I am a Baby Boomer born in the mid-40s right after WWIII ended, and my daughter was born in ‘73 just as Vietnam was winding down. She loves the 70s Rock at least as much as I do, and I have told her the music then was so good because the times were so intense. Plus, at that time people had to know how to actually make the music, not just know what buttons to push on a synthesizer. I believe music reflects the times it is made in, and so much was going on then. Listening to it keeps me young today, even tho the times are still messed up. We need Responsible Leadership and a return to worship in the Lord or we will suffer dire consequences.
I am so incredibly fortunate to have attended this event. It was amazing. Around a half million people! My friend and i worked our way almost to the stage, making our way until it was literally human gridlock. We each had a six pack of beer and people were eyeing the beer like they'd never seen it before, because no one could move or go anywhere. i thought they were going to jump us for it. But we gladly gave what we had, people were offering obscene amounts of money for it. But we didn't take any of it. Being at that show was a one in a million experience. Being in the center of that mass of humanity was indescribable. R.I.P Bill Graham.
Best ever in my book. I'm an old hippie girl and know my favorites. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young are my favorite ever however so many followed in their footsteps. Love these guys ❤
There are those of us who understand the times, the musicians and the music they made as a result of that very particular time in history. Those who weren't even born yet can comment and criticize all they want but unfortunately for them, they just don't get it and never will. Glad to have been around for some of that history.

For those commenting about the lack of practice, this was a little more than a week after Bill Graham died in the helicopter crash. That they could bring together so many musicians on a moment's notice and organize a concert that attracted 300,000 people was a tribute to what Bill meant to the music community. I woke up that morning and walked over just as the sun was coming up. The fog was billowing through the trees. It was quiet, eerie and quite beautiful. Along the walk through the park, I was running into people who had flown in or drove in from far away. This was a celebration of the life of a man who helped spawn a pivotal moment in time. So, people stopped their lives to go pay tribute to Bill. The fog soon lifted and it was a wonderful day for a heartfelt concert. Because I was there early for the entire day, I was right up at the stage. I could see only wall-to-wall people, many having climbed trees around the perimeter. It seemed like people were there rejoicing a recently passed era and what it stood for, but perhaps also lamenting that Bill's death meant the era was not going to return. That concert was a powerful day for the attendees and, I'm sure, for the musicians.

Nash was never really good in the live concerts, especially when he was doing drugs and used to simply scream into the microphone. And any harmonies with Young included are guaranteed to be god awful. Individually they sound pretty good. Together they are a bit rough to say the least.
i worked for Bill Graham doing concert security. i worked at many venues from San Francisco to Oakland stadium to Shoreline Amphitheater to San Jose auditorium. I have worked many special concerts that only Bill Graham can muster up. I feel ever so privileged to have that job on my resume. THIS concert was the most special because of the reason it was put together and by WHO it was put together by...Bills son David. I had opportunity to work with David a couple times and David is very smart. I told David it must have been a pain in the butt to organize and David told me that he just put the word out and the artists called HIM wanting to play over his Dad. THAT is respect!

Yes, a great one. That song always makes me cry a little, thinking about the event that inspired David Crosby to write it -- the assasination of Bobby Kennedy. That night is a terrible memory for many of us.
I was there! Was hanging out with some old flower children & they were crying hard when CSNY went on. Amazing concert! RIP Bill. #FillmoreDays #GreenApples #UncleBoBo
Best concert I ever attended was sept 4 / 1974 varsity stadium - university of Toronto. CSN&Y & the Band. Clearly Remember being there & remember exactly where we were sitting. Also remember smoking cashmere hash …. was super high. Opened their set with “Love the one your with” was great show the stadium was packed & all was peaceful. Many CSN&Y vids popping up … it’s been few days since we lost David Crosby. Although I never met David kind of feel like lost a good friend. RIP ✌️❤️
I was lucky enough to happen to be in SF after a series of Halloween grateful dead concerts. 19 yrs old and my mind was consistently blown daily. First with my first Dead shows(3!) Then seeing so many bands for free in Golden gate park I think the estimated# of people attending was upwards of 300,000. It was unforgettable
We were so very fortunate to have seen this great wave of music as we were growing up. So many of this music became a guidepost for me. From falling in love for the first time, to the war going on in a foreign nation, to understanding what we are all meant to be here for.... the message I always took was be true to yourself and harm no others. These guys had such a strong impact on my developing mind as a young woman and throughout the years as we say the changes they were going through and so we're all of us.
