- It's the afternoon adventure!! The beach really gave me a tonne of lovely Bladder Moon Snails and Scallop Flats on this day; I took home a bunch!! I think my favorites from this trip were the biggest bivalves and the smallest of the wenteltraps (the beach saved it for last)... just stunning shells. Thank you so much for watching!

Here's some useful links for local shellers:
Shells of SE Queensland: www.seqshells....
(Some listings have multiple variations of a single shell species)

(Check out the illustrations or "plates" to try and match your finds)
Links for less local folks...
Check out the shell families on Femorale, it's a wonderful resource:

(but doesn't include location information unless you filter for it, so might lead to mis-identifications)
You can join this Facebook group for ID advice, just snap a photo and post it:

Oh no, they're all scientific names? No worries, just type the scientific name
into the Queensland Museum Network database. It might have a common name listed!

Good day Queen of Wentletrap's. 😂 Lovely bladder moons. I so agree with your choice of the thorny oyster. Absolutely love that skinny long wentletrap. There for a minute I wasn't sure you were going to find much. Very happy for you that you did Maddie. It's a heatwave here for last two days 31° WOW it really feels warm after -8° below zero 😂. Very much enjoyed the video. Thank you Maddie.
G'day Roberta 👋🏻💖 Send some of the sweet chilly air my way 🤣 I'm melting, the "feels like" temps here are 100F today! 31 is not a heatwave, not even in winter (here in Queensland), the weather folks are lying to you!!!! I joke of course, well, not really, but anyway 😉 Oh yes, there were some lovely shells this time! I can't wait to display my Thorny Oyster somewhere, it's a cool shell 🐚 I know I can buy better Spondyluses if I want to, but it's fun that this is one that I found! The Wentletraps are just lovely this time...I think I might actually like the Stigmatic Wentletrap more than the big chunky one I found last time? It was a very good day at Hervey Bay to find all of these. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Beautiful turkey 🦃 wings, lamallete venus shells, and wentletraps!!! My favorite was the thorny oyster 🦪🦪🦪. LOVE the flats! And my other favorites were the shred top shell and splendid top shell. 🐚🐚🐚 Boy, I sure wish I could comb that beach with you! Happy you got your computer fixed up.💻 Give Nija some love pats for me. 🐱 Thanks for another exciting video Maddie! 💜💜💜
G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 Ohoho those Wentletraps and Lamellate Venuses were just amazing this time 🤩 but that Thorny Oyster took the cake for bivalves this time...actually, I can't remember the last time I found a bivalve I liked more 🤔? Oh wow, I'm surprised that the two top shells got a special mention; they're pretty cool, but usually get overlooked. Oh gosh Pam, I wish you were beach combing with me too, I reckon we'd have a blast!! I'll give Ninja plenty of pats from you 😺 Ninja pictures are coming to you soon, by the way. Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰
I love the thorny oyster!! ALWAYS love the wentletraps! You found a bunch of goodies today! 👏🏻
G'day Aunt Di 👋🏻🏖️ The Thorny Oyster is such a cool one!! All oysters have a slightly different look, especially these ones that can grow their spikes and textures on slightly different ways, so this one just seemed even nicer to me than others I've found before 🤩 Oh, and the Wentletraps too!! I nearly set out my shells to pack up for the day, and then I found those! Talk about a close call! Thanks for watching 🥰
Tht huge bladder moon snail 🐌 whoaaaa my 1st fav ❤😍
But when u pulled the thorny oyster 🦪 out from the sand, I almost screamed......
Sooo gorgeous,isn't it?
