I agree, I guess because the stages were quite dark and the music perfectly matches the atmosphere. To tell you the truth this is probably related with hardware limitations in order to simulate a 3D background with 2D rotated pictures, but the music is perfect anyway, the most solid in the whole series imho. Tekken 4 used fully 3D stages, just like Tekken 3 did, but this time most of them had walls and this contributed to make an oppressive atmosphere, plus the music was kind of experimental. Later revisions had and more joke characters, stages and music so its style was not so consistent. Tekken 7 seems to recover part of this atmosphere and specially the music style is better matched than T6 or TTT2.

I think I know what it is at least pertaining to this game 1. The characters didn't really talk much 2. The backdrops tended to be darker (obviously this stage is prime example of this) 3. The stages have the illusion of being endless instead of being closed off like the later entries 4. The stages are secluded there's really no one around other than the two people fighting. It makes you think how did these two people meet to have a showdown alone in a forest or wherever

I think Takayuki Aihara worked on this game. He also did Soul Blade or Edge and Street Fighter EX. He actually did a lot of things, but left Namco after 1996 or something.
They need to have Character Stage Representatives already on Tekken 1 including Tekken 2 without Reusing Music followed by Tekken 3 and no Sharing Stages or Music nor Remix Melody either

I don't like the way Namco designs Yoshimitsu nowadays. Seems as though over the years Namco has given him more of a cybernetic look and made him look less human as to how he was designed in the first 3 Tekken games. Tekken 2 was the only game where he actually looked like a human Samurai instead of a cyborg. His Tekken 2 and 3 designs were the best in my opinion.

For me Tekken 2 was the best of the original trilogy, and Tekken 5 was the peak of the series because it brought back so many characters from Tekken 2 and seemed like a return to form. Tekken 3 and 4 were still great but a little too detatched from the first two, and Tekken 6 and 7 seemed to put less focus on Jin, because it was mainly Lars in 6 and Kazuya in 7. I hope Tekken 8 is another return to form like Tekken 5 was.
