I used a duct tape. I cut down into strips and then into approximate length and width of the ring bridge, or how's it called. I stacked them for a while until it felt tight enough for the finger, shook my hand to see how much it takes for it to slide/slip off. When it was decent enough, I took slightly longer strips to wrap around the ring bridge to make it look much more cleaner, otherwise those stacked strips looked ugly and my finger could accidentally over time take them off because edges were visible. This way it would just slide. Kind of works. But it works if you got a silver or stainless steel/regular steel type of looking rings, because it would be less visible. I used this method because I had no transparent item to do something like this, and usually transparent tapes are weak, so I used the gray typical strong duct tape.

I nearly had a heart attack when my mom’s wedding band slipped off at work. I change latex gloves 50+ times a day so it could’ve been anywhere. It was in the sanitation bucket. Had to do something to fix the issue with it coming off when wet. Thought to paint the inner band with gel nail polish and cure with the LED light. Added a few coats and capped the edges. Works great, super easy to reapply if it has any issues and very inexpensive if you already have the gel. Also undetectable if clear is used.
It didn’t stain or damage the metal? I have a silver ring and it’s a bit big and I would love to try this method bc I have gel polish and UV light at home! But I don’t want my silver to turn black or something 😢

Great video...this may sound stupid, but my solution was to wear your ring on another finger excluding wedding rings...took me a little time to get used to it because i'm a little old fashioned but actually like it better than what i intended...it is a signet ring.
Thank you for the great tips. As I have so many gold rings that are half a size too large, I didn't want to pay for resizing them all. I purchased two very fine solid gold bands, 1mm or 1.5mm. Yes it was a one time purchase price of around a total of $200 but it solved the problem for all my gold rings. I now wear a band on both sides of my rings. That solves my problem and they are very thin to even be noticed. I remove them when fingers swell up in the hot weather.
I have large knuckles so it is hard to get my rings to fit. I've tried almost every method with no look, but can't wait to try the fishing line! Thanks.
It wasn't as neat as yours, all over frustrating and arduous, but the fishing line method has stayed on and functional longer than anything I tried previously!!! Additionally the tie doesn't stick out and scratch me or feel weird. Best ever, thanks so much!❤

i like the spiral wrap but my rings are wide. i used Self-Amalgamating Rubber Tape. It only sticks to itself and is stretchy and strong. negative is its black but great for big chunky rings
I'm a petite women with small hands. I bought two different attachment thru amazon to make my engagement fit tighter. But, no luck.. even used the smallest insert and i cant get my finger thru. I don't want to tighten it at the jeweler because I feel like during pregnancy my fingers might get bigger. Thus seems like its much slimmer.. just enough to create enough space that it will fit.
Everyone goes on about reducing a ring size, but it's my experience that people's ring sizes get bigger over the years. Not smaller. Any advise of increasing a ring size cheaply at home?

We haven't used the coil ones before but I would think that if the coil is loose and moving around a lot then over time it could wear the rhodium plating off the white gold. I'm not too sure about palladium though