I was there at this concert. I remember feeling like I was in dream on Southern Cross, how powerfully Teach Your Children hit at the beginning, and how Ohio stopped my heart... Now David Crosby has died, Jan. 18th, 2023. We have lost a legend.
I was there also. First time I ever saw all 4 together....as well as first time in Golden Gate Fields for any event. I remember the feeling of love in the crowd and us singing along to every artist's song we could recognize. Love the cherished memories and the tribute to Bill and now to David! Let their legends carry on!✌️
me too :). a free concert w/ the Dead and CSNY in GG Park? legendary send off to Bill G. ( i doubt these guys would have played anywhere together if not for the occasion of BG's death........ Bill Grahm died in a helicopter crash returning to Marin from Concord Pavilion show his company was producing...... i do not know what the show was but i can definitly see bill making the trip to welcome whoever it was. he could have stayed home but it was important to see them personally and welcome them....class act ....)
@@SanFranciscoFatboy It was a Huey Lewis & the News benefit show. I don't think he felt compelled to go welcome them - Lewis was a Marin local, born and raised - but rather because he (Graham) had organized the benefit show for victims of the East Bay hills firestorm earlier that year, and asked Lewis to headline the show. So he was there first and foremost as the event organizer. Still, that's another sign that he was a class act!
One of the most incredible awake/ aware/loving/ power ppl in the world..and the 🌎 is a way better place due to what this gentleman puts out..I would be honored to meet that fella,✌️🙋🌎✌️👉👈✅🕯️🌟💫❤️🌈
wow.. all these years I thought it was Stills' lead vocal on the "Ohio" outro. It makes sense that it was Crosby all this time. Some amazing chemistry with those 4 guys.
It was crazy sadness and heavy hearts for us who grew up with BGP, from the Fillmore Bill and Jerry handing out apples to all of us coming to see a show or in the panhandle with the Dead and all the bands over time on a flat bed truck, a generator and live music. I was with a friend who worked for Bill in the office and we lived in Oakland. She asked me if I would pack her over on my Harley. It was the only way. We did a lot of lane sharing. Got to the back entrance and she gave the person there a big hug, and she knew everybody. She just told me to hang out. I did that, back stage and time went by. I don't remember leaving, but we did and we were probably numb for months.
I was there. I felt honored to have attended. At points I was nearly in tears. The day after the helicopter crash, on my way to work on Highway 37, I saw the crashed copter still hanging from the power covered in cloths...The bodies had not yet been removed. 😮💨
I saw them perform at Irvine Meadows in 1988. They sounded just as good as ever with everyone having a great time and passing a joint around in the audience. It was a pleasant and warm full moon night that is unforgettable with the smoke and smell of pot rising up in the air filling us up with peace and contentment and a unification as one of the same spirit joined together to create an atmosphere that can never be duplicated ever again. It was a special time in history to grab a guitar and play some good music that has a meaning behind it. I certainly was taken back in time to another place to be relieved once again. I have been playing their music on my guitar for many years now. And I would have wanted the chance to play along with them. With David Crosby being gone, that chance will never be able to happen.
