    Nice video on the Echo 225! The company I work for has one of these and we use it for industrial/commercial use along with bigger units, t282 and the t302 series but the 225 does just fine in that setting, it's cuts long grass, it cuts weeds and other nuisance growth just fine, we use 0.95 line in our machines, the only drawback to the 225 is that it seems to go thru gas faster than its bigger brothers, lol there has been a few times whoever was using it, ran out of gas in the middle of a 2.5 mile trail and had to walk back to our work truck to refuel lol but other than that Echo makes great trimmers 🙂

    What is the orange knob on the side for? Also what is the line with a white cap on it that is located next to the primer button?

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The orange knob on the side is to loosen the cover on the air filter so you can gain access to the filter when it needs to be cleaned or replaced as part of regular maintenance service. The white cap if I’m looking at what I think you’re talking about, it’s protruding from the fuel tank, it’s a breather line for the tank and the cap I believe is like a one way valve so the fuel tank doesn’t become negative pressure and will prevent the flow of fuel to the carb.

      The rotary scissors intrigue me. Would be nice to get a good crisp cut. Just worried how it will work along vinyl siding I’m a little afraid that it might tear it up a bit. Had this trimmer for 3 seasons now, still on all original parts, same spark plug, etc. still starts up every time after 2 or 3 pulls max when cold. It’s solid. The Darwin grip I don’t care for. tiny tom most modern 2 cycle engines require a 50:1 or 40:1 gas-to-oil mixture. So you can either mix it yourself or buy the pre mix that’s stabilized and ready to go for you with no fuss. I buy echo red armor oil from Home Depot, they sell it in a 2.6 ounce container which is enough to make 1 gallon of mix, or a larger container with a measure that can do 10 gallons per bottle. Any hardware store or big box home improvement store should have pre mix as well. They usually sell it by the liter I believe. It’s a little more expensive but if you aren’t running a landscaping business then it should last a little longer then. If you want ethanol free gas to mix it up yourself check this website out. www.pure-gas.org/

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryan Champion lol Good question, I can hardly believe it either considering it’s a ryobi! I’m guessing A: religious maintenance for its entire life, B: very light and careful use. It had a hard time running for a while until I did a full fuel system overhaul a few years ago, replaced all the lines, fuel filter, spark plug, etc. ran great for a while! That’s key just staying up on maintenance and taking good care of your equipment, keeping it clean and free of debris. I’m hoping this one lasts just as long since it’s not beat up. In a commercial use scenario. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I have used commercial Stihl weedeaters and I am telling you this echo is not far off from being comparable to a commercial unit for power. You can’t beat the price for the power and ease of use. I have seen some negative comments and I just don’t believe these people know what they’re doing operating these powe tools. Ridiculous nonsense these people post. I would recommend buying this echo if you’re looking for a powerful unit at a great price that isn’t $300 - $500 dollars

My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

    I got mine and wasn't really impressed,. Extremely EXTREMELY picky on fuel ,. The stock muffler is terrible and the ECHO string is also completely useless it burns up very very fast. I'd recommend a still fs90 over this all day or at least something commercial

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your feedback! Interesting that you had these observations. I agree with you that stock string that it came with the Echo crossfire .095 definitely gets used up very fast. I switched to the Rhino Tough 095 from Home Depot this season and that stuff works wonderfully and it's a lot cheaper! Might be trying the Husqvarna string too at some point I've heard that stuff is tough as nails.
      But I'm surprised to hear you had issues with fuel. TBH, I just fired my Echo up for the first time this week after sitting in the garage since November, and I used the SAME fuel that I had left over from last year, just typical pump fuel from the gas station and it fired right up after 2 pulls! I was really impressed because I never like to use fuel that old lol. Yours might need a carb adjustment or something, thats very strange. I've even mixed 40:1, 50:1, doesn't seem to matter much, although I do like to run it a bit more on the rich side than what they call for in the manual.

      Gustavo Macall yeah it’s definitely easier and you know you are getting quality gas mix then. It just gets expensive though if you use a lot of it that’s why I don’t buy it. But if you have a small yard I think it can be beneficial since it stores for so long.

      @@DIYDad1 I have a small front yard so I'm debating on getting a small lawnmower or this echo trimmer.

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gustavo Macall what size lawn are we talking? If it’s something like a really narrow side strip along the road or similar then you could get away with a trimmer only. But keep in mind it doesn’t leave as clean of a cut as a mower, and it can be difficult to control the cut height causing gouging if you aren’t careful. So just the quality of cut if you have an area larger than say 5 feet wide I’d definitely just get a smaller mower. If it’s only a few hundred square feet you could probably get away with a manual push reel mower for 99% of the yard, and then use a string trimmer for just the edging and along the house. Check out some of my more recent videos in the lawncare playlist where I’m cutting my lawn with a push reel mower. Works great as long as you maintain the height of cut you want and mow at least once a week. The shorter you go the harder it is to push so that’s the only downside. Thanks for watching, hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions!

      Gustavo Macall this is just a cheap reel mower I got on Craigslist for $20 and it did the job! You could pair something like this with an inexpensive ryobi 40v trimmer for not a lot of money. th-cam.com/video/Jd562ccJkYc/w-d-xo.html

      The head is not supposed to spin when it’s at idle. • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      T BIRD MAN interesting. I haven’t experienced that problem myself but come to think of it I remember hearing that from others before. There has been several revisions of this model over the years, I think the older model srm225 has these issues but echo has since replaced the fuel line weight. I know mine stalls when it gets pretty low but that’s only if it’s less than maybe 1/10th of a tank and that’s only if I’m holding it upside down using it as an edger. But that’s good feedback hopefully echo listens to their customers!

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      T BIRD MAN wow that’s unfortunate. If it’s a common problem you would think echo would do something about it. I’m glad I haven’t had that happen to mine I really like the weight and size of this thing and haven’t had any issues with it since I bought it. It’s been almost a year now since I got it. I’ll have to check some of the outdoor power equipment forums and poke around a bit and see if others are reporting the same issue and see how widespread it is. Hopefully their entire lineup isn’t plagued with those issues! I know a lot of pro landscape guys that love their echo trimmers. They are usually running the bigger ones though. This is definitely a “consumer level” model from them. If you still have it yet my only suggestion would be to maybe add a weight to the end of the fuel line and see if that helps. My guess is that the line is floating to the top of the tank so it’s sucking air instead of fuel. Good luck!