For the threading method, wouldn't it make more since to have that tail against the ring during the wrapping to begin with instead of trying to force it underneath afterwards? Other than that, I think I am going to try that method. Good video with lots of ideas.
Thanks for the comment. I suppose having one of the tail ends against the ring while wrapping could work. Note that there are 2 ends and you will still have to thread the other end through. I don't think it would be possible to have bother tail ends against the ring while wrapping.
@@FrakkingCreations I am looking forward to trying this method, it seems one of the best options if you can't get the plastic wrap arounds. Thanks for the extra tip about threading the second side, I will remember that.
Please help. I've purchased 2 rolls of monofilament fishing line because this fits seen the best way for the sizing i need to do with my ring. Problem is I have to add wrote a bit to make it fit and the gauges that I've ordered are way to small and world probably tale both rolls together to work. Idk anything about monofilament fishing line! What gauge out test weight would be good for rings that need quite a bit to make fit? Plz help
The monofilament method can only do so much in terms of size adjustment. In the video I do overlap the monofilament to help adjust the size more. I was using a 30 lb weight monofilament, if that helps. Note that you can only go up to a certain size of monofilament line before it becomes not practical and not usable for this method. I haven't tried larger sizes yet so I can't tell you what is the largest size that will work.
Yes. It is a very beautiful ring. My wife often catches people constantly sneak a look at it while they are talking to her and trying to maintain eye contact with her. Here is our affiliate link to where I bought the ring: bit.ly/2YdmxRC
Honestly, the phone screen protector is a legit idea. I just got a little cheap ring from my grandpa, but it's pretty cool nonetheless. That would be perfect for a slightly snugger fit on my finger!
What if I cannot get th earring off to downsize it in one of your methods ? arthritis fingers makes it impossible to remove the ring from finger.... I tried tape and glue , paper and nail polish of clear kind , ,string and clear nail polish ...ugly and dirty string is the result...
I'm not sure I understand what the issue for you is. The solutions in our video require the ring to be off before it is resized. Are you having issues with removing your ring once the resizing is done to the ring?
You can do a few sizes depending on the thickness of the line you use and how much of the shank you wrap and if you overlap or not. Note that there will be a limit to the thickness of the line you use and also how many overlaps you can do. Hope that helps.
You're welcome. We're glad it was helpful. Thanks for taking a minute to comment. Please subscribe and share our videos with anyone else you think it will help. Thanks for the support.
I have a ring that needs to be tightened. It's not a wedding ring or anything like that. Just a regular ring. Idk if I should take it to the jewelry store for them to do it or if I can do it at home
If you do it at home it won't be a permanent fix but may be good enough for your needs. You'll have to determine if it's worth spending money on it. A jeweler can tell you if it's possible for them to work on it and how much. So if you bring it in to a few places to get an idea of pricing and possibility for resizing. Hope that helps.
Do u have advise on how to keep my engagement and wedding ring together with out soldering. They were bought as a bridal set As my wedding ring has diamonds on the top, it's top heavy and always ends up spinning on my finger.
Have you tried the monofilament method? If the DIY methods i mentioned won't work, you might want to get a jeweler to help. They can weld a metal plate, two metal beads or a metal spring plate on the inside of the band. Last resort is for the jeweler to cut and resize.
It could but may depend on how large the lettering and hole long the text is. I find that if a rings inner band surface is smooth and polished, the screen protector method may not stay on long. There is another technique you can try which i haven't had time to try out yet. It's the liquid glues that have a UV light used to harden it. It my work for you.
Thank you for the comment. We're really happy whenever our videos help any of our viewers. Check out our other videos on our channel as you may find more that you like.
this is insane man. I tried twice with the fish line and I am good with my hands. But could not get the brands to go all next to another so after a good while of trying I just pulled hard but it broke, I cut the other side but it geos fit now but I dont think it's gonna hold very long. I should heat it up so the string hold together haha good Idea. Update, I ended up putting a small drop off crazy glue on the outer side to bond the strands together because it was not as perfect as you there were a few criss crosses of some of the brands.
Good idea with the crazy glue. Hope it holds. Also, what diameter fishing line are you using? It sounds like the line diameter is too small. This would make it more difficult to line the loops next to each other. Note that I used 0.022" / 0.55 mm diameter monofilament. You might want to give that a try.
Good question. If it's only 1 loop then perhaps the ring can be reshaped a little smaller? If it's more than 1 loop then maybe doing the monofilament mod on the bottom of the first and last loop?
Sorry. These hacks are for making the ring "smaller". Depending on the ring material some people stretch the ring. Though this is risky and may not work on all types/styles of rings.
ty!!!! just got a ring, and i geuss measured wrong, i didn't have any fishing line, but i used thin metal wire, and then topd with electrical tape n workd!!!! wp man
Increasing the size of a ring is more complex. There are tools that can be used to stretch the metal shank of the ring but that will not work with all rings. For example, the engagement ring that I demoed with the fishing line cannot be stretched because the ring would come apart.
Depends on your ring and how many sizes you need to resize. I like using the fishing line method I demoed in the video. It works good for the engagement ring.
Thread can work, but like I mentioned in the video, cloth, string or anything that absorbs water can allow bacteria to grow. In the end this will smell and be dirty. I'm sure you can achieve same results as a thread by using fishing line.
Why couldn't I find a narrow band of cloth I can wrap around my finger and position the ring over it? I just don't want to put anything inside my mother's wedding ring so I can wear it without worrying about it sliding off my finger.
It's really up to you how you want to approach this. Everyone will have unique situations so will have to decide based on that. If the cloth solution works for you then that's fine too. You will have to keep the cloth clean though as sweat dirt and other things will absorb into the cloth and over time if not cleaned it becomes a place for bacteria to grow. The monofilament solution does work well for wedding rings as I showed on our ring. Though it depends how much adjustment you need. Another good solution that is more permanent could be getting a jeweler to attach a metal plate in the inside of the ring as shown in one of the example solutions. Hope that helps.
Got a 14k ring did not even fit even though i used a ring sizer. I looked at the video suggestions and said idk. I ended up using a very small strip of silver duct tape and it worked like a charm felt like a completely different ring when it fitted right its yellow gold so you cant even see the silver at the bottom it worked perfectly and easy to remove if i want so before you start welding or using a mile of fishing line from god knows were try simple methods first.
Whatever works for you. We're just showing viewers that these other methods exist too and it's always up to the person what method works best. Everyone has different preferences and priorities so the answer will not be the same for all. Thanks for sharing your method.
Back in my day, a little scotch tape would do the trick. The problem for me is that I need to size a ring up. In other words, I need to make a small ring bigger. I was hoping this video would show a home technique to do that.
Sorry you did not find the solution in our video. Hopefully you will find a solution soon. I have seen some videos where the metal of a ring is stretched to make it bigger.

