her locking herself in her house I think the reason she leaves when she finds out Michael escaped is because she knows for a fact he's out there and she's not just being paranoid. If she stayed in her house she would never have the chance to kill him which she was preparing for since the first movie.
I would also like to hear your opinion on h20. Like which would you think is better h20 or h40 🤔
I looove your reviews but how has someone who has a horror based youtube channel not seen halloween 2 to 7? My mind is blown. 🤯
I honestly loved this movie.
This movie was Hot Garbage. A very disappointing movie.
I loved it too! I was so excited whenever he killed another person lmao.
Rayne Shadow ME TOO
i agree with everything you said!
I doubt they'd try that route again...they've had forty years to see what people do and don't like in these films.
i just saw this movie on halloween. couldn't have spent my halloween better tbh!
Laurie became agoraphobic but she wanted to face up with her demon that carved her the that fear. Maybe that is why she felt that she have to go outside her cage because she can finally confront her demon. Laurie's persona is very complex and very human. I think she is the appropriate form of a strong female character should be.
She is agoraphobic. The only reason why she snapped out of it was because she wanted to protect her daughter and granddaughter from Michael.
NADS IQ why do you consider it a chick flick? There was zero love story involved.
I think it included some things from the original but something big was missing from it
Its Halloween. The franchise is cheesy.
Did you ever get around to watching any of the original Halloween sequels?
Love your editing in this video! Also you look absolutely beautiful - makeup, hair, sweater on point 👌🏼👌🏼
I love your take on the movie! And I’m so glad I got to see it on Halloween day
THIS HALLOWEEN WAS AMAZING !!!! Great sequel !
*Spoilers* just in case
I think the point of Laurie prepping for Michael wasn't paranoia alone.
I recommend watching Halloween 2 if you like the original, as it follows directly one from it... literally takes part on the same night as the first
Right after the ending I had the same feeling of what if the granddaughter starts killing in the next one. I feel like there were too many loose ends in this movie for them not to make another.
Keep going with AHS! I kept checking every week to see if you uploaded your review on the episode. 😍
I got so confused at the doctor killing the cop scene!! Haha I thought the same as you haha
spoiler:
the doctor plot twist also explains how Michael was put on a bus with all nom aggressive patients and how the bus crashed since the dr would have stabbed the driver with the pen knife. hence why he was still alive in the bus.
I love a meme about him that says "I never die, but when I do, I don't"
clicked this soooo quick
John Carpenter created the sibling connection for Halloween 2. He didn't direct that movie but he wrote the screenplay. Some of the original sequels were really good. They weren't all a mess, but there's 2-3 stinkers that are hated by many but that I still find entertaining (you should watch them before giving an opinion!) The rest were good. I hate both of Zombie's Halloweens. Once each was more than enough for me.
As you said though, none of them have anything to do with this new sequel.
I would really like a 3-episode-recap of AHS :)
I thought it was all right. It was just fan service, which is fine. I'm glad they referenced Halloween 3.
U seriously need to watch ALL Halloween movies and do reviews, a ranking etc. its legit the best horror franchise ever, alot of the sequels r awsome and full of fall vibes!!!
Also I thought the whole point of the bunker is to make you think it's for scared Laurie when really it's a trap for Michael.
My favs
1.Halloween 1978
2. Halloween 2018
3. Halloween 2007
4. Halloween h2o
I thought the exact same thing about the granddaughter being a killer as soon as I saw the knife
Literally just got home from seeing this movie!
The original Halloween II (1981) is the movie that revealed that Michael is Laurie's sister.
ahh i saw this last night with my boyfriend and i was so excited to check out your review!!
I don't think Laurie was a germophobe more like still suffering from PTSD and paranoia.
Actual review doesn’t start until 7:04. Your welcome 👍🏼
We want a whole review of the 3 episodes!!!
I'm in love with your sweater
Sarah! You are gorgeous in this video! 😍 😍 Thx for the review. Gonna see this one sometime this weekend and Im very excited.
i like this halloween so much..and nice to see jamie lee curtis back in action.
Ya I feel like you should of watched the films before you spoke on this to get a feel for the entirety of the research and did more research James Jude Courtney played michael in this film, nick was in 1 shot and George p Wilbur played the most Michaels besides the remakes, and played Michael in 4 and 6
i would LOOOOOVE to see you on the Dead Meat podcast with James and Rebecca 😍😍
Chelsea*
Chelsea* But yes. Would be awesome
There are no scenes that really indicate that she has that disorder.
there’s a scene where her daughter says that she’s agoraphobic so I was just saying it because of that! but I see what you mean and agree.
I think they mentioned the sister thing in 2..? That element really made the whole franchise confusing. I loved this latest one!
This sequel is so interesting! But it felts so draggy because it lacks the horror suspense
I would love to watch you recap the episodes of AHS that have aired. I dont mind that time has passed and even if it goes up right before the next episode airs or after I would still watch.
I’ve been waiting for this!!
Are you gonna review Suspiria?
I’ve been waiting for this for two weeks and I just wanted your opinion I hope you loved it as much as I did ( haven’t finished the video)
I had the same thought about the daughter being the new killer straight away; I think it’d be really interesting
I think you should do the combo review for American horror story episodes!! I still want to know what you think even after the fact :)
I wouldn't say she got over her fear but was more so driven by her fear more than anything.
Yeah, I'm the same way. When Michael killed the young boy, I was like "YESSSSS"
Until you said something about Allyson with the knife at the end it didn't quite click, but if you look back at the original, young Michael still has the knife in his hand after he kills Judith, which could have definitely been foreshadowing. IDK just what I see now..
Hope u feel better soon buddy
DAMN GIRL YOU LOOK AMAZING
I think the plot twist was intentional to purposely shut it down, saying we aren’t going down this road, we aren’t going to have a copycat killer. Not gonna lie though it had me worried when it happened but was greatly relieved when Michael killed him
i would still really like to hear your thoughts on ahs! so much has happened in the past few episodes and i really want to know how you feel about the murder house episode
