I'll explain Lydia's lack of confidence in men. While she might be a "preference" in the black market however in the Latino market she's not a preference hence why she seems to think she would never get picked because in her own community she's not.
hmmmm...very interesting. I guess preference is based on perspective. I view her dating possibilities through my perspective as a Black woman raised in the south, I KNOW what she is capable of pulling lol. But, like Milton said, perspective is reality, and since she has another reality as a Latina that might not be the preference, she may not know her real potential. I hope she learns quick because this is embarrassing!
Lydia is thick, light-skinned, with a loose curl. This was, and for many still is, the preferred standard of beauty, the industries standard of beauty. If it hadn’t been for Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2 I might have been one of these goofys too
I agree. Tbh i do not find her physically attractive but i know that Black men will think she's drop dead gorgeous because of her proximity to whiteness and her hair texture. Many BM are self hating colourists and i have a feeling that Uche is a colourist too. In the Latino community, Lydia is NOT a catch.

It was very refreshing to see Milton's family. That representation of Black Americans was so great to see. I loved it. I love how Netflix is showing robust representation of black people. We are not a monolith!

I support Stacy but not Johnnie. Their reasons for disliking Johnnie are completely different. Stacy stated that after Izzy didn't choose Johnnie, that Johnnie started bad mouthing Stacy in the women's quarters (which I believe is true since we SAW her bad mouth Izzy after he didn't choose her). Stacy was respectable during the pod process.. Johnnie was NOT. Izzy's reason was.... DUMB AND UNCALLED FOR. He is a masuclinA. And as he said, gets orgasmic pleasure (well maybe those are my words 🤣) from seeing Stacy Light into Johnnie. So Izzy is trash for that. Izzy has a LOT of growing up to do. He reminds me of someone I dated in my past.
Stacy only treated Johnie that way is because he was attracted to her and Stacy was picking up on his attraction that he is masquerading as disgust, immediately after him breaking up with Stacy he went making out with Johnie. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️😂😂

When Uche was finally able to talk about the situation, he told Aaliyah that Lydia is trustworthy. But then he changed his story and said that she was a stalker. At least one of these statements is a lie because they are contradictory. So we know already that he lied at least once. Then he told Aaliyah that they dated for 3 weeks in 2020. Later on, when Aaliyah confronted him he admitted that he actually did go back to date her again... and again .. for a total of 2 years on and off. So another lie from Uche right there. Then he accused Lydia of coming to the show to get back with him. Even if that were true, she left him alone after that first encounter in the pods and didn't go back to talk to him after that point. Meanwhile Uche has been trying to talk to her telling everybody about Lydia and bad-mouthing to her fiancé on 2-3 separate occasions, actively trying to ruin her new relationship. Finally he's happy to claim that Lydia was stalking girls that he followed on social media, but is real quick to hide the fact that she did that because he was cheating on her, not out of nowhere.
I think Lydia knows very well that she’s the preference but what has her so desperate is that she recognizes she can attract them but she can’t keep them. She acted confident among the ladies and didn’t seem to view them as her competition. I think that’s why she also played the game with Aaliyah because she didn’t see her as a real threat.
Lydia has problems listening and weaponises vulnerability she only cares about herself, believe it or not but men want women to listen to them and be emotionally available and not constantly take. Lydia only cares about herself and her drama

I disagree about the audience being hypocritical regarding Izzy being "turned on". Izzy already said "oh I RAILED Johnie" in reference to his first verbal assault of her, which is gross and likens it to SA. To then say "oh I got so turned on" when Stacy violates her is weird. Izzy s*xualizing his hatred for Johnie feels r*pey. He didn't just say "get her again!!; he gave imagery of r*pe culture. The language matters. If I saw my partner say that to an ex, I'd be concerned that he's not over her or that he'd act the same if we fell out. People called it out b/c the word choice felt GROSS.

