I already see all the comments saying the same thing, but I'll say it too. Fans Hobby may not make the most "cartoon-accurate" figures, but you can't deny that they've got their big, chunky style that really shines. Power Baser was my first 3rd-party Transformer, and I still recommend it to ANYBODY. I love this big, beefy boy.
I just adore the Fans Hobby style. Everything has this chunky, impressive quality and they always manage this fusion of ‘serious collectible’ and ‘entertaining toy’. Their stuff captures a certain accessible fun factor I like. Their Ginrai taps in to the excitement giant mech robot things have.
Love the comparison as always!! Personally i like em both for different reasons, kfc often falls short, tho i didn't have a lot of issues with the top panel, just a matter of aligning everything and pressing hard, the floppy ratchets throughout are just crap, i fixed most by adding extra rubber washers, the knees are now bloody tight, the abcrunch i might need a different spring, but most issues are easily fixable, with power baser i had a few times it stripped the rivet ratchets, not so easy to fix, also it handles great otherwise, but is very lightweight.
Fans hobby is defiantly their own take on it. I like PM/Ginrai to be chonky so FH hits that mark for me. We'll see how the MPG stands up soon here. I just wish we could have a box art accurate version.
I'm a sucker for MP scale Optimus Prime figures and I was interested in KFCs PM Prime. But after watching your review and seeing how poorly it is put together and how it can barely hold its own weight and how easily parts come undone or pop off... I dunno, maybe if I can get it on clearance or something.
I’m glad that i’ve been waiting for the TT version of this caracther and i’m with you that the Fanshobby one is the better. What kind of engineer are you? I’m also an engineer (cooling, heating for utillity buildings) and i have the same thinking of products that can’t do what they are designed to do. Anyways, great review, cheers
Yeah, I think that I'll try to just hunt down the Fans Hobby (in particular the orange Fire Guts God Ginrai variant) or wait for the fugly truck mode of the Takara MPG9+14. Once again, KFC/XTB highlights why I'm only interested in their Victory Leo (and the Starsaber upgrade kit) and their Blaster/Twincast.😮😮😮
I still feel like when it comes to KFC/XTB/AAT, they're easily on par with many of the best when it comes to paint work, quite high up with creative engineering, but are no better than unbranded KOs when it comes to material quality and tolerances much of the time. If this hobby was about fragile plastic statues you never touched out of the box, they'd certainly be about the best in the game.
Thanks for showing these, I absolutely love PB even though I typically prefer the animation look. I am not even really attached to this figure but am a total sucker for modular type bots. Also, FYI PB comes with two additional heads. One with red eyes and one with blue eyes and the Super Ginrai feature where the ears slide out and the crest raises up.
Typical KFC/XTB. Looks great. Just don't touch it. They really should've done non transforming figures. I think they'd have owned the market. Awesome comparison, as always.
I love these comparisons and you always do a great job. Looking at them side by side like this, I change my vote. I think the KFC looks a lot better. I went with Takara but I may have to get the KFC also.
Great review as always! I am surprised that KFC won by that much. I do think he looks more accurate, but that frankly doesn't mean much to me since I never really was into those cartoons. While I don't transform my guys all that much, I will say that the ease / fun of doing so is important to me - even for figures that just sit there. It helps me to not have a weird "negative emotion" attached to it, if that makes sense. I am gonna stay away from KFC, though I do think it may look better than Fanshobby, but in all honesty, I don't care too terribly much for it in this mode ... put on the god armor, and yes please ... that's where fanshobby shines. it looks awesome, and i'm not sure KFC could match it ... heck, I frankly don't think KFC could take the weight anyway!
