What's Up!! I ordered an Ibanez RGAR42MFMT on a whim to be a donor body for another project. This was actually a Musicians Friend Open Item. After further review this is actually a really decent guitar. As a matter of fact I don't know that I would find another guitar in that price range with these features.
Overview
If Ibanez can lay claim to the title of being the strongest name in Metal guitars, then the RGA is the model this reputation was built on. Every inch of this classic screams speed, fury, and expression.
The RGAR42MFMT features a mahogany body with stunning flamed maple top and the legendary thin, Wizard III maple neck, revered for both its playing comfort and unparalleled speed. A Maple fretboard and reversed headstock round out the visuals. Proprietary Quantum pickups for a focused, vintage meets modern, vibe and you’ve got a guitar that’s every inch a pure metal machine. Case sold separately.

What do you think? Do you dig the Ibanez RGAR42MFMT? How about the Seymour Duncans?
Damn I have one of these in my cart. Really on the fence.
1000% with Seymour's and hidden gem of a guitar from Ibanez.
Seymours help TONS! Wow. I picked up one off the wall at a shop yesterday and couldne believe how Great the fretwork was! Needed a new nut and pups but this video shows what ya can do with those two enhancements. Great playing
That neck pickup sounds awesome indeed!
I got guitar for some time,. Pick up change really helped.
Man I’m really digging that guitar !
Hey man dig your vids. I would love to see you do a kit build and review.
You mean like a partscaster build or something? I've been actually looking at building either a tele or a strat lately. I've wanted both but kind of want to take a swing at buying the parts and finishing the body myself.
Nice mod. Love the neck pickup sound! I noticed that the neck pickup adjustable pole pieces are upsidedown, any reason?
Hi. Loved the video. I wanted to ask though, do you happen to know about how heavy S Duncan JB & Jazz can get. Can it djent?
I love my Dragon eye burst RGAR42mfmt. Just a great guitar, and a great value. I might replace the tremolo with a Schaller, or a Floyd Rose pro if the Ibanez DL trem dies. I don't want to modify the cavity or post holes and those two seem to be the front runners ( still have to do more measuring though). Let us know if you replace or mod your trem.
Cool stuff, guitar sounds really good, has TONE no doubt. Looks clean, a good deal, nice presentation as well.
Thank you!!!!
399 now at GC. Awesome video. This guitar was awesome right off the wall. I even dug the stock pickups.
It's a great guitar!
I have the purple non-trem one and put in white DiMarzio Evolution pickups in them. I went with white Fender volume & tone knobs and Gotoh locking tuners with white pearloid buttons. The purple ones are discontinued and hard to find…but I have 2.
I bought it in 2021 and bridge pickup is very good, neck is expected in price range. But good for money. Not changing pick ups have more guitars.
What are you running the guitar into ? Sounds awesome
Do you know if this guitar uses the standard floyd rose footprint or if it uses the edge footprint for the bridge? Strongly considering buying but if the bridge upgradability is limited, might go with the hardtail and just deal with the weird fretboard wood
Sounds great and looks great man
Thank You!
How you get neck without rosewood? Just floyd rose models or because its american market?
Hey gearzombie-I got this exact same model-I call it the “Blue Lagoon,“ and I love it, it’s my first “shredder” guitar, and I bought it at Guitar Center for $349 +tax, which I considered a damn good deal. I love that you give us a good follow-up review after your first one, and you show us what it sounds like after your modifications. I will eventually try to do the same mods-although I am really surprised you didn’t replace the slightly unstable Floyd-Rose-or did I miss something? Irregardless, I thank you for the review, and ultimately vindication of my shredder choice. I also bought the Jackson 34sq Dinky in the same price range, and it seems highly comparable. I’m curious how you would compare it to a Jackson. Although I bought my Lagoon in Aug of 2020, it was made in 2018. They probably lowered the price from $499 when I was looking cuz they had to move inventory. You play great, so rock on!
So I really haven't had must trouble with the stability. That being said I dont hammer on the trem much. But really it's been pretty much set it and forget it.
you deff just sold me on this guitar hahaha i was on the fence but ive watched other videos and most people say vaule for dollar you cannot beat it. in canada its sellin for 579$
I love mine. I wasn't a big fan of the pickups but some are. Either way, even with the cost of the pickup swap this guitar is a monster!!
What you think of Jem Jr?
Any wrist pain?
Just bought a tiger eye..
Was gonna turn it but im inclined to drop some mo better pups..and keep it
What a nice sound
Thank you!!!!
I just bought this on reverb (dragon tho) for 300 bux shipped I should have it tomarrow or Tuesday
I hope you dig it!! I still love mine!
Is this essentially a rga42fm with floyd rose trem?
Yep. It's not an actual floyd but yes floating trem.
Could I put Seymour Duncan black winters in my Ibanez rga42fm?
I don't see why not!
My only question about this guitar is how's the fretboard feel in terms of playability?
Sorry for the delayed reply. No BS, it's one of my favorite guitars. I love the neck.
Did you have to change the pots to fit those white speed knobs?
Nope, original pots.
@@GearZombie good to know thanks!!
I know I'm 2 years late, but what were you playing at 8:23? It's fucking beautiful and I wanna learn it lmao
Nothing special, just noodling!
2 questions...Can this guitar be shipped to India? And also are they still producing the transparent purple burst?
Available on bajaao
@@dragzZ_Zz nope, this one isn't available, the one that is available is RGA42FM, which is somewhat similar...and this model he is demoing is RGAR42MFMT
@@markoadhikari8071 its the same one
$499 for all of them now
All 600$ + here in canada
Fu tone might make white bridges
which country made this guitar.
Indonesia I believe.
Cerakote!!
400 used? Cuz they're 500 everywhere
I feel like putting. $100 pickups x2 and saying it’s a sub $400 guitar is cheating
I know right, how dare anyone make a personal choice on the pickups they put in a guitar. Ohh the humanity.....
