Same. I cant even explain how excited I was watching Rey win the WHC live, especially him being my favorite. Same w/ the Rumble, I never thought it would happen. Me & Mom were watching both, I was one of the happiest kids in the world those 2 nights. Lol

Regarding Kurt moving to Smackdown and winning the World heavyweight title in Jan 2006, it wasn't just Batista's major injury. Eddie Guerrero's untimely death two months earlier left a major superstar void for the Smackdown brand. They needed a quick "shot in the arm" with star power and Kurt gave that to them.

Memories of 10 year old me praying Rey Mysterio pulled it off at Wrestlemania 22. This was the biggest thing ever for me back then. Kurt Angle was a scary champion and Randy Orton was an arrogant young punk.

Shaky start for the first few episodes with the occasional short term memory loss, but 8 episodes in, and Kurt seems to have found his groove. Even doing his own intro now! Good to see/hear. I think the show's just gonna get better as Kurt relaxes.

@@matthewalkman386 Absolutely. It's good, not only because we get to re-live some of Kurt's personality, humour and goofiness, but also because I was a bit worried about his health. The last thing we need is Kurt losing his mind on-air. But whatever tactics he's using, whether it be increased research and prep, or notes to hand or whatever, I'm just glad he's relatively ok mentally.

Eddie dying was the only reason Rey won the title. Fans knew that and that's why he was booed. They can blame it on the Chicago crowd all they want, but he would have been booed most everywhere else as well, except maybe in the Southwest with a large hispanic population.

    • @angrymobsters1599

True, but Chicago is notorious for being a tough crowd to please. They can see through bullshit especially rosemont or united center. Philly was also like this. Alot of states have a casual crowds that will soak up anything. Chicago was tough to please. Thats why they avoid all the hardcore wrestling cities nowadays lol

Angle was heavily cheered in his wm22 match and he got a great pop! His wrestling machine character was also so awesome and vicious! Seldom you see such characters develop and come to fruition. But its Kurt freaking Angle!! I think everybody realized that Rey was getting the belt as pity and didn't deserve the belt when there were players like Angle and Taker in the mix! Rey Mysterio should have got a marquee match that year but the main event should have been Angle vs Taker!

11:40 the fact that Goldberg was seen as being booked incorrectly by having longer matches is exactly why I do not rate him as the best, and even put Batista, Triple H, Cena and Brock ahead of him (to be clear I have the Undertaker, Kurt, Rock and Austin ahead of them, and consider the wrestling of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and, begrudgingly, Chris Benoit, to be better as well). Goldberg had some incredible moves in his arsenal and, of course, looked the part of an unstoppable force; however, that draw of having short squash matches was soldered to his character, as Kurt is pointing out in this interview.
In hindsight, if what WWE did with Goldberg was wrong with regards to his lengthened match style in the early 2000s, how was he really supposed to work with other top stars that wouldn't be squashed like his forgettable Monday Nitro opponents (rhetorical question)?

The reason Saturday night main event didnt do good is because we knew it wasn't going to be a main show like Raw. This simply doesnt hold interest for today's audience. You also have to remember they didnt have raw and smackdown when they debuted the show originally. You would of had to have weeks of great cards for fans to believe in it

Orton was 26 at this time. And 22 when he was brought to the main roster full time for the first time. Can't use "he's a kid" excuse. Don't bring him up if you don't think he's ready yet. There's other young superstars who didn't have the benefit of being related to a HOF, or protected by future HOF's.

Like Kurt or his agent had a talk with him and let him know not to take him off guard again so all the questions we hear Kurt answering it sounds like he knows they are coming and has rehearsed his answers.
At the beginning of this one Kurt introduces the show and says something like here is Conrad the man with all the tough questions.