Between the two I prefer the Power Baser Marvel Optimus headsculpt. I just think it looks better and the eyes are the proper red color. KFC has more anime-style proportions (Toei loved giving their robots legs for DAYS) and in general looks cleaner, but I rather like PB's chunky aesthetic. I do confess I have a minor bias because I already have Power Baser (with the Marvel head and full-red hands because he's always gonna be Powermaster Optimus to me). Granted mine is the earlier release that had grey thighs, not chrome, but that just helps him look more like the G1 PMOP toy. The thing about KFC wanting to fall apart makes me want him much less, even if he's aesthetically very nice looking. PB is just rock solid, I've had him for years and he's just as sturdy as ever. I'm still on the fence about the official MP, I suppose it depends on if we get a Marvel comic head upgrade kit from DNA for it because that's a dealbreaker for me.
That has to be a 1st run on the KFC Grand Raijin because my copy is put together very well... nevertheless, having both of these, I thought Power Baser was a big boy but KFC is huge!!! I like the toon likeness of KFC but FansHobby stylized version screams armored up bot to me...
Got to argree with you overall, I like the KFC one and have it, but for the price you pay for it, it's shocking how many issuses its has, KFC should be embrassed, its like they get to a point a think f' it it will do. Great video and Have a good xmas!
Personally, I like the FH version better. To me, his design is supposed to be a bit more bulky and not nearly as tall as the KFC. KFC is a bit too lanky. Nice video and thanks for the comparisons!
Urghh , i like KFC Alt mode but Fans Hobby Bot mode ! I've never owned either companies products but i seem to remember hearing about QC issues from KFC mainly but i think F H also
@tmreviews - so would you say that even though KFC far surpasses Fans Hobby, the frustration of handling and playing with KFC resulted in Fans Hobby being the more enjoyable toy?
KFC looks absolutely amazing , but to ragdolly looks why to lose , Don’t think it will last as long powerbaser over time after transforming it. I owned power baser. For over 4 years. Never had a problem with it
I like fanshobby build, and presence and style. I like to play with my transformers so this is another reason I like fanshobby. However, for the people who just want to look at them KFC has the look of the cartoon people love.
Awesome VS Sony, Im a Prime Collector...3rd Party anyways LOL. I have 3 versions of FH and I like them very much. Sometimes they are Frustrating because of the bulk or build, but just watching you breathe at KFCs and the Floppy, Loose, Come Undone (Duran Duran) of a mess is just a Tragedy. FH all day everyday...until Magic Square ofcourse. LOL.
I don't care what company makes a masterpiece. The slot method has always sucked the guns never stay but fans hobby groove system is what they all should be using.
Maketoys Thunder Manus isn't MP scale, these two (KFC/XTB & Fans Hobby) are. If anything, the only thing that the Maketoys has to compete with is Takara's LG35 Super Ginrai+LG42 Godbomber (or the outright LGEX God Ginrai).
One thing missed as comparing the cab in robot mode without the trailer. Height wise Fans Hobby is more accurate. Overall great review. It's odd that such a poor figure scored so well.
Yeah it really comes down to build quality, to me that is paramount but to some it's not as important, hence why I don't weight any category, I leave it up to people to decide what is important to them
@ it’s a shame MMC could not make the cab bot mode the right size, and have foresight to avoid the issues you pointed out. They could have had a slam dunk.
You forgot the "does it have feet" category. The kfc looks a complete mess of a figure. Fans Hobby have their own special niche which the fill very well
Oxford English Dictionary: Stylized means something depicted or treated in a mannered and nonrealistic (including disproportionate) style. This means that the G1 cartoon series designs were stylized. The G1 Powermaster Prime toy was not as stylized (at least as far as the vehicle mode goes), like many of the original Diaclone moulds. So, the more a figure looks like the cartoon (the more cartoony looking) the more stylized it is. Therefore, any toy design that tries to emulate the cartoon is the more stylized figure. Ergo, Power Baser is not the more stylized figure; KFC is. Just wanted to clear that up
Strange, I think both look bad. The heads look terrible, and FH has too many issues despite the amazing colors. KFC colors look awful. I do want a PMOP in my collection but I think I will wait.
It's interesting how KFC won basically due to aesthetics, he looks great, but is a pile of junk, I like their upgrade kits, the hands are awesome, but this figure is a disaster, in my personal opinion. Fans Hobby builds quality figures, not a fan of the aesthetics, but they are cool. When the takara one comes out, I think it will kick KFC in the looks department.

