This horror-themed card game might look like a Slay the Spire-style roguelike at first glance, but as with the developer Daniel Mullins Games' Pony Island, there's a lot more than to it than meets the eye.

This was genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. If you like card games you're in for a treat honestly.
Funnily enough I've seen quite a lot of people complain that they went in expecting a full roguelike card game and hate the "bait and switch" that was expected from a Mullins game.

An advice: DO NOT drop the game in the "second part", the game truly changes, but gets back to "normal" after it.
The second part is fun to play as well anyways.

Inscription is just awesome. It has an insane amount of twists and creative ideas. Even some boss fights are more creative than entire games. The amount of ways the game changes things up is astonishing.
Just give it a 10 already, also not mentioned in the review is the amazing art design of the pixel rendered graphics and the amazing sound design

The game also has a ton of replay value as well. Alternate decisions to make, new secrets to find, etc. Not to mention there was a massive ARG tied in with the game's deepest mystery. Fantastic in every field possible. Get it.
That is not even mentioning that when the game is loading and the command line is going. If you constantly press control + c you can type as if in a command line. Ive never seen that till Jesse Cox did that and makes me wonder what people are going to find in there!
Finding amazing combinations was so cool, beat Act 1 with squirrels that constantly returned to my hand upon death or sacrifice.
On top of that, finding things around the room that buffes your gameplay was awesome, like unlocking greater smokes and turning squirrels into bees.

Had card counting on my first squirrel totem. The game was too easy if you get to choose a card then ever placing a squirrel, just zero challenge

This was honestly the best way to do a review of this game
Some people didn't fancy the second and third act but for me, as a fan of video game in general, it's really interesting to see how Daniel Mullins were able to integrate different kind of style and incorporate them into the story.

@@smellypatel5272 you haven’t played it have you, Im 90% sure you watched a couple of reviews and made a decision off that. Not a bad thing but this is game of the year imo and of most who have actually played it.
Legitimately one of the best puzzle / strategy games I've ever played. Not just because of the really great card mechanics but also the dynamic flow of gameplay with story and puzzle elements is just amazing. Top that with the great, ominous theming and you have an amazing game.
Ohhh it's made by the Pony Island Dev. So expect the unexpected

@@SeekNeo it technically is a rogue like. It sends you back to the start when you die.
Although, the progress you make in the cabin and the death cards does stay, so it’s a ‘soft’ roguelike.

I've been browing indie games on gamepass that I just didn't want to pay for and possibly return after a few hours. I'm not quite a fan unless it's super up my alley and fun. However, this is an absolute gem and got addicted
Had a lot of fun playing this game. If you are a roguelike fan who likes plots with twists and turns this is the game for you!

The developer of Inscryption knew that most people bored of Cards Games, traditional or online
As a note there is a mod in development that males it an infinite rouglike.
Experienced it on the PS5. Dog have mercy! what a uniquely great game 🤯.

Started playing last night and I haven't been this quickly hooked since Skyrim.
The fact that The Cabin is only Act 1 of this game and the other Acts are nothing like the 1st is amazing, while still using the same mechanics you sre used too.

Jokes aside tho, the game is amazing, and I'm saying that from just seeing Markplier finishing it and not playing it myself.

I’m really bad at this game and have never gotten past the trapper boss fight but this is still a great game.

The second part is just painful
The second part slowed down a bit, but it became a collectable card game. Trying to collect them all was a short bit of fun
Dropped this game after act 1 few months back. Guess I will start off again
A lot of people will get burned by this game because of reviews like this. What the reviewer doesn't tell you is that only about 30% of the game is actually what is seen in this review. The rest of the game looks and plays completely differently.
It plays differently, but keeps the same mechanics and is fun throughout its entirety.

There is now a free and official mod that does exactly that.
This game is as boring as hell. You don't build card hands at all. Your choices are very limited. Having such few choices takes all the fun out of it. It's too linear, too much luck is involved and not much skill is needed. Good card games rely on levelling up skills with your deck building. But not here.