You said white gold is plated. It's an alloy made of a couple different metals. One of which is gold. The other can be one of a couple different metals, such as silver, palladium, platinum. So, it's a solid metal.
You are correct that white gold is alloyed with other metals. Though, to give it the pure white shine it is plated with rhodium which does wear off over time.
@@FrakkingCreations Ya and it wears off pretty quick. People get them replated all the time. Personally, I think it's weird that people don't like white gold so they have it plated to look more white.
True. To me it's like white gold isn't good or appealing enough so "let's plate it" so that people are tricked into thinking it's more valuable because it glitters and shines.
@@FrakkingCreations Customers drove the prevalence of plating white gold. They hear "white gold" and expect it to be actually white like silver or platinum, but the reality is even the whitest alloys have a slightly yellowish or greyish colour. During the 1st world war platinum was deemed an important war time resource so all platinum use in jewellery was halted. This was at a time when platinum was extensively used in jewellery and demand for a white metal that looked like platinum was still high. So metallurgists started experimenting with gold, adding bleaching metals such as nickel, palladium, and silver. Nickel was found to provide the best bleaching effect and the best hardening effect as the primary alloying metal, and was inexpensive. The trade off being, severely reduced workability and brittleness. There were high nickel white gold alloys that were very white, but difficult to work with because they had memory when annealing them after deformation and were prone to heat cracking from forming and annealing processes. Their workability in sheet and wire form was low due to the high nickel content so they were relegated to casting alloys. Fabricated pieces were made from a different alloy, "rolling white", as it has far better workability at the sacrifice of colour. These are often plated, then it just became standard practice to rhodium plate because the customer was not happy that their gold ring didn't look shining white. It was a solution, not a deception. Personally I like the colour of white gold and go with an alloy that does not require plating when making a piece. Alloys have come a long way in terms of combining whiteness and workability. I can find alloys that are quite white, don't require plating and provide enough flexibility that allows for fabrication and casting methods. They are not quite the greyish-white colour of the old high nickel whites that mimiced the colour of platinum, but they're close. The white gold that appears yellow are often low quality white gold from commercial sources such as Costco, Walmart, etc. But many white gold alloys will look slightly yellowish when compared to the greyish white of rhodium.
Unless you have ALOT of patience. Don’t buy the fishing line. This takes a LONG time. A great a example what it could be , to the nightmare it really is.

Some methods are better than others and some are more of a temporary measure. The hot glue may depend on the brand as some are better than others. Hopefully another method works better for you.
Well, yes, the rings may not look great when not worn but when worn, you cannot see the difference in aesthetics. Thes methods are better for those that have rings that can't be resized or don't want to properly resize or don't want to have their rings cut to be resized. Also, they are great for those that temporarily need to resize until they have a chance to properly look for and cost out a place to resize.
These are not lies. These methods work but they can't fix everything. If your ring is too big by too many sizes then you might have to cut. Which and how many of the 15 methods have you actually tried and think don't work?

Do the rings both fit your finger properly or do they also need to be resized?
I have a ring that can be adjusted, even if i do that, is still to big, do you have any idea?
Have you tried the monofilament method?
If the DIY methods i mentioned won't work, you might want to get a jeweler to help. They can weld a metal plate, two metal beads or a metal spring plate on the inside of the band.
Last resort is for the jeweler to cut and resize.
Fishing 🎣 line 👍👍👍
Does the screen protector method also works with rings with engraving on it?
It could but may depend on how large the lettering and hole long the text is. I find that if a rings inner band surface is smooth and polished, the screen protector method may not stay on long.
There is another technique you can try which i haven't had time to try out yet. It's the liquid glues that have a UV light used to harden it. It my work for you.
Thanks dude..😀it was really helpful..!!!