I disagree that Lydia is in a position to pick better because she is the prize. Being the prize means men with self-esteem and many other issues need you to prove a point. Your dating pool is poisoned and the ones who try the hardest are the most damaged. She has become insecure and paranoid from being picked and treated disposably by the men who view her as the prize. You don't get those qualities in a partner just because of how you look. Did you see their reaction when she mentioned that her future prospects was landing her dream job, it was as if they were saying, 'at your age, that should've been ticked off your to do list already.' They also mentioned that Milton is pursuing a PhD so they aren't that impressed with a Masters Degree. Presumably her family pedigree would match her up better.
It's QUITE similar energy to old money white people. You can be prestigious but never prestigious enough. You have to know the politics of how to talk to them and sell yourself. Marriage is not about love to these families, it's about advancing the family name. It’s funny how everyone is still convinced Lydia is the crazy one here when Uche is the one who is showing up to functions trying to rehash the past and slander Lydia to everyone including trying to break up her and Milton. I got the same impression when she was head over heels with Izzy and meantime Izzy appeared kind lukewarm about their connection but she didn’t seem to realize this. She told him he was her number one and he didn’t say it back and she didn’t even seem to realize it. When he broke things off with her she seemed shocked. So I think she is just unaware about certain social cues. With Aaliyah she seemed relieved and giddy that the secret was out and she just blabbed on about different things she knows about Uche and didn’t seem to understand that Aaliyah didn’t want to hear about these things. But even if Lydia did do that out of pettiness it still doesn’t prove that she stalker Uche.

This was great! Really loved hearing your thoughts. I totally agree with your perspective on Lydia being on the show. I would add that she does know her position of “desirability” (she is very vocal about being Puerto Rican) as I think she knows how that plays in the dating market. Outside of her maybe coming onto the show because of Uche, I think her motivations could be just wanting to find someone that doesn’t just choose her because of her looks. Throughout the show she talks about wanting to find someone that wants her for her. In the dating world it could be that all she’s experienced are men using her superficially - which is totally believable.

This is the best review of this show I've seen this season. Interesting concept - "Black excellence is terrifying." I'd love for your to do a deep dive on this topic. Great points about Lydia and her market. She needs therapy and help because honestly it doesn't make sense that she is on LIB. I think Stacy has been in it from the jump to make money to pay for her a/c.

The best thing Netflix did was *not* editing her in. We don’t know how she would have been edited or what she would have said. Unlike the other “contestants” she gets to tell the story with her own spin and there’s nothing to challenge that. Imagine if Uche was never edited in, his stories about Lydia would be waaaay more plausible. Everyone loves Renee but that’s because we can imagine that the little we see of her is all of her which realistically it’s not. Unpopular opinion over and out!
Thank you for sharing your perspective about Black Excellence families. I'm from the Mid-Atlantic and have seen these families first hand within D.C, Philly, and New York. For these families, pedigree is so important, which is why Milton's family talked about marriage as a business agreement. These families also can trace their lineage to prominent black historical figures ( i.e. Dubois, founding members of Divine 9). These families do not want to be embarrassed or bring shame to their name. I'd love to hear your thoughts on "The Other ablack Girl".
They need to put some societally “unattractive” people in the pods; fat, disabled, non symmetrical faced, etc, so we can see if love really is blind. And they need to start discussing finances and more serious things while in the pods. Side note: I’d love to watch a queer love is blind like they did with the partner switching show on Netflix
I really didn’t understand Izzy’s need for closure with Lydia & Jhonnie. It’s like he was bothered to see them moved on and happy. He’s the one who picked someone else, so why is he bothered…. 🤔 It’s just so weird that he cares so much. I would care less about what they got going on, if I’m supposedly happy in my relationship. Also women that go for men like that (Uche) the self hating type black men, no matter how smart they are they often lacking self esteem and is often said to have some sort of psychological issue. There are actual studies done on bm and none bw coupling and why they don’t succeed 200% of the times. Something is usually very wrong with the none black women that seek out relationships with black. Lydia displayed a bit of her psychological here. Adell has came out about her having psychological issues. These unions are never from a pure and healthy space. They like feeling that they are better than aka they like feeling that they are atleast better than any bw in which most times bm tell them that as though that’s some kind of compliment. Lydia is a fine example that the preference doesn't necessarily get treated any better. They just have more opportunities to be picked.
I'll explain Lydia's lack of confidence in men. While she might be a "preference" in the black market however in the Latino market she's not a preference hence why she seems to think she would never get picked because in her own community she's not.
hmmmm...very interesting. I guess preference is based on perspective. I view her dating possibilities through my perspective as a Black woman raised in the south, I KNOW what she is capable of pulling lol. But, like Milton said, perspective is reality, and since she has another reality as a Latina that might not be the preference, she may not know her real potential. I hope she learns quick because this is embarrassing!
Lydia is thick, light-skinned, with a loose curl. This was, and for many still is, the preferred standard of beauty, the industries standard of beauty. If it hadn’t been for Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2 I might have been one of these goofys too
I agree. Tbh i do not find her physically attractive but i know that Black men will think she's drop dead gorgeous because of her proximity to whiteness and her hair texture. They may be miserable, but Johnnie did make shady comments about Izzy regretting it if he picked Stacy, and she also talked about his bad credit.
I support Stacy but not Johnnie. Their reasons for disliking Johnnie are completely different. Stacy stated that after Izzy didn't choose Johnnie, that Johnnie started bad mouthing Stacy in the women's quarters (which I believe is true since we SAW her bad mouth Izzy after he didn't choose her). Stacy was respectable during the pod process.. Johnnie was NOT.

