MilkDrop Tutorial1 : how to install MilkDrop3 + basic keys you must know!

This tutorial is for beginner that want to install MilkDrop3 and I'm explaining the minimum keys shortcut you should know!
I forgot to mention, if you're already used an older version of MilkDrop on your computer or installed some old DirectX9 games, you'll probably won't need to install the DirectX files! The blue label won't show up and you'll be able to directly EXTRACT all the files when launching the installer. Do NOT extract the files in a restricted folder like C:\Program Files or C:\, keep the default folder on your desktop or any other drive like D:\ E:\ F:\ are fine.

Well, I had grown hopeless by the lack of visualisation software. Thank god, you exist.
Been missing this in my life for over a decade. Thank you for bringing Milkdrop into the future
I'm following *ProjectM* from quite some time and just fell of my chair discovering your work _(thanks to the _*_MilkDrop/ProjectM_*_ Wikipedia page)._ Man... this thing is sick.
You've added so many functions and customization in it. Truly amazing. One of the coolest tools ever seen.
Thank you and Bravo 👏
thanks!
Also pardon my French, but santa mierda! ;) I've missed you so much Milkdrop! The new update is just what I've been waiting for since the original demise of Winamp!!! Nicely done!
Dude thank you so much for making this! I used to use Milkdrop 2 all the time with Winamp, but haven't in a long time since Winamp shut down. It's so good to see it again in all it's glory! Thanks again!
Winamp is still up, and it's still quite nice. Although, with the takeover with streaming services, it's hard to _legally_ find a way to get music files.
@@anatoliyatrilvik7660 That's really my biggest issue. I have both Spotify and Deezer. I do have music on my hard drive, but it's mostly from my physical collections or stuff I bought from Bandcamp, which is limiting considering the sheer amount of music I listen to on a daily basis from said streaming services. I do torrent sometimes, but I just listen to far too much music to download everything. So honestly, this is a godsend.
I may just redownload Winamp for nostalgia's sake lol. I know that "line in" trick to get Winamp to pick up your desktop audio, but it doesn't seem to work for me anymore.
@@anatoliyatrilvik7660 what? you can download music from tons of places, i'm listening to some new music files in winamp as we speak, maybe i'm missing something here 🤦♂
Dope! It would be awesome to have two windows, one with only the visuals on the second monitor (or video projector) and one window with visuals and text overlay with all the commands
I totally agree.
Thank you so much for this! I've been using Milk for years and this program is amazing!! Makes things so simple. Add Preset, play music, open program. Awesome!
THANK YOU SO MUCH especially for the preset editing managing thing tutorial much love to ur future developments n plans
Thanks for this my friend, I spent a bunch of time googling some of the classic visualizers and was dissatisfied with getting anything remotely interesting running on my HTPC. I have weird audio shit going on all over my house and your stuff was easy to integrate. Thanks.
I think my only request after clicking through the ini would be to have the ability to pick which output we'd like Milkdrop3 to monitor? In my office I have multiple 12in-12out devices set up for various studio tasks and it would be helpful.
I love that you did this, you're an unsung hero
thank you so much! i miss winamp so much. i'm trying to figure out a way to get this on my TV, without having to hook up an HDMI cable to the back of my desktop. I wish you could load this into chrome, and then i could cast it over to my chromecast. Guess i'll have to just hardwire my tv up, so when i'm chillin i can have music playing with milkdrop on my TV :D.
Thanks for such an awesome upgrade to Milkdrop :-)
Dude, I just wanted to say THANK YOU! Milkdrop 3 is amazing!!!!!!!
Nice ! is there a VJ mode ? like another windows for the text and option ? and does it does spout sending ?
in future version it will have VJ mode + spout support
What an amazing achievement! Thanks for making this!
This is amazing. Thanks for making this
just got this and its awesome, really impressive stuff, thankyou for making this!
Actually sick!!! Thank you so much for this. Works great with MusicBee too.
