@Chocolate Sandwich those seem to be custom arcades, there was no arcade release of tekken tag based on the ps2 version, even the turbo version that was shown a few years back was purely based on the original system 12 release (the one that "looks like crap" that you mentioned)

Tekken 2 storytelling was decades ahead of its time. The mirrors represented Kazuya's self-reflection and Angel represented his humanity that loses to Devil. When was the last time you had a video game character that was *entirely METAPHORICAL!?* Silent Hill is the only game i can think of which has symbolic levels&characters based on a character's psyche and T2 predates SH by 4 years.
majora's mask is basically a metaphor about loss and grief. I would say that easily more than half of EVERYTHING in the ENTIRE GAME is a metaphor or analogy about some emotion or mental/emotional state. it's a heavy experience but it is one of my favourite games of all time

Kinda wished this played in 8’s final fight, with Jin hearing Jun’s voice to use his power to save Kazuya. Or maybe Kazuya finally thinks he’s gone too far and has the mentality like “only death can save me”
I kinda agree too, even if 8's final fight was good, I would have loved to see Kazuya reflecting and/or struggling again with his inner demon self too, it was really cool. Seeing Kazuya just being okay with it has always been a bit weird with me

I disagree, this theme demonstrates that Kazuya succumbed to his evil side. Jin battle with Kazuya should demonstrate that Jin is superior to Kazuya both in fighting and mental ability, since he prevailed over Devil Jin's influence, while Kazuya failed to retain his good side. However, I think that there should be a scene in Tekken 8 with an inner battle between Jin and Devil Jin similar to the stage "Be in the Mirror", but Jin actually wins. However, instead of a dark space with mirrors it is a forest in flames or something corrupted, but that gets purified as the battle goes on until the darkness is contained, but not extinguished.

The space fight Kazuya did have Azazel, just like Jun had helped Jin control his Kazama powers. But the magic attack from Claudio and the struggling Azazel had weakened Kazuya. Yeah Jin won the final duel but it was not because he was better, its simply because Jin had better motivations. Kazuya seemed hesitant to kill his son. He wanted to knock him down. "Break Damn you!" "Those who try to dictate my life will suffer for their transgressions" and walks away when Jin knocks out In his ending, he throws him off the cliff but that's not enough to kill Mishimas. Kaz was teaching his son to quit his "naive" world view and adopt social Darwinism the same way he did when Hiehachi did that to him.

Kinda sucks they threw away this aspect of his character. You'd think with the randomoly trying to humanize Heihachi they'd callback to Kazuya not really choosing to be evil. Hatred & lust for power consumed him.
tekken 4 even tried to bring some of this duality between devil and kazuya again, with that kazuya scene having to fight to regain control of his own body, and even has that scene that hints that devil hid information from kazuya, about a method of merging them with jin.(sorry for my bad english)

It may sound strange to yall but "Be In The Mirror" reminds me of 90s Greek and Spanish-language soap operas and soundtracks, particularly "Kalimera zoi (That shitrash soap opera had 3093 episodes!)". Kazuya Mishima does look like a bit with Taxiarch Stathis Theoharis. Which leads us to the final completing puzzlepiece, the music here isn't predominantly Japanese as Kazuya's is but purely Western, what more appropiately compatible than linking it to the birthplace of Western Civilization, right? The final battle didn't happen in a secret mirror room as you all deluded to believe, but in Portara, a lintel at Naxos (a Greek island). Those aren't mirrors they are the illusions Portara's gap creates but Kazuya vividly imagines them as mirrors because they are the layers of his self, The Devil symbolizes the Western greed and civilization corrupting Kazuya and Japan's decaying state of their civilization. Kazuya is the authentic Japan, Devil is the Westernized side of Japan consuming it and corrupting it from within. The Devil.. within.
Am I the only one hoping that Jin gets a boss fight like this but with his own devil-half? I feel like Jin finally coming to peace with the devil genes in his body and becoming a proper combination of human and devil would not only be compelling story-wise, but it’d also be a cool parallel to his father Kazuya before he’d finally have to confront him. Post-Tekken 8 Edit: Called it!
They've retconned everything, devil is no longer an entity within Jin or Kazuya. Tekken 7 writers treat devil like a superpower kazuya/jin had trouble controlling. In TK1-4 Devil was a separate entity which was trying to control Kazuya and Angel represented the humanity within Kazuya fighting back but the final boss is devil meaning that Kazuya's soul(ie ANGEL) lost the battle in Tekken 2. That's why this theme is somber, all that's left was DEVIL not "Devil Kazuya".

