Yeah, never saw him on anything but on a set of black recording customs. I bought the same set in 1983--just to be just like him! :) White or black or striped, he's insanely great.
LOVE his drums/drum sound in this vid. Those early-80s thinner shell R.C. with the 'fusion shell pack' tom sizes--10, 12, 13, 14. Sounds so good. Same sizes as Vinnie in Zildjian Day NY.
Something about Gadd’s drumming - it’s not his technique, his speed - his timing, his command of rudiments, his swing, although these are all exemplary. What makes Gadd’s drumming stand out from the rest is his TASTE.
Ladies and gentlemen That is a Yamaha Pre Yes Recording De rum Set and Gadd Knocks this out of the park I Have this same set and Now in Yes Series which I have to say sounds even more focused just as great as ever Yeah Baby these cats are SMOKIN
Steve Gadd reigns as the King of fuck, whereas Buddy Rich the king of Swing. Unbelievable chops! I will put him in the category of Buddy in a heartbeat. Both have two different styles of playing which is obvious; because Buddy came out of the big band era of Miller, Duke, and Basie and others, but Steve in comparison to Buddy is more of a modern drummer (not taking anything away from Buddy in saying this). When coming up as a beginner Drummer, Buddy was my only main source of inspiration until I heard of Steve. Do anyone agree with my assessment of these great drummers?
Steve Gadd is the Man! One of my all time favourite drummers
This has to be my first time iv ever seen my favourite drummer on a white set of drums..amazing as always.
Doesn't he use Recording Custom drums ?
Paul Yes. Historically a black set.

such an amazing drummer
THIS MAN IS INCREDIBLE,\THANKS STEVE
I love so much those "Recordng Custom" drum sounds!!
It's not the kit that makes a drummer great. It's the great drummer playing the kit. Gadd could play pots and pans and sound great!
So THIS is the definition of facility around the kit?! Amazing!!
Red white black blue green yellow or rainbow, there has never been, and may never be a more funky drummer.
I love when he catches the cymbal and finishes the whole phrase with his right hand. Still sounded like he was using both hands.
Steve Gadd is from my hometown...I bet he feels PRETTY-GOOD about that!(maybe I got that backwards:)
great drummer.

Tad McCully Hmm I thought tgey sounded especially great also. I never knew they made a thinner shell and I am a gear head, interesting.
Thanks...:-) also helps that I own this kit--in black. SO warm and beautiful...
@John Galt Dough Prefer the sound of black drums over white...
one of the greats !!!! icon!!!!
Beautiful indeed. Musical and clean as a whistle.

I love coming to TH-cam to watch Mr Gadd, and rip off his chops, that is, if i can do them without fucking up.. ;)
Same shit since 1970!!!!!
Tight band, but sorry whenever anyone stops for a drum solo no new ground is broken.