It was a tearful day to remember Bill Gram who had died in a helicopter accident 358,000 fans gathered to listen to Bills fans pay there respects I was honored to work with the Deads Clean up crew the park was cleaner then we found it we miss you Uncle BoBo
Say love my brother I was living in San Francisco then and my dear friend was running bgp presents and the flooring is 1:30 in the morning after bill was leaving a Huey Lewis show on the other side of the bay! Either which way my friend Eric called me what do I do what I do? Call David he did call me back I was the first person to other bil-jac what a shame
Bill Graham produced the most amazing concerts. He had great respect for the audience, and we felt that from the time in line before the shows to afterwards. When I was at school in Chicago, concerts were run as if we were all in prison. The police often walked up and down the aisles, often arresting audience members for the slightest offense. We were not allowed to stand or dance to the music. Flash lights were often pointed at our faces. Back in California, the shows produced by Bill were parties. His sister served soup before the show. Bill played volley ball along with audience members. Staff would distribute water, apples, oranges, an other items. The Haight-Asbury Free Clinic staffed a medical staff to care for anyone who over-indulged. The mix of musical guests were eclectic, so the audience was exposed to musical styles they had never heard. Bill and his organization made concert production an art form. His loss shocked us all. This concert was a celebration of his life. During the concert, a DC-3 flew above the audience dropping roses. Truly a Bill Graham-style nice touch.
what was i thinking. i went late to this, as csn y was ending. got very close for Grateful Dead...who had a fantastic unbelievable set. but, i would trade that for this. CSN gotta be my most listened to pandora station. i am a fanatic of theirs. reason i went late was i had a two month old son...remember i drove up from san bruno and parked outside. made my way up very close. hell in a bucket was dead opener....i have taped eight hundred cassette since hearing the dead that day ..
I was also at that free concert for Bill in Golden Gate Park Polo grounds. What a show! I remember the 'Dead'...Santana, and lots more. An old C-46 flew slowly over the crowd dropping flowers on everyone....A day to remember.... RIP Bill Graham....
Polo grounds 93 WOMAD festival. Yeah Ziggy Marley Peter Gabriel Even Wavy Gravy was there Sardine can experience but my buddy and I met some nice girls and took them for drinks at the Cliffhouse it was cool
Was at this concert. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young played a great set list and gig, along with many other bands/artists paying tribute to Bill. Meet Wavy Gravy up towards the front stage area before the concert started that morning. He gave me this cool psychedelic business card with a picture of Bill Graham in the center...with a quote underneath: "Thanks for the memories." Still have that cool card. Indeed it was quite a memorable experience that magical memorial day.
Was a great time to live in San Francisco...I remember this day...This show . The people that shared many great years in The Haight,Lower Haight,The Mission ... SOMA ... Thank you ALL !!!

Watching this concert again and seeing some of the negative comments I can only say, if you don't understand and enjoy genius, go and watch something you do enjoy. It's not rocket science. You have 4 music legends here and the music is real. By the way, give only love.
Please keep in mind everyone you are looking at here including the musicians were in mourning, all 500,000 of us. It was a tremendous shock losing Bill Graham for us on the West Coast, the abrupt ending his life by helicopter crash. We were all in a state of shock, it was not for the music but for the gathering, there was greatest sense of loss the music could not blanket out.
I used to drive around most of the night listening to them, crying a little, feeling very strongly, wishing I was with them.. I Loved Neil and Steven Most but they all could Damn Well Sing!!!! And Write!!!
This is a Show I WISH I could have attended.. It took me many more years to learn to appreciate how amazing these guys are... David Crosby is a Legend and a Genius... His Magical Harmonies were one of the Secret weapons and Lynch pins that held the music together
there will never be another band like this , thank you god for letting us hear them !!!

Nash was never really good in the live concerts, especially when he was doing drugs and used to simply scream into the microphone. And any harmonies with Young included are guaranteed to be god awful. Individually they sound pretty good. Together they are a bit rough to say the least.
Crosby had high great Voice. AMAZING MELODIC pitch .
...and know they love you... Soft journey, Mr. David Crosby...
Wow the music of yesteryear is so priceless. 😃
I really love to see old music concerts and listen to music ive never seen , makes me feel good and know of the days of the past will live forever !
i worked for Bill Graham doing concert security. i worked at many venues from San Francisco to Oakland stadium to Shoreline Amphitheater to San Jose auditorium.
