I tied this fly using your recipe last week. Haven't tied anything for a couple of years. Thanks George, it caught me a lot of fish this evening up North. Got the buzz of catching with your own flies again😊
@@springerspanielfulI hunt as well, mainly deer and boar. If I told you how they hunted duck, you would be shocked; head shots with a .22 whilst on the water. Rick O Shea is alive and well😳 If you ever find yourself in Germany, happy to take you out for a day or three to experience German trout. Despite the rumours to the contrary, German cooking is fabulous, and they love their spuds!
Just started watching the channel love it just started fly fishing but had a red setter for past 5 years working her dad was from top stock in Ireland just wanted to say thank you very much and really learn something every time I view
Hi Man, this is right on the money, your sparkle dun is great a real winner. I have been watching some " fly " tying and fishing videos from across the pond. It's not just Texas that's big, some of their flies are like the head of a yard brush. Even the lure chuckers in the put and take call the lures flies. Bloody hell some birds are flying around with less feathers on their Butt. Keep her lit and stay safe .Reg
Brilliant George . What’s impressed me most is that 9’ no3 . This video really shows the delicate presentation. The run was flat calm so presentation was vital . Great video and of course fly 🇮🇪👌 Aná Mhaith , Slán go fól 🇮🇪🇮🇪
Brilliant session! Those Irish limestone streams must rank alongside the Itchen and Test in England, superb quality of fish and fly hatches. Half a dozen of those could have been my fish of the season on the stream I fish! 👍
Hi there, great to see not a mile of tying silk at start of the fly cut of and wasted, tight Scotsman eh ha ha ha . Your vids are most enjoyable and a treat to watch, more please and cheers the noo .
Feeling like its the total sumbof disturbance that determines the spookiness of the fish, the cast delicacy, line weight delicacy. Leader shyness is vastly exggerated...That said nymps move more freely with undesized tippets. But light tippets is a hazzele and hurts the cast dynamics...my 5 cents. Conclusion 2 to 4 weight lines catch fish, with a 5 weight a double taper rules. Thanks for excellent work, love the dry fly action in rivers.
@@springerspanielful It's funny. When I do oil painting everything I see when I am walking around before or after relates to painting; the colors I see, shapes I see, etc. Everything becomes more noticeable. I've been tying a lot recently, and as soon as I saw your video, first thing I thought was "That guys beard would make some great tying material". 😆
Hi George, great stuff again. I heard you say you put floatant on the leader to within 2 feet of the fly. Would you put fullers earth or some kind of mud on the last 2 feet. What kind of tippet do you use.P'S that fly is letal
Best not to touch the leader nearest the fly, but if it floats a rub of mud can sometimes do the trick. I'm struggling to find reliable tippet material, will let you know if I find anything that does the business. Thanks for your interaction.
Thanks for your observation, I have tried all manner of casts in this particular spot to little avail re drag, however I caught them later using a sedge, so a victory of sorts.
The Sparkle dun,dry fly extraordinaire, sit back and learn to tie the fly and then see how to catch wild brown trout on your creation.

What i like about your fly tying is that the proof is in the pudding, when you cast and land fish. Grand job. Michael
Thanks Michael, glad you enjoy the vids.

Super cool video! I was there with you.
Cool, thanks!
Your video's are freaking excellent, and the dog in the background only makes it better. Thanks for them!
Appreciate it,thanks a million.
Fishing with the fly after making it really brings the video together George. Very enjoyable
Cheers Vinny, it's all part of the fun.
Excellent tying, & fishing, looks great
Thank you for your input..

Thanks Peter..
Nice fly will give thos a go , thanks
Have fun
Great action. Warts and all.
Indeed.
Great fly, great footage, what make is your 9ft 3w
That rod was built around a Loomis IMX blank around 30 years ago in Portlaw Co. Waterford..old tech now but still an effective tool.
@@springerspanielful looks nice and soft
@@ericlong9085 It has softened somewhat over the years,it was much faster actioned.
9:40 on the video, yes I think it was a salmon you can see a huge splash far left of screen!
I reckon so.
Nine little fly will it work on all rivers where there are duns in the day or just evening
Works at anytime, however during a hatch it shines.
Excellent video George and superb fishing. Enjoyed every minute... it was like being there with you lol.. Brilliant !!
Thanks Daithí.
Maybe a furled leader and rollcast better choice...?
I can see no practical reason for furled leaders in any scenario.
maybe try a slack line cast?
In that particular spot the drag is virtually impossible to defeat.
Do you by chance sell off part of your beard to use as post or tail material? 🤣
Open to offers..

hi George love your videos ...would cdc work instead of deer hair my deer hair seems to be too sparse and messy to get a nice even wing...
Andrew, cdc will work but it won't last but for a couple of fish, the deerhair is what makes it really last and work.
The camera is very nervous. It's no fun to watch the video. What a pity!
Ya, I've upgraded since.
Enjoyed the video. I think you have the rod tip far too high and too much slack line.
