I have an MS 391 that has been flawless for 10 years of firewood cutting and storm cleanup. Always starts, runs great. Just this last fall of '23 (Californian here, buying before the engine ban,) I bought a cs-620p as my 391's successor, should it ever die. The 391 isn't a pro saw and it certainly not built to the same standard as the Echo but it is comfortable and rips well in it's own right. I own 5 other Echo tools, some going back to the mid 70's, and the reliability and simplicity of them is beautiful to me. This 620p is so light and rips so much harder than the 391 for being ~5cc's lesser. Keep your computers out of my engines. Give me carb screws, a screwdriver and a good ear. Keep the 2 strokes roaring in the forest.
Loved my 562xp after first port and rebuild. But it needed it 2 more times so I bought a echo 620 for the simplicity of a everyday grab and use saw. Really like it so far. I haven’t used sthil in years and don’t miss any of them
I have had a CS4400 Echo for 25 years, live in Louisiana and use it seasonally or when we have a hurricane run through then it gets heavy use. First time this weekend it wouldn’t start, purchased a tune up kit for $23. Fired right up and I hope it will go for another 25! Great saws.
I bought Echo 620p last month with 20 bar and chain for less than 540 plus tax. Metal + simplicity = reliability. Be sure to use fuel stabilizer such as STABIL in the last tank filling before storage. It will be easy to start it even after months of storage. I used to clean the carbs of my lawn mowers and waste my time. After I started to use STABIL, they start from the first of second pull even when I use gasoline with Ethanol.
Brock. Nice comparison. I've always been a sthil guy. Prob always will be. Those saws, in my opinion, have everything I need. I am glad to see other brands making huge strides on their manufacturing.
Howdy Brock! I love the smell of 2 stroke exhaust and sawdust in the morning... 😁 Pretty cool breakdown of the 3 models. I have found chainsaws are like pick-up trucks. Everybody has their brand and they tend to be loyal. I have Stihls... probably because my dad had Stihls, and my grandpa had Stihls... they ran all day for decades. Gotta be careful now though... like many companies each has their cheaper 'prosumer' class of saws. So the name might be there, but the quality may not. Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠
Thank you for watching the video. It was a fun time and I tend to agree with you. Since I am not loyal to any brand and will own any of the brands, I have found from the comment section that people have had issues with each and every brand. They are all man made tools! Thanks you again!

We have several Echos, they are simple and very dependable. we have a couple non-X series saws that run with no problems though we now buy only X series. that's just what we chose to do knowing all Echo products are very good. we spend a little more for the X series. Personally, I've owned Sthill and still have a couple saws that run great, but the price was what I took into consideration. after buying the first Echo a few years ago for the business. it was a no brainer from a price point to go with Echo. That's just what we did. I know there's a lot of loyalty that goes into brands of whatever it is. Ford, chevy, dodge, Sthill, echo, Husqvarna, Nike, puma, wrangler, Levi's ect, ect, ect. Great comparison video fellas. Saving money buying the Echo could help buy PPE or a square ground chain. A good sharp chain on a well maintained 391 will cut faster than a dull 500i.

Have been contemplating Echo for a long time now. This video convinced me, for all the reasons given. I have owned and used both Stihl and Husqvarna for many years both for personal and professional use. The real turnoff now is the computer. Computers on a chainsaw? Who asked for that? Certainly wasn’t me. I will be buying my first Echo chainsaw tomorrow, the CS620.
Great job on the saw. One cut test like this isn’t necessarily conclusive. Joe told me he feels like it runs better the longer you run it. My 500I has a bark box on it, but I love the idea of learning more about chainsaw modifications, and hot rodding some of my saws
I have always thought that the Echo stuff takes getting good and hot before it is optimal. I would say that is the one major advantage of AutoTune/Mtronic. They pretty much stay at peak anywhere in the temperature swing. A few blips and the saw is about as good as it is going to get!
I’ve got both Husky and Stihl. The Stihl is the only one with an inboard clutch. But I prefer the balance of an outboard clutch. Lightish weight saw, with good power and 40mins. per tank. 500i used for med-large felling, greater than 20” dia. stems, a bit if milling and firewood. The only thing I dislike about the 500i, is weight and it drinks fuel, maybe 20mins. per tank.
