Love this thing. I don't have a use for it but dead set more excited for this review than most things you've done recently. Good to see you having fun with the review too.
Thks for the awesome review. I took a highlander for a test drive a fortnight ago and was over the moon. Ive got a big family and they enjoyed the space and technology. I also test drove a carnival platinum diesel and even though i found the aesthetic look plus the driver side arm rest more appealing the carnival lost me on the seating. You cant get 3 adults in the middle or back as my 14 yr old struggled in between. I test drove a toyota prado and found that even though it has the middle row curb side seat folding to allow you to get to the back its not practical when you have a baby seat which you then need to place on the road side. The Staria's middle row road side seat folds to get to the back which then allows me to put my baby seat to the middle row curb side. Ive booked one in last week. Expected delivery 4-6 months.
I wish we in the USA could get a lot of the vehicles you test drive and review. It’s quite tiring to have a multitude of laws and regulations that protect industries.
USA has way better options compare to Australia. You will be suprise how many American pick ups rolling on the streets nowadays in AU. I'm waiting USA to release transit AWD in Australia.
Hi Tom, great review as always mate. Looks great outside and inside. I like the AWD spec but never too sure about diesel as a fuel, I’ve heard Diesel engines are not ideal if you are only doing short distances ie like under 10km a couple of times a day on weekdays. And why does some diesel cars need adblue and some don’t? Thanks in advance for your advice
It only replaces the iMax and iLoad here because we didn't import the Grand Starex and Grand Starex Royale, which are what the Staria range- including the Lounge that we won't get here- actually replaces as passenger vehicles. Press and set your buttons before you drive off. It's illegal in all states and territories to be faffing around with distractions in the vehicle whilst driving. A pity we won't get the top-of-the-range Lounge option with the second-row captain's chairs. Unless we kick up a stink about it and Hyundai change their mind. CarExpert reckons the diesel engine is somewhat anæmic in both power and torque, yet you say it's fit-for-purpose. I suppose I'll have to take one out for a run. I do have plenty of room in one- and I'm 194-198 cm and 119 Kg. How it would feel sitting in the driver's seat for a peak-hour run from Brisbane to the Gold or Sunshine Coast remains to be seen. The Staria has it all over the Merc except for poncy hotel staff that want something "Euro" on its driveway. Passengers, in my experience really have little care as to the badging. Comfort and room are paramount in this respect.
Looks great , Hyundai has been on a roll of late with their design/products. This will take sales from the upmarket MB vito vans. Hotels , corporate fleet and Uber black operators will be on it like white on rice .. Tom as usual Great review !
Looking forward to a Carnival v Staria comparison. Families using child booster seats should note differences in seat configurations when using 3 rows.
After watching this, I went back and watched some Carnival reviews from earlier in the year. Seems like the Carnival is more polished and a better choice if you don't *need* the AWD? The folding third row seats are especially clever. If they roll out the MY22 Carnival with the digital dash and the local steering tune as promised, that'd be my pick.
I love the design. The rear design reminds me on my all time favorit, the Mitsubishi Grandis. Hyundai nails it. Unfortunately there is no electric version.
I'd prefer Captain's chairs in the second row. Diesel + AWD is good value at only $3K more than the thirsty V6 petrol. Love the window depth, but the curvaceous front is at odds with the slab like rear. Carnival for me.
Thanks for the great video and first review. Do you know anything about the Staria's towing capacities? In the Australian specs, towing power is listed with 2.500 kg, in Germany for whatever reason only with 1.500 kg which seems far too low for that kind of vehicle...
Tom, ever driven a late model (2010-2021) SUV without a center armrest in either (gawd forbid), the front or even rear passenger seat at this, or any price?? Hyundai OZ ask 70K for this and it features non, yet all other markets have it as standard....My neighbour just bought the rather smart looking LDV G10 Executive for 40K drive away and his features 90% of what is standard on the Hyundai.
loved it when i first saw it but it's kinda fading on me now. i do like that limited edition batch of cheapo cream load versions on the interceptor-type rims tho. but yeah, this is just tarago all over again, whether hyundai likes it or not. can't blame them, this is about as good as it gets when it comes to the category. although, of the lot, the carnival's design is possibly the most 'timeless', it would now seem. plus kia have the redesigned badge, which also gets them more points.
The buyers of this car must have neck problems and are unable to turn around to look at their passengers, so they rely on the passenger view camera instead. Also thank you Hyundai for not naming your car after a cinema screen.
....man.... looks cool....it looks French - in a good way...though the dash...but hey, did I mention France.😀 But it all works and a massive step forward over iMax
The larger the screen gets on the Korean cars the more egregious it is they haven't updated their UI for RHD cars. I think it's time for it to be called out.
Love the design but hate that it has light modules in exactly most vulnerable place. even if you hit it a bit it will move a bit and change you light beam pattern. design over function shit and specially designed to give you troubles
It’s homers future car, Hyundai missed the mark and maybe shouldn’t approved designs from the CEO’s son. Backwards step would hate to be a sales rep for Hyundai if this cars on my quota
Revolutionary design, I applaud their boldness
Not a fan of the looks, but I do applaud the effort to push boundaries in design.
Love this thing. I don't have a use for it but dead set more excited for this review than most things you've done recently. Good to see you having fun with the review too.
I saw it yesterday and 👌 one must see it in real! It's very progressive.
That driver side window is huge!
….brighter than the sun ….Russel Crowe should get one ….hey Moonman🤣