Thanks for another great informative video Maddie 🎉❤
G'day Nelly 👋🏻💖 Hehe, it's always fun to find a big moon snail 🐌 it's coloured are really unique too, I don't often see brown ones like that! Oh haha, pulling that thorny oyster out of the sand was really good, I didn't expect it to be a full piece 🤩 it was a very lucky find!! The spikes and textures on it are just lovely too!! Thank you so much Nelly, I'm really glad that you enjoyed the big adventure today 🥰
Hello friend from south Georgia USA! That beautiful hand size WOW spinny shell, we call it a spinny oyster jewel box. Beautiful find! Thank U so much for a wonderful, blessed adventure. Stay safe and God bless🥰
G’day Sandy 👋🏻🐚 Hello to you in Georgia! Oh, I have seen the Spiny Jewel Boxes from Florida, that are also quite lovely! Are they oysters though, I thought they were more like a Venus clam? They certainly don’t get as big as this Thorny Oyster!! Thank you so much for watching this big adventure today 🥰
The long spine thorny oyster is gorgeous and my favourite today. The flat scallops and wentletraps get my special mentions today.
G'day Oceanluvn Gal 👋🏻🏖️💖 The textures and spikes on that Thorny Oyster are just fabulous 🤩 the others I've found here have been much more worn down, so this one was a lovely surprise to pull from the sand 😲 Oh gosh, the flats and Wentletraps were just stunning today too. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Wow! So many beautiful shells. I love the scallop flats and the wentletraps.
G'day Alisha 👋🏻🐚 It was a really wonderful day, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! The scallop flats are just the best; I never have luck finding them at the other beaches I usually visit. And the Wentletraps, well well, this place is just really special for them!!? Thank you for watching this big adventure 🥰
Hi Maddie, my favorite way to start my day with my favorite, lamalite Venus and flat scallops. Wentletraps are creeping up to first place. Enjoy your weekend. 🐚🐌🐕🇺🇲😊
G'day Guadalupe 👋🏻💖 Oh wow, I'm so glad that I could show you these flats and Lamellate Venuses to start your day with 🤩 they're really cool shells! The Wentletraps, my goodness, they just seem to be popping up everywhere 🐚❤️ I hope you had a wonderful weekend too, and thanks for watching 🥰
My absolute favorite for this trip is the long spined thorny oyster❤ then the Arabic wentletrap❤ then lamellate Venus,of course I adore them all. Thanks for the look at your common surf clam😊
You channel is officially my favorite shelling channel!
G'day Denise 👋🏻💖 Woohoo, that Thorny Oyster sure was amazing 🤩 I'm so glad that you liked seeing it too! The Arabic Wentletrap is pretty amazing too, it's so unusual for a Wentletrap 🐚 ohoh, and the multitude of Lamellate Venuses get a mention as well ❤️ Oh goodness Denise, thank you very much for your generous compliment 💖 I know there are quite a few awesome shelling channels out there that I can only hope to match some day! Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰
Another amazing wentletrap. The moon snails and flats were lovely colors. Best find was the thorny oyster.
G'day Diane 👋🏻💖 That Thorny Oyster was just fabulous, right?! The textures and spikes on his were awesome; definitely the best that I've found so far! An of course, I always love the flats and moon snails from here too, it's what keeps me going back up there!! Thanks for watching 🥰
Awesome Maddie. Wow. New Wentletraps Arabic and Stigmatic. Love them both. Long spined thorny Oyster, Two toned Cardita. Great finds. Thank you so much. Snow on snow on snow. Not snowman building snow but lots of it. Next week in 40's and then back down in 30's. Really weird winter. I promise I will not send the snow to Australia. You take care and lots of sunscreen. XXOO. TRUDY
G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖 Oh yes, the new Wentletraps were very exciting! It's definitely my first time getting a Stigmatic Wentletrap, but I actually have a small and more broken Arabic Wentletrap at home...I don't remember now when I picked it up 😅 they are so cool though! Oh gosh, the Thorny Oyster is certainly the crowd favourite this time 😁 and wow, the Cardita got a special mention too; I though it almost got overlooked this time! So much snow, Trudy!! Would you live further south if you could? I guess then you'd have hot summer instead 🥵 but still, the snow sounds nicer than the heat and humidity we've had here lately. I'll keep up with the sunscreen, or better yet during a heatwave; stay inside! Thanks for watching 🥰
Another beautiful video with wonderful shells. ❤️ 🥰
G'day Nikoleta 👋🏻🐚🏖️ Thank you so, so much 🤩 I think I'll remember this trip for a long time 😁 Thanks for being here on another big adventure 🥰
@@ShellingAdventures You're welcome, Maddie 🫠.
