    At 0:33, I say, "It records in H.264 resolution." H.264 is an encoding and does not imply any particular resolution. I intended to say, "H.264 encoding, higher resolution," but while I was sputtering off the list of new features, I dropped those words. Hopefully no confusion will result from this mistake.

    It's not that fatshark goggles are overpriced. It's that ALL googles are overpriced.
    There's no reasons why a pair of small low res displays in a cheap plastic shell should cost the same as a PS4 pro, Mid spec'd laptop, 50" 4K TV, etc...
    Even the most high end Fatshark goggles should cost more like $199. I'm sure they would still make a healthy profit of what probably costs $20 to manufacture in China.

      @Recreational Plutonium Yeah you're right. I realized after I posted this that there's a lot more to it. After I watched the interview with the guys at Orqa really.

      You see. You obviously know nothing about marketing and economy. Have you ever heard term "market demand"or "target group"? Don't compare two totally different products from two extremely different markets. I assure you that when nearly 100% of population in the first world will own an FPV googles (vide your comparison to TVs) those things will cost 5 times less. Not to mention evolution of the product itself. Naturally this will never happen so don't count on price drops of FPV equipment anytime soon.

  • @nathan1sixteen
    @nathan1sixteen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Josh, not nitpicking here, but was wondering if your FPV camera setting were stick of if you changed them. If they're stock, then this doesn't apply as much, but if not then the fact that the image isn't as clear may be due to you tuning them to an LCD screen (like that in Fatahark and Aomway, etc) and not for the LCoS in the Eachines. Even if your setting are stick, Foxeer/Runcam probably set them up for LCD as well, so changing settings a little on the camera may fix the picture quality issue.
    Also, why couldn't you use a LaForge module? Everyone keep saying that, but aren't both modules removable? If so, just take both out, run the cable outside, and you're good to go. I don't see why that couldn't be done, but maybe I'm missing something (as I don't own either a LaForge or the EV200Ds)
    Other than that, like always, I love your review Josh and can't wait to see the range testing!
    P.S. showing screen quality on camera is just overall a bad idea. Refresh rates of the screen and the FPS of the camera tend to portray the picture quite poorly.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LaForge would fit into the goggle but you couldn't use quadversity. That's what I meant.
      Image being tuned for LOCS? That's not what I mean when criticizing the image quality. I mean the fact that the screens are not well matched to the optics so it's difficult to see the entire screen in both eyes at the same time.

    • @FunTechandMore
      @FunTechandMore 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok but it definitely sounded that the picture was also a problem in quality especially compared to the VGA of the attitude. You definitely have to tune the stock settings in the goggles themself and the camera as well. I wonder what the max picture quality would be that you get when this is done. Like brightness colors and so on.

    During the battery talk you made it sound like Eachine is copying the USB charging from FatShark. I believe it’s actually the other way around. The first battery I am aware of that did had that feature was the battery that came with the Eachine EV100 goggles. It was smaller but I still use that battery with a lot of my goggles.

      USB charging a battery, is that unique to a manufacturer. It would be nice if the battery had a proper balance lead so you could charge it faster. USB charging can take more time depending on charger rating i.e. charging at less then 1c

    As someone considering a purchase these days I really appreciate an unbiased opinion on this. Having recently seen you do a really indepth and useful interview with fatsharks lead guy I was apprehensive about this video being impartial, but I think this is exactly what the consumer needs and expects, impartial assessment comparing like-for-like. If the new guys don't measure up, then fine, at least we know we're safe with our fat shark purchases, but it is to the net gain of FPV as a whole that products be assessed against their peers price-wise. After all, clearly we could all buy better with unlimited purse strings, but as someone balancing a budget like the rest of us, this kind of assessment is crucial.
    On the whole, not sure, but I am really grateful that this kind of in depth investigation is out there.
    Thankyou Josh

    yeah i'm looking to get some goggles for my 1st drone experience. but not wanting to spend $400-500 on them, and i don't want box goggles. which is what brought me to this video. watched your's and a few others, review on the ev100. i'm still in debate with the ev100 for my 1st goggles. price is a big part for my first fpv drone set up. i don't want to spend too much at first. but i also want something that isn't bound to one kit like the tinyhawk kit. seems, i need to spend about $1000 minimum just to even get started with anything decent. and at that point, i might as well just get the DJI FPV drone kit for $1300.