I need to make it larger for my daughter ❤🕊
These are some good ideas! thanks for the video

this is insane man.
I would say .75 mm if I compare to the others that I have. the one I used the sticker was gone. But is is pretty thick.
What if the ring is not a full circle? Because my ring is a kind of snake ring
Good question. If it's only 1 loop then perhaps the ring can be reshaped a little smaller? If it's more than 1 loop then maybe doing the monofilament mod on the bottom of the first and last loop?
what brand of cell phone screen protector film did you use in the video?
I used a Phantom Skinz Ultra clear screen protector.
Did anyone try to size down ring with poly gel?
Your captions cover most of the pictures! Future videos should have the captions at the top of the screen if you're working at the bottom.
Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate you taking a moment to comment to let us know. We will have to keep that in mind for future videos
I dont get jow you fed the line through
what about making the ring bigger?
Sorry. These hacks are for making the ring "smaller". Depending on the ring material some people stretch the ring. Though this is risky and may not work on all types/styles of rings.
ty!!!! just got a ring, and i geuss measured wrong, i didn't have any fishing line, but i used thin metal wire, and then topd with electrical tape n workd!!!! wp man
Thank you for sharing. Glad it worked out great for you!
I'll have to add thin wire as an option too.
I got my boyfriend a her king in a size 8 and it fell off from his finger
Thank you

How to resize a ring if you have to make it big as the size usually increase by age
Increasing the size of a ring is more complex. There are tools that can be used to stretch the metal shank of the ring but that will not work with all rings. For example, the engagement ring that I demoed with the fishing line cannot be stretched because the ring would come apart.
Gold to enlarge
Whats the best option for diy at home?
Depends on your ring and how many sizes you need to resize. I like using the fishing line method I demoed in the video. It works good for the engagement ring.
Frakking Creations thanks for the reply. Mine is size 5.5 i need 5. So its just a tiny bit. How about using a thread rather than fishing line?
Thread can work, but like I mentioned in the video, cloth, string or anything that absorbs water can allow bacteria to grow. In the end this will smell and be dirty. I'm sure you can achieve same results as a thread by using fishing line.
What's best to use to resize a engagement ring I wear 6 but the ring is 7.. I have the ring guard coil but still feel loose
The adjustable metal strip or metal insert may work better for adjusting larger size differences. Aside from that you might need to go to a jeweler.
Thank you, I will try this
You're welcome. If it works out well for you please share and like the video!
I take my Good rings to jewers
genius! :)
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Peopel tape fixes everything just rap a clear tape until it fits and get water proof tape
What brand of clear tape are you suggesting? And has this worked well to last long for you?
Waterproof medical
Back in my day, a little scotch tape would do the trick. The problem for me is that I need to size a ring up. In other words, I need to make a small ring bigger. I was hoping this video would show a home technique to do that.
Sorry you did not find the solution in our video. Hopefully you will find a solution soon. I have seen some videos where the metal of a ring is stretched to make it bigger.
@@FrakkingCreations Thanks, your video was good, it just wasn't what I needed. But, if I ever need to size down a ring, I know where to look.

How about tungsten rings?
You could try the phone protection skin method in the video. I'm assuming you are talking about a wedding band style ring.
Thanks for the insight. Very informative.
Helps a lot!
Thank you!
I’m just going
I have to resize my BTS ring😂💜💜
My ring is too big
You could try one of the solutions in our video.
Try to go twice over, like do this fishingline method, then do the same right over it. That's what I did and it worked!
Just got to over lap it twice or three times.
Umm how to resize LARGER.
here's what i did ... just put another ring (preferebly gold since it can be easily shaped ) inside the bigger ring ...
My mom used electrical tape for hers😂
Thanks for sharing!

Wow! :)

Unless you have ALOT of patience. Don’t buy the fishing line. This takes a LONG time. A great a example what it could be , to the nightmare it really is.
It may not be a solution for everyone but it does work well for some as we have had good feedback on it too.
I hate all these methods. I had mine stretched 23 kt he went to far and I’m so upset I sold the ring.
In hindi its call taangus
Thanks. What word in English translates to taangus?
Background Music is disturbing in video
Thanks for providing some feedback on this video. Was it too loud or wrong type of music? For all our videos we try to select a soundtrack that matches the video and also make sure to try to balance the loudness of music to voice. I guess it wasn't to your liking.
The hot glue falls off so easy :/
Some methods are better than others and some are more of a temporary measure. The hot glue may depend on the brand as some are better than others.
Hopefully another method works better for you.
all these ways are just ruining the aesthetics and beauty of the rings, not to mention some of these wont resist heat or friction
Want to go bigger nit smaller
Im scared my nugget ring will break
Yeah. Getting a jeweler to resize does take some risk if the ring is delicate or it the existing structure could be compromised by a cut.
Son todas mentiras , lo tuve que cortar al anillo.
These are not lies. These methods work but they can't fix everything. If your ring is too big by too many sizes then you might have to cut. Which and how many of the 15 methods have you actually tried and think don't work?