When Uche was finally able to talk about the situation, he told Aaliyah that Lydia is trustworthy. But then he changed his story and said that she was a stalker. At least one of these statements is a lie because they are contradictory. So we know already that he lied at least once. Then he told Aaliyah that they dated for 3 weeks in 2020. Later on, when Aaliyah confronted him he admitted that he actually did go back to date her again... and again .. for a total of 2 years on and off. So another lie from Uche right there. Then he accused Lydia of coming to the show to get back with him. Even if that were true, she left him alone after that first encounter in the pods and didn't go back to talk to him after that point. Meanwhile Uche has been trying to talk to her telling everybody about Lydia and bad-mouthing to her fiancé on 2-3 separate occasions, actively trying to ruin her new relationship. Finally he's happy to claim that Lydia was stalking girls that he followed on social media, but is real quick to hide the fact that she did that because he was cheating on her, not out of nowhere.

I disagree about the audience being hypocritical regarding Izzy being "turned on". Izzy already said "oh I RAILED Johnie" in reference to his first verbal assault of her, which is gross and likens it to SA. To then say "oh I got so turned on" when Stacy violates her is weird. Izzy s*xualizing his hatred for Johnie feels r*pey. He didn't just say "get her again!!; he gave imagery of r*pe culture. The language matters. If I saw my partner say that to an ex, I'd be concerned that he's not over her or that he'd act the same if we fell out. People called it out b/c the word choice felt GROSS.

But I get what you're saying about about the Black Excellence being terrifying @20:43. Watching the mom and daughter grill Lydia like she was in a job interview was sooo tense.

It's QUITE similar energy to old money white people. You can be prestigious but never prestigious enough. You have to know the politics of how to talk to them and sell yourself. I got the same impression when she was head over heels with Izzy and meantime Izzy appeared kind lukewarm about their connection but she didn’t seem to realize this. She told him he was her number one and he didn’t say it back and she didn’t even seem to realize it. When he broke things off with her she seemed shocked. So I think she is just unaware about certain social cues.

This was great! Really loved hearing your thoughts. I totally agree with your perspective on Lydia being on the show. I would add that she does know her position of “desirability” (she is very vocal about being Puerto Rican) as I think she knows how that plays in the dating market. Outside of her maybe coming onto the show because of Uche, I think her motivations could be just wanting to find someone that doesn’t just choose her because of her looks. Throughout the show she talks about wanting to find someone that wants her for her. In the dating world it could be that all she’s experienced are men using her superficially - which is totally believable.

Thank you for sharing your perspective about Black Excellence families. I'm from the Mid-Atlantic and have seen these families first hand within D.C, Philly, and New York. For these families, pedigree is so important, which is why Milton's family talked about marriage as a business agreement. These families also can trace their lineage to prominent black historical figures ( i.e. Dubois, founding members of Divine 9). These families do not want to be embarrassed or bring shame to their name.

They will have to accept his decision. He behaves like that wealthy rich kid that purposely marry a someone that’s far out their family class just to spite their parents. He is very angry at his parents and he’s very passive about it.
Also don’t be fooled that Lydia don’t know her position. She knows damn well what her position is, just like we see how bm put none black women on a pedestal over black women, she see it too and that’s why she tends to date black. She knows all none black know that if all fails they can go into black community and get a guy.
The thing is the men in her community don’t like her which is why she gets with those type men that are the self hating black men that will make feel her like she is atleast better than any black woman. That feeds these type women ego cause they have very very low self esteem despite how smart they are. You need to understand that the men that choose women out of self hate and hide it under “preference” don’t even love themselves so they are not capable of loving anyone. So it would behove all women to run away from those type men that only like them for their light skinnedness because the relationship will not or ever last. Also women that go for men like that (Uche) the self hating type black men, no matter how smart they are they often lacking self esteem and is often said to have some sort of psychological issue. There are actual studies done on bm and none bw coupling and why they don’t succeed 200% of the times. Something is usually very wrong with the none black women that seek out relationships with black. Lydia displayed a bit of her psychological here. Adell has came out about her having psychological issues. These unions are never from a pure and healthy space. They like feeling that they are better than aka they like feeling that they are atleast better than any bw in which most times bm tell them that as though that’s some kind of compliment.