  • @FunTechandMore
    @FunTechandMore 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A few things it's not like fatshark came with the USB on the batteries. It was Eachine with the ev100 so you have to say like the ev100. Your impression of the screen comes fork the different screen technology you are used to LCDs and this is a lcos. The resulttion is way better than the attitude. So for sure picture is sharper on it. Both have plastic optics. They polarized the optics as well to get off the problems that the fx7 v1 had. That might be why you see more fingerprints but I mean normally you don't touch the screen as it will have fingerprints. Looking forward to your review of your modules. Please also check using two LaForge modules or two true d or so instead of the stock modules from what I know they are the only ones that sync up to be used with quadversity. A recommendation to Eachine from you would be to make an option that ships with the Eachine pro 58 modules. As with Achilles these would be a killer and probably better than the stock ones. Can you check how much you can see of the screen with the faceplate off. Eachine said they are making different faceplates with bigger cutouts to view the full screen better for the production model. How do you like the fov? Nice review keep it up. Compare the reception of the modules to the Eachine pro 58 modules with Achilles please. Not worth it to compare a module that's 90 bucks or more. Thanks a lot

    Interesting fpv googles and i wonder how good multi diversity for the range and stability of fpv signal reception.
    I will be waiting for your review about it Josh.
    As beginner in this hobby i still learn to fly with micro quad/tinywhoop to improve my flying skills.
    Concerning fpv goggles ... i think ridiculous if it more expensive than my micro quad/tinywhoop so i decide to use Eachine EV800D googles and i'm happy with it.
    I will consider to get another (better) fpv googles when my quad more expensive than it :)

  • @JerR22

    I purchased these and believe I've figured out the blur problem (for me at least). It's all about face geometry and your eyes. These googles did not live up to my expectations at all...
    I get intense blurring at the top of the screen- sometimes to the point where the channel information is completely doubled/unreadable. I also cannot see the battery indicator with one eye, so it appears as if the IPD adjustment is off, even though it's the 'best' I can get it... The only way to make it clear, is to adjust them to the point where I cannot see the bottom of the screen, and the straps will not hold them in at any angle where all of the screens are visible, and clear. The optic windows are TOO SMALL for my eyes. I suppose I have a fairly large face, or more deeply inset eyes than most. If I push the goggles insanely close to my face with no pad installed, they *almost* work.
    In case anyone's wondering, I also have an oculus rift, so I'm somewhat familiar with IPD adjustment, and having screens close to my face and getting them adjusted properly for *maximum* clarity. I realize they're not going to be 'perfect' or 'crystal clear', but these goggles are so bad for me, my eyes can't even focus on my OSD and there is no sweet spot. I even tried the -2 diopters as had been suggested on a forum, but these cause my vision to constantly refocus, as I don't require glasses. There went another 20 bucks down the drain...
    IF YOU'RE GOING TO BUY THESE, TRY TO TEST THEM OUT FIRST... I know how insanely hard that can be, but after dropping about 300 dollars on them, that is the best recommendation I can make.
    I'm currently working with banggood for a refund... I'll do my best to update this when I receive word back (If I haven't updated this by mid-october 2019, hit reply so I get a notification and I'll do my best to update the situation). Even though I'm coming from E-Max's (horrifyingly terrible) TinyHawk RTF goggles- I just cannot accept paying as much as I did for these with these design flaws inherent for my facial geometry.

    Yesterday afternoon and after a year, I went out to pilot the GX210 5 inches, and with EV200D glasses. I only have in the glasses a receiver installed with 2 antennas, a pagoda and a patch. In one of the passes, I carried the drone behind me and about 50 meters away, I lost the signal and went to the ground. Soft, low-lying soil. There was no damage.
    Would it be better to connect the other receiver and place more antennas ??

    When reviewing the RF section of the goggles, can you please let us know about the quad diversity of 200D? My understanding is that these goggles can work with two Eachine diversity receivers (quad diversity). Now, if the original Eachine receivers as not present (which is set A), can we install two diversity receivers or only one? Moreover, if I'd buy a set B, can I remove one of the Eachine receivers and replace with a True D for instance? Would this still be a quad diversity? WIth a receiver, there is no danger in having antennas removed. Only with devices that transmit, which goggles don't do.

  • @Kiwin412
    @Kiwin412 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the view you showed of HD2 what you actually see in the goggles ? Because I see absolutely no blurry edges. That's what drives me towards Commander v2 instead of a pair of used HD2 (or T2) as I think I will love high FOV coming from box style for a year and a half now and I unfortunately can't try any goggles in my region and don't want to go wrong...
    By the way you you rather recommend the HD3 core or the T2 (if they are very similar to the HD2) as they are the same price ? Thank you :)

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The HD2 has no blurry edges if your eye is PERFECTLY positioned. Just in real life few people's eyes are perfectly positioned.

    • @Kiwin412
      @Kiwin412 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      By perfectly positionned you mean in distance from the lenses, not in the right-left direction ? That's a matter of foam thickness then ? If it is always possible to get a perfectly clear image with the HD2 by doing some tweaks you would have solved dozens of hours of fear of buying a pair of goggles that would be blurry.

    Can somebody explain to me how to record with DVR? Its not working for me. I put the microSD card in the googles, power them on, then press around 10 sec to get into the REC Menu and then i press DVR button for 1 second and after my flight i also press the DVR button to stop the recording. But then there is no recording showing when i want to watch it on the googles. Even on my pc it says the microSD card is empty? Any tips or did I do something wrong?