I'm not sure how to thank you properly - it's lot of hard work - thank you for doing this
I just found out about this and its super duper amazing!!! Thank you for your work
huge ups for this. great work and really fun to watch
Testing it atm. Amazing work.
Can it be used with Line-In with an external sound system? EDIT: Yes, it works as long as your sound hardware allows you to pick the microphone input as a playback source.
How did you do this?
Thank you for the developments. Super easy to set up.
Where do I select beat sync to aux input on my audio interface? I bought a cheap Behringer UCA202 that has RCA inputs so I can beat generate visualizer movement from my dj rig. I can "monitor" the mic/rca input within Windows but there's about a 1 second delay and it's not good enough to use professionally yet.
try to set it as your default device, or try using a virtual audio cable : www.patreon.com/posts/how-to-use-your-98362918 but I'm not sure this will work with RCA inputs
Thanks!
How can I bookmark presets? I love some visualizers but having to look them through all the list doesn't seem practical, is there a way?
Next version will support playlist :) In the meantime, you can group them in folders, rename them in the order you want and load them in alphabetical order (press 'R'). The delete mode is pretty good to clean up the ones you don't like, press CTRL+DELETE, then just delete to the ones you don't want to see again!
@@MilkDrop2077 Thank you very much for the idea! Just suscribed to your patreon, thank you so much for this, really
Does this responds to the music played or ia it just a wacky pattern generation on its own?
what you think: th-cam.com/video/4_zlbrNehN8/w-d-xo.html
It won't let me download the actual app. I followed the tutorial though?
Is there a way of installing it as a plugin to Winamp/WACUP as you can with Milkdrop2?
no it's not a plugin anymore
Hi! I've installed v3 and I'm using a window capture to add it as s source in OBS. That said, I have no way of routing audio to it, so I am not getting the visuals reacting to the music in the way it should. Can you assist? I would like to be able to send the OBS audio from my sound card to Milkdrop, but I can't find a way to do so. If you could make this an OBS friendly VST, I think it would be extremely popular. Also, I would like to remove the watermark as it showed up a few times on my stream last night!
Hey! I made a v3.30 version with spout support if that may help www.buymeacoffee.com/milkdrop2077 or www.patreon.com/posts/milkdrop-3-30-is-93382777 otherwise you should be able to do that with a virtual audio cable. I'm working on a way to let the user choose what audio device MilkDrop should listen, I'm hopping to get the code working next month. You'll be able to download a version without watermark sometime next year, for the moment it's part of the show ;)
I already have a spout source for other visuals, and it seems difficult to add more than one spout source without conflicts. Although, I will try again. I am also more than happy to contribute, if you nail this within OBS, it will be huge for Milkdrop. Happy to shout about it! @@MilkDrop2077
The watermark is important for me, as I run a lot of other logos etc. But, I am more than happy to shout about Milkdrop, I just need it to fit my aesthetic in a way I can deliver that suits the stream @@MilkDrop2077
BeatDrop still has Spout Support! Why don't you try?
@@OfficialIncubo_ Because Spout doesn’t capture the audio. I need to add an audio source to make the animations come alive to the music, so Milkdrop for me right is of no use until this happens. Which is a shame as I like it. I’m using Vidjam instead which I can sync to my beats and tempo.
How do I select audio source? Is that done by launching a program through settings menu?
You can try a virtual audio-cable to pickup the audio device you want or if it still does not work or I've made a v3.30 on my patreon page where you can choose the audio device.
Any chance of seeing this work in VLC on Linux? (Tried ProjectM but it won't go fullscreen, and MD3 isn't in the repositories)
I think some people made milkdrop3 run on linux with Wine, but I haven't tested myself
Im getting ''unable to initialize dxcontent probably out of memory'' error when starting the exe. what gives?
re-install directx www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 and update your graphics drivers, reboot. what's your windows version?
@@MilkDrop2077 yep the rebooting worked xD.
cheers my man this is amazing software. will trip balls for ages to this hahaha.