The Echo is great for the weekend or light/medium use person and great bang for $. Would have liked to see the same size bar and same brand chain (Oregon or similar) new on each saw to make it a test of the power head. Kind of like tires on a car, you don't put mud tires on to run a drag race, just saying to make things equal.
They were all running the same size bar. I think they were all running the same type of chain. The bars were just different brands. Also, like I said, I wouldn’t make a couple seconds of cutting time be the main deciding factor for me
My same Echo has been great for all day cutting for months and months straight over the last 15 years, not simply just weekend homeowner as you attempt to categorize them being as much. The industry moving more towards them each and every year also dispels your fantasy.
I have Stihl and Echo. I went with the ECHO 620P as my large saw and have the MS-170 and MS-271. My smaller saws see most of the work since they are lighter, but the Echo comes out for the big projects.
Get a 3/8 pitch sprocket bar and chain for the 271 n it will impress the hell outta u. 20+ years in the business my boss taught me they try n tell u they don’t have 3/8 for 271. Just get the 3/8 sprocket it goes Rt on chains are cheaper n cut way faster no damn anti kick back homeowner safety crap. Trust me. It’s night and day difference and saves money in long run. I use Oregon bar n chains.
I can help answer this. We have similar lengths but different link and pitch sizes. More to come on this. The Stihl hadn't been started in months and it started great. The 562XP always starts easily especially when cold. When hot, they require a high speed idle and a pump of the fuel bulb depending on temperature. The Echo always starts 3-4 pulls but always starts more easily without the decomp
GREAT VIDEO Guys !!! Im needing to buy a bigger chainsaw for our Gun Glub. And we need one bigger than our Stihl MS250 . At least a 24 inch or 25 inch bar. I thouight we would get one with a 30 Inch bar but they are out of our price range. So Ive been surfing the internet looking on Ebay and Amazon and other places. As well as at ,Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply and our local Stihl dealer and Echo has been my choice. I also looked at a Stihl CLONE from China. I am so glad I watched you whole video. Im getting the ECHO you showed. THANK YOU for such a great video.I appreciate you both and subscribed
Of the name brand saw those are probably the best 3 to buy. I had one Craftsman ( bought new in 06 ) saw and it was really good and lasted a long time. I actually had used some bad mix gas and locked the saw up. Used wd40 and liquid wrench to free it up and used it up until I bought a bigger 18 inch Echo saw. My Echo is the 420 and has been a great saw never a problem with it. Had it since 2017. The worst saw i ever had was a Polan Pro 18 inch. Man that thing was great for about 4 cuts then would quit. Wouldn't idel on it own. I wouldn't recommend that saw to my worst enemy.
Hey brock back when I worked in logging only chainsaw they had at the time was McCullough homeligt and stihl your husqvarna was a racing saw they only used them at places like the Paul bunyan show cause they were such a high performance saw they were fast that husqvarna saw back in the day would kick the ass off that new husqvarna saw today lol
Well, the Husqvarna saws like the 272 and 372 are incredible as well as the 394/395. The only things is the 572 and 592 are more strong and lighter. Longevity, who knows? This 562 is only 60CC and runs VERY well
Spectacular video, Love this content!! Thank you to both you for your channels. Much prefer inboard clutches on rear handles, top handles like outboard. As for the chain tensioner styles seem yet to find any pro or cons to either as long as they are side clutch cover adjustable.
Hey Mark! Thanks for stopping on in here! Good to see ya buddy. This was a fun day for sure. I always appreciate your input and your knowledge. The next video is going to be awesome! Plus, I have some behind the scene footage of the ECHO cutting in larger wood. It will be coming out in the morning as well. See ya soon buddy! We gotta get cutting soon man!