    I am currently using the Skyzone 02S V+ goggles and I have some quad mounting their scam302 3D camera and STX202 stereo VTX.
    Is it possible to set the receivers to get the 3D effect as with the Skyzone goggles? (one freq for the Left display and another freq for the Right one)?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im pretty sure the skyzone has only a single channel receiver. It can receive side by side or interlaced 3d but not 2 channel.

      If the PC resolution is too high, the goggle HDMI input may not accept it. Try reducing resolution to 800x600 or even 640x480 maybe.

    the resize issue is addressed by turning the quad/camera on before the goggles so it can adjust properly. i've occasionally seen this on my dom v3's (true-D) and I know I've seen it on the eachine dvr module too (at least the black plug n play one). I suspect with the doms its really because on some quads I might have pal or ntsc selected and others auto (depending on camera and my laziness).

    Dear Joshua, please throw a run cam sparrow and a basic vtx together on a board or something so you can properly review 16:9 goggles without (only) complaining about how bad they look with 4:3 cameras. Sure, many people run 4:3 cameras. But I don't! :D. I use the sparrow, and the runcam split with my skyzone goggles. All 16:9. I love the view! Anyway. Thanks for another great video. Keep up the good work!

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The things that are wrong with them have nothing to do with whether the camera is 16:9 or 4:3. I can view the 4:3 image stretched to 16:9 and see the same thing as I would see if I were looking at a 16:9 camera. I can tell what is the effect of the stretched image and what is an innate characteristic of the goggle.

    • @jonnyphenomenon
      @jonnyphenomenon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joshua Bardwell I suppose I'm willing to take your word for it. I brought it up because in my experience, my native 16:9 goggles (skyzone v+) work perfectly with my native 16:9 cameras, but might be a little off when I watch a feed from a 4:3 camera... So when I watch your video commentary about various goggles I find myself wishing you would connect them to one of the cameras I use. If I've read you right, you prefer the 4:3. Honestly, I MIGHT have preferred that aspect ratio, but I got my skyzone's on sale, so I'm committed :) -you know, maybe that could be a subject for a future video? "Best 16:9 cameras and goggles" -what do you think?

    Great video. I hope they address some of the issues you captured. On a side note...I recently picked up HD3s (upgraded from DomV3s) and mine aren't nearly as sharp at the corners as yours. I figured it's my vision..I play with the IPD to center the sweet spot but I certainly can't get it sharp to the edges. Could they befective?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more likely your eyes than the goggles. Also the camera doesn't represent 100% perfectly what the eye sees.

  • @flyfisherfpv5446

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The display device doesn't know whether the camera intends to show a 16:9 or 4:3 image. It's just an NTSC signal.

My problem is my IPD is 57mm, which is too narrow for Fat Sharks, so I was exited about the 56+mm range of the EV200D. The Headplay's are wonderful image, but really suck to travel with. Any recommendations for my narrow IPD issue?

    One question. I'm not an FPV Racer but would like the experience of FPV in a more cinematic role. I have a Mavic Pro which I would like to set up with FPV goggles for vacation videos. I'm so confused about the transmitters, and or modules and antennaes that I don't know if I even want the goggles. From the videos I've watched all I see is pixelated images and broken video that I wonder if it's worth all the hassel especially if I want undistorted images. Is there a pair of goggles that will not have signal loss and can I fly out to a distance of a mile with the goggles without losing my drone.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mavic cannot transmit to analog FPV style goggles. You would need the Goggles RE from DJI. If you seriously want a set, I actually have one that I'm thinking about selling. Email me joshuabardwell@gmail.com if you're interested.

      RapidFire is not guaranteed to work with EV200D. They may not be compatible because of the EV200D quadversity feature.

    Great review mate, bit perplexed over the long wait for them to be publicly available.
    Ended up buying HD3 new from HobbyKing for $550AUD, because I couldn't wait for these. Then saw a goggles drone package second hand on Facebook marketplace, with the rare HD2 as the goggles. I negotiated seller into selling me the goggles only, for $350AUD. This was before the TerminatorsHD2 release. Still very happy to have a daily HD2, and use HD3 on the weekends. I don't race, just fly for pleasure.
    Did look at HDO, but couldn't justify the price. As I have 2x sets for almost the same price as HDO.
    Also a firm believer of having a spare of everything.haha
    Great to see that EV200D are out, well almost.
    Will look forward to your range testing video.

    Hi Joshua
    I like your vid's 😎.
    My question for you is this.
    I have the ev200d for 1 year now but have not used it more than 30 times. The battery that came with it did not last for 3 flights in total, so defective. Meanwhile I used the micro USB plug.
    But now it doesn't work anymore I get a black screen. I tried it with a power supply DC plug and still nothing. I noticed that the diversity modules has not lights when I plug the battery or DC power supply. Any idea what it could be. Because banggood isn't any helpful at all. Customer service is useless and does not comply in any way.
    Any advice from you.