@@MilkDrop2077 Btw is it possible to add the ''creme of the crop'' preset without any issues or conflicts? I assume it just overwrites and existing presets right? No idea how to do it yet but ill figure it out.
@@PsycosisIncarnated yes of course, just copy the presets (.milk) in Milkdrop3\presets and restart milkdrop. You can choose a directory by pressing 'L'
@@MilkDrop2077 thank you very much. will do it in a bit :)
You are a god. That is all.
Saab feel free to use MilkDrop3 in one of your video, on a screen in the background, wherever you want!
Amazing I'm honestly in disbelief that you're still working on milkdrop!
If you ever read this.. can you add transitions to the color changes? This way I could sort of dj the colors as I'm finding the right ones live.
I'll add that soon I already have the code working to individually change the R,G,B values!
@@MilkDrop2077 Dang, what a response time - thanks for all your hardwork! haha I've been using MilkDrop for the past 2 years for my listening parties. This year I'm giving everyone ChromaVision glasses to amp up the fun even more ;)
doing gods work
Great job sir!
where do you select the audio playback?
i have 3 sound cards and i cant select which mildrop uses so it does nothing
Best "about" ever! I'm kinda poor, but I'll throw at least a dollar your way tomorrow.
ahah yes it's the best about ever, thanks ;)
@@MilkDrop2077 watched it all the way through ^^. Already checked your donation site and saw that I probably need to scrounge up a few more euros than I planned. Since you offer some really cool stuff. I respect and commend you for offering your work for free, and how you deal with donations.
I don't get the download DirectX 9.0 blue box. Then when I try to run, I get an error msg and it just closes.
You can try to download the new MilkDropPanel that will come with v3.26, I've added an 'help' tab and listed most of the common issues and how to solve them.
Let me know if that works for you : github.com/milkdrop2077/MilkDrop3/issues/65#issuecomment-2068209627
@@MilkDrop2077 it's ok, I got it working. Thanks
Great work!!! Thanks!
You are a genius
Can this be used with the Shpeck plugin for Foobar2000?
No. But Milkdrop3/BeatDrop uses WASAPI, also loopback-capture to react the audio from speakers.
Excellent work friend, I have two questions, how can it be integrated natively for Winamp, and if there is a preset or something similar like an anime girl dancing to music, or open a program that does that. thank you very much for the excellent work done
You could probably whip something up using an overlay in OBS
Any way to run this on a raspberry pi using Linux? (The Raspberry Pi 4 features a 64-bit quad core processor running @ 1.5 Ghz. The CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 4GB )
No it's Windows only. It runs with Wine on Linux apparently but I never tried. Otherwise use Projectm
How can i select an audio input?
Great work!
hi im not super into computers but whenever i play Milkdrop3 now it always says that it cant read my User file. I don't know what that means but how do i fix that? it was working just fine a while ago during my last opening of the app
where did you extract the MilkDrop3 folder? on your desktop? what's the exact error message?
LEGEND
thanks so much.
very odd, i'm getting 30 to 80 fps with a 4090 at 192mesh, doesn't seem to want to use more than 27% max gpu, guess i'll keep it at 160 for 144fps
Yes the code for the mesh size is old and won't use the full potential of your cpu and gpu. Stay at 128 or 160 it's plenty, the difference is minimal :)
Any idea how it can be integrated with foobar2000?
Hi, yes you can (kind of), read this: foobar2000.xrea.jp/?Visualization+64bit
whats the different to milkdrop 2 / Projektm?
I've listed all the new functionalities here : github.com/milkdrop2077/MilkDrop3 or you can watch the second tutorial explaining all the new stuff : th-cam.com/video/QBsDXPENe1I/w-d-xo.html
God bless you. I'm gonna buy you a coffee. Any chance you can throw the dudes making WACUP a bone and make a dll to integrate into that player? (I probably don't know what I'm talking about) at any rate. MilkDrop 3 would be an awesome integration to that project!
