i have been working on my swing for 4 years changed everything, clubs 3 times , swing, grips stance etc. etc. watched this video went to range and almost right away i was hitting the ball way more consistently and straighter then ever before. With my usual swing i don't properly pivot or use my lower body much so the Moe swing works wonders for me. Thanks Todd wished i watched this video 4 years ago.
Todd, when you dig into the biophysics of Moe’s swing it really is amazing how the integrated elements all combine to create a stunningly simple and repeatable swing. Even more incredible is how Moe figured it out without video replays and analysis. Great stuff! Harry
Thanks Todd, Truly Excellent! I was reviewing my 1998 Natural Golf instruction Book and reflected on how your training and understanding of Moe has transformed your students. Thanks for your dedication, Moe would be proud!
In his bio there was a story about Moe on the range. Someone asked to hit his club. The broke his tee and Moe said it was his favorite and that he had it for years.
Excellent brief lesson...key message for most is the grip is 'neutral' to the clubface. This in combination with the tilt is truly priceless! Thanks Todd
Awesome Todd. I’ve waited for years to see a video directly relating spine tilt to face angle at impact. Noticed this relationship a while ago and use it to square up a draw without it hooking but also exaggerated with hands a bit forward to create a reliable fade.
What you said really makes a lot of sense. I've always been amazed at how great players square the club so accurately at impact. As an example, how down and under the trail arm is on the downswing. But, then in an instant, boom! The club face squares up. If there is a secret to the golf swing, this is it.
love moe. best ball striker ever. his swing when he was younger was really something to see. this idea really seems that the body squares the face at impact. am i correct in assuming that? from set up it's just a turn and reverse the turn. arms, hands, club all follow what the body does.
Great video . In fact I think its one of the greatest videos you have ever done . What a great explanation . I saw Bryson talking about some thing like this too .
Now that's some advanced bio-mechanics right there. Keeping the upper arm rotated inward throughout the swing is going to take some serious practice for most people. Cool stuff.
I find when I use The Moe Swing and I hit it good with my driver it's the best feeling hit of all the swings I've tried. The Feeling of Greatness. The driver hits a consistently good height with a penetrating flight that doesn't float or balloon. I have trouble hooking the ball - probably because I straighten up and don't stay in my tilt long enough. When I do hit a driver with The Feeling of Greatness (and it really does feel great) it feels like the ball is going to draw, but it doesn't. On the best drives it looks kind of like the ball tumbles at its apex and moves a yard or two left and carries strong. It really is a beautiful flight to watch.
Hi Todd, I haven't posted a reply on TH-cam in years. But your content here is so incredibly helpful and well done, I'm subscribing, and my 12 year old golf fanatic son and I will be looking forward to learning more from you! Thank you!
Todd... Correct me if I'm wrong, but seems the key is to maintain as much of the upper lead arm close to the chest as possible from P2 through P3 then trying to limit any release of that feeling to impact. Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe I'm "Moe-speaking" and you can explain what I'm thinking more articulately.
I have been watching your videos for a while now and am trying some of your methods. I play a decent game single digit handicap but have been loosing power with my driver. I have been having some success with the single plain swing and seem to be getting more power. Just a quick question I have watched Moe swing and hit balls for a long time but it’s hard to find videos that actually show ball flight and distance. Did Moe hit it long or was it just straight?. Just curious.
@@bufenuf642 no. He didn’t . Spent 10 years with him practicing. Watched him in person - for hours. Never held club in palm or in life line when he played his tournament golf. Never.
I don’t have issues with toe or heal. I hit too high in the face, my divot starts after ball contact but still too early. I thinks it’s a timing issue, probably caused by false balance. 😅 I have no confidence in my swing and I’ve stopped golfing completely. Hope this helps me.
have you considered coaching and having experts look at your swing motion to give you feedback, analysis and solutions? if so email me at toddg@gravesgolf.com
Looks like his left hand is showing a ton of knuckles, certainly doesn’t look weak or even neutral and his right is strong too. Internal shoulder rotation seems to be the key move, but what do I know😮
Maybe i missed it, but in order to execute this swing by Moe Norman, not letting the toe be alive, does it require a lot of upper body rotation? Like the modern players who maintain a bowed wrist? They square the club through rotation, yeah?
The goal is to have the lead forearm reach max range with square club face. This requires torso rotation (but all players have torso rotation at impact). The key is to have the ideal tilt so you can rotate the forearm to the max range (square face) for consistency.
@@ToddGravesGolf thanks for responding. Just one more...when I tilt has much as you demonstrate with an iron, I struggle hitting ground before ball. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Bryson talks about his Left arm a lot. Tries to set that upper left arm just as you describe. Still hits some left, though. Gets in trouble w left shots from time to time (See #15 at Augusta.)
in the close up of Moes grip can you explain how that is considered neutral? and how some people think its weak? for me it looks strong. maybe its just because its an old camera but it looks like back of his hand is pointed more at the camera not the target
You have to look at how the club aligns with the arm and how the face angle moves. The back of the lead hand aligns with the Club face. This is what is important. Camera angle can be deceiving in this regard. Watch the face at the top of the swing and in the downswing to get a good idea of how the hand is positioned relative to the face angle. This is a good way to understand the lead hand position.
@@ToddGravesGolf okay! i will take a closer look. I've never really compared face and hand through the swing. just hand at address. thats a good recommendation. Thanks!
Hi Todd, I love your videos. I just have a question. Would you say you lead your downswing with the lower body, or it syncs with upper body, or is intentionally restricted a bit? Thanks John

Because Nobody dominates tournament golf. And if you look at Moe's record, when he competed, he won 1 of every 3 events he played. So in a way, he did dominate golf in his era.
Obviously as stated at the beginning of the video ' never let it go left ' Mo like Hogan clearly wants to avoid hooking the ball so he is bound to not want the feeling of the clubhead closing through impact. Like Hogan, Trevino etc he wants an anti hook movement. Most everyday golfers don't hook the ball so don't need an anti hook swing ?
@@ToddGravesGolf absolutely. I saw this is what Bryson does as well on his grip. Internally rotates his whole arm then opens his forearm back up and grips the club
Not everyone is made for high pressure public performance. Leopold Godowsky was acclaimed the greatest pianist of his generation but suffered from stage fright and mainly taught for income. How many holes-in-one and course records do you have?
Baseball grip has the thumb to the side of the club. Moe never did that. What you are referring to is a 10-finger grip. Here are the facts. Moe used an overlapping grip for a majority of his life and career. He won every amateur and professional tournament with an overlapping grip. You can see it clearly in this picture www.thefeelingofgreatness.com. The overlapping grip unifies the wrists and places the pressure points of the hands more effectively on the club. They simply work together more effectively. 10-finger is acceptable but I see many people make mistakes in pressure and unification. This is why I teach overlapping vs. 10-finger.