Don’t worry I had a Stihl 362c-m and wasn’t impressed with it, probably on par with my muffler modded 590 but lighter so traded it to my dad since he liked the weight savings. Then went and bought a 562xp and dang that sucker is sweet
Great feedback! I think the 362 wins in the weight category but I have not heard anything compelling about it other than that. That is why I ended up with these two saws. Honestly, I have seen that the 562XP keeps up with a 400C in most cases too! Thanks for watching!
@@oakiewoodsmanjust depends what I’m doing I guess. I have the T540xp mark 3, 550xp, 572xp, 592xp, and waiting on the 562xp mark 2 to show up at dealer.
I prefer outboard clutches. I'm old school. Inboard makes more heat and plugs easier. I know how to fall timber so getting pinched I don't worry about it.i been faller forty years though😊
All those up cut cookies are excellent for the Sciatic nerves in your back. Work with gravity unless in the woods and really need to do a undercut to keep out of a pinch. Old cat mechanic!!!!!!!!!!!!! 62--I warned you all!!!!!!!!!!! good video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my country in Europe, the cheapest price for chainsaws is as follows: Husqvarna 562XPmark II= 983 Euros, Stihl MS391 = 805 Euros, Echo CS-621SX/45RV X series= 900 Euros.
Yep just like I always say. Husqvarna is the top of the food chain followed by echo. Stihl is 3rd and they almost feel like a Chinese knockoff of huskvarna. They blow up the carb easier. They don’t rip as hard. And they don’t start or run as smooth.
I like he vid but would have been more impress3ed if you had taken all the chains to a shop and had them all sharpened. Every motor there was good but I think the sharpness of the chains made quite a bit of difference! Alex
Brock for comparison how often do you use your saw and how many hours a day try spending eight hours a day I will stand behind a stihl anyday of the week
Everyone has a different need and purpose. New Stihl saws are not the same as the 044 and the 066 of yesterday. They are lightweight screaming computerized machines. They can and will have problems just like any of these. Thanks for watching!
Stihl saws are great unfortunately their prices are getting crazy so I bought an echo cs590 to try and I have no complaints it is a torque monster and with a $15 adapter you can run stihl bars
It could make a difference. Normally for chainsaw comparisons I get identical brand new chains. He brought the saws over and they had sharp chains on them, but they were not identical chains
Thanks for watching! We tried to keep it reasonable. It is my belief that chain differences account (when sharp) for marginal differences. These numbers were way different and I think they represent the saws well.
Can I ask a question? Did you have Stihl Pro saws? If so, why did you prefer the ECHO and Husky? Just asking for my own information. Thanks for watching!
@@oakiewoodsman yes, homeowner, farm/ranch and pro. Blowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers. Etc… their dealer network went to crap, only few dealers around my region.
@@kalebbillig3472Husqvarna is Swedish, they have plants in different places, like anything else, Stihl is German, Echo is Japanese. China makes some Knockoff Husqvarna Chainsaws
The Toyota 22r was wayyy overbuilt for the power it put out. It would run until it quit mainly because it didn’t have enough power (output) to kill itself. You can’t say that about a Ferrari, or Porsche. I can completely agree with your assessment of the Echo …and I’m a chainsaw snob. Out of them all I can completely agree with you about the detuned Echo. Same as above. They make the carb the way they do because they know most people will let the saw sit for long periods of time. And with its relatively narrow bore/ long stroke it has the torque to just back off a little wait a dang hot second and let the big bar eat. They are made out of super reliable parts and I can agree with the engineering of this saw as-is. I’d definitely say it’s a 22r Vs. Ferrari like the Husky. Stihl only dominates because it has 10x the dealer coverage. Given enough money Poulan could do that. That’s perception. Chainsaws are archaically cave-man simple machines it’s not like it’s hard. Its a deck that holds bearings with basically an internal combustion jet motor on top. They are so simply built it’s ridiculous to compare seat of the pants power and since you’re lucky to find ONE Husky dealer to TEN Stihl it’s ridiculous to compare the quality too. You can swing a dead cat and hit a Stihl tech. Try that in my area with a Husky. But I do love Husky lungs better though.
I can say the 22r is one hell of a engine. I had a old Toyota 4x4 and I couldn't kill the engine even running it wide open for hours in mud pits. Eventually it started using oil like crazy so I used heavy weight gear lube for oil and it still ran for almost a year like that then I sold it.
