These Ed Sullivan appearances are truly the best Elvis videos to me. The innocence he has, he still doesn't have the burden of living his life and all of the complications...he is the person he has been his whole life. There are amazing performances to come, amazing songs to come, but none of them capture these early moments where he still has the slight shyness and innocence. He didn't have to try to live up to being Elvis yet, the pressure of being The King, he could just be Elvis...if I'm getting my thought out properly. Just look at his smiles in these videos, they just light up more in his early years.
At school the next day, the kids were talking about how Elvis sang a slow song. I remember the overhead shot. He was a great artist who I appreciate more today than ever before.
This is stunningly beautiful, it is pure art! He sings it right there on the spot going from almost whispering to amazing dynamics without ever once losing control. Only twenty one years old and being a professional singer for just over a year! Incomprehensible!
