    3 for 3 for me!
I’ll have to listen on TH-cam, but I see me seeking this out and playing this one fairly regularly.
    Thanks again, Sidecar Dog.

Have to say these 3 songs were my favourite. Some sublime guitar work. Awrsome vocals harmonies. It's music that is right up my alley. I will definitely be checking out there other stuff! PS. The more I hear the vocals, the more I start to hear Chris Cornell!!!

Peaceful Harbour is one of my favs by FC. Such a majestic track. First time I've been through the whole album. I really enjoyed it. Thanks, Jim.

I know of several people going on Cruise To The Edge this weekend. Jana and Nathan included. I believe Flying Colors is one of the scheduled acts. Hopefully someone will share video of their performances on the cruise.

@@JimNewsteadPeaceful Harbor and Cosmic Symphony were highlights of the whole cruise! Hope to have a video soon with Jana to talk about our experience, and filmed some things as well!

They were going into the studio this year. Hopefully that still happens. Steve Morse just lost his wife to cancer a couple weeks ago. My heart breaks for the poor guy.

Yes, I just read that too. Very sad.

Hm, I know that Steve Morse and Dave LaRue are going to record a new Dregs or a new SMB album (hopefully both) and make a tour (Steve heals his grief in hard working). But I've not heard about Flying Colors going back to studio. I don't think Portnoy is allowed to do this for some time now because of DT; he left the Neal Morse Band, for example.

Excellent. I've said before that Transatlantic sound like a post-graduate degree in prog and this is more of the same (but in a good way! Who wouldn't want a doctorate in prog?) Sometimes the most virtuosic and experienced musicians can sound a little sterile and self-satisfied because they know that tab A slots nicely into slot B but here we end up with a scale model of The Empire State Building...at sunrise...on a beautiful spring day. All it needed was an unexpected King Kong to come along and it would have really hit the top spot.

I reserved my opinion right till the end. what a thoroughly brilliant album of superbly crafted musicianship. Shades of Radiohead on the final track. Definitely on my shopping list....Haha, you just mentioned Radiohead. Great minds........

Flying Colors are a funny old one for me... They lean a little poppier than I generally like (I'm odd in that I'll be happy as Larry assaulting my ears with some viciously dissonant jazz, but most three chord pop songs make me squirm with discomfort), but they've also crafted some astonishingly good songs over the years that I couldn't imagine life without at this point.
On all three albums I've found I absolutely adore about 30% of it, can take or leave 40% and quite actively dislike the other 30%. This makes them one of those very rare bands where I rely on a personally curated playlist rather than the albums themselves. From this album, Open Up Your Eyes, Mask Machine, Peaceful Harbour and Cosmic Symphony made the cut.
That being said, thank you Jim (and Sidecardog!) for nudging me to revisit this album. It was good to hear those songs in their proper context for the first time in a few years.

Yes..any Neal Morse Band will delight you. Their last one-- 'Innocence and Danger',has one disc of shorter tracks, and one with two incredible epics. Highly recommended...T

You should also listen to their first album as well!! Thanks for the review!! On a single song to listen to, you should listen to The Man In The Iron Cage by The Neil Morse Band. Portnoy also plays in that ensemble as well. The first Flying Color album has the tract The Storm which would be a great listen as well!!

Jim, I know you liked the previous Transatlantic albums. You should listen to Kaleidoscope, which was their fourth studio album. Into The Blue is one of their classic songs but Shine and Black As The Sky as well as the title track is excellent. The Absolute Universe is also great but the music is really dark since it came out during COVID. Still another great album would be The Simuitue Of A Dream by The Neal Morse Band. An album very similar to the structure of The Whirlwind. Thanks!!!

Excellent Album, excellent videos. This last part was definitely the best in my opinion. I have listened to a 'bit' of Flying Colors in the past, but not really taken much interest - These videos have made me want to listen to some more. I have to say, again in my opinion, that this album is almost on a par with A Cell To Call Home (Advent Horizon) as an album that can be listened to start to finish with no skipping. If one needs another album like that, can I recommend The Last Goodbye by Galahad 😁

Because Steve used him for so long. Dave LaRue is now my favorite bass player.

this was not the "normal" MorsePortnoy music, but it was good ... I still prefer Neal and Roine as singers, also Eric Gillette

It is, as you rightly said Jim, quite special.
Still not really my cup of tea, but damn it wasn't a fantastically produced and beautiful bit of music there.

Hey Jim - just got back from Cruise to the Edge and Flying Colors was one of the highlights for me, in addition to Airbag, Riverside and Klone. Marillion and Steve Hacket were very good as well. Flying Colors was an emotional experience as their heartache is obvious within the songs.