BILL GRAHAM111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So special @ the REAL FILMORE AND THE WINTERLAND.....COSMIC TO THE MAX!! BILL INTRODUCES EACH ONCOMING BAND...1966 THRU 1976...............SO GREAT MUSIC...EXTREME GOOD TIME...LESS FEAR OF GOVERNMENT. BLESS BILL GRAHAM!!!! TOMMYTALLAMERICAN PATRIOTSURFER.
ty for the inside view
Their harmony is heavenly
Long time gone, wow, what a performance.
Yes, a great one. That song always makes me cry a little, thinking about the event that inspired David Crosby to write it -- the assasination of Bobby Kennedy. That night is a terrible memory for many of us.
Went to Neil's Bridge School show the night before... Then up to the City for Bill's memorial the next morning.
What a weekend of fantastic music.
I did the same
I was there! Was hanging out with some old flower children & they were crying hard when CSNY went on. Amazing concert! RIP Bill. #FillmoreDays #GreenApples #UncleBoBo
Some Old flower children lol
Was with you man.

God, what legends!
I was there also. First time I ever saw all 4 together....as well as first time in Golden Gate Fields for any event. I remember the feeling of love in the crowd and us singing along to every artist's song we could recognize.
Love the cherished memories and the tribute to Bill and now to David!
Let their legends carry on!✌️
@@bluzcruz I sang my heart out that day!
me too :). a free concert w/ the Dead and CSNY in GG Park? legendary send off to Bill G.
Thanks and now is the time for their music ❤️
David Crosby-rest in peace.
This was absolutely spectacular to be in attendance on this Sunday in the park. RIP Steve Melissa and Uncle BoBo
Superb, still brings great memories and pleasant to the ear. Sweeeeeeet.
It was crazy sadness and heavy hearts for us who grew up with BGP, from the Fillmore Bill and Jerry handing out apples to all of us coming to see a show or in the panhandle with the Dead and all the bands over time on a flat bed truck, a generator and live music. I was with a friend who worked for
Bill in the office and we lived in Oakland. She asked me if I would pack her over on my Harley. It was the only way. We did a lot of lane sharing. Got to the back entrance and she gave the person there a big hug, and she knew everybody. She just told me to hang out. I did that, back stage and time went by. I don't remember leaving, but we did and we were probably numb for months.
don’t miss the rhythm section at all, it’s the vocal harmonies that make their music so distinctive
I was there. I felt honored to have attended. At points I was nearly in tears. The day after the helicopter crash, on my way to work on Highway 37, I saw the crashed copter still hanging from the power covered in cloths...The bodies had not yet been removed. 😮💨
Gimme those Martins! Stephen Stills is a phenomenon!
Even the flying in the air stop to listen 👂👂 once in a lifetime❤❤
I was at this show. An Incredible day at Golden Gate Park.
Wow, this is really good! (parts of it....) One of the best "Long Time Gone's" I've ever heard. Can't have been an easy day.

I enjoy their music since 1972 when I lived in Sedalia-MO! C S N & Y will always be the best!! They are eternal!!
I was at this show. it was incredible.
Only time I saw all four of them on the same stage. Rest in Power, Bill and Crosby...
Yeah baby, all those acoustic guitars and the dudes behind them
The best rawwwww music live.
The musical genius glory of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Never again will you hear a band of such inspirational memories.
I think you are 100% correct. The best is in the past.
It was a tearful day to remember Bill Gram who had died in a helicopter accident 358,000 fans gathered to listen to Bills fans pay there respects I was honored to work with the Deads Clean up crew the park was cleaner then we found it we miss you Uncle BoBo
Thats how Bill would have wanted it
WELL DONE IF EVERONE CLEANED UP !!!ALL OVER THIS WORLD IT Would BE Great 😁😁😁😁g
Say love my brother I was living in San Francisco then and my dear friend was running bgp presents and the flooring is 1:30 in the morning after bill was leaving a Huey Lewis show on the other side of the bay! Either which way my friend Eric called me what do I do what I do? Call David he did call me back I was the first person to other bil-jac what a shame
I was there. That day was the greatest tribute ever.