Free Market btw

Ioniq 5, this Staria... Cyberpunk cars. Great work Hyundai.
AWD makes things interesting. Staria N soon?
Thanks, Tom and CC crew! Very interesting vehicle indeed! Electric version? Yes please!
you do a great job. Great video as always and well researched and sensible reviews.
If I was in this market, I’d still go for a Kia Carnival. Good review Tom!👍🏼😎
I can see the Staria as a pimped up gangsta’s vehicle cruising along the beach with lowrider
air suspension.
Finally! An AWD van!
It's better than that it also has true 50/50 4WD! You could cross the Simpson Desert in this thing.

I love the way it looks!
Love the futuristic look - the base model Staria has a digital instrument cluster as well, but for some reason it has a hood/cowl on top

Hyundai are turning out some futuristic looking vehicles. Any idea when you might be posting the review of the Tucson Elite Diesel Tom?
Looks great , Hyundai has been on a roll of late with their design/products. This will take sales from the upmarket MB vito vans. Hotels , corporate fleet and Uber black operators will be on it like white on rice .. Tom as usual Great review !
The big down side to the imax and iload was the ox cart rear suspension. Any lose fillings would certainly fall out of the smallest of bumps.
Thanks for first Staria review. Sad you skipped AC control panel. It looked all touch screen only, is it?
Kinda reminded me of the XR10/20 series Tarago/Estima lol
Not a fan of any vans/mpv. But this looks so good!!
I love the way it looks, I don't see what's not to like.
Death before a dribble bus, but that is a great looking van. Well done Hyundai.
Passenger view is great for keeping an eye on the kids.
Looking forward to a Carnival v Staria comparison.
Families using child booster seats should note differences in seat configurations when using 3 rows.
Sucks they don't sell this in the US
Love the design. Shame the front seats don't have built-in armrests. I assume its due to internal airbags

According to their official video, they seem to prepare the hydrogen electronic car.
I'd prefer Captain's chairs in the second row. Diesel + AWD is good value at only $3K more than the thirsty V6 petrol.
Love the window depth, but the curvaceous front is at odds with the slab like rear. Carnival for me.
Interesting look. First thought was ... am I looking at some kitchen appliance on wheels like a toaster or coffee maker?
What’s the location? So much snow.
Revolutionary design you may think it an electric car
Thanks for the great video and first review. Do you know anything about the Staria's towing capacities? In the Australian specs, towing power is listed with 2.500 kg, in Germany for whatever reason only with 1.500 kg which seems far too low for that kind of vehicle...

But it all works and a massive step forward over iMax
Love the exterior but wish it had more power and a better interior
Waiting for Subaru wrx review
Hyundai should've done a folding tailgate
Love the style but hoped it was all electric
I love it
4:43 good sire, there is no such thing as a "clean large fam"
No arm-rest for driver?!
I’m sorry but it look absolutely feral, I was loving the new looks of Hyundai, but this is just…
Potrebbe essere una soluzione alternativa al solito van
No front seat arm rest
Side windows are too big, will be a hot house during summer
All it’s missing is arm rests
Hating the low window line which is almost level with your thighs? Your whole body seems to be protected by glass only.
is it just me the staria looks like the Robocop helmet?
It looks like a Hawaii router 🤦🏿♂️
K should've replaced his peugeot with this in 2049
liecence plate really looks like European plates
The larger the screen gets on the Korean cars the more egregious it is they haven't updated their UI for RHD cars. I think it's time for it to be called out.
Absolutely not my style of vehicle. Nonetheless, the striking design is a winner!
A freaky touch for a boring design - brilliant effort
Son of 1999 Tarago
Love the design but hate that it has light modules in exactly most vulnerable place. even if you hit it a bit it will move a bit and change you light beam pattern. design over function shit and specially designed to give you troubles
it looks like a premature jellybean
It’s homers future car, Hyundai missed the mark and maybe shouldn’t approved designs from the CEO’s son. Backwards step would hate to be a sales rep for Hyundai if this cars on my quota
This is cheaper version
O.O
Robocop
looks like some cheap chinese van
Lol, that’s the idiotic comment of the year.
Does China even make vans?