For me the wentletraps are the favorite for today. Hope you have an amazing week.
G'day Sherry 👋🏻🐚 Those Wentletraps are just the best 🤩 I didn't give that Arabic Wentletrap enough credit on the day; I have one other that's half the size and half broken, so finding this larger one is such "good" condition is actually quite noteworthy for me 😲 I hope you have a lovely week as well ❤️ Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Maddie, I never thought about standing on that thorny oyster, a very uncomfortable experience!
It has been snowy, Icey, windy
So just going out to walk dogs. It’s so lovely to watch you in the sunshine❤
G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 Hahaha, I recon it would hurt!! I mean, there aren't a lot of walkers on this beach, but I'm sure most of them wear shoes...these's too many shells to trip over otherwise!!
Oh gosh, snow snow snow, you're not the first one to tell me about snow this time; I guess winter has well and truly set in. Please stay warm...uhh, where do you walk your dogs in that weather 😅 I would be too afraid to take them out!! Well, dogs need to walk, so what can you do? We have had a heatwave for the last four days... I would have traded that for snow!! Send me cool thoughts ❄️
Wow! Beautiful finds❤️
G'day Noel 👋🏻🏖️ I was certainly blessed this time; I was quite spoiled by this beach 😊 Thank you so much for watching the big adventure today 🥰
Hi Maddie, Beautiful Flats to start the adventure!! The Long Spined Thorny Oyster has to take first place 🥇 Love it 😍 The Bladder Moon Snail at 6:15 is my second favorite 🤩 So Unique 😮 The Formidable Turrid gets third place 🥉 Shoutout to the Acorn Dog Welk! Cute little shell 🐚 Thanks Maddie for another fun Adventure!! TTFN 👋🏼 ❤
G'day Mimi 👋🏻💖 This is the longest it's taken me to get back to a comment, I am so behind!! Thank you so much for your beautiful messages ❤️ I'm so glad that you liked the awesome Thorny Oyster, along with the special Bladder Moon Snail 🐌 and you know, I'm glad that you liked the Acorn Dog Whelk too, because it's super underrated, I feel. As always Mimi, thank you so much for watching this big adventure 🥰
🐞Once again it’s the propeller arch. Thanks. 🐞
G'day Pearl 👋🏻🏖️ I'm glad I found a few lovely Propeller Arcs to show you 🐚 they're really cool shells! Thanks for watching 🥰
Maddie!!!! You've become a Wentletrap magnet 😁
G'day Susan 👋🏻💖 I haven't found any cone shells to show you in a while, but I certainly found the Wentletraps instead! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Hi Maddie, that thorny oyster shell was lovely! A very successful trip I would say. Those moon snail shells are so varied in their colourings, beautiful.
A very full and and exciting display at the end. ❤xxx
G'day Alison 👋🏻💖🏖️ Oh my goodness, I was so surprised when that Thorny Oyster popped out whole from the sand 🤩 also, I wouldn't want to step on one of those: ouch?!! The moon snails were particularly colourful this time, I feel like I was really spoiled; I feel like it's been a while since I had a good stroke of luck with them 🐌❤️ they certainly made the shell display look nice at the end ✨ As always, thank you so much for watching 🥰 I hope you're keeping warm over there!
Hi Maddie Love Those Flats ❤❤❤
G'day Judy 👋🏻💖 It was a terrific day for the flats!! Looking back while editing the video, I was amused by how disappointed I sounded when I flipped over the white flat...I think it's my favourite now because I reckon it's albinistic? Never found a partially albino Commercial Scallop before; it's pretty cool! Thanks for watching 🥰
Nice collection today! I think that spondylus was pretty cool! A tie for my favourite with the colourful wentletrap.