One day maybe I'll make a dll
3:04 bro listened spider dance XD
Thx a lot... Let's see what I can do with an old Windows 7 laptop. Thx a lot.
Thank you!
this is wicked. ty
I take it this dose not work for Mac?
no but you can run it with Parallels on mac
crashes whenever i go full screen suggesting i close things using ram. thing is im running a 4090 and 64 g of ddr5 ram. any ideas? man i want this to work. been dreaming of a stand alone milkdrop for literal decades!
Weird. MilkDrop 3 runs perfectly on a 10yo crappy laptop with 2gb of ram, so your configuration is more than enough. What's your windows version? Any error message popping or it just crash? Do you have the same problem with my older version BeatDrop2077 github.com/milkdrop2077/BeatDrop2077 ?
Is the effect lessened? ? I didn't find that effect of the woods。
most of the effects in my newer videos will be available with MilkDrop 3.2 (coming in a few days)
No night in the forest !!!!!!!! in 3.2.4@@MilkDrop2077
THANK YOU!
awesome bro!
Hello and many thanks for release :) - but i'm missing my favorite feature of winamps milkdrops: the Desktop-mode :/ any chances? (or even a frameless mode NOT ALWAYS ON TOP would help :/)
One day I'll add the desktop mode. I made a full-screen not always on top option in the MilkDropPanel if that help
You are so dope bro thank you
Anyone know the music that is playing during the video?
you can see the titles at 08 seconds, LukHash - Keygen, and spider dance
Okay but how do you actually use it with musicbee?
just install it and use it
yea i realized that lol. sometimes I can be quite stupid lol
@@MilkDrop2077
MilkDrop does not respond after installation
what to do
do you have multiple audio devices? what's your setup?
@@MilkDrop2077 I installed it directly according to the video steps. There is only one notebook and one monitor, and the audio device has only one headset. After installation, click to start the program, nothing happens.

@@ByrneLucas hard to tell sorry
Buongiorno, come si collega con Foobar2000?
Buongiorno, funziona con qualsiasi sorgente audio, quindi funziona con Foobar2000
How to do this for Mac?
it works with Parallels for Mac
anyone else having issues with the blue label not showing up?
Work for Mac?
yes with a software like Parallels (a virtual machine running Windows)
can i add more presets?
yes of course, just copy any presets in Milkdrop3\presets
@@MilkDrop2077 thanks now I have like 10,000 presets 😅
If you had a milkdrop3 vst that could be scanned into a DAW, it would be a game changer!
Sounds interesting. I don't use vst/daw, could you explain me what would be the dream use case?
not sure if anyone is running into the 'error compiling ps_2_0 warp shader' message during installation, but the fix on 2 different computers (months apart, fixed and forgot the first fix) was to install DirectX End-User Runtime (aka DirectX Redist) freely available from Microsoft. *milc drop
Just upgrade the preset's pixel shader, reload them and save + overwrite, dang it!
Unless I'm missing something - it does not work with audio - it does it's own thing
click on file > new to see a simple audio spectrum. It should follow your audio. If not, it means you have a complex audio setup and you need to adjust it (could be the frequency is too high, keep it to 48kHz...) or something is blocking MilkDrop3 from accessing your audio (could be a software like voicemeeter...)
@@MilkDrop2077 👍
@@MilkDrop2077 would be helpful to see debug about this
Bro I'm on Linux :/
Try with wine! If it works let me know!
@@MilkDrop2077 It dosen't
You'll have to use projectM then. Check the latest version.
@@MilkDrop2077 I did but I don't know why, it dosen't work properly on my machine :/
Such great work!

Is there a vis_milk3.dll I can throw in my WinAmp Plugins folder, or do I have to run 3 separate?
It's not a plugin. MilkDrop3 runs better/faster/stronger on it's own
@@MilkDrop2077 It's just so convenient to load it with WinAmp. Still installed though. You're the vis master!