I saw 'KFC' in the title and was like "when did KFC made a toy let alone a leader size Optimus Prime figure!?" 😂
😂
When I first got into collecting, I was confused when I first heard of KFC making Transformers figures. 😂
I Like the fanshobby dectails and stailization more.

Hearing you review on the KFC I'm glad I'm waiting for the MPG version
Love the comparison as always!!

Youre right..Fanshobby kinda has its own design..while kfc is more in toon..Cant wait for the takara comparison by you.
So are you going to get the mpg power master prime, Sony?
Fans hobby is defiantly their own take on it. I like PM/Ginrai to be chonky so FH hits that mark for me. We'll see how the MPG stands up soon here. I just wish we could have a box art accurate version.

Thanks. I did computer systems engineering in school but now I mainly do quality.

I had to use Kiki fix liquid for the loose parts. It holds up much better now.

I'd love to see a SS86-scale Ginrai, honestly. I don't really need to see MP scale anymore.
The articulation section should have been a 30 second segment with "well Fans can hold itself up so..."

To me at the end of the day I care more about which one would I rather handle and play with. To me, Power Baser wins all the way due to that.
Urghh , i like KFC Alt mode but Fans Hobby Bot mode ! I've never owned either companies products but i seem to remember hearing about QC issues from KFC mainly but i think F H also
Fans hobby is great underrated
@tmreviews - so would you say that even though KFC far surpasses Fans Hobby, the frustration of handling and playing with KFC resulted in Fans Hobby being the more enjoyable toy?
KFC looks absolutely amazing , but to ragdolly looks why to lose , Don’t think it will last as long powerbaser over time after transforming it. I owned power baser. For over 4 years. Never had a problem with it
Why do figures from Keith look like they are wearing snow shoes as of late?
I like fanshobby build, and presence and style. I like to play with my transformers so this is another reason I like fanshobby. However, for the people who just want to look at them KFC has the look of the cartoon people love.

Do you think issues come with the increased accuracy and complexity or just KF no QC fumbles it repeatedly 😂
Before even watching... The KFC raving shall commence! Lol! 🤪
You are a hero for doing this vid.
That KFC bot is a pig.
I don't care what company makes a masterpiece. The slot method has always sucked the guns never stay but fans hobby groove system is what they all should be using.
You forgot about maketoys
Maketoys Thunder Manus isn't MP scale, these two (KFC/XTB & Fans Hobby) are. If anything, the only thing that the Maketoys has to compete with is Takara's LG35 Super Ginrai+LG42 Godbomber (or the outright LGEX God Ginrai).
Agreed, it's not MP and it also doesn't combine the same way
One thing missed as comparing the cab in robot mode without the trailer. Height wise Fans Hobby is more accurate. Overall great review. It's odd that such a poor figure scored so well.

1 is not a classic cartoon design.
1 is bigger than a standard MP.
You forgot the "does it have feet" category. The kfc looks a complete mess of a figure. Fans Hobby have their own special niche which the fill very well
Again I feel like everything is not about toon accuracy.
😮

I personally think they both look like crap lol, the only Super Jinrai/Powermaster prime I like it's the Maketoys, sadly is not MP scaled lol
Dr Diekast for the win! Cannot say enough kind things about him!
For sure
Why didn't you talk about the little God master/powermaster figure?
I did, under gimmicks section
@@TMReviews Ah you're right. u mentioned them but u didn't show us the little figure. 😢
Interesting review. Although none of these designs do justice to Ginrai. Takara is the winner, in my opinion.
It's not even out, how can it be the winner?
@@TMReviews I meant by appearance. Quality and materials may be the talk of another day.

Imo the KFC one would still be more toon accurate than the Takara, too bad its bad quality is terrible though
@@keyboardt8276 probably yes, you right.