The Stihl 391 is NOT a home grade saw. It is a farm/ranch saw. Unlike most other saw brand companies that have 2 levels of saws (professional grade and homeowner grade) Stihl has 3 (homeowner grade, farm/ranch grade, and professional grade). And to do a proper annalist on those saws you should be using the same bar and chain. And since different saw companies use different mounts for the bar you would have to get a bar adapter for the saw to bar.
Farm and Ranch is a homeowner saw that is bigger cc. You can call it 17 categories if you want. It doesn’t have the pro features A good comparison is not something that requires the exact same bar and chain. Using the bar and chain that the manufacturer recommends is part of the difference between the saws.
I’m not an expert, but from what I’ve seen the stihl Pro saws are the best. It’s a lot of money, but if you have to think about how long you are going to have the saw
For the money, I believe the rancher saws do not make as much sense. Husqvarna Sells the 562XP and the 555. The 555 is the same with slightly different tuning, less money and the same magnesium cases. Plus, it is still 60CC. They are screaming saws and just came out with the MARK II version.
The 465 would have only been in comparison to the ms391. Yea it had 4.2hp vs 3.62hp the 460 rancher has but also gained almost 1# in weight. And all the ranchers are stratocharged clamshells.
I don’t speak for people. People do all kinds of things. I run stock saws except for the muffler on the 500. That change is because I want to reduce heat
I ran farm bosses for years the 362c is where it’s at for medium saws if you’re gonna get a stihl pony up little more cash and get a pro model you won’t regret it you made stihl look slow here when it’s by far the better saw I wouldn’t take fifty echos and huskys for even one my stihls
I understand you like Stihl Saws but the results are the results. It is common knowledge that the 362 is lighter than the 562XP and the 620 but slower. The 562XP keeps up with a 400C is most cases. The 462C and the 500i are incredible saws. Lets be real and acknowledge every tool has its purpose and place. Strengths and weaknesses
Jason, when you see the 500i video coming out tomorrow it is pretty impressive. It is really close between the ported 660 clone that I brought which is an absolute animal. What do you prefer?
This video makes absolutely no sense because I bought my new Husqvarna 572xp in a brand campaign for well under 800 dollars In Portugal depends on the country
Sir , you are incorrect. I have had to remove the power unit twice on my Husqvarna. The fuel injection etc , was a little odd at first , having no tuning option figured would be terrible. Kinda like when the evolution replaced the shovelhead though... After the bitching & moaning bout change, superiority showed up 😢 !
Not sure why you said you can't take the Sawhead off in a pinch with the Husqvarna? I did just yesterday. As long as the brake is disengaged you can. Also, I can't believe there are people that won't admit that Husqvarna is the G.O.A.T no doubt
Personally, I made no comment on that because I’ve never owned a Husqvarna but I can’t say that the majority of pros run stihl saws Not like 90% majority but like at least 60/40. Power to weight ratio.

Light saw and 40+mins. per tank.
550 used for small-med felling, up to 36-38” dia. stems, pre-charcoal prep. and firewood.
Also, like I said, I wouldn’t make a couple seconds of cutting time be the main deciding factor for me
The Echo had brand new EXL on it the 562XP had a well used hand filed C83. Results were somewhat interesting to me. I will be doing more testing!
It is an excellent and well loved saw out there in the firewood community! Thanks for watching!
Great video again Brock! Two questions…
We’re chains all new or similar use and type?
How were they all to start up?
I can help answer this. We have similar lengths but different link and pitch sizes. More to come on this. The Stihl hadn't been started in months and it started great. The 562XP always starts easily especially when cold. When hot, they require a high speed idle and a pump of the fuel bulb depending on temperature. The Echo always starts 3-4 pulls but always starts more easily without the decomp
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback!
What does the computer do on the saws that have them? And does the stihl 291 have a computer?
Good info!
Shindawa and echo saws , both from Japan are great saws.
Both under the same parent company.
Are you using new chains of the same type?
