    So Hoggy officially announces his retirement today (9/7/23).
    Thank you so much Hoggy for everything you have done for Scottish rugby, you are part of the reason why watching Scotland is so enjoyable nowadays, you Finn Russell, Laidlaw, Van Der Merwe all played a big part in Scotland being where we are now.
    Just gutted that you never got the chance to say goodbye to a full house in Murrayfield, you deserve that send off.
    Thank you for bringing pride back to the jersey and thank you for the wonderful tries and creating of tries.
    Awrabest Hoggy.

    As an Irish fan, I was always completely (maybe even arrogantly) confident that we would beat Scotland.... aslong as Stuart Hogg was contained. There was a period between 2015-2019 when he was probably the most dangerous outside back in the world!

    As an English fan born in the 1990s, he was the first scottish rugby player who scared me whenever we played scotland. Before he came into the team, Scotland's attack had been at best laughable (Ironic now I know). He was the first Scottish player I'd seen with a bit of flair and desire. When people talk now about how Scotland have such a good team, Hogg is the man that started it all. He made Scotland better. Scottish Rugby has a lot to thank him for, its a shame he never got one six nations under the belt, best back never to win it in the pro era?

      I’m happy to see this. I’m Scottish and stayed watching rugby in like 2010 as a kid. Could argue Hogg is the main reason for me being so obsessed with rugby, and I feel he gets brutally underrated as a great player by anyone not Scottish (or who doesn’t watch every game)

    • @harrybrown1513
      @harrybrown1513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Mark Johnston genuinely the first world class player I ever saw in a Scottish Jersey (could maybe argue Gavin Hastings but he never scared me really). He came on and turned your attack around, before him I think you averaged 0.7 of a try every game in the six nations or something ridiculous like that. When you look at your team now and see players like finn Russell, JVM and Kinghorn, Hogg is the one that set the foundations for Scotland having players like that and thr foundations for the best Scottish team I've ever seen. Don't think any fan would dispute that.

    As a relatively young Irish fan, I was always (overly)confident against Scotland, this lad changed my tune pretty lively. Terrifying to play against, could come up with something out of nothing at the drop of a hat, absolutely massive player.

    No substitute for pace. A young Hoggy had genuine wheels, as he’s aged you see less of it. Winning back to back 6Ns POT says a lot. Shame injuries prevented him representing the Lions at the peak of his powers - that try against Ireland! 🔥

    The 2010's was a difficult period for Scotland and Hogg was one of the best (if not the best) Scottish players during that time.
    I'm a fan and was quite shocked to learn he will retire after the 2023 WC.
    I hope he will reach 30 tries !

    Huge loss to Scottish Rugby, absolute Star. I watched them play the AB's at Murrayfield at the end of last year and Scotland chucked everything at their game, it was thrilling, a clincher and Stuart led that Team exceptionally. I live in the Highlands and am a Kiwi, he'll be such a loss and I hope he continues to do something with Club Rugby in Scotland. Whatever you do Mate, know you have passed on that Jersey with huge accolades, respect and love. All the very, very best for your future.