What a GREAT Turnout fir A Very GREAT Musician🎉🎉😢😢😢😢
we are so lucky . music from 1965 - 1989 and livin it . long may we all run .
I believe the rawness is the expression of grief, what makes it more intense and real.
what was i thinking. i went late to this, as csn y was ending. got very close for Grateful Dead...who had a fantastic unbelievable set. but, i would trade that for this.
6 String Fan Let's sing it for Bill
***** If that is Bill Graham yes
+6 String Fan
the best day ever in GG park
Really sorry I missed that one. Did see some great concerts in the park back in the day though aloha
I think we can say the 60's were the greatest decade in the history of American music.
I can't stop crying...the greatest band on earth..!!!!
yes, true
And 70's
I agree 👍🇸🇪
@@Michele-hb8cy yes, i am crying every time I lissning to this fantastic music and lyrics from this band. It is just Great 👍🇸🇪
Was a great time to live in San Francisco...I remember this day...This show . The people that shared many great years in The Haight,Lower Haight,The Mission ... SOMA ... Thank you ALL !!!
So sad today!
Hey, wavygr! Mark Twain is famously quoted as observing, ‘The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.’ -about right?
@@karenmarian2910 yeah i was just going yo say something about the condition of it today. Sad that the representative would let these conditions remain. What happened to those people from streets of SF protesting? Did they all go off yo become luberal colkege professirs and teaching liberal crap beyond where people are logical anymore? Where did people learn about 31 genders? Climate change we must follow the science, only a heartbeat with a 9mos. pregnancy doesnt constitute "life"? Transitioned men can have a period?
Why do they learn such lies?
RIP David
Now you can write and sing with the other genius in heaven
I went to this event Laughter Love and Music.
Funny the way it is, I see folks that I know at weddings and funerals.
I grew up in The sixties going to BGP concerts at a very young age.
Bill Graham was the best baby sitter that I ever had.
Thank you Uncle Bobo.
I love you!
STFU, LYING WORM
Man- I'm getting old. I was there. I was pretty youngish...
They were superb from the beginning and just kept getting better and better.
Watching this concert again and seeing some of the negative comments I can only say, if you don't understand and enjoy genius, go and watch something you do enjoy. It's not rocket science. You have 4 music legends here and the music is real. By the way, give only love.
I could sit here and watch this for days but i gotta go to work tomorrow 6/10/24 😁😁😁
Please keep in mind everyone you are looking at here including the musicians were in mourning, all 500,000 of us. It was a tremendous shock losing Bill Graham for us on the West Coast, the abrupt ending his life by helicopter crash. We were all in a state of shock, it was not for the music but for the gathering, there was greatest sense of loss the music could not blanket out.
marshall de corazón You couldn’t have said it any better glory be
It was a shock. He was on his way to see huey lewis and the news. Bill Graham had many great concerts. His son Bill jr took over the biz
YEAH BOYS YOU WERE THE BEST YOUR SONGS ARE LEGENDARY I LIKE TO LISTEN TO YOU AND NEIL

Thank you for sharing this. Beautiful sounds and images. And it has been a long time comin’.
This is a Show I WISH I could have attended.. It took me many more years to learn to appreciate how amazing these guys are... David Crosby is a Legend and a Genius... His Magical Harmonies were one of the Secret weapons and Lynch pins that held the music together
Neil Young on MV: Thank for sharing CSNY live @the Golden Park, SF CA.
From: Retired Filipino-American citizens with my wife and son. God Bless You.
I had every album but my son as a youngster destroyed them and one way or another so these concerts on TH-cam really really help him make me so happy
What a gift they gave us. Also Bill. And that favorite park. ❤️🙏🏻. 4 guitars. .?..Young and Stills guitar🔥