Hey brock did those saws all have new chains on them back when I worked in logging we paid like $300-$400 that was 40years ago
The ECHO brand new Oregon EXL, the Husky, well used and hand filed by me C83. I am decent on filing but still working on it
GREAT VIDEO Guys !!!
THANK YOU for such a great video.I appreciate you both and subscribed
is that a power mod running the " echo" on the bar upside down?
You should frequently flip your bar back-and-forth. Or upside down. Whatever you want to call it.
you want it to wear evenly on the top and bottom.
@@RockhillfarmYT thanks for the reply. I did not know/think of that. I recently purchased the echo 620. great comparison and good info
This 562 is only 60CC and runs VERY well
Whats the echo 620p
Spectacular video, Love this content!! Thank you to both you for your channels.
Much prefer inboard clutches on rear handles, top handles like outboard. As for the chain tensioner styles seem yet to find any pro or cons to either as long as they are side clutch cover adjustable.
Thanks. We have two more chainsaw videos that we recorded together in our scheduled to publish the next couple days.
Thanks for sharing
Great feedback! I think the 362 wins in the weight category but I have not heard anything compelling about it other than that. That is why I ended up with these two saws. Honestly, I have seen that the 562XP keeps up with a 400C in most cases too! Thanks for watching!
Hey brock you need to check out with sawing with sandy on his firewood bunker
Use to have stihls. Sold them and bought Husqvarna’s. Super happy with them!
Thanks for sharing. Do you have a favorite model?
@@oakiewoodsmanjust depends what I’m doing I guess. I have the T540xp mark 3, 550xp, 572xp, 592xp, and waiting on the 562xp mark 2 to show up at dealer.
I have 2 echo saws and a echo weedeater. I used to have stihl everything. Echo for the win. I love them.
Thanks for sharing
Husky rules .....the end !
Yep just like I always say. Husqvarna is the top of the food chain followed by echo. Stihl is 3rd and they almost feel like a Chinese knockoff of huskvarna. They blow up the carb easier. They don’t rip as hard. And they don’t start or run as smooth.
Alot Of Stihl fan boys will be spitting tacks at your comment 😂
I like he vid but would have been more impress3ed if you had taken all the chains to a shop and had them all sharpened. Every motor there was good but I think the sharpness of the chains made quite a bit of difference! Alex
I gave my Stihl away and like my Husky & Echo, which use the most, saws much more.
Worked with Stihl and Echo, Echo always performed better. Echo is the TOYOTA of outdoor equipment.
What about reviews on a craftsman 18 inch to other 18 inch in the same dollar areas. I know 8nes not getting the same qualities as this post
I love the simplicity of the echo. It seems to have more power than equivalent stihl or husky, although I have to say all 3 are quality machines.
Stihl saws are great unfortunately their prices are getting crazy so I bought an echo cs590 to try and I have no complaints it is a torque monster and with a $15 adapter you can run stihl bars
Excellent comment. Thank you for sharing! The cs-590 is amongst the best if not the best value out there!
Just super busy
Thanks for watching!
@@oakiewoodsman subscribed to ya
Watched both videos, seems to me cut time would change depending on what style chain being used.
Echo all the way - extremely reliable!!!!
Doesn’t the 562 weigh 13.5 Ibs?
Dunno. Mine feels lighter in the hands when running it. Thanks for watching
Echo sounds like it's had some work done to it . Never heard one Rev that high . I'm having one built now with all the mods.
Sold all my stihl and bought both echo and husky, both great. I favor Japanese built products, they are built to last.
Husky is a Chinese company and echo is a USA company so what Japanese products are you talking about?
@kalebbillig3472 The parent company is Japanese and so is the engine and parts.
@@kalebbillig3472Husqvarna is Swedish, they have plants in different places, like anything else, Stihl is German, Echo is Japanese. China makes some Knockoff Husqvarna Chainsaws
Is it just me? But 620 does not have an oil cap on the tank?
Also looks like your chains are filed for soft wood not hard wood.
I can’t believe that stihl is asking $700+ for a clamshell saw. I’d take the echo for nearly $100. Echo is some good bang for your buck l.
