Steve Gadd. Giving me goosebumps since the 70s. Like Jeff Beck, Steve Gadd is uncopyable. Allot of people can do his rudiments but I’ve never heard anyone capture his feel. What a gift to drummers like myself who’ve been studying to be better for nearly 40 years.
Too bad this was so poorly recorded because if it was close Miked you could really hear his articulation which is lost in this but this particular rudimental piece is incredible with him doing it. There there are some older videos out there I've seen in the past of him doing it where you could really hear it recorded better and his articulation is incomparable, especially when he moves back and forth from the hi-hat doing this type of thing it is mesmerizing, funky and truly badass.