Harada stated Kazuya and Jin suspect the devil started with Jinpachi,this heavily implies that after cursing Jin the half devil spirit went on to possess Jinpachi. Thats why he looked demonic but did not have horns and wings, because he was possessed by the spirit but lacked the gene
the entire devil gene thing is a retcon it had no part in the original story.....in tekken 3 devil branded himself on jin's arm due to the curse on his father for having sold his soul in order to survive the fall and get revenge on his father.@@newhybrid101
I so dissapointed by the last tekkens, especially tekken 7. they completely lost the genuine touch and art they had in the past, to appeal other crowd I guess... But it really deminish greatly the game more and more.
I don't think he actually embraced it as much as it took over. Devil helped him beat heihachi in T1, and then between 1 and 2 he was a recluse with a dark side, who took the zaibatsu down an increasingly dark path as time went on. I think that Devil took over - or at least highly influenced - Kazuya during that time. And The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 2 was Devils attempt to find strong fighters. Throughout the games sjcnd, there have been glimpses of old Kazuya (most notably the now non-canon Tekken 5 ending - thank you harada...) before returning to his evil self. Which to me makes me think that there's still conflict in there. Edit: but thats just a theory ofc. The plot changed so much and Harada hasn't exactly hid the fact he doesn't care for Kazuya. Tried to kill him off, people rebelled, brought him back, didn't really do much with him since except OoooOooOoOh evil devil guy OooOooOooOoh
@@kronksstronkstonks6360 It took Heihachi's VA to die for Harada to finally let go of that character. Tekken needs a cartoon reboot like Arcane that doesn't have Harada involved. I still miss the serious storylines T4 had that could've led Tekken to become amazing. Keeping Harada post T5 was a mistake.
@@falconeshield T4 was the right path after T3 messed a lot of stuff up - I will forever complain about the hearsay that Kazuya and Jun were meant to be pivotal to the Tekken storyline, only for Ishii to step back, Harada to step forward, and Jin introduced as the main focus if the storyline, with Jun and Kaz killed off (before backlash brought Kaz back). Also about Harada stating Kazuya never loved Jun, which makes no sense since in post-Ishii canon, the Kazama clan seem to have an affinity for messing up the Devil Gene. Why would Kaz willingly sleep around with someone who suppresses the influence that promises him revenge on his father? Nor would Devil risk putting his essence into a child resistant to his control through the Kazama bloodline. Makes no sense. But that's Harada in a nutshell imo. I really don't like what he's turned Tekken into. Still love the game and the characters, but the story is a shambles of Ishii stuff that Harada spliced into his own narrative to make the disjointed, over the top mess we have today. Tekken 4 was a fantastic shift in tone. The dark story was always there but 4 really leaned into it, and imho, perfected it. T4 is probably the only thing i truly commend Harada for. It was brilliant. But then we've got this bloated, overly dramatic world-scale conflict going on that takes away focus from basically every non-mishima character. Kinda blew it. But that's just my subjective opinion, I guess. A Tekken anime in the style of Arcane without Harada's influence would make me feel like a 7 year old on Christmas morning again. Especially if they leaned into the Devil entity's machinations, the Mishima's dysfunctional family dynamic, and eventually Kazuya/,Juns relationship. The fact it will never happen is pretty disheartening. Headcanon ftw I guess.

Theres no exuse for tekken to have fallen of and not be as good as it used to in terms of story feel and even characters like this theres no exuse there either just being lazy or dont care about it anymore or the old producers that gave it this feel are probably gone

It would be cool if Jin loses in Tekken 8 and Jun defeating Kazuya. But since they will surely make more games (too much money) they could end the story there and create an alternate timeline like they did with SC6.

Kinda sucks they threw away this aspect of his character. You'd think with the randomoly trying to humanize Heihachi they'd callback to Kazuya not really choosing to be evil. Hatred & lust for power consumed him.
tekken 4 even tried to bring some of this duality between devil and kazuya again, with that kazuya scene having to fight to regain control of his own body, and even has that scene that hints that devil hid information from kazuya, about a method of merging them with jin.(sorry for my bad english)
@Trelltinsley193 Tekken 2 show a Heihachi who care about his son, we saw this in Kazuya cinematic (even if it's not canon), and want peace in world in Project X Zone 2 (yeah I was shocked when I see him say that, and he was honest). And Kazuya never fight physically against Devil in the canon

It may sound strange to yall but "Be In The Mirror" reminds me of 90s Greek and Spanish-language soap operas and soundtracks, particularly "Kalimera zoi (That shitrash soap opera had 3093 episodes!)". Kazuya Mishima does look like a bit with Taxiarch Stathis Theoharis. Which leads us to the final completing puzzlepiece, the music here isn't predominantly Japanese as Kazuya's is but purely Western, what more appropiately compatible than linking it to the birthplace of Western Civilization, right? The final battle didn't happen in a secret mirror room as you all deluded to believe, but in Portara, a lintel at Naxos (a Greek island). Those aren't mirrors they are the illusions Portara's gap creates but Kazuya vividly imagines them as mirrors because they are the layers of his self, The Devil symbolizes the Western greed and civilization corrupting Kazuya and Japan's decaying state of their civilization. Kazuya is the authentic Japan, Devil is the Westernized side of Japan consuming it and corrupting it from within. The Devil.. within.

