- The Forgotten City reviewed by Gabriel Moss on PC, also coming to PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox.
Originally a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim back in 2015, this standalone remake from original developer Modern Storyteller does a great job taking the already fantastic adventure out of the Dwemer ruins while still exploring interesting moral quandaries through excellently written dialogue and characters.

Idk how you can or cannot "trust" a score. It's an opinion, not a fact.

The faces may be lifeless to an occasionally comical degree but isn't that perhaps the game just trying to remain TES accurate?
they are using the same program bethesda uses to animate faces since its what the team is familiar with hence the rather lifeless faces
It's also an indie title with a small budget, no one expects to see full motion captured facial animations.
Now we just need someone to mod Skyrim back into the Forgotten City. I'd play Skyrim in this engine
It's unreal engine, so a clear step up from the Creation engine that Bethesda use currently.

@@adamashworth6293 No, it's not. Unreal Engine isn't suited for large open-world RPGs with extreme levels of interactivity, something the Creation Engine was speciffically built for.

Every engine has its niche.
It's really impressive the small studio had the courage to tackle facial animations at that scale, rather than shying away by instead using animal characters, hand drawn or pixel art animations, or having the human characters taking up much less space in the camera's field of view.
Can't wait to play this, the original mod blew me away with the concept and the writing

Now this is REALLY impressive!! They had already did wonders when they made the mod for Skyrim, which must've taken an arm and a leg to create, but to think that they went out of there way to make their own independent game of it! That's genuine dedication right there. The world in this version looks so beautiful.

It was part of the original Skyrim mod. And when you hear it you know you done screwed up. At least that’s how it went in the mod.

The city is basically a home of missing Roman civilization and people spirited away like your protagonist. Do not steal or harm, lest everyone will be killed. The protagonist at least has the convenience to return back in time but the protagonist can't escape, and must find out how to escape.

amazing game, highly recommend it ! the 'canon ending' is the best, definitely make sure to get to it. Very much looking forward to what these devs have up their sleeve in the future
Agreed. It’s fun doing all 4 endings! The more you discover the more you can unlock
oh that's cool. If there's anything the Roman's loved it was Law. They werent known for sciences but they were constantly innovating laws to better manage a population of a monumental size historically without precedent.

It hits a few of the same beats apparently, but has many changes or refinements on the original mod and is a slightly different setting.

Apollo is both Greek and Roman, there has been no change of names from one culture to the other. And better Greek equivalent to Roman Phoebus would be Helios.

IGN gave Skyrim a 9.5 to put this game into comparison. This game also has about the same IGN score as The Witcher 3.
That Witcher doesn't deserve anything more than 6/10.
For an indie game, it deserves it's 9.