G'day Reet 👋🏻💖 The Spondylus was a pretty nice one! I still hope that I'll find a joined one someday with super deadly spikes, but this one is just awesome as is 🤩!! That Wentletrap was kind of amazing too, the colour is so nice. The black in it was black sand; I got most of it out now, so it's a lovely yellow and white colour. Thanks for watching the big adventure today 🥰
Hi maddie❤wentletraps are gorgeous.loves from Türkiye❤❤❤❤
G'day Hurriyet 👋🏻💖 I hope the weather is being kind to you in Türkiye, because it's far too hot here 🤣 Anyway! The Wentletraps were just lovely today...three different species if I count the big Precious Wentletrap from the last episode (earlier that morning), what a great day! Thanks for watching 🥰
Very good video.
I love that you have the names on the screen.
G'day Argita 👋🏻🐚 Oh my goodness, thank you for saying so 😁 it's a lot of extra work to put the names on screen, but I do it because I think it helps or interests a lot of people 🤩 Thanks for watching 🥰
Oh Maddie, Epitonium stigmaticum is a very good find😊🤗
G'day Mikhail 👋🏻💖 It's in lovely condition 🤩 the shell is just perfect!! I think it's an Epitomium stigmaticum...but I'm not sure? It's so hard to know with these species. I hope I got it right 👍🏻 Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰
@@ShellingAdventures G'day Maddie😊 I think you identified the species correctly, Maddie. I really don’t understand them well😂, the genus Epitonium includes a lot of species, but still it seems to me that you identified it correctly🤗
@@mikhail-tikhonov Yes, so, so many Epitonium shells, and even more Epitoniidae! What really helped me was this link here: seashellsofnsw.org.au/Epitoniidae/Pages/Epitoniidae_plate_1.htm I thought number 15 was the most like the wentletrap I found... Epitonium stigmaticum was NOT in my sea shell books! Thank goodness for this website.
@@ShellingAdventures Oh yeah Maddie! It is very good that now it is possible to use Internet resources to identify shells. Shell identification guides are excellent books, but sometimes it’s not always possible to accurately identify the right shell using them🙂
Love the thorny oyster and both wentletraps. Maddie how many kinds of wendtletraps are in Australia? Some new shells to me also. Australia has the most amazing variety of of shells to find. Great video!😊
G'day Jan 👋🏻💖 There were some very interesting and beautiful shells this time 🐚🤩! Loved that thorny oyster. As for how many different kind of Wentletraps there are, I'm not actually sure...probably dozens of different species if I had to guess. Australia is a very large country (an entire continent in fact) and if I'm correct, I've found at least 10 different types of Wentletraps here in South East Queensland alone. There must be heaps of others in other parts of Australia too... The shells here are quite exciting, aren't they!!? Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰
I've been trying to find a Bladder moon snail shell. But all I find is moon snail shells. Is there another name for them? In the US we just have shark eyes and they look like the bladder moon snail but the colors are a little different.
G'day Jasmine 👋🏻🐚 Oh yes, if you're living in the USA, then your top search result will probably always be the shark eye moon snails. The Shark Eyes are called Neverita duplicata as the scientific name. The Bladder Moon Snails are Neverita didyma. Try to search internationally for Neverita didyma. I must admit,I don't usually see them for sale (not a popular one for sale???) but they may pop up from time to time. Good luck 🤞🏻 and remember that the grey green ones will probably be a MUCH lighter colour online; mine also becomes very light after the shell material itself dries out after a few months. Good luck once again, and thank you so much for watching 🥰
Hi Maddie, Do the Bladder Moon Snails keep the same dark colors when you bring them home? Great shells. Thank you.
G’day Brenda 👋🏻🐚 Oh, I actually answered this question a few weeks ago, so I'm just going to copy and paste my response from then! Those grey-green bladder moon snails, and the blue/grey sordid moon snails do change to a much lighter colour after a while. It takes weeks though, even a month or more for the full change. It believe that that shells are dark like that because the shell material itself is still wet (it’s more like the colours of the wet sand) and when it dries out, it’s like the colour of the dry sand at the back wrackline. If I put mineral oil on them while they are still dark, and stored them in an air tight container, they would probably start dark for an indefinite amount of time, I guess? Anyway, yes, their colours do lighten considerably! Thanks for watching 🥰