Am I the only one hoping that Jin gets a boss fight like this but with his own devil-half? I feel like Jin finally coming to peace with the devil genes in his body and becoming a proper combination of human and devil would not only be compelling story-wise, but it’d also be a cool parallel to his father Kazuya before he’d finally have to confront him.

They've retconned everything, devil is no longer an entity within Jin or Kazuya. Tekken 7 writers treat devil like a superpower kazuya/jin had trouble controlling. In TK1-4 Devil was a separate entity which was trying to control Kazuya and Angel represented the humanity within Kazuya fighting back but the final boss is devil meaning that Kazuya's soul(ie ANGEL) lost the battle in Tekken 2. That's why this theme is somber, all that's left was DEVIL not "Devil Kazuya".

Kazuyas devil gene DID split,a spiritual part of his devil went and marked/cursed Jin as we see in Tekken 3 but Jin still has his own biological devil.
Kazuya thinks Jin has his devil cause he doesn't know how it works,he doesn't know Kazumi was a devil.
Harada stated Kazuya and Jin suspect the devil started with Jinpachi,this heavily implies that after cursing Jin the half devil spirit went on to possess Jinpachi.
Thats why he looked demonic but did not have horns and wings, because he was possessed by the spirit but lacked the gene

I so dissapointed by the last tekkens, especially tekken 7. they completely lost the genuine touch and art they had in the past, to appeal other crowd I guess... But it really deminish greatly the game more and more.

I don't think he actually embraced it as much as it took over. Devil helped him beat heihachi in T1, and then between 1 and 2 he was a recluse with a dark side, who took the zaibatsu down an increasingly dark path as time went on.
I think that Devil took over - or at least highly influenced - Kazuya during that time. And The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 2 was Devils attempt to find strong fighters.
Throughout the games sjcnd, there have been glimpses of old Kazuya (most notably the now non-canon Tekken 5 ending - thank you harada...) before returning to his evil self. Which to me makes me think that there's still conflict in there.
Edit: but thats just a theory ofc. The plot changed so much and Harada hasn't exactly hid the fact he doesn't care for Kazuya. Tried to kill him off, people rebelled, brought him back, didn't really do much with him since except OoooOooOoOh evil devil guy OooOooOooOoh
@@kronksstronkstonks6360 It took Heihachi's VA to die for Harada to finally let go of that character. Tekken needs a cartoon reboot like Arcane that doesn't have Harada involved. I still miss the serious storylines T4 had that could've led Tekken to become amazing. Keeping Harada post T5 was a mistake.
@@falconeshield T4 was the right path after T3 messed a lot of stuff up - I will forever complain about the hearsay that Kazuya and Jun were meant to be pivotal to the Tekken storyline, only for Ishii to step back, Harada to step forward, and Jin introduced as the main focus if the storyline, with Jun and Kaz killed off (before backlash brought Kaz back).
Also about Harada stating Kazuya never loved Jun, which makes no sense since in post-Ishii canon, the Kazama clan seem to have an affinity for messing up the Devil Gene. Why would Kaz willingly sleep around with someone who suppresses the influence that promises him revenge on his father? Nor would Devil risk putting his essence into a child resistant to his control through the Kazama bloodline. Makes no sense. But that's Harada in a nutshell imo. I really don't like what he's turned Tekken into. Still love the game and the characters, but the story is a shambles of Ishii stuff that Harada spliced into his own narrative to make the disjointed, over the top mess we have today.
Tekken 4 was a fantastic shift in tone. The dark story was always there but 4 really leaned into it, and imho, perfected it. T4 is probably the only thing i truly commend Harada for. It was brilliant. But then we've got this bloated, overly dramatic world-scale conflict going on that takes away focus from basically every non-mishima character. Kinda blew it. But that's just my subjective opinion, I guess.
A Tekken anime in the style of Arcane without Harada's influence would make me feel like a 7 year old on Christmas morning again. Especially if they leaned into the Devil entity's machinations, the Mishima's dysfunctional family dynamic, and eventually Kazuya/,Juns relationship. The fact it will never happen is pretty disheartening. Headcanon ftw I guess.
@@kronksstronkstonks6360 yep, he is undoubtly still struggling with himself, its the whole character and it never changed, even if now the story is pretty much dumbshit, you still see that Kazuya still have a glance of humanity, but he cannot be saved anymore nonetheless. the only way to save him is by killing him of his misery, which Jin will prolly do, while Kaz saying he loved his mom and life was shit, without asking forgiveness.

This theme has always been awesome I dont know why they dont bring back this stage and theme with the original sound with todays graphics with the same dark sad feel. And mirrors.