Agreed! Thanks for watching.
Put a 20” bar on the Stihl, and then compare…
25” too big, it’s slowing it down.
Clowns lol
Stihl=Chinese junk.
Nothing about maintainabilty?
600$ for 562xp? How is it possible for Husqvarna to ask for €1219 recommended price here in Europe?
I've never seen one for $600. $700-750 more like it. Hell you can't hardly find the echo for $600.
All I got for dealers around me is sthil and husky
Running Echo while my Stihls and Dolmars sit and collect dust. Echo are just simple, robust, reliable machines.
my stock 620p is faster than your ported one. I do not like stihl but the chain was not sharp on the 391 or 620.
Echo is best bang for the buck with most all their power tools!
Love my trimmers and saws. Thank you much for watching and sharing!
It doesn’t have the pro features
A good comparison is not something that requires the exact same bar and chain. Using the bar and chain that the manufacturer recommends is part of the difference between the saws.
I know you guys are all about how fast it cuts but reliable saw to me is more important
I’m really not all about how fast it cuts but it’s the only thing we can actually demonstrate right now on camera. We give opinions on reliability.
The echo had a real bad lean popping. Need to add some fuel on high side
Nah
Chain length makes a difference in speed . shorter bar is going to faster.
Yeah, I always use the same length bar on all of the saws when doing comparisons
Hey brock I don't care how much it cost they only make one good saw stihl
I’m not an expert, but from what I’ve seen the stihl Pro saws are the best. It’s a lot of money, but if you have to think about how long you are going to have the saw
I personally do not agree here but that is ok. The beauty of the internet is that we can all share our experiences. Thanks for watching!
Too bad husqvarna doesn't make the 465 rancher anymore, it had autotune in it too. Would have fit perfectly in a comparison like this
For the money, I believe the rancher saws do not make as much sense.
Thanks for the input! @@zeromark202
@@zeromark202 so are the stihl farmboss saws
Why can't people just run stock saws lol
I don’t speak for people. People do all kinds of things. I run stock saws except for the muffler on the 500.
That change is because I want to reduce heat
Americans love to hot up everything 😂
Never used the dogs on the echo that would have cut down on cut time
I ran farm bosses for years the 362c is where it’s at for medium saws if you’re gonna get a stihl pony up little more cash and get a pro model you won’t regret it you made stihl look slow here when it’s by far the better saw I wouldn’t take fifty echos and huskys for even one my stihls
@@oakiewoodsman and don't forget the price point of each versus your intended use
Thanks for commenting on this
@@T_Humphries
I will say it again I just was not impressed with that 500i. And I have a lot of stihl saws . From 70s to present small to large .
Did you run one yourself? What didn’t you like about it
I love mine. It has the power of a 660 but it is lighter than my 391
Jason, when you see the 500i video coming out tomorrow it is pretty impressive. It is really close between the ported 660 clone that I brought which is an absolute animal. What do you prefer?
This video makes absolutely no sense because
I bought my new Husqvarna 572xp in a brand campaign for well under 800 dollars
In Portugal
depends on the country

What year? And also please keep in mind it does make sense if your prices are lower on these items still.
In America, chainsaws are half the price cheaper than in Europe, and this is incomprehensible and stupid.
I hate out board clutch sprocket 🤮
Echo forever.
Blade is not right on the stihl
The blade is not right???
It had a sharp chain.
i call bullshit. have seen plenty of other videos where echo was hands down the winner.
I called BS. Show me a link comparing these exact same saws.
Not sure why you said you can't take the Sawhead off in a pinch with the Husqvarna? I did just yesterday. As long as the brake is disengaged you can.
Also, I can't believe there are people that won't admit that Husqvarna is the
G.O.A.T no doubt
Personally, I made no comment on that because I’ve never owned a Husqvarna but I can’t say that the majority of pros run stihl saws
Not like 90% majority but like at least 60/40. Power to weight ratio.
So the comparison was fixed. You used a saw that was not stck. The stihl you used a bigger bar and chain than stihl recommended so your test is bogus
